I thought that the internet lead did a very good job. The first guy seemed like he didn't really know what he was doing, I think that's why he explained that in that way, and he was just talking about APR rates influencing the price. But I could be wrong. But they need to get rid of market adjustments or let their sales people do it so you don't get called out for being greedy basically.

One time I went to a Nissan dealer and they took my keys and my registration, did a test drive and just couldn’t make a deal and they “lost” my keys and registration. Took 45min for them to “find” them, only after I said I need to use their phone ( way before cellphones) , he says, you need to call your wife ? I said, no the police. Funny, they found my stuff in less than a minute….😂
@@patrickwade3150 happened to me once when i brought in a leased car to turn it in early to get a new one. They needed the key to go appraise the car, then they came back and kept the keys. I still ended up leaving and asked for my keys they kept stalling but I was persistent and finally they gave up and I left.
Not at all sure why? Both people on the other end of the line were supercool. Employee pretty much said "if you wanna haggle the price, I have to hand this convo off to my boss". Standard practice for any business all over the globe. Plus, manager waived the extra fee, and both were super-efficient and actually gave an OTD pretty quickly. I assumed that was talking about the monthly payment amount which credit score does impact - not sure why he said bank statements other than maybe he doesn't know the process there. Man...I bought a 22 Kia Sorento hybrid and got charged 2.5k markup which was half of what others paid. Didn't want to but I bought in COVID and when the model was nowhere to be found.
$595 Doc Fee??? WTH lol - if they want to sell the car, they need to do the paperwork for it - it's like going to Walmart and having to pay an additional fee for a cashier to check you out
All dealers charge it to everybody. They have to to avoid a lawsuit. If they charge it to some, but not others, they can be sued. BTW- it should be a cost of doing business but I saw a video about doc fees. It's not just the forms. It can be a bit involved. I was shopping for a new car last week in PA. State max on doc fees is $400 I think. But I also shopped VA, NY, and CT. In CT, they said $699, and increasing to 999 in July, no state max. In VA, it was $1199, no state max. NY has $175 state max.

You may pay more in interest if your credit isn't as good as someone else's, but if you're buying a $30k car, the price of the car itself is still $30K. So, while you may pay more in finance charges, you're not paying more for the actual car.
Me and my wife were looking at a used Ford Escape at a DRCJ dealer in Houston. After the test drive, we were waiting for the salesman to tell us the finance deal. He showed me a contract and said that he would tell us the price after we signed the contract. I told him I wouldn't sign it until he gave me a price. We went back and forth, but he wouldn't give in. So I asked for my CDL back and he refused. I was ready to turn his desk upside-down, but my wife started threatening him by calling the police. He gave me my CDL and we left
Had it happen twice to me at a dealership (with keys not license). My response in both cases was: You have 30 seconds to give me back my property or I’m calling cops… as I start a timer on my phone. In one of those situations in the end we end up negotiating a very good deal on my fiancés Gladiator.
Stop threatening to get the police involved. Just do it. If they then continue these practices, it will be on record. They don't want that because it becomes a public record. They have already proven that they don't care about you as a customer, so why should you care about them.
The key is to NEVER go to buy a vehicle when you desperately need one, unless of course you've been in an accident or whatever. But if everybody else just cruising around and deciding to trade vehicles would use their brain instead of their emotions to negotiate, they'd all be better off.
Yup am car shopping and all dealers sent me an otd price including 8-13k of add ons. And they all sound like Andy Elliot selling me a car. Anybody saying come on in so you can see it, smell it, sit in it is a red flag 🚩.
I've used the same salesman for 20 yrs (he's now the manager at the dealer). I've never paid sticker price. In fact a lot less. He gives me his personal employee price (3% over wholesale and he shows me the dealer price invoice +3%). Now that i live in a different state, we do it all over the phone. He finds me the car i want locally, does the Auto Co financing, i send him the money, he sends me the bill of sale and i go to the dealer and get the car. For some reason, the dealer that has the car, gets really irritated when they have to do the title work... FREE. 😂
There is a built in spread on the dealer invoice. You are getting a deal, just not what you think. I work finance at a very popular foreign new car dealership.
I'm not offended at all by this call. Obviously the first employee really didn't know much, but that second one handled things wonderfully. He gave the information that you asked for. He was knowledgeable and even offered you different options and told you about another vehicle that's more expensive that you can get cheaper because of the lease incentives. I would buy from these people if I was in the market
Hey I don't object to the market adjustment cuz there are market forces that apply to every situation, but don't try to gas light me concerning actual market conditions.
In the early eighties, Honda had added a market adjustment to one of their civic station wagons that I was looking at getting. I walked out of the dealership and I've never looked at a Honda sinse.
most items we buy everyday have maket adjustments. everything from groceries to home goods are different prices in different markets. its why when you shop online it often markes you put a zip in
Greico Mazda, Delray Beach, FL tried to jack the price up on me from their website with a used car. 11k on the website, magically turned to 16k when I got there. Flipped the bird and walked out.
The problem is that there are people out there who are okay with being jacked like that. They keep paying the bogus add-ons, so the dealers keep doing this. If everyone would just STOP just taking it, things might improve.
He also forgot to mention that form 4506-T needs to be filled out, retirement account savings and any gift letters. Oh wait, you're financing a vehicle, not a house.........

