I feel like you can easily wake up the crossfire with new heads, a better cam, equal length headers and a high flow exhaust. After that, it should be into the 330 hp range. Which is approaching the limit of the rest of the driveline.
I spent over half an hour on that bolt that backs into the valve cover today. The gas lines hold on to the bracket. I can't believe I've had to take all this stuff off to get the water pump, so I can change the timing gears. My engine is in the car. Lots of fun. Great video boys.
I would definitly look into a L98 serpentine setup and reroute those fuel lines. I would never ever never put that setup back on that car....I would literally go back to old school Vbelts and individual pulleys before going back to that set up. Makes future repairs that much easier.....
Love this video you guys are cool. I've got a 84 vet and I was thinking I'd maybe keep the crossfire injection part on but mod it. I think it would be cool to take an engine that's famously a piece of shit and make if powerful. It would be unexpected at a car meet.
Would love to get a parts list for this setup looking at an 82 camaro with the 305 crossfire and would love to swap it to a 350 or a 383 if it would fit
I know the motor will fit but can a 383 be used with the crossfire setup. Just one of those wtf type moments that would kinda shock some folks to have this setup. But fuel pressure and fuel injector would have to probally be a bit stronger as far as fuel per hr
@@mauriceolivares9287 You could use the crossfire on the 383 and will run decent but, the crossfire doesn't flow that good so, you will be loosing HP. I would run a Holley terminator X fuel injection kit or 4bbl carb.
U ain't got a drain plug over u timming chain?? Every 4 bolt main got one urs in video I didn't see it u got two bolt main .. got same motor mine got one tho..
Every time i try to find any info on these L83 from the 84 c4 nothing comes up. There is no info on how to upgrade or anything. When I google L83 5.3 engine pops up
everything we read online about this motor said 4 bolt main....then I looked up the casting number and got the truth....2 bolt main. the block is good stuff, the heads are crap but, it's a solid short block to start a solid foundation build.
Heads and cam are the 2 biggest peromance parts you could install...upgrading the crossfire, there aren't to many options so, I would go to carb or Holley Sniper fuel injection; if money wasnt a big concern. Its a good block and rotating assembly, it will handle 450HP with no concerns annd cam/heads and bigger fuel flow will make a significant diffrence. good luck....comp cams tech will tell you what cam to buy along with set of heads and valve train items you need to meet yoiu goals.
@@daredevil7442AUTOMOTIVE I’m considering doing an LS swap but am more interested in what you said about making 450hp with the CFI block.. Money is tight so how would I go about getting it to pushing bigger numbers? You said upgrading the camshaft and new intake headers that would go into I’m assuming the hollysniper or a carb whichever one I go with? If I did go with the hollysniper what’s making the engine go faster? Would I be able to turbo or super charge it? Genuine questions if you get back to this thank you.
@@daniellucatero-jimenez.1440 to get 450hp N/A he's going to have to change pistons to higher compression, nice set of heads (he has Brodix), big cam & and a decent fuel system.....he's going with a carb application. IDK....I'll start my project this fall. See where it goes at that time. Good luck
@@daredevil7442AUTOMOTIVE so new pistons heads cams and a fuel system? Is that what I should prioritize on my small block 350? Also when you say carb for the fuel injection are there any specific kinds? There’s a 350 small block I can get for under $1,100 that comes with power steering pump + power steering lines, an alternator, a water pump a power steering pulley and belts and I was thinking of adding on parts to that that way I have a new engine instead of taking apart the CFI.. also considering adding cylinder heads for the small block any feedback you can give me on how this thing is sounding? Want to add a turbo or super charger at some point..

I just purchased my second c4, my first one was an 86 with the 4+3 and these videos are helping me a lot with this new crossfire 84.
My 84 runs perfectly with its Crossfire.
Mine is still running strong.

Nice start to a solid budget build. I'm no mechanic but I do love muscle cars. Can't wait to see it finished and ready to be put in the Malibu
I loved this video!! Interesting teardown and good conversations 👍😂

Where did you put your engine host to pick it with the cross fire injection intake?

Hey man I have a question what’s the hose or elbow that’s connected to the passenger side valve cover?
