Curved Walnut Memento Box | How to Make Curves on a Bandsaw
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 вер 2019
- A client asked me to make one of my star shaped boxes to give as a gift to someone. I picked some curly walnut to use as the base of the box, and I found some maple for the lid, which has an amazing flame grain. The box has swooping sides that give it a graceful look. To get that look, I used the bandsaw and spindle sander, slowly shaping the box until it was perfect.
I hope that this project inspires you to make something cool in your shop. If you do, tag me on social media so I can see it. My profiles links are listed below. I love seeing inspirational pictures!

Yes, I too randomly make sound effects in the shop. It gets a bit unsettling for fellow commuters though when I do it on the bus. Fantastic box btw.
Beautiful and great instruction. Thanks
Billy, that maple lid is gorgeous! Yes, I make random sound effects in my shop, especially when I screw up!! All the best!
I liked the idea so much that I made one of those boxes.
Perfect!
Little late to the game here but I love going back through your videos for reference when I need to review a technique for a current project. I also have a Glowforge and do not have the courage to engrave a completed project. What I typically do is make a wooden "plate" with the engraving then attach with some 3M tape. I also quite frequently use a forstner bit to create a spot for an inlay. That way I can perfect the engraving then just inlay into the project. Great work, thanks for sharing your tools and techniques.
I'm having shop envy right now. Beautiful box!
Awesome box man. Makes me think of other ways to shape a box with a band saw.
Stunning, I agree! I am going to have to try this project when I have some extra time! Thanks for another great idea!
Beautiful box
Nice! Reminds me of a box the wood whisperer made a few years back…. Awesome videos as well
Love your shows keep up the good work!
Nice. Simple and good looking.
Thanks
Nice!
Really enjoy your channel glad I subscribed 👍 and you have a tree in your basement 😯 impressive
I have SEVERAL trees in my basement!
Billy a nice video. I like your build video, I like your tips. I would suggest that you eliminate the music when you’re speaking or turn it way down so it’s just barely background music I know from experience when I was building my channel.
good luck hope to see more great projects.
Nice box. I noticed on this video and most of your others you run your wood through the planner on an angle. Why do you do that, does it give you a smoother finish?
Great project and a very good explanation on how to!
I didn't get the glue you used,,,hide glue,high glue?

Thanks 😊
Engrave a pretty pattern on the right side.
Always laser a scrap piece first when doing projects like this
Good advice especially when you have only 1 piece of special wood
Little late but couldn't you have just sanded without removing the whole engraving and then glue a piece on top? I could think the engraving would just give the glue more surface area to adhere without having to remove all that material
I make random sound effects all the time, not just in the shop. Out there it’s more like Tourette’s.
Love your projects! You’re a perfectionist.
But please cut the crap music, just wanna hear what you have to say