LEASING SUCKS!!! I just figured out that the special lease deal on a Mazda CX30 was about $12k to "buy" about $8500 in value based on the MSRP, the residual value, the down payment, and the total of the 36 payments. That worked out to an outrageous interest rate like 15%. Remember Leasing is NOT extended rental. You essentially buying the 3 year depreciation.
I'd love to know the history of how that miracle came to be, and how Canada's dealers didn't buy their way out of that pickle with bribes, blackmail, extortion, and such. Oh, sorry, I was talking about Canada and thinking about the US. I'm seriously glad for you folks, though.

Yeah a dealer in Florida tried to up charge me 5000 for a car. Lied to me about how I HAVE to pay them to do the title and taxes. The dealership had a "what you see is what you pay" and "no haggle pricing". I guess that doesn't apply to me only them. After talking to 3 people at the dealership, I decided to walk away for the "deal" they had.
In Australia, we have never heard of a Market Adjustment? It's MSRP set by the manufacturer, that's it! NO room to move usually except maybe a small amount off the Dealer Fee (~ $AU1500). Manufactures like Toyota set the MSRP in stone for all dealers so they do not compete against each other, same price everywhere. On New Cars here, there is not much room to move anymore. Only other fees are a Finance set up fee if you take a loan and of course the rate changes based on your credit score. Usually we don't even advertise MSRP, it's just the "Drive Away Price" where all Registration, Dealer fees and Govt taxes are all included. The haggling comes if you have a trade-in. No one takes your keys for a test drive - here we sign a form or use an App after they take a picture of your licence.
I would never provide bank statements to purchase a car. I understand a couple paystub’s to prove that I have a job and income bank statements are way too much
Of course no one gets my bank statements. I hesitate to give him salary/ employer information. Maybe if I’m arranging financing, I could tell them, not the dealer.
He was obviously new, market adjustments are solely based on the amount of cars with that exact trim, and package. The credit can change the value of your payment based on APR. Not the actual price of the car
That’s why I like Carmax no negotiations!! No add ons. You can find cars from 100 miles on them. Some of the cars have great deals on them if you look.
My car buying experience. My experiences have been good. When I go to a dealership, I go prepared and have done my research. I buy new. If I were to buy used, I would use my mechanic. Research the incentives, the extras, know the general price range, take a pen and pad of paper, and deal directly with the sales manager. Yes, I have used a car buying service as well. In the old days, people would trudge from dealership to dealership and have a horrible experience. Things are different today. Last year, my son, living in Delaware, bought a car located in Florida. When, I had configured a car that I wanted, armed with the information about incentives, and the sales manager knowing that I was qualified and was competing against 5 dealerships had no hesitation in giving his best price.
Dude, no. You're trying to crucify the dealer guys providing sound financial advice. Most people are like you and don't understand that extra interest-rate means extra-money when all said and done.
Probably has more to do with the fact that the dealerships make money selling you financing. Your credit worthiness likely affect how much they make on the financing which in turn affects how much they might be willing to discount the price of the car.
Mine also. One time, years ago, she, with the help of me and the dealer, decided exactly which car to buy. Okay, I told the dealer, you talk to my wife about the price, I’m going across the street for coffee. I got a coffee, read the paper, came back maybe an hour later, signed the papers.
My niece also. Once she saw a car advertised in the paper. She went to the bank and took out that much cash. Took it in and laid it on the table and made him eat the advertised price. They are still driving that car.

