Fairly Stock E30 BWM (M20 engine n/a) on the dyno. We fully tuned the DIYPNP MegaSquirt EMS, then did a back to back comparison of the OEM ECU, versus the DIYPNP fully tuned.
Then finally, a comparison of the DIYPNP with the AFM still in place, versus with the AFM deleted to improve intake flow a bit.
Picked up as much as 23whp and 23ft-lbs of torque 'under the curve'.

Jerry, would you post a link to this particular file ? i'm having a bit of trouble with Mac versions as had it running on XP. I'll also like to double check all my parameters. Thanks, Frank

Ok man, thanks for your reply, you should then have a manifold air pressure sensor, instead (you actually need to tell the engine how much air is getting inside the manifold, or you do have another solution (throttle plate angle sensor??) ?
    Thank you

If the rev limiter on the standard ECU had been moved up higher, as the MS, would the differens been that big? Just a thought. Im gonna buy MS for my 325T

Is that the MegaSquirtPNP G2 B8793 in the store? Is your idle control valve blocked off at 3:58 / is it still required? What injectors would you recommend on a setup like that? - TY

great job ,i have bmw m50b25 i want to install turbo on the but on stock ecu and stock fuel pump and stock injector how much boost car with stock engine can take

you can probably make 350 hp, maybe more from that engine, stock, but I would imagine you would be tempting fate. asking how much boost an engine can handle is kinda a pointless question.
The engine may well hold 90 psi, but it sure as hell won't run long. people forget that in order to have pressure you must have the fluid flowing or moving first, it is only the resistance to flow that creates pressure. so basically, there are just to many different factors at play to just say "it holds 20 psi of boost".

will the icv still work if it's set the way it is in this video? if I turbo mine, can i still leave it the way you displayed on this video? I'm assuming it doesn't matter where the bypassed air comes from?

I am wondering about the same thing.

He just did a quick swap to see the difference.
The icv now takes unfiltered air from the environment.
Not a problem in a garage but in a normal setup you need to make an inlet behind the airfilter to the icv

@foundsoul9 Ah, OK. As I said, i was just an thought. A complete set of MS to a 325, what is the cost of that? Cables, boxes, everything.. Is it hard to wire up - For half-noobies? ;p

Will the AFM delete work without the megasquirt unit?

  • @ALXG

Good gain simply from replacing ecu. ~12-13%
BTW this motor should have 168 hp on stock ecu.
The freshly rebuilt engine might go up to ~190hp if a 13% gain remains.

  • @zenitramnaes

No, not if you have a stock ecu.

so the engine originally had only 142 hp at the crank (15% drivetrain loss, 121 hp wheels). that's bad coming from 170..
still after tuning only 160 crank horsies
