***** About Venison for Dinner *****
Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stick around!
We put out a new video every Wednesday morning! We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

So cute Freja playing 20 questions with grandpa.
Yes, she loves to do this!
❤God bless you, your family and everyone watching
Good morning Kate! Can't wait to see this😊
Wow! Great hunting Kate! Love seeing all your can goods! What a harvest! 😊
Yes it's been a great year for harvesting.
A lovely peek into your days, Kate! Thank you for sharing. ❤ xo
You are so welcome!
Looks phenomenal ! Great life❤
Must feel good to have your shelves so well stocked heading into winter. Great job 👏👏
Yes it does! Thanks for watching.
Love the herb cupboard and the informational labels! I rendered lard in the same way a couple weeks ago. I'll have more to do in a few days! Also love your rebel canning. ;) So my children aren't the only ones who like to eat with their fingers and use their clothes as a napkin. lol I can hardly wait to have a dairy cow again. So excited that yours are close to freshening! Your videos are always so inspiring, Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for joining us here. Good to know I'm not alone in the finger food club!
That was a great way to start the day. Thanks! I like that what you do makes sense and you understand it!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing accomplishments, so inspiring ❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
💚 You've been SO busy and eating well! Wow, Kate, you got a bear 😮. Your pantry looks great and the kids are really growing. Thank you for sharing. 💚
Thanks so much! 😊
Good morning! I love mullein. 💖 Thankful I was able to forage some by the the river this season. Stinging nettle & tulsi I grow every year. 🌿 I love making hot chocolate for our kiddos with beef gelatin. So creamy! Jealous of your lovely animal fats! Well done! 👏🏼
Sounds like you have a lovely larder yourself! Thanks!
Congrats on the bear! Moose is my favorite. I hope they can get one. You are a hard worker! Such sweet children!
Thank you so much!
Way to go Kate getting a bear! I'm going deer hunting for the first time in 10 years next week, and I'm nervous and so excited! Sending you and your family love and positivity!
Thank you and good luck to you! Have fun too.
Great video. Thank you😊
You’re welcome 😊
I can relate
Most teas we drink are for health not for fancy flavour
Amen to reused lids!
Canned milk is amazing
I only started reusing lids a couple of years ago! What a "lightbulb" moment that was.
Love seeing meals of the week and all you have going on. Val C
Great is growing so fast!
I’d like to hear some of the songs! Or atleast see them. That’s a great idea!! I think my grandkids would love that. We sing to do everything lol
That sound lovely. Maybe when we get a bit better at singing them?? Hahaha. I will try to remember to share them.
Thanks for the inspiration! I’ve totally forgotten that I have lots of pesto in the freezer😋. I’ve had bear when I was little but I don’t remember its flavor ☹️. I grew up south TX so not a staple around there -Dad had to hunt out of town sometimes-deer and wild hog were our usual-fish, occasionally rabbit.
Oh yes broccoli salad tonight-I have lots of broccoli right now😋
I asked for my fat when we had calf butchered and he forgot to tell him-I was going to render for tallow for the first time-I’m so sad every time I see someone using it☹️
Thanks for joining us here! I can imagine how sad that must be to not be given the fat you had plans for!! (Apologies for delayed response)
Hi Kate and family ❤ always look forward to your videos on Wednesday 😊 God bless you abundantly 🙏🏻✝️❤️
Thank you! You too!
Loved this video! Have you tried using your apple sauce in cupcakes or cakes?
Yes, we do! Thanks so much for watching.
I have 1 due the 30th, we’ll see who wins! 😊
I LOVE my steam canner.... really want a second one... makes life so much easier!
That's so cool!
Hi Kate. We've seen short (secs) glimpse of your rebel milk canning, would you be able to do a video on that ie. Process, how long it would sit on the shelf, how it taste after opening it from storage, please? Would your method be similar to store bought long life milk? BTW, love your channel and LOVE LOVE how you don't have a title sequence!
Thank you so much for joining us here and for your kind comments. Unfortunately I won't be doing a video for UA-cam on my method. It likely wouldn't survive the sensors.
Okay enough with all the good food I want to move in with you guys please yummy
Hahahahah
I added lemon juice to my thick marinara sauce and water bath canned yesterday. Now I am second guessing myself and think I should have pressure canned this. I may redo that today.
If you search the internet there is information about how much lemon juice or citric acid you can put in to avoid spoilage if water bathing. Perhaps you put enough in? Also, if it's not a large amount, you could label it 'use first' so it's not stored for over 6 months?
I canned goat milk this year, love love it! Love your pantry and videos
Oh that's great. Thanks so much for watching.
I just love watching your channel, I am a married lesbian from Ohio, we have 5 children, two teens adopted, still at home
Wonderful!! How are the teen years?? We've only just started!
Lovely, as always! Can you please, please do a pantry tour!?
I'm sorry, I won't be doing a pantry tour anytime soon.
Oh, that's sad, but you're busy, I totally understand!@@VenisonforDinner
Your storage pantry is incredibly impressive.
Thanks so much!
But now I need to know what tables are not for, lol. Ya'll are awesome.
Boney asses 😂
❤❤❤
Is the recipe for the fries on your website?
Here you go...
venisonfordinner.com/crispy-oven-fries/
Oh I wish I knew how you got those fries to go so good fries in the oven never work out for me
This recipe is in an upcoming course, I actually think it will be finally released today! All about kitchen basics.
😁😁😁😁@@VenisonforDinner
What do you use the bear fat for? Does it have a strong smell?
We use it for cooking and baking. The smell depends on what the bear was eating, so if it did have a strong smell I would only use it for cooking. Ours did not.
Crispy cheesy fries crispy because of the lard or some other way?
I think a lot of it has to do with lard and then temperature
Congrats on your bear! Are you going to make tallow from it?
And you answer that later on in the video. Have you done soap with it as well?
Thanks!!
No I haven't ever made soap with bear fat.
So. What have you been doing? KIDDING. You need a vacation.
Hahahaha
Good morning from Sudbury Ontario. When you were making your Sunday breakfast and your son likes mutilated eggs my dad calls them over and killed lol that's how he likes them too.
thats funny!
Not sure if this is a topic you'd be willing to comment on but what is your biblical perspective on being the provider of your family when the bible states the husband/father should be the family provider? Back in the day it was not even a thing for the mother to provide financially so seeing this trend of women bringing their husband home from work has me curious about the biblical stance on it.
I think of the proverbs 31 women and my husband still very much being the spiritual head of our house which is more important than from whom the money flows. Marius and I actually both work on our business, he does behind the scenes things, Im just more the face of it. A team effort ♥️
he also seems to be a great provider of your food and other land things which counts for a lot too! @@VenisonforDinner
My sauerkraut had maggots in it!! That’s never happened to me before. Any thoughts?
My thought is that you didn't cover it properly while fermenting. And was it in an area that was too warm?
Curious about the tobacco??
I"m curious too!! Not sure what Marius has planned yet.
@@VenisonforDinner hahaha that's a great response
Barefat is the best boot grease ever I was always told that stunk but when I got my bear I rendered down the fat and only kept one jar because I figured that's all I need don't need the rest of it put it on my boots and lasted for two years without my boots getting wet i've never had boat grease that worked they always never worked but barefoot works excellent Ohh yeah I didn't have any smell either so I should've kept all the bare fat bears have a lot of fat
That's great. We haven't tried that yet.
😁😁@@VenisonforDinner
It'll be funny to see if your cows give birth before me or not. I'm definitely not 2 weeks beforehand. 🙁
Best of luck to you!!
