- Grafting several DIFFERENT FRUIT VARIETIES in the SAME TREE can cause unproductive branches, differences in vigor and in development cycles, as well as trees that are not very aesthetic. Grafting 2, 3 or more Fruit Varieties in the SAME FRUIT TREE is an effective way of using limited garden space but it can be a bit tricky. Choosing the RIGHT VARIETIES TO GRAFT into the tree main branches, according to your ZONE, is essential to be able to enjoy the benefits of a fruit tree that can produce different fruit varieties and avoid the most common problems.

Hello there JSacadura. There is one thing you might not be aware of on the pollinator situation. Honey Bees are not very good pollinators. They consume much of the nectar that all pollinators take as payment for their service, but it is wild bees that do the majority of pollination for a huge variety of plant life. Wild bees tend to only have a few varieties of plant life they dedicate themself to and are supreme in pollinating their favored plants. Honey Bees may be indiscriminate, but if they are competing with wild bees and driving the wild bees out, pollination will always be poor because Honey Bees dont pollinate very much by comparison. A single wild bee will pollinate many times more of their specific plant than an entire hive will, as the hive wont dedicate to it.
You can think of the bee pollination situation like your farming. If you focus exclusively on your pear trees, they will always be well maintained. But if you were to adopt an apple orchard, cabbage patch and many many other entire farms, the quality of all would suffer for lack of your personal touch. This is how it is for pollination. The honey bees will never focus on pollinating what you want them to, but they will drive all the smaller wild bees out of the area and leave less nectar around for other pollinating species.
Im not implying this is your problem with the low productive grafted pear trees, your assessment of them seems accurate. Just food for thought when considering pollination. Its not enough to just have honey bees as pollinators. Thats a global problem. The loss of wild bees, primarily through the 'save the bees' initiative which only saves honey bees at the cost of wild bees.
Boas,
I know about grafting two varieties of avocado, and two varieties of mango and even guava. But I’m not sure about tangerine orange and grapefruit. I’m 100% sure that one was a grapefruit because the grapefruit was the original tree. He told me that he started cutting it down when he thought of experimenting with it.
Well, thank you for sharing your videos. I’m already doing a lot of this, but I still learn from your videos. Great videos. Good luck.
Watching your videos is such a joy!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the comment.
Now I understand why I was reluctant to start grafting. I did not have enough information until this video! Thank you!
This video of yours here about grafting is, as always, full of information applicable to many other different fruits.
More power to you.
Glad it was useful. Thanks for the comment.
Nice video uploaded. Nice share 👍👍👍 my friend
Thanks for watching! Cheers!
Exactly my story...but I agree reward is much more than aesthetic.
One problem I found it's hard to decide pruning and other tree management in general with mix of low to high chill fruit trees variety grafted on one tree
Pruning is usually based on variety vigor to try and maintain a balanced tree. Managing many low and high chill varieties in the same tree is a challenge but, as you say, its well worth it.
Always something to learn. Thank you.
Thanks you for sharing your expérience. Very instructive for a beginner.
Thanks for the great and very informative videos. It is always pleasure to watch the videos and I cannot wait to do my first graft soon after I receive the equipment I ordered.
I will highly appreciate if you can provide more details on how to choose scion especially for loquat, citrus, and mango trees and how much fruit to expect. Thanks
A great video as always, thank you!
Cumprimentos.
I'm a new subscriber to your channel & THIS one just showed up in my feed! I'm so so glad I did!! REALLY great job, and I'm so happy to learn more & more about grafting, layering, and taking care of my fruit trees! Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks for the comment and the support.
Another very informative and enjoyable video, love it!👍🏻👍🏻

Great information!!
Same like before excellent work and love to watch... Thanks alot
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for the nice comment.
You always amaze. Great job.
Thank you I found this very informative video, I loved farming😍
Well done. Very interesting and useful video
the pear trees are so full of fruit. It's really interesting
Great video 👍
Excellent video!!! One thing to possibly be considered if one of the grafted varieties has a virus it could spread that virus to the other varieties as well.
Epic Videos!
Nice Information, about Grafting,👍.
the best keep it up!! Could you make a video showing various fruit trees one can plant in an orchard
The main limitations are space and climate (zone). The latter is very decisive since the trees might not produce or not survive the local conditions. Thanks for the idea.
Thanks for this, I’m currently grafting Japanese plums. The grafted scions are waking up, but the tree they were cut from is still dormant
Depending on the rootstock the grafted variety can be influenced to leave dormancy a bit earlier than the norm. Its interesting to use different rootstocks to see the effect they have on the variety (more vigor, early fruiting, etc...)
Thanks very much Master, and "tres Bon" French accent :)
It's the best I can do 😊. Thanks for the comment.
very interesting
Wow, I had NO idea! I just blithely got an espalier at a nursery, and started grafting on varieties randomly, never having heard of different development cycles, etc etc. No wonder I have a million questions. Thanks for the good info. What resources are there for researching the different important criteria?
wow nice
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the comment.
Excellent video!
You know you set yourself up for a request 😂
Share the 7 varieties used on the one tree at the end please.
I’m in the UK and according to a few gardening focussed map websites I’m in USDA zone 8b where I am.
I have Williams/Bartlett and Conference pear trees currently, the conference is very vigorous and the Williams is a medium level of vigour.
I’m wondering if you have either of those varieties grafted with some of those three French varieties you showed in the earlier part of the video.
Also less than 3 weeks now until I check the air-layering on that dwarf Apple tree sucker we discussed.
Thanks for pointing out some of those issues with grafting. I noticed your beehive has a different type opening than mine and I wonder what kind of beehive entrance / exit that is. Maybe you could do a video about your beehive and how you made it or where you bought it. Thanks.
These metal opening are standard with the beehives that are sold locally - distarmel.com/produto/entrada-para-colmeia/

