I actually got the RTX 2070 Max-Q in the end the Dell model I bought was charging an extra £100 more than the RTX 2060 model, but that extra hundred also got me twice the memory and twice the SSD size. Which was easily the better deal in the end.

Thanks to you Mr, I have bought Acer Predator Helios 300 2019 with RTX 2060. This review is still pretty relevant in 2021 as the 2070 Max-Q are still at least $150 more then the RTX 2060 laptops. If you were to run it to an external monitor the price difference is probably worth it. Especially if its 1440p. That extra 2gb RAM makes a difference and you get an FPS boost bypassing Nvidia Optimus.
Would u make a review for the hp omen 15t with the rtx 2070 max q version i can not find any review for this laptop U r one of the best reviewer out there i really need ur opinion
Thanks! Unfortunately I can't cover any HP stuff at the moment as they have ignored all of my attempts at getting in contact to borrow review units, so unless they respond to me the only way I can get any of their laptops is if I buy one myself, which isn't something I'm able to justify at the moment just for the review video.
Excellent video, thanks for the detailed explanation as I would have never known their were different models of the 2070 max-q and how slim the difference was between them and the 2060
Your view was terrific and very comprehensive but I'm a little bit disappointed that you didn't touch on or graph any temperatures from the two graphics cards. One of the primary purposes of the max-q is to be Max quiet, and run at lower clock speeds in order to generate less heat and noise. that's the key differentiator between the two graphics cards and you didn't seem to graph or even calculate that. Next time I highly recommend capturing the sound in decibels of the computers, as well as the temperatures
Great review. Though I wonder about how the laptops compare in their productivity suites (i.e. Adobe render times) as these are capable of light productivity. Some people may be looking for a productivity laptop.

Hey Jarrod, had a question for you, since you test and benchmark some many systems and configs, how do you manage your games? I mean do you install all of them again and again in different systems, or do you use the same SSD drive with all your games installed on a separate drive and use the same one in all your tests? Any input appreciated brother. And your contents are a GEM. No one else is doing it and it has been more helpful to the community than you probably realize. Please keep going.
Thanks! I store about 1TB of games on my NAS, when I get a new laptop in I just copy the whole folder to the laptop, then setup Steam/Origin/Uplay/Epic/Battle Net to point to the new directory. If there are big updates, I just delete the game on the NAS and copy the updated version, it's not perfect but works ok for me. The only problem is many laptops I get just have a single 512GB M.2 SSD lol, so I can only copy a few games over at a time, have to test, then delete and copy some others which is a bit annoying.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks for your reply. That's another awesome reason to sub to you, your replies are as helpful as you videos mate. Now waiting for Asus to release their 1660ti laptop lineup to release in India. Although I did see your review of the 2019 predator, I'm waiting for the Asus 1660ti ones. Awesome helpful work! Keep it up!!!
@@mhan6601 Like Asus Rog scar2 Gl504gw or Zephyrus GX502gw. These are full size 2070, not 2070 max-q. If you are looking for light products like Gigabyte Aero or MSI GS stealth, they are all 2070 max-q version gpu. Actually, I'm waiting for GX502gw because it's light but not 2070 max-q.
Yeah if thin is important most options are Max-Q only, so depends what your priorities are there I suppose, if you want thin/portable you'd have to go 2070 Max-Q or 2080 Max-Q, if you really need a little more than what the 2060 can offer.
I'm pretty sure that these came Reverse Shunt Modded from the factory. I have one of these maxq GPUs (and i've seen mobo pics of others) and they have a 10 milliohm shunt resistor (R010) soldered to it. With all the talk about shunt modding lately, it's known that Nvidia uses a 5 milliohm (R005). These laptops would do really well with this mod.

my daughter choose the RTX 2060 75DE model. Regarding Video Editing and rendering the RTX 2060 just a notch better than GTX 1660ti after watching many youtube videos. As you stated having the RTX 2070 Max-Q is geared more toward Ray Tracing … but currently very little use in the market for Ray Tracing and not needed for at least another 5 years or better. Thanks Jarrod for your Video Review.
No problem at all, thanks for watching! Yeah I've found very little gain with Adobe Premiere once you go above the GTX 1660 Ti - at least with the videos I create here on the channel as I use one of my own videos to do the testing.
For people saying the performance difference between the 2060 and 2070 max q is significant enough for a purchase. Don't forget the G sync property in 2070 max q is a bomb
Exelent video, thanks a lot! One thing: if someone planning to get external 2k monitor for permanent use, better take 2070 as it will perform even more better on higher resolution.
Yes it may help better, by how much though I cannot say. An external monitor will also perform better than using the laptop screen too, as it bypasses Optimus.
Hi is there a reason why someone would get a Max Q instead of the full power GPU? I mean these are going to be plugged in anyways when gaming so why would someone want a gimped laptop and paying way more? 😒
Your channel seems very gaming based, I like that, BUT I would highly recommend doing videos on notebooks and workstations as well. Keep up the good work!

