He was my friend in 1951 1952 and 1953 I was 8 months older he was always acting dancing singing I moved overseas he moved away I knew him as Davey Jones until I was 40 and my uncle gave me a photo and asked me who is this of course I said Davey Jones and then he told me about the name change
Wow! Did you know Geoff MacCormack and/or George Underwood as well? I've read that they were all at Burnt Ash Infants School together. They worked with him in the 70s (and also the 60s in George's case).
Ah, I have a pristine Playbill and poster from The Elephant Man during Bowie's run! Lord, but that cost me some dosh. I'd trade either to have been old enough and in NYC to see him play the part. I was only 11 and in the Midwest at the time. 😐
What? Was there a time limit on this interview or something, or is the interviewer incapable of conversation? This is prewritten question followed by prewritten question followed by prewritten question. The best interviews of Bowie were the ones that allowed him room to be himself with all his humor and insight
He was being playful. The interviewer was glued to his notes and not really asking follow up questions so as a joke he took the paper away and ripped it.
They'd known each other for ten years at this point. David has an affectionate but slightly teasing relationship with "Molly" in all their interviews. He's making fun of the rather serious tone of M's scattershot questions, and coke (the drink, of course, ahem) is making him somewhat twitchy and excitable. He looks like a man who never sleeps, who's just too wired to sleep.
Bowie was the man ...

Wow, you were his childhood friend!

DAVID BOWIE WAS EXCELLENT! You can see this in the scenes shown. The actor playing Dr. TREVES IS ALSO QUITE GOOD.
The Best!!

I remember when this interview first aired on countdown. It was the first time I had seen him talk and Molly was in fine form of course.
Unbelievable that Bowie was actually channeling Anthony Newley his entire career!
"Yeah, but not in the morning."
Omg at 9:29 David being so playful
3 years before my birth
0:24 “Take such on a part” instead of ‘take on such a part’...

ok interview.
Ah that's Jack Steven(s)
I dunno why he tore the paper, I don't think the interviewer asked something stupid. That's kind of rude. I'm disapppointed with him.
