- Hello everyone! So in this episode I will give you a couple of different ways how you can introduce yourselves in Estonian. I will also teach you some extra things like how to ask someones name, how they are doing and how to end the introduction politely.

I really appreciate this video! My grandmother is from Estonia, but she had to flee from the Sovjet army. I have always been interested in Estonia (culture/history) and i think she would be happy if i randomly begin to use estonian language as in the video.
Again, Lissa, you are the only source I have for learning how to pronounce Estonian and aitäh for that. These videos are wonderful.

Tänan väga Liisa :) Also, i know it is off topic, but i seem to have trouble rolling my r's. I have no problem in words like tere, where the r is in the middle of the word, but when its at the end like Koer. Do you have any tips on how to figure out how to roll my r's?

Quite common in Australia, at least Tasmania, to just say your name and shake hands. At least that's what I've noticed.

I heard people say "Kuidas teie nimi on?". How is it different with "Kuidas on teie nimi?"
Also, how about "Meeldiv kohtuda!" and "Meeldiv tutvuda!"?

+Thai Nguyen I might be late but "Kuidas teie nimi on" and "Kuidas on teie nimi" is exactly the same thing. The verb "on" can be put almost anywhere in the sentence in Estonian, but usually it is the second word so "Kuidas on teie nimi" is more normal. "Meeldiv kohtuda" means Nice to see you and "Meeldiv tutvuda" means Nice to meet you. "Meeldiv kohtuda" can be used after already being met but "Meeldiv tutvuda" can only be used when first meeting someone. But you can use both when first meeting someone. Hope this helps.

Most of the time it is fine to change the order of the words in Estonian as it will still make sense. They both have the same meaning :). For the second question, the general meaning is the same, however, you cant use 'meeldiv kohtuda' if you actually didn't meet the person face to face.
It was not actually a question, just a little correction, I'm an estonian ;). You wouldn't use nice to meet you in that non face to face situation either.
I'd say that they pretty much exactly represent their english counterparts. Maybe not 100 percent, but they're as close as it gets.

When someone asks me how I am if it's the first time I meet the person, I'll just ignore that person for the rest of my life. I think Estonians and Finns are very polite for not doing that. I'm Bulgarian. Just not very sociable. I hate small talk.
Great video! Only one small thing - "Hästi" means well, not good (good is "hea")
hea and hästi are basically the same word ;) hästi comes from hea
***** I'm sure you know better, but I was under the impression that hästi was an adverb and hea an adjective (the same thing as well and good in english - a grammar Nazi like me would go crazy if you reply "good" when asked how are you doing :) )
I do think that Claudiu is right on this one.
Let's take this sentence for example "HEA toid läheb HÄSTI alla" would translate to "GOOD food goes down WELL".
And as I respond to this I notice that this little chain is two years old, oh well, maybe it will still be useful to someone.

Kube doesn't kind of mean penis kube means groin but yea it's a sort of unofficial how's it going, only among friends and even then someone might get offended if they're kinf of uptight.

"Mis on sinu nimi?" basically means "Where is your name?" in my native Finnish. That's pretty confusing. I thought our languages were closer to each other.
I think that speak mis on sinu nimi is not right, kuidas sounds better. Aga soome keelt on - missa on sinu nimi? - Kus sinu nimi on? Viimaks missa kahe punkti a all. Сто лет назад учил эстонский, вроде ничего не напутал. Успехов!
