    It blew my mind when I realised that they are maintaining eye contact when listening and pick up the signs from a close periphery.

    For the one who asked whether it was hard to learn voice.... 2 things--- I didn't know people laugh with voice/sounds until my late teens.. ha. One day we had workshop and they had the interlock that they wanted us to try em. I was breathing in& out the interlock and they told me I had to make sounds for it to be successful. I just froze and couldn't do anything I was freaking out in my mind, because it was very intimidating to make sounds in front of the hearing people as I know our deaf voice are very different than most... besides I have no clue how to make certain sounds so, what I'm just gonna make myself looking an idiot and have them laugh at me for something I will never have control over. Oy vey it can be intimidating.. for me, I don't like to use my voice out in the public i.e. When I try to call my dog, my niece for stop running, etc. But that's just me =]
    👍👍 vlog 🤓🤓

    Honestly this is great, as a hearing person that wants to be more in touch with the Deaf community, and learn ASL, try to be an advocate, it’s very cool to hear deaf people pushing for that, otherwise it can seem very intimidating or secluded from the hearing world. Love what you guys are doing!!!!

    I'm a junior in high school and I'm currently taking an ASL class and I love it. As a musician, hearing is a part of my job but when I was in the 10th grade I thought "What if I was deaf? Would I still be a musician?". That thought prompted me to take the ASL class this year. I don't like to exclude ANYONE, so I'm learning ASL so that if I meet a deaf person I can communicate with him/her and so that he/she doesn't feel excluded. I really want to break the barrier between deaf and hearing people as well. AND I even taught my dog DAD in ASL too! You two are such great role models for the Deaf Community! I pray the best for you two!❤️

    I have a question, do you make puns in sign language? ^^ And also can you say if somebody has "an accent" in signing? Like, because of certain mannerism or trend or because they are from other part of the country? Is that a thing or not? And thank you for such enlightening Q&A guys :)

    I learned a lot from this video. I had no idea about the deaf culture so this was very enlightening. I was interested in learning sign language once so a friend of mine bought me an ASL book many years ago. I think I'll try to learn the signs a bit so I can help be an advocate. Thank you for sharing!

  • @TehWit

    Awesome video, thanks a lot guys!
    Aly's insight helped me understand a lot about that family's friend kid that was coming over sometimes when I was young, and who I couldn't understand when he spoke or why he'd refuse to communicate with us... We were simply speaking too fast or not trying hard enough to communicate with him through means he could grasp... That's amazingly simple and yet very sad.. I was a kid but still.
    Also, I'd be super glad to learn sign language but since there are different versions countries to countries and all... It just sux to think you'd need to learn so much to understand a minority. Wish there was only 1 version or several ones with only small variants. This isn't helping the world deaf community, sadly.

    A deaf family pyramid ? I want to know more. I'd love you two to do a whole video on oralism. We need way more Deaf Awareness to stop hearing people from stereotyping our deaf and hard of hearing community. Less ignorance would be nice. Watching from London UK. 👂🇬🇧👍

    I was born legally deaf but had surgery as a child to restore my hearing. I was taught minimal signs as a child but took ASL in college because I desperately wanted to learn. I feel nervous when I sign with people because I am VERY slow and worried I am not correct but I know the only way to learn is to immerse myself in the language and community. can you tell me if it is annoying for you to try and sign with people who are not strong signers or do you feel ok to try and help people learn? Also, if you are somewhere with mostly hearing people who don't sign, do you prefer to try and lip read or would you want someone like me (who does not sign so well) to attempt to sign what others are saying? I never know what is less rude of me to do and I don't like to make assumptions

    It is very sad to me that Aly’s family won’t make any effort to learn ASL for her. I am currently learning sign for a deaf woman who recently came into my life. I love being able to communicate with her! And when she understands my very novice sign, it is the best feeling in the world! Aly, maybe your family will come around but if not, fuck em. Just keep doing you, and thanks for educating people from the hearing community like me!

    new to your channel, are you 100% deaf cheyenna? and also about the implant, would you ever want to get that done? and i think parents get the implant for their kids so they wont struggle as much when trying to talk to people, especially in school or even emergencies, two of my best friends are partially deaf, i know a little sign so far but would like to learn more, a friends sisters baby had the hearing implant and it was cool seeing the video of him hearing for the first time ,would be a whole new world getting use to it, i know for some people it can be extremely loud for them so its hard to get use to

    • @SnackMuay
      @SnackMuay 6 років тому +33

      Hector Cano Parizot it's more of a counter to the implicit "shame" that society attributes to it. Think of gay pride day. It's not as if they're claiming to be better than straight people, but culture has told them that it's something to be ashamed of. A day of pride is necessary to affirm gay peoples' existence as valuable members of society. Likewise there's a stigma surrounding many disabilities and disorders, so it makes sense for there to be some equalizing force of self-pride. After all, it wouldn't be good if people were "told" by culture that there's something wrong with them there existed no movement to celebrate them for their uniqueness. That would probably result in a lot more depressed individuals.

      Lily Bowen Why?

    • @lilybowen5005
      @lilybowen5005 6 років тому +2

      Just because it is a common phrase that many people (deaf in particular) find offensive because it implies they are impaired. Hard of hearing or deaf are the unoffensive terms

    • @n1c3s43
      @n1c3s43 6 років тому +1

      Lily Bowen I mean no offense, but in my understanding of the word impaired being deaf is an imperment :|
      so why would it be offensive?:|

    • @x340x
      @x340x 6 років тому +1

      but they are impaired? i mean in all respect, but thats just how it is. its medical term, not insult

    • @user-neo71665
      @user-neo71665 6 років тому

      I think today way too many people try to find reasons to be offended. Some idiot making fun of you and calling you hearing impaired is clearly different than somebody saying it simply describing somebody that is hard off or can't hear. I can't think of one time in the last 15 years since my hearing has started going I've ever been offended by the term and often use it to describe myself.
