i think all of the people saying brian's voice and skills on guitar are the only reason this band works don't understand how incredible michael is at writing music... like don't get me wrong, brian sounds unreal in this and he's one of the best guitar players of this generation, but michael brings a much needed experimental edge to this band's sound. all i'm saying is they're both unbelievably talented and i wish people would stop comparing them.
First time I've ever heard this band. Great energy. People who insist on drawing the comparisons you dislike so much, are missing out on understanding the true beauty and excitement of hearing a group getting swept along in the flow of music. I'm just as guilty myself sometimes, - there I was thinking oh my what a bass player 😁
I can't get over the amount of talent in this band. The voices, the songs, the harmonies, the instruments, how tight they are .... the best band you've never heard of!
These guys are so musically talented, they know how to use their influences properly and still write original material, and goddamn Brian knows how to play his guitar. The other guys know when to put in fills too. I just love that they got a hell of a future ahead of them
This is one of the greatest breathes of fresh musical air I've breathed in a long time... How simply splendid these works of art are..... discovering the lemon twigs in this video is one of the best experiences I've had in a good while :)
Saw them in Paris 2 months ago. I've done a lot of concerts but this one was truly magical. Feels just like seeing a band at the top of their career. The songs are so inspired on Go To School, and they add a lot of punk/rock 'n' roll vibe into their performances and it's KILLER.
When the Lemon Twigs released their song Small Victories in 2018 it was at a bad time in my life. I had to struggle to get out of bed everyday. The song Small Victories gave me a feeling of hope.
Imagine being a backing band where your only job is to perform songs well and you not only do that, but more than excel at that, tight as hell, pushing the brothers to play even better....and the only comments are "I want the other members back" or "I hate the way the new members look". Must be a bit disheartening to see if they those comments.
And yet people are allowed to feel the way that they feel, which may be disheartened about missing the band members they had developed an emotional connection with. And those aren't the only comments
So the current members are better than the previous ones, like Danny & Megan? Who cares if the new members had better skill. Its about the soul that Danny & Megan gives to The Lemon Twigs music. The Beatles didn't need Billy Sheehan & Jordan Rudess to improve their quality. I'm fine with the new members though I still hope D' Addario brothers back with Danny and Megan.
Man this band is underrated asf, I remember I went to go and see the Arctic Monkeys back in 2018 and these guys were the supporting band, first time I’d ever heard them but I loved their music from the start. So much talent, sound even better when they play live imo.
Found this band with everything harmony. Go to School is now one of my favourite albums. These guys deserve a much bigger audience, but I’m happy to be in on the secret!
Just discovered the Lemon Twigs last night on 'Later with Jools Holland' - what a promising band - all solid musicians with road hardened live tightness. A hybrid of sub-culture influences diced chopped up and served as an entirely original dish - I'm fully inspired to get on my drums and fudge through a play-along to this :).
When I first heard "I wanna prove to you" by them, it was a similar experience to when I saw the Tattua-video by Kula Shaker: "Finally my days of waiting amongst the trash of bleeps and loud bass loops of dance music are over, there are still musicians harking back to the sixties and wanting to prove they can use their musical instruments!". And along with Kula Shaker, there are only 5 other bands that I hold a likewise admiration for: The Beatles, Skyclad, The Byrds, The Who and now the Lemon Twigs.
These guys are really incredible. Part of the great surging wave of new rock bands that respect the past and clearly hve benn listening to all the best records from the past 50 years while at the same time have been wooodshedding and practicing their asses off and pushing each other (amazing to have these two taleented artists living undr one roof) to greater and greater achievement. It is obvious from watching the videos that they absolutely LOVE playing music and that they are immersed in every aspect of their artistry and performance. KUDOS! Long live The Lemon Twigs!!
This music is exactly like 1970's music from many an unknown band. Saw some Surf movies with music like this recently. I was in a band like this in Santa Barbara California. Its refreshing musicians playing and singing really well and with a purpose. These guys have really good vocals too. Keep it coming..... Lemon Twigs....... Hopefully live music will be coming back sooner than later.
So many influences here. First song sounds like a Jim Steinman composition (Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell). Second song reminds me of Seals and Croft ("we will never pass this way again type of sound), then slips into 4:43 The Doors. Then at around 7:12 slipping into Allman Brothers but pushed heavy and intense. Other influences I hear are Thin Lizzy, Bruce Springsteen and Bowie. They are amazing to hear live. In the age where the producer is king of pop it's great to see young musicians pushing traditional sounds.
Saw them live about a couple months ago, been a fan for a while. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH and they are super underrated. Hope they release new music soon. Small victories >>>>
Michael and Brian are The Lemon Twigs...no doubts about it They both bring such a familiar and unique sound. I don't know any other artists who truly exemplifies the true sound of the 60s-80s era so perfectly. My fav band hands down!
Shout out to Todd R. at 15:18. His contribution to the album brought me to this genius band. Thank you for the intro, Todd. P.S. Can’t say enough about how cool it is that The Twigs got the memo to match the colors of the set.
Todd Rundgren and Jody Stephens on the album? My respect for this band grows daily. Also, props out to Kevin Suggs, Audio Engineer on this performance.
I kind of miss the old lineup. I mean it makes sense having them both play guitar/sing but I miss having Brian and Michael switch between guitar and drums depending on who wrote the song
Michael seems extremely blasé... I feel embarrassed for him. I guess he's in the middle of an existential crisis and he's too high to think about it. Poor kid.
@@nancyscott1891 you might think being boff kilter is rude but it's why I love Michael more than ever. You could say he's being purposely subversive and he may be doing that but no matter what he's doing whatever the fuck he wants he's NOT being rude and whether you think he is or not that's rocknroll and he's a bright beautiful blinding light in this bleak bleak world
The Lemon Twigs are one of best new music groups from the last few years. They play their music from the heart. They are no Beatles or Rolling Stones when it comes to fame and popularity but the Lemon Twigs are just as good musically 🎶.

