***** About Venison for Dinner *****
Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stick around!
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

😂Fantastic and natural footage of your family making face cream! I TRIED IT.. LOVE IT! ❤️
Glad you liked it!!
I am from Meghalaya India(Shillong)my great great grand parents used this for their face moisturizer and healing their crack heal,I am 60 yrs old and aregular user of this especially in winter, it's really work wonders, and we do add glycerine and baby powder to give the fragnance.
It's lovely to hear from whose GREAT GREAT grandparents used this!!! Amazing.
Is good for pigmentation
@@lateefaqsa7601 Can it help reduce it cure vitiligo?
I love how real your videos are. I can't wait to make this.
Glad you like them!
How do you make it? Do I just buy a beef kidney? Cook it with somecwater, salt, for like 2ohrs?
That bbq hack is genius!!
They putting it on their face they gonna be babies forever❤
Have been watching your channel. I love your videos. I thought Rowan was so cute when she tasted the tallow, tried to untaste it, and then smiled into the camera. Your children are adorable. Love your recipes also. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for
Joining us here!!
Your little girl is so funny and cute! She totally embraces the essence of beign curious, she´s gonna like science when she grows up
What a great idea putting it in the bbq! (It reminds me of people storing baked goods in the microwave.)
Turned out so creamy! I loved Freya and Rowan putting it on their faces.
I thought I was the only one who stored baked goods in the microwave 🤣🤣
You know we live in cold climate when we use bbq for extended fridge/freezer location !! 💞💞
Totally!
Great video, but you need a humidifier in that house. It’s not just about your skin being dry, it’s about keeping enough humidity in the nasal passages and lungs, throat, etc. I sing for a living, I have a whole house humidifier in the middle of my living room, and it works very well.
We have one! I just have genetically dry skin...
@@VenisonforDinner actually, there is no such thing as genetically dry skin. What you’re talking about is actually essential fatty acid deficiency.
Also, I figured you did not have a humidifier in the house because you told us that the humidity was something like 20%. I play music full-time for a living, around 200 shows a year for the past 25 years, and I have a lot of guitars out. I keep the humidity in my place anywhere between 50% and 54%, according to the recommendations of the acoustic guitar manufactures.
Looks divine! I love watching your children! I miss my kids being little!
You are so kind
How long can you store this? And should this be stored in the fridge or at room temperature? Thank you so much for this lovely video. A special thanks to your kids for making this even more fun!
Stores well for a least a year. If you made a large batch you could keep the extras in the fridge.
Can I use only beef tallow without adding anything else?
I cracked up seeing Rowan dip her finger in and licking it 🤣🤣😂🤣 she did it again with the beaters!!!!!!! Thank you for the video
Glad you enjoyed it
I was actually concerned because of the essential oils in it. Which ones did you use and are they safe for kids?
The kiddos nailed It! Cool recipe thanks for sharing.
Our pleasure!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I’d like to use this for my toddlers face (4-6 year olds). Is there an EO you’d recommend to stay away from or use for face. My son has nosebleeds and moisturizing his nostrils helps a lot especially in the winter.
I would stay away from citrus as it can cause photosensitivity.
You could get beef fat from a butcher, render yourself (I have a YT video on that) and make a salve for your son. Or look up Toups and Co online. They have great organic products for your skin.
How long does it last? Do you store it in the fridge? Thanks!
On the counter and...long time!
How cute is that little girl.
You smallest child reminds me soooo much of my 3 year old boy 😆 AGHHH
Any way to still make the cream without using any oil(s)? I avoid them like the plague...
Jeepers I think that would make them too heavy without the oils. But I’ve never tried it myself.
Your daughter makes me laugh . She reminds me of my son when he was smaller. I'll have to try using tallow in my whipped body butter , usually I use coconut oil.
Great! Thank you.
How do you store it?
How long will it last ?
❤
If you keep it in a dry dark place it will last for years
How would this work with deer tallow? I'm afraid it would be too thick, but that's what I've got!
Good job mom!
Thank you!!
Great video and info thanks! I’m really enjoying your channel. Just found you a month or so back. Did you say you the recipe had olive oil too? I plan to make this after we harvest our steer! Thanks!
Yes the recipe is linked, you can use olive oil or another fat.
Could you whip straight tallow without the olive oil?
Sorry I’ve never tried so I wouldn’t know what to expect.
@@VenisonforDinner I actually did and it turned out LOVELY!
Rowan cracks me up so much!! 😂 I am going to call one of our local meat markets to see if I can buy kidney fat and give this a try.
Rowan cracks me up too. I hope you can buy kidney fat. Seems that some people have a hard time finding it.
QUESTION ?? So could you also buy grocery store 💯 lard and add a few drops of scented oil of choice and mix in and store it in glass jar and get same benefits ? Lazy lotion 😂😂
Such a good question that I can't figure out how to answer! I'd say no due to the processing of grocery store lard BUT I've never tried it.
I had kept the leaf fat from a beef cow once….it sat in my freezer for several years. I never did get it rendered….🤪
Hahahaha we all have things like that in our freezers!
Is this better than shea butter?
I’m not sure if it’s better but we have the tallow from our cow and it works for us. I’m sure it’s as good as shea butter.
@Venison for Dinner Cool! Thanks!
Can this be done with store bought beef tallow?
Yes it can be made with any beef fat.
This turned out so nice but got moldy after about a month. Maybe it needs to be kept in the fridge? But then it’s not as smooth going on…
My thoughts are that you accidentally introduced water somewhere. Or the tallow wasn't rendered well.
really love your kids😘😘😘
Thank you so much 😊
So I just buy a beef kidney? And boil it for like 20hrs? What is the process?
I'm assuming you are referring to the rendering of the beef fat? Here is a link to my blog for making tallow

Blessings 💖
Why cant she eat it? Its great for children. And adults. Very healthy.
Yes, she certainly could but at the rate she was licking off the beater I think it might have given her a tummy ache.
I just made some to use for a hand/teat cream (because I may have just impulse purchased a milk cow on the coldest week of the year😄😋😍). I have an old crock pot I use for waxing my bee frames and I used it to melt the tallow then cooked some rice, skim milk, and pumpkin in the crock pot with the last dregs for the dogs. Then no leftovers going to waste or clogging the drain.
oooo good idea
just need the recipie. This video is so unprofessionel with all the kids screaming and paranting whilst explaining stuff. Sorry , juts need cold facts
Well sorry back…. I’m a parent and this is what we are all about.