Janesville Kia of Wisconsin had a sales manager give me an OTD price by email of 13500 for a vehicle they had. I get into the dealership and they approach me with a different sales manager who started negotiating the OTD price at 16800. I brought up the email they sent me for 13500 and the sales manager gets mad, tells me there's no way he could do that OTD price, and rips up the paperwork. We walked out of there. The same vehicles been there for two weeks and they still haven't sold the vehicle. Such silly shenanigans.
I hate, hate, hate dealing with dealerships. I even worked for one briefly. My advice is to decide on a price before you go to the dealership. If they won't agree to your price, simply leave. They'll stop you before you leave the dealership. A sales manager that gets involved at that point. It's a silly game and a lot of dealerships play it.

yeah.... i tend to avoid talking to people at dealerships. im better now but i used to be really weak minded. I once went in for an oil change and came out with a new car🤣🤣. The car was lovely but there was no real deal on the transaction.
They didn’t say anything wrong…. If you are leasing, then the payment is affected by the credit score. And the salesperson is new. The manager was very professional and knowledgeable
CarEdge needs an investigatory department with undercover shoppers, covert cameras, microphones, etc. Dealerships that treat customers honorably should be lauded. Those who act deceptively, or with usurious fees, should be exposed.

That's after 15 years at the same company... and will be doing the same after another 15 years if I'm still there. In fact, I'd say stay away from bosses that are too lazy to take the extra phone-call.
I’m confused: if I walk in the door with my own pre approved bank loan, why would I need to go through all of this pricing and payment discussion? The problem is 80% of car sales are dealer financed, which is a major problem.
That's why no dealer should ever have a problem giving you an immediate out the door cash price. But they WILL have a problem because that gives them no chance for all of their phony add-ons.
I hate buying a car, but I’m older and have no problem walking out if they try to play games. I refuse to pay doc fees and any of those other silly fees, if you stand your ground they will eat all of that. I go in with my financing already but never tell them that till we agree on a deal.

Always ask what is the price WHEN YOU PAY CASH! Go to your bank and get a lower interest rate. Nobody looks at your bank statements! Credit score is for the interest rate NOT FOR THE PRICE OF THE CAR. Never answer question HOW MUCH CAN YOU AFFORD! They will give you the lower monthly payment but for more years! Lease is easier as it is normally 36 mo.

I hate buying a car. My son just totaled a Corolla and I am looking for a decent used car. Thought I found a good deal and the realized the internet price they showed online was net of a $2K deposit. What the hell, how is that legal? I was really disappointed when I went to Caredge and they showed the price less the down payment as well. I understand dealers are trying to screw Joe average car buyer but I though maybe Caredge would see through this nonsense. I don't fault them, the dealer is at fault, but the delaer posting the price of every used car on their lot at $2K less than reality to reflect a buyer deposit is flat our fruad IMO.

I drove 3 hours roundup only to be dropped with 4K in dealer ‘mandatory’ additions on a used RAV4 prime xse 21 went from 37.1 to 43.6 then ‘waved some of them’ to 41.5. I walked. Dealer acted in bad faith. Had cash for a down payment on hand and reapproved from my credit union. Idk how a place like that stays in business it was a Toyota dealership too in California!
We use to go to the dealers when shopping for a car only to find them stonewalling us, keeping us there for hours. Oh they would serve us coffee, whatever we wanted, even offer to order takeout, you know because it took them two hours to figure up the price of the vehicle. Finally we realized they were just trying to keep us from having time to shop around. Really nasty technique

What really irks me about dealers is the out the door price is usually several thousands of dollars more than that advertised price They should not be allowed to do that. The dealer fees are so bad that if you're buying an inexpensive used car, you could almost double the price that it was advertised at. The dealership has the right to charge whatever they want to, but they need to make it clear and concise they should not be allowed to mislead people. There should be a lot of requiring complete transparency on expensive items like cars. The only thing that should add to the price is the taxes. everything else should be included in the advertise price. Actually, in my opinion, the taxes should be factored into the advertise price too If someone from Out of state is buying the car then that means they get a rebate for the amount of that states taxes because you know they will have to pay taxes to their home state.