@@uberbeast113 you are so right
Brain is more ballad, Michael is more rock-'n'-roll
I think Michael is a natural front man, a performer, more so than Brian. Brian could write a whole musical and Michael could perform it all.
I agree totaly !
Brian's on fire at 7:30 🔥🔥 one of the best Brian's solos/performance I've ever seen.
We need this in music, we need solos to come back
For real he just went mental and it sounded amazing.
Absolutely!!
What a solo
hippiecheezburger you know solo’s still exist in a shit ton of genres. You just don’t know those bands. (Oh Sees, FIDLAR, Together PANGEA, etc.)
this band won't let me sleep tonight. Just found them and i can't waste time anymore, like wtf have i been? wow
Tiny Elon Musk on drums is killing it
00:31 & 17:55

I've watched this video so many times just for the live Small Victories performance. One of the best solos I've ever heard.
23:12 the reprise of the main theme at he end of the guitar solos is something special
perfect songwriting
I'm 50 and just discovered this kids today as Google Play Music suggest their new album just released. The best new thing in many many years.
This drummer is one of the best live drummers i've seen in any KEXP live set before
Nick from Babtists is the best drummer in KEXP live set history

Legendary performance. Capturing an underrated band in peak form.
DUDE, they are so amazing live wtf. Makes me which for a live album!!!!! They have such unbelievably awesome voices!

I live for Brian’s ‘Small Victories’ solo
Best motherfuckin solo of 2019
Lene Eusebio I can agree with that. Or jake kiszka’s edge of darkness live solo
I live for the whole bass line in small victories
Jalen Seravat Jake’ solo is great, but very repetitive
best solo 2k19 fo sure
If someone ever asks me why Brian D’Addario is my favourite guitarist, I’ll have to show them this video
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR SOOOO LONGGG
Drummer is tight asf
FUUUUUCKK YEAAAAAH IM SO LIIIIITTTT AAAAAA DAOOMMMM
Reminds me of Keith Moon a bit... a bit
Elons got the groove
This performance only enhances my appreciation for the material they’ve been putting out. One of their tightest performances I’ve seen 👏👏👏
Holy shit. Best version of small victories I’ve heard them play.
Saw this guys first here about two years ago. And saw them in Atlanta live last year. they blew me away. Such a talented cats.
Found this band with everything harmony. Go to School is now one of my favourite albums. These guys deserve a much bigger audience, but I’m happy to be in on the secret!
Go To School is amaizing and so is this performance.
P.S Always such a good audio mix, I'm almost upset that not all of my favourite bands go on KEXP.

Gotta be the most slept on KEXP set. The sheer power!.... and those guitars sound so nasty ...dang😮
Wow. Love that story behind the album.

Brian on FIRE

as a big fan, i remember being cautious of the new lineup but if you dont think this guy isnt a killer bassist ur insane
if you mean the bassist looks like a murderer then yes.
the bass player is unbelievable.those backing vocals too