Another great video! Looking forward to your Razer Blade vs Zephryus GX701 comparison! I'm really torn between the two. Smaller chassis with standard keyboard, better battery but worse thermals? Or best gaming/cooling performance with larger footprint (especially considering you need someplace to rest your wrists) but essentially only a few hours of battery to work on documents/browse the net....Decisions!
Nice video format but this would be much better if the laptops were the same models. Could you please do the apex 15x 2060 vs 2070 and i7-8750h vs the 9750h? Thanks!
It sure would be nice, unfortunately I can't just get what I want so have to work with the machines that I'm able to test. I'm working on getting an 8750H / 9750H laptop that are in the same chassis so I can do a better comparison, but it means I have to wait longer for everything to line up.
I've been trying to get it for weeks. Lenovo keep delaying, it's not my fault. First they told me they needed all their units for an esports event in Sydney (IEM), then after that they're now telling me they won't have one for me until the end of May. I'll be going to Computex at the end of the month so even if they do have it available I'll have to wait even longer until I get back, however I fully expect them to push it back once again.
Discarding a set of data points for an specific fair reason is not cherry picking, as long as you apply the right statistics and probability knowledge, those data points left out are called "outliers" something to watch out next time.
1660 ti is really good. Alot of people bash on the RTX but it (based on Y740) comes with GSync, 8gb memory, features for future proofing like DLSS 2.0. Surely RayTracing and DLSS may not be ready now but seems promising and I am patient.
Thanks to ur videos now I know the type of laptop I need which is Acer Helios 300 2060 which is around 1. 25 lakh in India but still it will be worth. I hope u can tell how to insert extra ram and other things for Helios 300 2019 model. Btw can u tell the difference btw ryzen and Intel and which is better in long run ??
Thanks for your analysis, Jarrod, but your laptop brands are sometimes weird: Metabox (Clevo) P970EF ? Aftershock (Tongfang) Apex-15x ? With so little info on them on the web, your benchmark loses some pertinence.
I don't understand what you're saying. They're relevant for fellow Australians looking at buying those specific models, or also for anyone else buying the same resold OEM chassis from another supplier somewhere else in the world. Would you prefer I not cover them at all? What's the goal here?
@@JarrodsTech No, they're interesting benchmarks anyway but they would be much more pertinent with mainstream gaming brands like Asus, Acer, Msi, Alienware... People don't know what are the OEM chassis and it's not even indicated on the product they buy. They're interested in comparing main brands because according to the hardware layout, the performances can be really different with thermal and power throttling. Thanks
Thanks! I was told they'll be sent out to me on the week starting the 20th, so yeah maybe there is some Nvidia embargo? Not sure. Either way I have 1650, 1660 Ti and 2060 models coming so I can compare them all. They should be in the same laptop model too, so in theory I can also accurately compare thermals + battery life. I'm going to Computex for a week on the 25th though, so might be a little bit til I can get the work done.
Man ur videos are always on point.... Btw what about 2080 max-q or is it the same story as 2070 max-q? And are u going to test the aero 15 with 9750h as it has a 240 Hz screen?
I want to do some comparisons with the 2080 max-q, I just need some more machines to test with to get better averages, I think I've done 3 90w ones and 1 80w one, and have a second 80w one here yet to test. Haven't really looked at the data otherwise, but I don't think there's too big of a difference. Not sure about the Aero, hopefully they send it over, they sent me the Aorus 15 with 2070/9750H/240Hz screen first.
Jarrod'sTech yea I’d like to see a 90w 2080maxq with an undervolt or repaste. I want the see the full potential of these GPUs with no thermal throttle lol
if you have integrated graphics the power consumption and battery life doesn't really matter , you're gonna be plugged in anyway if you plan to play demanding stuff, otherwise integrated graphics works just fine if you need the battery life , the only reason the get a MQ version is less noise and thinner laptop
Metro exodus was tested at extreme or ultra settings? I'm just approaching pc gaming and I don't a lot about settings. You could write "maxed out" instead of ultra if a game is at max settings. Also, can you do asus zephyrus m vs msi gs65 2019? Keep it up, you're very underrated.
I used the ultra setting preset, there are higher settings than that so I didn't write maxed out and just generally prefer specifying exactly what was used to avoid confusion. I wish I could do that, but the Zephyrus M isn't sold in my country so ASUS won't send it to me :( thanks!

