      US government doesn't care about it's vets nor the everyday people. Been like this forever. It's not about freedom it's strictly about power. Soldiers are just shitty yard tools for the government. They don't care about sacrifices or human life. As long as they make their money they're happy.

      I'm sorry but they chose to do this. Visit the VA office please and don't let these fake news do this to all of us that served. At the VA there's housing, Job training program, health care and disability. Please make your way to the VA office next to you and stop listening to fake news that wants to spread false reports. You and you only can do this not anyone else.

      What a choice of words. Most of us soldiers who fault in direct combat consider ourselves UNFORGIVABLE. I once had UNFORGIVIN tattooed on my arm before I had it covered. The way we are treated by the system and the public makes a person feel like you are hated for fighting to pay for the milk and honey we all love so much. Nothing is for free except for the value of the soldiers life

    I have said it since I have come back from Nam. America is good for waving the flag during Veterans Day and Memorial Day and after that we are forgotten. ALL MY THANKS FOR Dr. HECTOR GARCIA for the G I Forum!! Congress gets raises almost every year and Veterans get the shaft from Congress.Damn shame we have to go thru this, and this is the thanks America gives us.

      American veterans are the core of the Peoples Militia. If the states and Congress would do their constitutional duty to form and regulate militias there would be no homeless veterans and they all would be getting the best medical care and would be tasked with training future Minute Men for the defense of the Union. My ancestors fought and died for the Republic, and we honor all of our veterans.

      Thank you for what you do as a Patriot Guard Rider! We are incredibly grateful for you and your support of the Veteran community. Our headquarters is in San Antonio and we actually have several San Antonio Patriot Guard Riders who are involved in our volunteering efforts in and around the city. If you're interested in volunteering with us locally, here are some links where you can get involved:
      - We host a monthly food distribution for Service Members and Veterans in need an require many volunteers to keep the event running smoothly. You can learn more and register as a volunteer for the event here: SoldiersAngels.org/SanAntonio
      - We have various activities in San Antonio that require volunteers To get started, please visit SoldiersAngels.org/volunteer
      - The next Stand Down in San Antonio isn't until November, however, please take a look at these other great volunteer opportunities near you: www.signupgenius.com/tabs/13570df00a7caecc71-hqvolunteers#/

    Excellent video. We need MUCH MORE of these types of videos on social media to spotlight the problem and the solution. We need volunteers to help out at these events. As a veteran myself, I use to serve at these Stand Downs but as my own health has progressively gotten worst, it's hard to get around. The ONLY days that the American public "may" think about the volunteered military is on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. It really enrages me when the average person know nothing about these holidays, other than thinking it's a "day off" or for "BBQs"!

    • @SoldiersAngels
      @SoldiersAngels  2 дні тому

      Thank you for your service. These Stand Down events are a great help to the community--thank you for your help at past events! We definitely agree about more volunteers. For those who may be interested, Soldiers' Angels volunteers work at Stand Downs across the country throughout the entire year. If anyone is interested, get started at SoldiersAngels.org/volunteer

    Its also that not getting approved for apartments. They say thank you for your service. But you don't qualify to receive or use the benefits that we have. To me when they say thank you but you don't qualify for a service. It feels like a knife 🔪 in the back, that they really don't care . And feels like we are treated like a 2class citizen, for the service that we do for the country,

    There's no words for the way American Veterans are neglected. No Loyalty or Empathy for the very people that protected our country. Our government needs to do better than that.
    If America can house millions of Undocumented Illigal Migrants, not to mention how many of them are violent criminals, THAN the SAME can be done to our VETERANS. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

    Does that mean that 'dishonorably discharged' are up Shit's Creek without a paddle?
    I knew a homeless soldier that was dishonorably discharged for raising his voice against a female soldier. He served for many years, even went on a couple of deployments. His life was ruined because of the army's version of HR! . . . Why the discrepancy between dishonorable and honorable?

    • @SoldiersAngels
      @SoldiersAngels  2 дні тому +1

      Dishonorable is not eligible for VA benefits. However, he can request an appeal of that classification through the Board of Appeals if he feels it was an unjust discharge type.

