Btw, for all of you wondering where the Joker blowing up the hospital thing is: turns out it WASN'T really improv'd - at least, not in the same way the rest of the list was. Hey, you learn something new every day!
THANK YOU. Yeah, that's an urban legend that has to die. Don't make Heath Ledger's performance less impressive though.
Rebecca you're so HOT!
Really?? Ok
Rebecca we love you so much , greeting from middle-east ... wishing u all the success
Thanks I was about to lose my mind
Is it just me or does her voice sound different when you see her face
Also not in a recording booth
Yeah. Do the voice the right way.
@@RawhideProductions1There are often obstacles to doing all the voice work at the same time, especially when some is on camera and some is off. Also, looking at the speaker or not can trick the brain into the audio sounding different, as can presence or absence of background sound. I often have to remix my own audio, all recorded at the same time, in sequence, to make it subjectively *sound* the same when I am on camera vs off! Brains are weird.
@@veshengri i tindered her. She didnt do the voice on our first date. Left swiped and got out of there.
Same effect with Siri
The fact that Leo kept going after that injury is impressive, and it still amazes me how he just kept going
It was very uncomfartble
Hey Brandon, how's world domination going?
@@Whineanddine52 *nice*
How about Kerry Washington not completely flipping out when he smeared his BLOOD all over her face?
Eguzzisme
That wasn't his real blood. They used a different take for that.
Rebecca’s voice is so iconic especially to me since I have been watching Watchmojo since I was young.
I love her
Charlie Rose 2003 shes soothing😂
You're still young if you think that was that long ago.
J. Frost well yeah
Read me my notifications please
I love the look on Keira Knightley & Orlando Bloom's faces when Johnny Depp did that
Both of them help sell the scene even more, with the actors just as lost as the audience on what's going on.
a lot of this scenes, in my opinion, show perfectly the difference between an actor and an ACTOR
wot
Markus Strobel so just the caps lock????
Is “ACTOR” read in the same way as Calculon saying it?
Actor and Artist*
You can actually notice the look on Tom Hanks face in that scene like dude what the hell are you talking about
*And it still took a while*
Before Leonardo to get his Oscars
I agree I think he should've gotten an Oscar for The Aviator that was a great movie. 🙂
Duchi it took even longer for Al Pacino
@@batgurrl way long overdue
alex kanyima 👍👍
Zelda Williams
Yeah but Jamie Foxx *really* deserved that Oscar for Ray
"I'm gonna ask you this one this one time. Where's Gamora?"
"Yeah! I'll do you one better. Who's Gamora?"
"I'll do you one better. WHY IS GAMORA!?"
Dave Bautista improvised the why is Gamora line
Torraduke -
Or when Chris Pratt dropped the orb when they were visiting The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy or his iconic line, “If I had a black light, this place would look like a Jackson Pollock painting.” Even his obscene gesture was improvised.
I don't think so that could be improvised. How come the camera turns to Drax even before he was gonna say it like they knew it all along???
@Luke Sanchez Well, if you closely look on the scene. Only a single camera turns from Quill to Stark and then Drax. They didn't pause and cut from one camera to another. If it was improvised (And, I haven't seen any of the cast talking about it yet) the camera man should have had a sound sense or it might just have been in the original script or might have been added later.
@@raizahasmath5580 He's right, there are multiple cameras. Also, you can Google it to find out if it was improvised or not. It was.
@@raizahasmath5580 they probably said that he would do that right before the scene
Why isn't the scene with Matthew Mcconaughey beating his chest from The Wolf Of Wall Street not in this list? That scene was also improvised by Matthew and is one of the most iconic scenes from that film.
Didn’t DiCaprio suggest he do it beforehand?
Luke Donoghue no o don’t think he did , I have reason to believe I heard DiCaprio talking about the scene in a round table or maybe in a behind the scenes but if you pay attention to the movie , you can see Jordan look around in confusion , that was actually Leo looking at Marty because he was confused . But I’m not completely sure , rewatch the movie or maybe the scene and I think you would be able to tell what I’m talking about 😊
Yes, that was his warmup and also saw it and told him to do it
@@turtle1154 no, the part where dicaprio looks to the side when matthew first starts beating his chest was him making sure that it was ok, he was looking at the director
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Harry and Ron disguise themselves as Slytherin students Malfoy asks Harry: 'Why are you wearing glasses?' and Harry says: 'Oh, er, to read.' and Malfoys reaction is: 'Read? ...I didn't know you could read.' That last sentence was improvised too.
I feel that is one of the best improvised scenes. Tom Felton was TWELVE and had forgotten his line. so he thought of that in the moment. And he seemed so genuinely impressed! Such a talented kid!
yep
Daniel Radcliff also improved parts of when he faces Mr. Malfoy too! I can't remember specifically what he says, though...
