- While in Tallinn, Estonia we thought it would be great to learn a little about the Estonian language. So we were lucky enough to have Mariel, a local Estonian UA-camr, help us out and teach us some basic Estonian words and slang.

Wow I've never seen any other Estonians that know Korean
Igor Blyat i am estonian and i know korean
Well they have a very small population of only 1.325 million, and the Baltic states are known for having a declining population.
@@lissandrafreljord7913 all modern economies have a declining population
There's only about 900 000 Estonians. People don't talk about Estonia often. I'm sure there are many other Estonians who speak it too.
A useful phrase for the visitor is:
Aoäiaõeuueoaõieaiaõueauaööau
This means “The night honour of a lullabye languaged dog in the yard of new bean-flowers belonging to the sister of my sunrisy father-in-law”.
It takes a little practice, but you do not know when you might get into a debate on the various grades of honour due to dogs, and it is best to be prepared.
Wha- Are you sure it means that? Because I can't see the word dog in that word.
I'am from Estonia and this video is soo cool!😊
Definitely needed this video. I'm going to live in Estonia for a year and the language is beautiful but sooo difficult!

Actually if you listen a conversation between two estonians then you can hear that they use 3 different languages in one sentense. English, russian and estonian.
Wow that's awesome 😮😮

I suggest you guys taking the 2 hour long ferry from Estonia to Finland it is 15 euros for an adult ticket and you have like a day to be in Helsinki and then at like 8 or 9 o clock the ferry is going back to Estonia and you will arrive at like 12 pm
Omg Helsinki sounds amazing. Hopefully we can make it there. Thanks for the tip though❤👍

Hello from Korea. And the whole talk sounds intimate and interesting. 다들 너무ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ자연스러운 거 아닌가요
nägemist means basically cya or see you (cya or see ya in slang)
I am from Estonia 💖
Random - suvaline, ettejuhtuv, ebatavaline, juhuslik - plenty of words :). It's more of a girly or childish thing in my opinion to use those typical English words in my opinion, at least when it's a habit. Sometimes it's normal to think of another languages words or phrase before remembering your own language's - when work or conversation's subject is something often littered with loaned or borrowed words.
Kurat lõpeta see suvakad

we spoke estanglais at home, what word came out for a concept or thing or whatever may have been in any language... but immediaely understood and next time, different words would be spoken, but not intentionally, just that they were "closer to the tounge"?
Beautiful and helpful video! Thank you. We are visiting Europe after helping a new school open in Lviv. Slava Ukraine! We're in Krakow, also amazing. We will stay in Tallinn for February, hopefully longer after my Digital Nomad Visa application interview on Feb 1st...
I am from Estonia. See on tsiau/tsau.

Hi! :-)
Wow.. gd im also trying to come and work as a truck driver in estonia
we dont have a word for random? what? random = suvaline, really = tõesti, not päriselt..päriselt = for real..I think Mariel forgot how to speak Estonian
Hei :) Yeah, we don't have the word for random but suvaline or juhuslik would be the closest to that in my opinion, if you want to express it in Estonian. And yes, you are right. I couldn't remember the word tõesti at that moment. I wasn't given any time to prepare, and I didn't know what questions would be asked, so I told them the words I remembered first :) Though for me päriselt makes sense.. people ask like that: really? for real? päriselt? if you hear something surprising and can't believe it, so it's not wrong!
It's actually sometimes hard to translate words on the spot. Your brain starts doing weird stuff and sometimed you forget even basic things. Has happened to me.
And also "päriselt" is perfectly good translation in that case. Though I would often use "tegelt?"
@@janeks301 Thank you!! Oh right, tegelt!! :D
@@Just_Mariel Tegelt is short version of it Tegelikult is full version. But Tegelt seems like more accorate couse Tegelikult can mean also actually.
@@janeks301 It really is btw interesting. Our brains store memories in sections and its theorized that the reason for not being able to recall stuff that we know is because ironically while the brains tries to "route" the right data in order to do that it disconnects other unrelated info for faster "info grab". Sometimes part of that info overlaps and gets blocked off as the brains thinks its unneeded, so you "know the answer" but it won't come to you.
This also explains why we stop thinking about something and it comes to us later as "the block is lifted" and the brain uses different route or blocks as we remember answers on the spot to questions of before.
Lots of fun research done on this field.
Im frow Estonia and this video isade so good and Estonia language ise so beaudiful (i can speak english )
Haha thank you and i agree it'a beautiful.
@Rachel and Nick
Check out the business next door (behind the wall).
I definitely saw you guys there few weeks ago(beginning of December).
Haha thats funny. Yep we were all over Tallinn in December 😊
I'm from estonia!!😱😱😱
random is suvaline
Pole olemas vanaaja eesti keel, oleneb mis sõna lektuuri kasutad
Mhm, I thought the same, random=suvaline, but I think the meaning, or the undertone of random in Estonian slang is a bit different from just suvaline (or suvakas in slang also, but again, not totally the same undertone as random, also spelled rändom sometimes with ä)
I'm an estonian/eestlane/virolane viro in finland meand estonia.
Also another way of saying goodbye in Estonian is hüvasti
My mum was born in ustonia so i know 😮
"Like"...- NAGU :) used often by estonians ;)
Okay I just wanted to say that there are words for random in Estonian, they just don't always go with the context (suvakas, suvaline, lamp)
"Juhuslik", tegelikult, kui slängi vältida.
Anyone else notice the people stopping behind the glass at 4.55?
I live in Estonia
Awesome. Which city? We would love to visit some other cities.
Omg I’m from Estonia
I’m from Estonia, actually Estonia language is on of the hardest languages in the world ☺️
I jus start, dnt scare me by saying hardest language ☺️
I agree.
Kõigi nende käänete pärast, ega see muidu nii raske polekski.
In addition to "päriselt?" and "päriselt või" estonians often append "ongi nii?" and "on ju?" at the end of their sentences, which is similar to English "isn't it?".
Really? - Päriselt? (more girly) or another one Tõesti?
Random means juhuslik in est
It's tsau no with Ciao
2:38 *Tšau
Not bad. Maybe will learn basics. Never been there
Heh Estonian is easy BTW its my 2 language so i know. It may be tough for others but for me it just clicked
