    3 years ago I covered this ultralight helicopter at a drone expo. Unfortunately, I didn’t give a proper view of the Mosquito helicopter so in this video I am doing a more in-depth review and first impression of the aircraft.
    Mosquito Helicopter is an ultralight single seat helicopter produced by Composite FX down in Florida. This aircraft is an ultralight and is in the experimental category. Meaning you can build one yourself after buying your kit and engine.
    You do have different options with engine choices and avionics. The Mosquito helicopter can be fitted with a piston engine or a turbine engine. Typical cost for piston engine models are right around $50,000 finished. For a turbine engine you’re looking at double the price mainly because of the price of the turbine engine. The specific model showcased in this video is the XET model which is fitted with a 95HP turbine engine. The helicopter will climb at 1200 feet per minute and can cruise at 80 miles per hour.
    This is a sweet little ride for the fun and adventures pilot. Training is required to operate your helicopter. For more details you can reach out to Composite FX.

      A single seat helicopter and you would decapitate yourself? TF would anyone be doing OUTSIDE of the cockpit of an operating helicopter? The rotors would literally never be in operation without you sitting in the cockpit. 😂

      Well typically you don’t fly a helicopter while standing on the ground next to it, so unless you are worried about your giraffe being able to fly it, it’s long way from head chopping height. Would have to be pretty retarded for that to be an issue, probably should keep your special helmet on and stay out of the cockpit.

      That could be problematic, depending on where your workplace is located. Wow, I remember watching a video quite a few years back about a guy (I want to say in Indiana) that was building these small 1-2 seater helicopters and was looking for funding to mass produce them. He wanted to sell his for around 26k so the average American income could afford it (his words, not mine). He eventually shut down and I thought I would never see another small personal use helicopter again but these folks have proved me wrong. Thanks for getting this coverage out there.

    I was at the Enstrom Helicopter factory in Menominee Michigan in 1980 for a one week school. Just walking through the fiberglass shop made me itch. The blow forming of the canopy bubble was hilarious to watch. The International Harvester Solar turbine is one tough little cookie. Having only been passenger in helicopters, I cringe getting into a piston powered ship. I like it that the governor on the turbine keeps the rpm's up when the pilot pulls for lift. The T-62 Solar was used in the H-3's I used to work on.

    Ok, now that you finally reviewed the mosquito, please Please PLEASE start reviewing gyrocopters/aerocopters/etc (other names, but all the same). They look like helicopters, but fly like fixed wings. I know I know I know that they're not a thing in the states, little interest, but interest in them here is growing. They're popular in Europe and now there's even an American company making them, in Maryland I think. Reasonably priced, fuel efficient, carries 1-3 people depending on company, make, and model, can fly up to 3-4hrs at a cruising speed of 100mph, very safe since they're pushers and the top rotor auto-rotates (not connected to engine). Just slowly hover down in an emergency landing. Of course it needs to be operated a certain way, but that's what the training is for right, safe fun and travel?

    • @gospfunk
      @gospfunk 5 років тому

      True, but an experienced gyro pilot can take off from a space the size of a professional basketball court and land in a space the size of a local tennis court. So, gyros can go almost anywhere. Safe to fly, fuel efficient, affordable to buy. Cruising speed, range, take off length, landing length, etc are right in between a helo and fixed wing. A goldilocks aircraft, depending on the model, for my fun meter.

    I bought a XE285 because of your videos, after much driving from Pennsylvania, its home with me now ready to build. Been a long time waiting for parts. Sadly one of the tail blades that came in the kit is corroded and I'm disputing a return with FX Composites.

      The Russians have a copter with ejection seats. A charge is built into the top of the rotor, and blows the blades off before the seat is ejected, giving clearance for safe ejection.

Those bastards should of spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a manufacturing shop, equipment, tools, engineering designs, research & development, prototyping, parts supply and raw materials ALL FOR FREE DAMNIT! Guess you should get rid of your phone, computer, tv, shoes and everything else you have bought because it cost a fraction to make it than what you spent on it.