That was prob the most funniest scenes in hp XDDDDD
@@BloodieHime12 he was 14 at the time
16:03
Jesus he just Smeers his actual blood in her face and she didn’t even see it comming
I love dicaprio’s acting though
Christ the trauma she had-
There's no way that's true
@@delta2ish Why?
Is it really that unthinkable that he could do something like that to hide a accidental injury?
It is not real blood. They did the scene with fake blood. Idea came from DiCaprio's hand cut though.
Anyienk9 Because it’d be a dick move to smear your real blood all over someone’s face. Not to mention you can just open yourself up to all kinds of lawsuits with that.
I must admit that I owe Mr. DiCaprio a huge apology. When I first became aware of him as an actor I dismissed him as another "Pretty Boy." until watching him in 'Romeo and Juliet' and was taken aback by his performance. My respect only grew watching him in 'Django unchained' and 'The Revenant.' Well done Mr. DiCaprio, well done!
Same
I know it's been 4 years since your comment but ..
His performance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape was, in my opinion, one of his best.
10:51 You can tell , that Hofman was improvising, by watching the Extras in the background looking geniunly surprised at the Taxi and Hoffmans shouting.
Gunnery Sergeant R Lee Ermey was speaking from experience during those scenes. As a former US Marine I can safely say that Gunny had uttered those words to young recruits in his charge on many occasions. Marine DI's don't physically abuse recruits in general as it is against regulations. Yet, those kinds of verbal rants are still common. RIP Gunny Ermey, Semper Fi
He also made the best Geico commercial ever.
From stories my dad has told me of his Parris Island days in the 70's there was some physical abuse. Although he did say that it had toned down considerably by the time he was even there. Now I can't verify any of it, and I imagine most of it isn't exactly an on record kind of thing, but he's always told me that FMJ is the most accurate portrayal he's ever seen.
E
I personally quite like in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Lucius Malfoy turns to Harry and says "Let us hope Mr. Potter will always be around to save the day" and Harry's reply of "Don't worry; I will be." Turns out Jason Issac decided to just turn and throw that random line at a 12/13 year old Daniel Radcliffe just to see what he'd do and Daniel just took it in stride and gave back that iconic line. Was very impressed when I learned that.
Me too! You are absolutely stunning
"Are you talking to me" is probably the best improvised Moment. It perfectly fits the character of Travis Bickle and is rightfuly so iconic
Heath Ledger's Joker clapping at Commissioner Gordon's promotion!!!
Md Saif his face during that scene was hilarious 😂
~ 5:16 R.I.P. the great and incomparable Rutger Oelsen Hauer in "Blade Runner," and thank you fort his most informing and interesting improvised movie moments video. Cheers, DAVEDJ ~
I’m not surprised Robin William’s story in Good Will Hunting isn’t on this list. I mean, this is WatchMojo we’re talking about.
Maybe that's where Matt Damon learned to improvise personal stories
I pegged this as top or near it and was shocked it wasn't even mentioned.
Heath Ledger clapping. The Dark Knight.
Sad that Jim Carey’s bathroom scene from Liar Liar isn’t on here. All the script said was “Jim goes in bathroom, beats himself up.” Everything else was spur of the moment for Jim.
What about Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in Pretty Women? He closes the jewelry case on her hand and she does her iconic laugh... all improved she had no idea he was gonna do that
I like Christoph Waltz as much as the next person, but Leo deserved an oscar for Django waaaaay more
They forgot Tom Feltons improvised line as Draco Malfoy. In the dungeon hallway in Chamber of Secrets when Harry and Ron are using polyjuice potion Harry forgot his glasses on and Malfoy asks why hes wearing glasses Harry says reading and Draco says
"I didnt know you could read"
Well you can’t include every single improvised line in the world in a video
@@cherrybomb4792 I agree. But I just thought it was worth mentioning.
They did that in another video actually
@@guccirich8858 oh I'll have to watch it!
Easy: Madeline Kahn's "flames on the side of my face" monologue from Clue. Most iconic improv ever.
Clue. The director had the actors on a TIGHT leash, and yet Mrs. White's breakdown showed Madeline Khan's brilliance. Her entire "Flames ... Flames on the sides of my face ... Heaving ...Breaths ..." was on the fly, and the other actors' reactions (i.e.. Martin Mull/Col. Mustard's face!) were genuine.
"I'm WALKING HERE!"
How is Heath ledger not in this?
he improvised so many memorable moments
For example the clapping scene for commissioner Gordon
Or the scene where he blows up the hospital & shakes the detonator
Bart Darrow
But that’s just called a “choice” and all professional actors do that. Heath Ledger’s every little choice in The Dark Knight has been so overanalyzed and over-celebrated since his demise. This always happens whenever a celebrity dies. His portrayal of The Joker wasn’t even accurate. To be fair, he portrayed an Elseworld’s version of the character.
