re: Some deaf people speaking, some signing. Like you said, not all deaf people grew up the same way. Not everyone uses sign language, had the opportunity to learn it, and not everyone is fluent. We're not all the same, not a monolith. People should use the language they feel comfortable with because if someone isn't fluent and they use a language they''re not fluent in and something goes wrong with translation, then there's a risk of backlash. I know from personal experience and it's a never ending back and forth battle that leaves everyone in frustration, especially the creator when you're one person going against, for lack of better words, an army of people. So use the language you're most comfortable with, but stick to one language at a time in a video unless you can SimCom it, really. (But, eh, SimCom is weird since you're trying to use 2 different languages at once.) It is odd if someone starts one language and then switches to another completely though, I definitely agree with that. It just increases confusion. One language at a time.
Captions on UA-cam are a rollercoaster. With both deaf and hearing audiences. I've noticed UA-camrs start captioning, get really into it and add it to future videos, and then they stop captioning out of nowhere and don't continue it. Both small and big UA-camrs do this. And I know there are other disabled UA-camrs who talk about accessibility but don't make their videos accessible to others so it's kind of like... hm? I need to get back to sending out emails and letters asking UA-camrs to caption their stuff. It's definitely been a while. And, of course, I'm going to keep captioning 'cos if I'm gonna talk about needing captions, why wouldn't I provide them too? Makes no sense to me if I didn't.
But yeah, I know you said you weren't, but I'll just say it anyway- definitely don't quit UA-cam! Like it's been established, deaf people are not a monolith. We need all the various stories being told. Keep telling yours!

ALSO! CAPTION TIP! When uploading the right English file, make sure to go back in about an hour after everything should be processed and unpublish and completely remove the automatic English file. I didn't realize that sometimes automatic captions would pull up instead of the correct English file. That took me a while to realize, so just a heads up to anybody who captions.

Yes, of course! It's something that we need to change this kind of thing for the community, especially with deaf people. I wish youtube could have listened to their voices and realize that they took their privilege away. it is not fair for deaf people not just them but everyone else who wanted to watch the videos with CC on..

I’m not deaf at all, but I completely agree. I really enjoy watching and reading the captions of deaf youtubers because ASL and the stories everyone has to tell interest me. Every time I see a deaf UA-camr talking without signing always throws me off. I really hope they listen to their audience and change things up so everyone can enjoy it.

Thank you for posting this video! You're personality is so beautiful and lovely. I love these kinds of videos where people are just honest about how they feel, because it can be a sensitive topic. I wish more people captioned their videos accurately, because sometimes I see a good video I want to share with my boyfriend, who's Deaf, but it doesn't have accurate captions... so :P Anyways keep making videos! I can't wait to see more or you!

I always appreciate when you make videos because I know you will be using ASL. I've tried searching for other UA-camrs that do the same but I've noticed the problem you're describing where most don't use CC and/or don't use ASL in all their videos.
So I just want to thank you for putting so much more effort and leading by example!

Since many in the commens and Cheyenna herself seems to search for youtubers who signs in their videos , here are some great youtubers who do that: Rogan Shannon,- deaf youtuber who signs in ASL, OurSignedDeafWorld, Sign Duo ----- and other sign langugaes besides asl but still signing: Jonna Delvert - swedis youtuber who signs in mostly SSL (swedish sign languages ) and sometime in ASL. Her videos is alwasy captioned in both swedish and english. MegaVega (swedish songs interperet to SSL- swedish sign language. If other have tips for deaf youtubers who signs no matter which sign languages as long as they caption (since I am hearing my self and only know limitide SSL, speaks or simcoms I will happy check them out.

Ugh, yeah, 100% I understand your frustration toward deaf UA-camrs who don't sign in their videos, girl. Thank you SO much for taking the time to CC your videos. That must be so time consuming... and half your viewers probably don't even realize they're captioned!

When I first saw your video, you had your best friend with you, teaching sign language. I subscribed it. And I have subscribed many others in ASL. I thought you and your friend were pretty much sharing ASL, I am see more of just you, which is not a problem. I am severely HOH and lipread well and ASL. So I need both (actually three) asl, lip reading and CC. I want to stay touched with many ASL subscribers. So, I say stay as you have been doing.

Yeah it’s unfortunate there’s not many deaf UA-camrs who use ASL. There is one named Crow_Se7en who is a deaf gamer and plays his games using ASL. You both are the only channels I know and follow who use ASL all the time. It always makes me happy because I am completely deaf and use ASL. 💕

Hey, I'm hearing, but I watch a lot of deaf youtubers and I sign pretty well, I've noticed that too with captions, even on like popular channels the auto-captions are terrible sometimes... do you know of any ways we can volunteer to make real CC'S ?
