This is one of the most interesting videos I've seen in a while. And thank you for not putting 5 minutes of filler at the beginning, like most UA-camrs do nowadays.
As a former Blackhawk crew chief, I appreciate just how simplistic these videos are. It makes understanding assembly, how the parts operate together, and the flight very clear to any and everyone.
I'm am aircraft mechanic and I do composite work as well. At 12:37 min while showing your swash plate demo I noticed what looks like reinforcing patches in your upper rotor shaft torque box on the aft wall that are roughly laid up and obviously not vacuum bagged down. They weren't even sanded smoothe! I have to say that I'm surprised that you're using a weaker joint like that and cutting corners by using "backyard" building techniques. I won't even mention the use of fiberglass over carbon fiber!
It gets scarier the closer you see the details... Today I watched a new episode from a video series of building one of these units from a guy named The Okayest Engineer and the tail was delaminating so he had to patch it up. I wouldnt trust one of these builds the way the composites are laid out, really really sketchy stuff indeed.
This is the BEST helicopter kit on the market -- I had one from 2011 - 2019 -- after buying in 2008 -- you can do almost anything with this helo !!! Highly recommend it.
“No license to fly...” As a child I would look at ultralights and homebuilts as the promise of freedom. No license, just go. Now decades later as a commercial helicopter pilot with unrestricted ATP licenses in 5 countries, I can unequivocally say it’s a terrible idea. Go, buy and build an ultralight plane or helicopter. But please, for the love of Zeus... get a god damned private license so you have some clue of what you’re doing up here.
I live in E. Mesa, AZ. I live in the suburbs (houses close together). I own one and fly on the regular. Where do I land and or takeoff? In my cul-de-sac! I live near the superstition mountains, so I routinely take flights up near it which make for amazing views! Not to mention, it fits perfectly in my garage and my neighbors LOVE when I start her up and take off. You would think it'd be the other way around, right? Yeah, I have amazing neighbors!
You can see the excellent build quality of these machines, everything is so well worked out and does its job with good safety margins incorporated, the rotor head inertia is well thought out in its design and that control linkage speaks for itself everything does its job to good tolerances. Love the stars and bars American scheme that must have taken some masking ! would love to see a video of the drone flying. Well done Experimental aircraft channel, the factory described their machine very well.
Great video, three mosquitoes helicopters for a company at Van nuys airport one of them was a a mosquito air, and that was a really really cool ride. Unfortunately the company that the owner of mosquito helicopters is very aware of,rotor f/x it's about the most unsafe fly by night company I've ever worked with. So just to say my affiliation had not reflected the quality of workmanship from mosquito helicopters and myself. Thanks again for that awesome video and mosquito helicopters.
That makes two of us!! I was looking at a new Cadillac twin turbo, but where can I really drive it??? I wish I still had the grandparents farm in Lake Elsinore! This would have been so much fun!

Some constructive criticsm, kindly meant (and from experience). This is a little hard to watch but you can vastly improve it by developing your camera work. Essentially, don't use Autofocus and don't keep the camera recording whilst you are reframing a shot. Autofocus relies on the camera guessing what should be in foucus - and often getting it wrong. Moving the camera from one thing to another whilst shooting is nauseating for the viewer. For example, when shooting the completed machines in the hangar, either hold the camera steady and walk in a straight line (a tracking shot) or stop recording whilst you reposition to the next machine (an in-camera cut). Good luck! Bob. PPL(A) and (H).
Rodney flies. That Flag livery is candy, the rest of the video reminds me of my old manager Rodney. A cool guy, sometimes...but non the less i dont know you so you could be twice as cool and i like these tiny helicopters so this is very neat.
(from Brazil) wonderful ! congratulations !! I hope to see many of these here in Brazil !!!! We have space in this immense country for a helicopter like this !!!!! (and a horrible car traffic!)
I have worked in a brick making factory before and those cogtoothed belts are amazingly strong. Piece's of brick fall into the belt and the belt is destroying the brick with no damage to the belt. Some damage to the belt gears.
I was looking into one of these when they were $25K for the ultralight kit with the 5 gal tank and the fiberglass body. The issue for me was they kept moving the price farther and farther away. Otherwise I would have bought one.
It's the whole point of this mini. Helicopter is to get some experience as cheap as possible and then go get your real license because you know what the hell you're doing. You're missing the point.
It does not require a license because it's considered experimental. It's for people who want to learn to fly. If you have enough property or permission to fly in your neighborhood, you can do that. Depends on your location, but let's say you have a farm. You're perfectly within your right to fly in your property and get your practice in

Some helicopters are small enough to be classified as ultralights and require neither. The issue with freedom is that some people are going to be dumb and abuse it.
License and training are two different things. Most brands of ultralight aircraft offer training. Even as a licensed pilot, you have to have type training (training in the aircraft you are going to fly) before you can fly it. Just because you have a pilots license and have some time in a C152 doesn’t mean you can jump into a P51 Mustang and fly it around. And, our government has been known to give licenses to people who don’t have training, so there is always that to consider.
