    I used to defend the Bethesda Fallout series because I thought the idea in Fallout 3 was that the bombs fell so hard on Washington that it got so messed up with so many problems that it was hard for communities to build there.
    I didn’t see a contradiction between liking New Vegas and 3.
    Then Fallout 4 came out and I was very disappointed. It had so few communities and side quests compared to 3. I hated how limited the dialogue option was and the story was very disappointing.
    I still sort of defended the lack of factions by saying that the idea was that you were going to be the rebuileder but that this was not ideal.
    I liked the BoS though.
    Then the Fallout show came out and they nuked Shady Sands and destroyed the NCR. I was so pissed off because they basically reset all the progress to get back to where the BoS was the strongest faction.
    And the show admitted that the reason they did nuke Shady Sands was because they didn’t want things to be rebuilt like today, missing the entire point of the original which asked questions like ‘What lessons would new factions in a post-post-apocalyptic world take with them and would they repeat the mistakes of the past?’
    Instead, Bethesda wants to keep them in the post-apocalypse, never advancing from their tribal ways with only the BoS being the major factions.
    Everything the anti-Bethesda fans said about Bethesda’s Fallout turned out to be true and that pissed me off so much. They were entirely right and Bethesda hates the world of the New Vegas creates but you can be damned sure they are going to market it to everyone who liked it!

    That is not the origin of Ghouls, Callum. The ghouls assume it was radiation that caused the mutation, but it was the corporation West-Tek's research into the Forced Evolutionary Virus at the Mariposa Facility.

    • @snapslav
      @snapslav 5 місяців тому +2

      Not correct. This was an AGE OLD argument ever since FO2, where FO1 fans felt that the sequel had retconned the origin of ghouls (I was one of them).
      It was clarified that it IS radiation which makes Ghouls, which is why Vault 12 (beneath Necropolis) which was designed never to close its door, allowing radiation to seep into the vault, was where ghouls came from in FO1.
      Harold was a ghoul-like mutant, who referred to himself as a "mutant down on his luck" who was mutated by FEV. Typhon (IIRC) was another ghoul-like mutant found in the Follower's library who was the Vault Dweller's predecessor, who got captured and mutated and didn't return to Vault 13 after being rescued by the Follower's. These 2 characters implied that FEV created ghouls, but that was not the case with Necropolis.
      The airborne, radiation mutated FEV that was the result of the nuking of Westek (The Glow) had the INDIRECT effect of creating ghoul-like mutants, because it INOCULATED wastelanders against pure FEV, so dipping them results in failed mutants. This is why after decades of experiments, the Master sought out pure humans for dipping (like vault dwellers) because they hadn't been exposed to airborne irradiated FEV. (He didn't know the cause, but he determined the best candidates.)
      Ghouls come from radiation, but not just anyone exposed to radiation becomes a ghoul. It's a "special", lucky mutation and adaptation to radiation exposure. Most suffer radiation sickness and perish.
      What Bethesda Fallout ALWAYS got wrong was this feral nonsense. Ghouls don't go feral. If they did, all the prejudice against them would be warranted. But it's actually just bigotry over how they look and smell, because they don't have intact skin. They're human, sentient, rational, but looked down upon unfairly. There are no such things as feral ghouls.

In New Vegas we know from a first hand account Salt Lake city was hit with something like thirteen atom bombs. If they throw that many at a city like Salt Lake Imagine how many the Chinese would commit to destroying the seat of American government. The developers actually said they had to tone down the nuke damage, because in reality with the way the Great War went, the entire DC region would be one vast sheet of glass and craters! Not much fun to play in :P
      They used a truly huge amount of mostly "small" nukes, as megaton-sized "city killer" weapons were rare, but more "small" actually results in MORe damage, same principle as cluster bombs. "Big" nukes waste most of their energy into space or in pointless overkill

    • @silverbladeTE
      @silverbladeTE 5 місяців тому

      @@appropriate-channelname3049 Mostly correct :) But, the "big" nuke was MEANT to hit the area that became the "Glowing Sea" as that was a "sentinel" site, antiballistic missiles etc, but also was being used to develop new ICBMs, you find this out when you explore the site and find all the nukes
      In the game lore, megaton sized weapons were rare, but one did hit there to try and take out the site, but, since their missile tech regarding accuracy and miniaturization wasn't nearly as good as in our world, the missile missed.
      The wiki says it was a 100 megaton but that is not correct, it was 10 megatons or your character would have been fried at Vault 111 and the crater would be almost 3 miles across, but it caused the nearby reactor to melt down and shattered some of the nukes around the Sentinel site, ergo, extreme radiation

    Just installed Fallout 2 again a few days ago. You get the car, the Highwayman don't forget. One cool thing i learned last time i played, was how to unpack the dat file where the character and companion info is located. The player character and companions all have several versions, one for each level up, and you can modify their stats , levelling stats, HP ect and also change what weapon types they can use although that is dependent of the character model and what animations it can do so it's limited. Despite what people think about Bethesda's 3 and 4, i think we are still lucky to have fallout games in any form because for a long time the fallout franchise was dead, lifeless and void with seemingly very little hope of another Fallout for starved fans. Personally i like all the games including tactics and fallout shelter. Bunch of crashy games though! - I'm really looking forward to the Fallout London mod. Sadly they've had to delay the release of this work of art but maybe in six months? I doubt i'll be able to play it on my laptop but i'll be really fascinated to watch others play it. So that's the next fallout game essentially ... the Fallout London mod for Fallout 4.

It’s arguably even worse than Star Wars, in TFA we saw the undermining of Luke, Han, and Leia’s legacy with the destruction of the New Republic, but in Fallout the NCR was founded as a direct result of the Player’s actions in Fallout 1, in Fallout 2 there’s a statue of the Vault Dweller in the center of Shady Sands, for it to be off-screened and written off with a “well if it makes you feel any better it didn’t work out” is f**king insulting.

The reason why the original traders settled there was because the bomb was being carried via plane when it crashed, and the traders simply built the town out of the airplane, eventually constructing the walls to keep out the raiders and super mutants.

Trying to make head cannon and make work arounds doesn’t do anything except buy Bethesda a cop out and allows them to profuce more trash without actually caring about it the lead dev Emil says he doesn’t care about the lore or the game hes just there for the money he did backtrack this but then did it again and again

Todd has already been doing his best to take a massive poopy all over the world of Fallout, the last ‘good’ game released by a Todd Howard team was Fallout 4 nearly a decade ago. And I use the term ‘good’ very generously, that game is rife with issues, especially narrative issues, but it’s overall fun and the gunplay is great. 76 is garbage. Starfield is a joke. I’m so worried about Elder Scrolls VI, it’s gonna be awful. Please Todd, either make a good game again, or just give up and stop milking everything dry like the corporate rat you’ve become. Why can’t companies just be creative any more… granted I give credit for trying Starfield, but in execution, that game is about as unambitious as it gets. I’m just so sick of these massive corporations trying to squeeze every singular dime they can out of an IP, canon matters, and I’m left so jaded because the things I love are just constantly getting shit on.

      Every show (or movie) starts at a 10/10 and every time there's an issue it loses score (usually only 1 per issue, unless it's egregious).