I realy injoy your videos.
What i miss sometimes, is names on the vararities in your videos.
Late season, and red flesh pears as an example 😊
In my recent videos I try to name the varieties, whenever possible. In this older video you can check most of the pear tree varieties I have grafted in my mutivarieties trees - ua-cam.com/video/L_JI7n6QE7k/v-deo.html . The red flesh pear is Sommerblutbirne.
can grow pear in tropical climate(no winter at all)? how long to take tree to produce fruit with grafting vs nin grafting?
Great video keep up the awesome work you do. Question the main tree when cutting it does it have to be another fuirt tree or can it be a tree that I don't like has 3" truck
It has to be a fruit tree and compatible with the varieties you want to graft. Its always best to graft into a fruit tree of the same type (same species) to maximize compatibility. There are a few minor exceptions but that's the norm.
@@JSacadura thank you, for your experience to teach me and others the proper way to graft a tree 🌳.
Wow that looks amazing grafting 3-4 variety pair into one tree. What is the best month and timing to graft fruits trees? How long or how many months can you save the sion in a zip lock bag stored in the frog?
I have heard up to two months.
I want to graft my pear plant (1inch diamitrar rootstock)
1. Should i graft it on fall or winter? It now is fall in our country.
2. Scions diamiter is less then 1/2inch. Can it graft with chip-budding technique?
3. Can i graft it in mid winter?(winter tepareture 8-15°C)??
Hello mister sacadura,
Living in the Mediterranean, theres a lot of pyrus spinosa plants growing
Everywhere, most of them are grafted into pear or apple trees, besides the very vigorous growing is there any disadvantages grafting on them?
Thanks for sharing. When is the best time to graft?
In my area I prefer to graft most fruit types in early spring. The trees are leaving dormancy and the flow of sap induces growing and callus formation. Nevertheless, there are some exceptions. Persimmons, for instance, must be in full flow of sap to graft successfully, so I tend to graft them a bit later.
As informative and educational as ever, thank you so much! Can I ask what species of pear was the dark/purple skin one?
Thanks! That purple skin pear is "Red Williams". The intensity of the skin color is determined by the level of exposure to the sun.
@@JSacadura Thank you for that. I will have that in my garden then!
Sir could you please make a video about fruiting of mango tree for first time
What cause the apple flowers to go off?
I just started growing lemon's and never really grown any plants also I live in north eastern America anyone got some pointers to boost my chances.
If you have a large piece of land, even one or two fruits might be enjoyable to try the variety.
Boa tarde, Sacadura.
Can I graft apple into pear, peach or plum?
No
No. However plums, peaches, cherries, and apricots can be grafted to each other. These are all "prunus" species.
As Fatih and Alex have said, those fruit types are not compatible with apples. Usually you have to stay within the same species to be safe. In some cases, like in the genus Prunus, different species can be intergrafted but compatibility is not always guaranteed.
Hello : )
I’m finding this extremely interesting and I would like to know if is possible to graft peaches and apples to my pear tree or only pears to pears? Sorry if it seems like a childish question but this is knew to me😊
You would need to do more research, but there is one variety of apple (Winter Banana I believe) that lets apples and pears be grafted on the same tree. However consider that all the problems he mentioned in the video are going to be multiplied in a multi-genus tree (Apples genus Malus , pears genus Pyrus) versus a multi-variety tree. Apples and pears are 'pome' fruits. You cannot graft peaches to your tree as peaches belong to the "stone" fruit family. Peaches, plums, cherries, apricots are all in the "stone" fruit family (all genus Prunus, but different species)
@@christophermauchline2586 many thanks.
Onde costuma comprar a fita parafilme?
Ultimamente só a consigo encontrar na Amazon (US). Procurar por "Parafilm Nursery Grafting Tape".
Ura 😅

Dear Master Sacadura... ...someone hacked your youtube channel mailing list!
This week I have received to my email several inappropriated invitations for reply!
Check your data!
Saludos!!!
That's odd... I don't have a UA-cam channel mailing list to be hacked. I don't send emails to subscribers and don't keep a list. I don't even know the emails of people who see my videos or check my channel. It's UA-cam directly that sends notifications of new videos to channel subscribers.
@@JSacadura I will send you some screenshot of that invitations that I was receiving. Saludos!