*Commissioner
Neg Ative thank you! All people do is overhype him because he died
Corben Heaton
Thanks i’ll edit it
An all time favorite : In Goodfellas when the boys show up to Tommy's mothers house with a dead body in the car, the mother was played by the directors mom. He told her simply that 3 guys were gonna show up for dinner and that was it, she just started talking to them on her own!
Omg she hadn’t been told about the given circumstances! 😱
The jar of dirt bit had me dying when I 1st saw it
"Hand me the fucking keys" should be in top 5... this scene is so hilarious and perfect that they decides to keep.
Bill Murray's "Cinderella story" in Caddyshack. Harold Ramis told him to just pretend he's the announcer in his own sports scene and Bill Murray did the rest.
Hands down, the barracks scene in Full Metal Jacket is the greatest improvised dialog in movie history.
Not really. a professional reusing lines from his job is barely improv
6:05 kudos to the other guy, who also followed the improvisation by falling with the shoot. imagine if he would've just stood as it is. it would've ruined the fun.
I may have already commented on this video because I've seen it before but Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam. During the broadcast scenes the only line that was scripted was "Good Morning Vietnam".
That was my favorite scene from D'Jango!
Leo is one of my favorite actors
Rutger Hauer wrote Roy’s monologue the night before shooting that scene and Ridley Scott liked it so much he used it in the movie. The original scene Roy was only going to say “Time to die”. The addition of these few lines epically cement the theme of the movie in one scene. It forces this movie to be about what it means to be human.
Rutger Haur’s improvisation is the greatest imo
I totally agree.
The Joker hospital scene from the Dark Knight is a good improvised scene too
Except it wasn't. If you mean the detonation scene its a misconception that it was improvised
Robin Dreier there’s a lot of rumors that it wasn’t improvised but a lot that it was. I have the screenplay and it doesn’t have it on it, but hey... who knows
@@rfm200 If I recall this correctly I heard that basically the part twhere the detonations don't go of..while unplanned was well because technology has failed them. So it might or might not count depending on who you ask?
Not at all, it's been constantly denied forever that it was improvised. it happened in rehearsals and despite what the guy above claims it is in the script.
Just realized when anthony hopkins mentions the “chianti” line; the hissing after is how one self-aerates wine in the mouth when drinking wine. 👀👀
Favorite improvised Line. It was Real knee jerk reaction. His voice changed ... it true improvisation.
.
.
.
“Hey I’m walkin’ here ... I’m walking here”.
I wouldn't consider the helmet kick/toe break scene from The Two Towers "improvised". It was scripted that Aragorn kicks the helmet and then screams, and they did the scene several times because Jackson wanted Mortensen to kick the helmet closer to the camera. It was good acting not to break character, but not improvised.
There's no better than "Mein Führer, I can walk!"
Joe Pesci's "How am I funny?" scene in "Goodfellas" wasn't true improvisation, though: Pesci wrote the scene (at Scorcese's request) before they filmed it. Which is why Pesci's line after "Frankie, was he shaking?" (where the clip here cuts off) is "I wonder about you sometimes, Henry. You may fold under questioning!" Which, of course, foreshadows the ending of the film.
That Tarzan yell is badass!!! There was a subtle comedic moment in Star Wars episode 6 when Chuy was swinging on a vine and made the noise. It’s so funny because it’s unexpected and random in the middle of the battle.
Watching actors just get taken away by their character is an amazing process to watch, and I think the difference between a good and great actor is the ability to just let the character take control for a bit
How U Guys Missed Denzel’s “King Kong Ain’t Got Shit On Me!” ??? 🤦🏾♂️
Ooops, a little mix up on #17. Belushi did indeed improv the cafeteria line scene of food stuffing, slurping & gulping as you reported -- However the zit scene, replete with the mashed potatoes spit, was as described in the script along with the "I'm a zit, get it?" line. Only difference was, in the script, he was to be standing when he spit the potatoes. Babs' line "That boy is a P-I-G pig!" was a partial improv... in that it was written, "That boy is a pig". The rest of the lines in the scene were exactly as written by the inimitable Harold Ramis, Doug Kenney & Chris Miller.
How was "I love you!" "I know" in the honorable mentions?!?!
It should’ve been top 5
i know from star wars deserves more credit because they implemented that improv into the next movie
Amazed Rutger Hauer improvised that - So heavily referenced now!
You should also have mentioned the German movie "Victoria", which is a one-take movie that is fully improvised - and really really good!
Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye's "Sisters" scene in "White Christmas" is one of my favorites.
