This was the beginning of the worst period of his career. Six years later, he was in Tin Machine!

Unlike many hardcore Bowie fans, I don't really hate Let's Dance. It's a good pop album, and for me the performances in the Serious Moonlight Tour were a little bit Little Richard-esque. Funny that he says about making earthlier sounds. Nevertheless, he regained the tunes that he had supposedly lost in the late 80s, with Black Tie White Noise and the following albums. His deal with the EMI records has always confused me, was it all intentional?

Exactly what I think! Let’s Dance was, although one of his last good ones until Black Tie White Noise, a brilliant contemporary album. People knock it, but it’s really the few that follow it which lack his individuality and flair. Despite joking about it a lot, he always insisted he was proud of the Let’s Dance and certainly enjoyed making it. Plus, 1983 Bowie was ridiculously pretty!

Those earthier and emotional sounds, can be heard in his 80s tracks Absolute beginners, this is not America, When the wind blows and Time will crawl