What about the unlocked 115W RTX 2060 vs 2070 Max q? Because prices are worlds apart right now
Thanks for this video, I almost wasted my money buying a 2070 max q laptop thinking it was gonna be significantly better than the 2060

Good video. Would like to see similar comparisons for video editing, creative purposes, etc if possible.
Ahhh been waitinf for this review thank you so much and love your video as always
No problem!
Perfectly analyzed. Thanks Jarrod :)

Would u make a review for the hp omen 15t with the rtx 2070 max q version i can not find any review for this laptop
U r one of the best reviewer out there i really need ur opinion
Thanks! Unfortunately I can't cover any HP stuff at the moment as they have ignored all of my attempts at getting in contact to borrow review units, so unless they respond to me the only way I can get any of their laptops is if I buy one myself, which isn't something I'm able to justify at the moment just for the review video.

Great vid Jarrod. Thanks for uploading this.

Excellent video, thanks for the detailed explanation as I would have never known their were different models of the 2070 max-q and how slim the difference was between them and the 2060
Thanks! No problem at all 👍
Your view was terrific and very comprehensive but I'm a little bit disappointed that you didn't touch on or graph any temperatures from the two graphics cards.

The new Aorus 15 1660 ti is already available, you should review 😎😎.
Nice comparison, I think I'd go for the 2060
Thanks! They sent me the Aorus 15 with 2070 and 9750H already, I'll have 4 videos on it coming, got plans for a different 1660 Ti laptop though along with a comparison like this once I have enough data 👍
The 1660ti is basically a 2060 without RTX. Good value if you don't care about ray-tracing...in my opinion, it won't be relevant for a while.
I thought you were using a NAS because some of these thin systems don't have a SSD slot. I store all of mine on a secondary 2TB Intel 660p nvme drive and run the OS through 1TB 960 Evo on a Alienware Area 51M.
I can't wait to see your review of the AW Area 51m by the way, hopefully you'll get your hands on one soon. I would've borrowed it to you but sadly there's a whole continent and two gigantic oceans between us.

You’re definitely correct.. the huge price difference between the RTX 2070 max Q vs RTX 2060 is about $300 on average.. with almost no difference in performance... I got my Alienware M17 R2 with the RTX 2060 and saved $300... with your review and comparisons... I really felt good to have made this decision.. anyway after 2 yrs.. that’s time I’ll upgrade the entire machine.. thanks for the video.. new subscriber here👍🏻

Are other components same? Like Storage, RAM, Display. If so go for 2070 max q and overclock the heck out of it.

I seems 2070 max-q is not worthy...
If you want some amazing performance, 2070 is better choice.
what small form factor laptops out there that is normal 2070 though? Seems a lot of the 15 inch is going with the max Q, for 2070 and 2080.
@@mhan6601 Oh, I see. Small form factor laptops! It may be GX502gw that starts to sell next month.
Seems like max q for rtx is really not worth it. Cost too much for what you get.
Yeah, unless you really need that little extra while still maintaining a thin machine 🤔
amazing review specially when you compared the price and the value .....great job
Damn! Considering the 2070 max-q is an expensive upgrade it's looking like a terrible value. Definitely thank you for doing a comparison like this.

my daughter choose the RTX 2060 75DE model.

Please do a video on lenovo y740 15" for 2060 vs 2070 max Q. Why is no one making any videos on such an amazing gaming laptop?
I've been trying to get it for weeks. Lenovo keep delaying, it's not my fault. First they told me they needed all their units for an esports event in Sydney (IEM), then after that they're now telling me they won't have one for me until the end of May. I'll be going to Computex at the end of the month so even if they do have it available I'll have to wait even longer until I get back, however I fully expect them to push it back once again.
Great comparison video, hopefully you can come out another video comparing 1660ti with 2060
Thanks! That will happen, I'll be getting a 1650/1660 Ti laptop some time after the 20th.
Discarding a set of data points for an specific fair reason is not cherry picking, as long as you apply the right statistics and probability knowledge, those data points left out are called "outliers" something to watch out next time.
Not sure which part you're referring to exactly, can't recall the entire contents of this older video at this point.
Hi bro. Im using the predator helios 300 with core i5-10300h paired with rtx 2070 max q. is a 27" 1440p monitor worth buying? thanks
1660 ti is really good. Alot of people bash on the RTX but it (based on Y740) comes with GSync, 8gb memory, features for future proofing like DLSS 2.0. Surely RayTracing and DLSS may not be ready now but seems promising and I am patient.
Indeed, 1660 Ti is a good sweet spot for the money.

Just to be fair that one shouldn't be max-q so it'll give more performance than what I'm showing in this video.
Thanks

Either way I have 1650, 1660 Ti and 2060 models coming so I can compare them all. They should be in the same laptop model too, so in theory I can also accurately compare thermals + battery life.

Honestly not sure, I'd need it paired with a desktop CPU to compare with a proper PC, not sure if I'll be able to get it to test yet.
Raising the watts isn’t the problem. It’s the temperature. There’s a reason laptops are laptop size. There has to be sacrifices
Very nice video, bro. Helpful indeed. It really seems that the 2060 does the job pretty well and unless money isnt a problem, the 2060 is a better option.