That part in Django gave me chills when i 1st saw it never knew it was improve bravo👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
By the way the Hopkin's hissing/slurping sound wasn't made up on the spot, it was similar to the Jaws line. He used to do it freak Jodie Foster out on set so he incorporated it into the scene.
Marlon Brando and the cat in "Godfather"?
nice love improv thank you for sharing
6 words: "Leave the gun, take the cannoli"
was that inprovised for real?
an all-time favorite line.
@@user-wz9ru7gq1n yep, check some facts videos about the mafia film
Best improvisation EVER.
Me at the beginning of the vid: I am iron man?
End: DAMNIT!!!
It basically sums up his character arch!..Bravo Robert Bravo
Thank you watchmojo for an awesome video👍👍
Forrest Gump Lieutenant Dan busted out the Hey Im walkin here line when he was in his wheelchair and hit the cab just like Hoffman lmao. Makes it funnier to me now
My favorites are 'the jar of dirt' and 'get help' from Thor Ragnarok
Looking at the reaction of the lady behind Hoffmann, yes, it is an improv.
"Who's he then?"
"Must be a king"
"Why?"
"He hasn't got shit all over him"
100% Python improv
i once used tarzans yell as sound for my line messages... nice at the beginning ;)
Jonny Depp is and has always been my favorite actor. He rly BECOMES the character and his lines are iconic. I hope he only has a lucky path from now on. With all the shit he faced in life I rly wish him stability and peace.
FLAMES ON THE SIDE OF MY FACE!!!
What about Martin Sheen in Apocolypse now- the hotel drunk/ stoned scene, or Demi Moore in GI Jane shaving he head?
Love that we can see the host on this one. Please do this more
As a long time fan WatchMojo I am really enjoying how they are showing us what the voices behind these lists look like, its nice to put a face to a voice i have heard for years
RDJ improv’d most of his lines in the first Iron Man movie, but the most important one HAS to be “I am Iron Man.”
Never knew the warriors one was improv 😂 fantastic 👏🏻 Iconic 👏🏻
John candy in uncle buck. When he sees the principals wart!! Lol that whole scene is hilarious.....miss you John.😳😘❤️😔🙏🤪😇
#20 exceptional improv. How did you come up with that. My mind is blown
"funny how?" 😂😂😂
Like I’m a clown to you???
8:00 lives on a jungle for most of his life but still hairless and flawless.. sana all
I love Rebecca's voice
ggthtrhr me too
Let's see... favorites... His Girl Friday has a few of them, like when Cary Grant tells someone to look for a guy who looks like Ralph Bellamy... of course the guy is played by Ralph Bellamy. Also Road to Morocco when a camel spits in Bob Hope's eye (for real) and Bing Crosby says, "Good girl!"
How is "She's got a......great ass!" from Heat not even an honorable mention? Al Pacino ad-libbed it and scared the hell out of Hank Azaria.
Django is not a good movie!?!
Its a masterpiece
Yes Parent Trap reference! Hahaha
I just watched that Aragorn scene band remember it being mentioned in one of these lists. I’m probably going to hell for laughing rather than grieving. But his scream did add to the moment. But I think anyone would scream and fall to their knees after breaking two toes.
"I know" should've been top 10 and a lot of Superbad was improvised, which should've made the cut
Hey Rebecca ,as always great voice and looking good
The final scene in Victor Victoria with Robert Preston is entirely ad-libbed. The best scene ever.
The Fugitive:
- "I didn´t kill my wife!"
- "...I Don´t Care"
16:13 probably a genuine reaction
There’s literally an interview with Seth Rogen where he talks about how he had to write out all the lines Steve Carell yelled and how he was watching TV and Kelly Clarkson just so happened to be on TV so he wrote her name down.
That voice is pure gold
Just recently watched django unchained. Great movie and leonardo was incredible
When Maleficent Mistress Of Evil comes out, could you do Top 20 Disney Villains Of All Time?
"What could possibly be more iconic?"
I was hoping so much for "I have the high ground" but I guess it wasn't improv'd
you underestimate my power
Many things from Grown Ups had to have been improvised, with the one that really sticks out in my mind being Kevin James's comment "It's like shaking hands with an eagle" after shaking Chris Rock's hand, which cracked Adam Sandler up.
Awesome
I love most of them. Just great actors, good choices. But I wonder: do women not do any impros? Of the 20, there is not one of a female actress (as a non-recipient).
*Number 1:* That one time when Ricardo Milos butt slaps with the Infinity Gauntlet and destroys half of the universe.
You comment on many videos of watchmojo,
Don't you?
Wow!!! At last I saw who was behind the voice all that time..:)
This is a beautiful epic
My favourite improv movie moment?
Drax: *”WHY IS GAMORA?”*
Poseidon that was improvised?! Wow...