I went to a Nissan dealer a month ago to look at a Camaro. The salesman wanted to have my fill out a credit app before even showing me the car!!! I told him no. I came back the next day after they called me to come down. So I did. Drove 20 min just for them to say the car sold yesterday! The day I went to look at it in the first place. So the car was sold and he still wanted me to fill out a credit app. And they wanted to give me 5k less on my trade than what it’s worth!
Whenever I go to a dealership I bend the sales team over their desk and ream them HARD. Knowing state law and franchise requirements goes a heck of a long way when purchasing a vehicle. In GA, for example, it is a violation of GA franchise law to add anything (prep fee, doc fees, vin etching, or anything else) other than tax/tag/title. I've cost one Ford dealership its franchise over that marketing when I called Ford corporate HQ and let them listen to the recorded exchange with the salesman and manager. Ford told me they would reach out to the dealership owner. When I drove by two weeks later the lot was empty and the sign was blank (It's now a Kia dealership, not under the original owners). Know your state laws and auto dealer franchise rules and have fun making the dealership squeal. Be advised, though, some will tell you to leave or even call the police and have you trespassed. I've had that happen, too. Judge was not happy to get that case on their docket, and was not mad at me.
The store should have never let a green pea take a phone up!!! “Internet Manager” was fine. Asked questions and provided an OTD$. I was surprised that they didn’t ask for an appointment. CIAO!!
I have bought several cars from a used car dealer in my town. Not sure if it's still the same because of inflation, but for years he told me that anything I liked he would sell me for $500 more than what he paid for it.
At Hendrick Toyota in Charlotte/Concord NC, they have all these add ins and they say you have to buy them. One of them is Gap Insurance, and they actually say you cannot buy a vehicle without purchasing all the add ins: extended warranty, service agreement, Gap Insurance, etc. they say you cannot buy Gap insurance from your own insurance company. It has to be purchased as part of Toyota’s plan they add to all cars! Ridiculous!

One salesman wanted to hold my car keys until I was ready to leave. This was at a Ford dealership. Yes, I left.

They held my license and wouldn’t return it for about half an hour after I said I was done. I was seething

All dealers charge it to everybody. They have to to avoid a lawsuit. If they charge it to some, but not others, they can be sued.
BTW- it should be a cost of doing business but I saw a video about doc fees. It's not just the forms. It can be a bit involved. I was shopping for a new car last week in PA. State max on doc fees is $400 I think. But I also shopped VA, NY, and CT. In CT, they said $699, and increasing to 999 in July, no state max. In VA, it was $1199, no state max. NY has $175 state max.
I saw an invoiced doc fee for a Lexus suv. $980.

You have 30 seconds to give me back my property or I’m calling cops… as I start a timer on my phone.
In one of those situations in the end we end up negotiating a very good deal on my fiancés Gladiator.
Stop threatening to get the police involved. Just do it. If they then continue these practices, it will be on record. They don't want that because it becomes a public record. They have already proven that they don't care about you as a customer, so why should you care about them.

Anytime the salesmen or anyone else at the dealer ship says something you do not like, walk. Show them who is in charge.
The key is to NEVER go to buy a vehicle when you desperately need one, unless of course you've been in an accident or whatever. But if everybody else just cruising around and deciding to trade vehicles would use their brain instead of their emotions to negotiate, they'd all be better off.

I've used the same salesman for 20 yrs (he's now the manager at the dealer).
I've never paid sticker price. In fact a lot less. He gives me his personal employee price (3% over wholesale and he shows me the dealer price invoice +3%).
Now that i live in a different state, we do it all over the phone. He finds me the car i want locally, does the Auto Co financing, i send him the money, he sends me the bill of sale and i go to the dealer and get the car.
For some reason, the dealer that has the car, gets really irritated when they have to do the title work... FREE. 😂

I'm not offended at all by this call. Obviously the first employee really didn't know much, but that second one handled things wonderfully. He gave the information that you asked for. He was knowledgeable and even offered you different options and told you about another vehicle that's more expensive that you can get cheaper because of the lease incentives. I would buy from these people if I was in the market

Hey I don't object to the market adjustment cuz there are market forces that apply to every situation, but don't try to gas light me concerning actual market conditions.
In the early eighties, Honda had added a market adjustment to one of their civic station wagons that I was looking at getting. I walked out of the dealership and I've never looked at a Honda sinse.

