Those results for the 115w 2060 seem a bit low. Since I’ve had several 115 and 110w 2060s to compare. My FS graphics score on a 110w 2060 is 17k. Nothing you did wrong at all either! I just wanted to point out how testing at our best can still yield different results and that tends to be the case with our communities as well.
I think FS is becoming a bit irrelevant as a benchmark since it’s based on DX11, and most games coming out no longer offer that API in favour of DX12 and Vulkan. It’s better to compare Time Spy numbers and they seem more indicative of the FPS differences in the games too.
I'll do it for the desktop comparison, but I don't think using one game with gen 1 hardware is going to be that useful or show a meaningful difference over what we saw here
Wow, a 115W 2060 gets 86 fps on Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 1080p/Highest and my little G14 gets 79-80. That's ~75% more watts for 7-8% more FPS. I didn't expect linear power to FPS scaling, but that.... is a bit lopsided lol. Not to mention the G14 hard caps the consumption to 65W and thermal throttles at 70* on the GPU....

Jarrod, you could also test those laptops with a lower CPU, like the 3100 to check how much of a difference the desktop CPU actually makes on gaming with the 2070 115W
2070 seems worth it to me. If I'm paying 20% more for 20% more graphical performance, that's alright. Normally as you go up, the price to performance sinks, so that's not bad at all. Buy as much as your budget allows in this case.

I find the price/performance comparison a bit problematic. When comparing desktop GPUs, one always looks at the price difference between the GPUs, not the complete builds. For instance, when buying 5700 instead of 1660 Ti, it's around 30% premium for a 30% performance uplift or so. But when you factor in the build, it totally skews the picture: for a $1K PC build, the difference would be around 8 % for 30 % performance. Of course, nobody tells you GPU prices for laptops, so one has to look at the absolute price differences instead. Do you think it's a legit point of concern?

i didn't tried it out just one thing. A benchmark site says that odyssey run around 35 fps on my laptop with 1080p max settings. My laptop is a 1050ti with 16gb ram and an i5 8300h. I know it won't happening,on max settings i will have around 24-25 without scripted scenes BUT with that laptop what has one of the best gpu on the market(in laptop category) and that strong other specs it should run it a LOT BETTER then just 40 fps more. Am I right or missing something?

Hi Jarrod, do will you compare ge66 and mech 15 G3 in the future? I'm waiting for your review before purchasing!
Probably not unless a lot of people ask for it, comparisons take multiple days to make and I have limited time outside of the reviews to do any unfortunately
@@JarrodsTech Ok, it's fair. And do you will review the msi ge66 or not at all?
Yes, first videos next week.
At 2:53 the markings for maximum and minimum are wrong. They need to be swapped. Btw, love your channel Jarrod.
What are you talking about? Nothing needs to be swapped.
XMG or Eluktronics is the only company that pushes their GPUs into full potential so expect all other laptops to perform equal to 2060 or some time below 😓
Great video like always will help in my decision a lot
Happy to help!
thats exactly what i need, thanks. same model im struggling
Best buy had a hiccup where they sold me a underspecced pc. Exchanged it at exact value today for this: AWm15-7302WHT-PUS cant wait for it to arrive. Had the same thing with a 2060 before idk how it rang up at the same dollar lol
Guys help me, rtx 2070 115w or 3060 85/90w ? Who is the best choice for you
Hey jarros, cojke you please do a guide to Throttlestop the helios 300, 2060? We do trust that you are going to give the best settings for overcloking. Greetings from Brasil
Check out the video on my channel. I've explained how to undervolt CPU and undervolt and overclock GPU.
Which gaming notebook with a RTX 2070 is the most quiet one - I know they are all loud in one way or another but which one is the best 15" and best 17"? Thank you!
How did you get a 3700x in a laptop???
Nice comparison, was lucky enough to get 115watt rtx 2060, looks like difference is higher when I expected as HU got around 7 percebt only difference on their games testing, 14 percent make sense anyway as 2070 has more cores much more memory bandwidth, though happy with my purchase as 2070 cost around 250 dollars more, though if you have rtx 2060 90watt or 80watt , it is really not great option and better stick with gtx 1660ti
should we wait for 3000 series or go for the 20 series ?
i am so glad you did this video :)
:)
Ik this may be too much to ask but could you give us a run down on the differences in performance between an 80w rtx 2060 mobile vs rtx 2070 90w and 115w? Great vid btw! As always 👍🏼
IMO its not worth it going over a 60 series in a laptop. The price jump isn't worth the performance. Especially the 2080.
Jarrod i wanna buy a laptop around a 1400$ to play some games and some multitasking... Can you recommend me some i was thinking of g14 and is gtx 1660ti maxq good enough?
It will do fine but it depends how much you want to prioritise the smaller form factor as you can spend less for a better screen and more GPU power in a slightly larger 15 inch machine.
I need to see some reviews of the Asus Rog SCAR 17 with the 2070 super and 2080 super... I need to know just how far I'll be able to push the thing when I eventually get one, or if I should wait yet another year before diving into the big boy laptops. Mine with a 970m is on the verge of dying... I mean it has to be. It's almost 6 years old.
TLDR. 970M about to die. Need to see the new Asus and if it is worth time.
So you just assume it's dying then?
@@killerra It's showing age. Artifacts and massive decrease in fps on games I've been playing for years.
Which is better laptop for architects/gaming.
i7 rtx 2060 or i5 rtx 2070? Thankyou for helping me. I be torn between it
Hey Jarrod. I was looking to buy a gaming laptop for a while and was wondering if you could help me a bit. I was looking into buying a ASUS ROG Strix G15 15.6" Gaming Laptop (Intel Core i7-10750H/512GB SSD/16GB RAM/GeForce GTX 1650 Ti) for CAD $1400 or 1481 Australian dollars. I’m really into the RGB lighting and I think it would be a better option than a upgraded Acer nitro 5. Great video btw ^_^
just comes to show that ADOBE is more CPU heavy than RESOLVE. Seeing that im a resolve editor, I would benefit from the 2070. But now that the next gen GPUs are right around the corner, I think I'll wait
I've got a video showing mobile rtx 2060 overclocking faster than the 2070 and 3070 laptop... Better Open CL scores. Any idea why theres so much performance left on the table with he unlocked 2060 mobile?
In my country msi gl65, 2070 priced the same as 2060, but with lower gamut lcd 65%srgb. Which better?
2070 and use external display if it's not good enough? Lol
Horizon zero dawn to be added in the future benchmark please. It's quite demanding game
Badly optimized should wait til future updates fix until then it's not the best benchmark
No, that game runs smoothly with low settings on my core i5 3rd gen, 2gb vram amd 8700m laptop, that I installed 1ssd plus 12gb ram in it. I can play new star wars.. And even assassin's creed odyssey on it.. These games are highly optimized these days..
Can you please make a comparison video of similarly spec-ed MSI laptops of various types, i.e., Leopard vs Stealth vs Raider vs Titan vs et cetera?
Hello Jarrod, when are you going to review new 10th Generation Dell G7 15 and 17 (2020)?
i didn't tried it out just one thing.
Play on high instead of ultra
Great Video! I was waiting for this comparison. The power brick that these laptops have are 230w or 280 w?
230w
I love u I waited for this for so long
Okay I am looking at ether getting the THICC-15 or the RP-15 for a gaming/school laptop. Im going to mostly have plugged in power and I am feeling like just having the thicc-15 would be a better value since I get the better gpu and a 3600 can do what I need it to do most of the time. What do you guys think? Thicc-15 or RP-15?