    What they don’t tell you (and this is perhaps intentional) is that *combat* veterans - those who served in a forward operating position and took part in combat (infantry, mechanized units) or had direct combat support roles (gunships, Medivacs, etc), are statistically •
    *less likely* to be homeless than their counterparts. In fact they are less likely to abuse alcohol and drugs, more likely to get married and stay married, and almost 2x as likely to open their own business. All of this dispels the mythology that tens of thousands of U.S. veterans are coming back from war zones shell shocked and suffering from PTSD. Or to clarify, tens of thousands of veterans are claiming PTSD, but they most certainly did not serve in combat. Statistically only about 10% of our men and women in the military service in combat or combat support roles. Yet some of these veterans; HVAC technicians, shipmates, plumbers, landscapers and admin assistants, have come back (sometimes from deployments not even in the Middle East or combat areas) and are currently sucking billions out of the VA. Next time you encounter a vet stating they are homeless, ask them what their M.O. was, ask them where they served, what branch, ask them if they are a combat vet. Chances are, they are using their veteran status to excuse poor life choices and tendencies towards substance abuse.
    Not trying to sh*t on anyone here but the vets that actually do need VA benefits have to wait in line in a system clogged with people doing everything they can to turn themselves into “victims.”

    • @scallopohare9431
      @scallopohare9431 4 дні тому

      Yikes! So much, so wrong. I will settle for saying that combat PTSD gets preferrential tx. Whole floors staffed with MD's and PhD's, while other veterans are sent to out-of-the-way Vet Centers with social workers, whose dx are not admissable for C&P.
      Nobody chooses to be homeless. There is a lot of substance abuse involved, and I am not especially sympathetic, but they served, and they deserve equal benefits.

  • @gottagift
    @gottagift День тому

    It is best to prioritize homeless services for single parents with children, the chronically mentally ill, ex-offenders released from jail, Physically disabled, drug addicts and veterans, in that order. An honorably discharged veteran is going to be better prepared mentally and physically to cope with the hardships that come with being homeless. If a Veteran who is homeless also happens to be physically disabled or addicted to drugs or recently released from prison, then they would move ahead in the criteria for receiving homeless services. But this advancement would be based primarily on the overlying condition. To prioritize a person based solely or primarily on the bases of having served in the military is ideally, counterintuitive to the goals of providing service to the homeless population as a whole.
    To place everything into a perspective all can appreciate, suppose you were to go on the 100th anniversary cruise of the SS TITANIC. It April 15th, 2012. there are 2,200 passengers with enough lifeboats for 800. For some unexpected reason, halfway into the cruise the ship begins to sink. You know have to decide who, out of the 800 passengers should be prioritized first. Let your answer be your final answer and use the same decision making process when deciding about something like homelessness.

    How are vets homelessness va pays 4k a month for disability 2k a month for partial disability???????

    • @abcdeabcde9992
      @abcdeabcde9992 8 днів тому +6

      It's not that easy I've been fighting to get my Service Connected Disability for over 40 year's for going over the side of A mountain in 1977 a 360 foot drop where my ankles were tied up in the canvas and went end over end all the way to the bottom.
      But because The VA claims my x rays at the time of the accident didn't show any spinal injury and back then there was no cat scans or mri's.
      And didn't file my 1st claim untill 26 year's untill after Discharge because I didn't know I could file for compensation. No one ever told me.
      Bottom line no Disability Compensation is automatically pais out to us Veteran's we have to file a claim and it takes year's to go through the exams etc and then most time's they are denied then we have to go through an appeal process another year or two.
      For a decision and what percentage if awarded?

    • @scallopohare9431
      @scallopohare9431 4 дні тому +1

    How is this disabled seargeant homeless when he is medical discharged? Doesn't he get disability pay? If not, why not?

    • @SoldiersAngels
      @SoldiersAngels  2 дні тому

      There are many factors that play into disability pay. Just because someone is medically discharged does not mean they receive 100% disability. A medical discharge is less than 30%. At the time this Veteran was discharged, he may not have had any additional medical issues that would have increased his disability to above 30%. This is where it becomes very important for Veterans of all generations to review their disability rating regularly which may help them increase their rating and pay. Each Veteran's situation is unique and it can be challenging to navigate the disability review process, especially if they are trying to do it alone. Our blog discusses the importance of reviewing disability and the organizations that are out there to help Veterans navigate this process: soldiersangels.org/va-disability-rating-reviews-a-necessary-endeavor-for-vets/
      As for the homeless component, there are any number of reasons why anyone, including Veterans, end up homeless and it should never be assumed that because someone is receiving disability pay they won't end up on the streets. As we mentioned above, medical discharge is only a 30% rating. In the interview, Albert mentions raising a family. If he is unable to successfully hold a job due to cancer or any other wounds, illnesses, or injuries he may be enduring, the pay he would receive from 30% disability alone would be a very small amount to raise a family.