Greico Mazda, Delray Beach, FL tried to jack the price up on me from their website with a used car. 11k on the website, magically turned to 16k when I got there. Flipped the bird and walked out.
Going through the same thing at Arrigo CDJR. Cars listed at 21750 and they tried to get me at 27,500 out the door. Walked out twice

LEASING SUCKS!!! I just figured out that the special lease deal on a Mazda CX30 was about $12k to "buy" about $8500 in value based on the MSRP, the residual value, the down payment, and the total of the 36 payments. That worked out to an outrageous interest rate like 15%.
Remember Leasing is NOT extended rental. You essentially buying the 3 year depreciation.
In Canada it’s illegal to charge more than the advertised price.

Yeah a dealer in Florida tried to up charge me 5000 for a car. Lied to me about how I HAVE to pay them to do the title and taxes. The dealership had a "what you see is what you pay" and "no haggle pricing". I guess that doesn't apply to me only them. After talking to 3 people at the dealership, I decided to walk away for the "deal" they had.

In Australia, we have never heard of a Market Adjustment? It's MSRP set by the manufacturer, that's it! NO room to move usually except maybe a small amount off the Dealer Fee (~ $AU1500). Manufactures like Toyota set the MSRP in stone for all dealers so they do not compete against each other, same price everywhere.
On New Cars here, there is not much room to move anymore. Only other fees are a Finance set up fee if you take a loan and of course the rate changes based on your credit score. Usually we don't even advertise MSRP, it's just the "Drive Away Price" where all Registration, Dealer fees and Govt taxes are all included. The haggling comes if you have a trade-in. No one takes your keys for a test drive - here we sign a form or use an App after they take a picture of your licence.
This is why I have not bought a car from a dealership in eight years. Never again!

He was obviously new, market adjustments are solely based on the amount of cars with that exact trim, and package. The credit can change the value of your payment based on APR. Not the actual price of the car

My car buying experience. My experiences have been good. When I go to a dealership, I go prepared and have done my research. I buy new. If I were to buy used, I would use my mechanic. Research the incentives, the extras, know the general price range, take a pen and pad of paper, and deal directly with the sales manager.
Yes, I have used a car buying service as well. In the old days, people would trudge from dealership to dealership and have a horrible experience. Things are different today. Last year, my son, living in Delaware, bought a car located in Florida.
When, I had configured a car that I wanted, armed with the information about incentives, and the sales manager knowing that I was qualified and was competing against 5 dealerships had no hesitation in giving his best price.

My niece also. Once she saw a car advertised in the paper. She went to the bank and took out that much cash. Took it in and laid it on the table and made him eat the advertised price. They are still driving that car.

Janesville Kia of Wisconsin had a sales manager give me an OTD price by email of 13500 for a vehicle they had. I get into the dealership and they approach me with a different sales manager who started negotiating the OTD price at 16800. I brought up the email they sent me for 13500 and the sales manager gets mad, tells me there's no way he could do that OTD price, and rips up the paperwork. We walked out of there. The same vehicles been there for two weeks and they still haven't sold the vehicle. Such silly shenanigans.

I’m confused: if I walk in the door with my own pre approved bank loan, why would I need to go through all of this pricing and payment discussion? The problem is 80% of car sales are dealer financed, which is a major problem.
That's why no dealer should ever have a problem giving you an immediate out the door cash price. But they WILL have a problem because that gives them no chance for all of their phony add-ons.
We use Wells Fargo, a big bank, and they no longer even do auto loans for customers. And no home equity loans either

I hate buying a car, but I’m older and have no problem walking out if they try to play games. I refuse to pay doc fees and any of those other silly fees, if you stand your ground they will eat all of that. I go in with my financing already but never tell them that till we agree on a deal.

Always ask what is the price WHEN YOU PAY CASH! Go to your bank and get a lower interest rate.
Nobody looks at your bank statements! Credit score is for the interest rate NOT FOR THE PRICE OF THE CAR.
Never answer question HOW MUCH CAN YOU AFFORD! They will give you the lower monthly payment but for more years! Lease is easier as it is normally 36 mo.

I hate buying a car. My son just totaled a Corolla and I am looking for a decent used car. Thought I found a good deal and the realized the internet price they showed online was net of a $2K deposit. What the hell, how is that legal? I was really disappointed when I went to Caredge and they showed the price less the down payment as well. I understand dealers are trying to screw Joe average car buyer but I though maybe Caredge would see through this nonsense. I don't fault them, the dealer is at fault, but the delaer posting the price of every used car on their lot at $2K less than reality to reflect a buyer deposit is flat our fruad IMO.

I drove 3 hours roundup only to be dropped with 4K in dealer ‘mandatory’ additions on a used RAV4 prime xse 21 went from 37.1 to 43.6 then ‘waved some of them’ to 41.5. I walked. Dealer acted in bad faith. Had cash for a down payment on hand and reapproved from my credit union. Idk how a place like that stays in business it was a Toyota dealership too in California!
I've done that before. If I've got a running vehicle then I can afford to make THEM sweat. There's a million dealers out there, after all.

We use to go to the dealers when shopping for a car only to find them stonewalling us, keeping us there for hours. Oh they would serve us coffee, whatever we wanted, even offer to order takeout, you know because it took them two hours to figure up the price of the vehicle. Finally we realized they were just trying to keep us from having time to shop around. Really nasty technique

They should not be allowed to do that.
The dealer fees are so bad that if you're buying an inexpensive used car, you could almost double the price that it was advertised at.
The dealership has the right to charge whatever they want to, but they need to make it clear and concise they should not be allowed to mislead people.
There should be a lot of requiring complete transparency on expensive items like cars.
The only thing that should add to the price is the taxes.

Actually, in my opinion, the taxes should be factored into the advertise price too
If someone from Out of state is buying the car then that means they get a rebate for the amount of that states taxes because you know they will have to pay taxes to their home state.
I would have hung up long ago. Interesting to see this played out. I see car dealers keep coming up with new tricks.

Hahaha! They're doing you a favor by marking it DOWN to $46k?? I just checked my local Hyundai dealer... They have an Ioniq 5 ADVERTISED at $43k. Imagine how much lower you could negotiate if they're actually advertising $43k.

This is why i never want to call dealerships on the phone. They will beat around the bush and try to pressure you to commit or come to the dealership.

Credit only affects your monthly payments. Reason being your credit dictates the interest rate and the interest rate can bring that payment up or down
But they were only requesting an out-the-door price, to get the best deal, and that shouldn't ever change at the time of the sale, unless they are trying to scrooge the buyer.
I will never buy a car from a dealer again, just too much bs and eye poke to you just have a vehicle. Dealerships you are FIRED!

I went to a Nissan dealer a month ago to look at a Camaro. The salesman wanted to have my fill out a credit app before even showing me the car!!! I told him no. I came back the next day after they called me to come down. So I did. Drove 20 min just for them to say the car sold yesterday! The day I went to look at it in the first place. So the car was sold and he still wanted me to fill out a credit app. And they wanted to give me 5k less on my trade than what it’s worth!
Whenever I go to a dealership I bend the sales team over their desk and ream them HARD.
Knowing state law and franchise requirements goes a heck of a long way when purchasing a vehicle.
In GA, for example, it is a violation of GA franchise law to add anything (prep fee, doc fees, vin etching, or anything else) other than tax/tag/title. I've cost one Ford dealership its franchise over that marketing when I called Ford corporate HQ and let them listen to the recorded exchange with the salesman and manager. Ford told me they would reach out to the dealership owner. When I drove by two weeks later the lot was empty and the sign was blank (It's now a Kia dealership, not under the original owners).
Know your state laws and auto dealer franchise rules and have fun making the dealership squeal. Be advised, though, some will tell you to leave or even call the police and have you trespassed. I've had that happen, too. Judge was not happy to get that case on their docket, and was not mad at me.

I have bought several cars from a used car dealer in my town. Not sure if it's still the same because of inflation, but for years he told me that anything I liked he would sell me for $500 more than what he paid for it.

At Hendrick Toyota in Charlotte/Concord NC, they have all these add ins and they say you have to buy them. One of them is Gap Insurance, and they actually say you cannot buy a vehicle without purchasing all the add ins: extended warranty, service agreement, Gap Insurance, etc. they say you cannot buy Gap insurance from your own insurance company. It has to be purchased as part of Toyota’s plan they add to all cars! Ridiculous!
