What kind of person watches a video called "The Electromagnetic Spectrum", which starts off with the title "an introduction to the electromagnetic spectrum" and then voted it down? What could possibly have not lived up to the description, in this clear and neatly explained description of the electromagnetic spectrum on an introductory level? Madness! Madness, I tell you!!
@@freethemuslimworldfreepale3112 Dude, I am a Muslim too but don't embarrass yourself. There is a particular place, and time for everything. We came here to learn something.
My cousins, who's last name is Ray: 👁👄👁 Edit: looking back this reply wasn't funny. But they were in my room at the time I commented so, it kinda was then.
This video reminds me of when I was in college and my professor asked me, do you know why the sky is blue? And I said, I don't know... It turns out that, the light rays from the sun that fall within the blue region of our color spectrum are more strongly scattered by molecules of air and particles of dust within the earths atmosphere.
Fantastic explanation. If i'd had this sort of thing available to me when i was a schoolboy i might've studied physics at degree level rather than finding it too scarily abstract and impossible to comprehend and visualise the concepts. Love stuff like this, it really helps make sense of the world, technology and scientific concepts that i previously found innacessible.
yeah seriously, i'm 31 now and been watching these youtube science videos for years now I've become way more interested in subjects I never wanted to bother with before when I was a kid cause I simply couldn't understand any of it at the time and thought " ill never understand this stuff" so I never bothered, soon as videos like this started popping up offering visuals and simple explinations I became fascinated about the world, from geography to science im learning more than I ever did in school in only a matter of days instead of years. if schools just used these videos to teach we'd have fewer school days less homework and more time to experiment with the knowledge we gain as kids at this speed.
So what? I do agree this type of explanation is better for us to understand, but you are naive if you think this makes a difference. Just look at the view count on any of these videos. Not many people see them and in schools you won't see these videos, the schools are the same system from 40/50/60 years ago, same shit with same brainwashing process. They dumb down the kids instead of making them smarter. I finished high school 2 years ago and i can tell you i learned more outside of school than inside, literally wasted 12 years of my life on indoctrination called "education". Now i study everything from nuclear physics to computer science and other topics, topics you've never heard about in school.
A very good introduction to the subject of the electromagnetic spectrum by NASA. So I was very surprised that there is an error in this otherwise fantastic video. At minute 2:47 the narrator says "..and GPS units in the cars driving by". GPS signals are emitted ONLY from the satellites in space. All they do is continuously broadcast a radio signal saying what time it is. The GPS unit in your car (or phone) reads the time signals from four or more satellites and compares their discrepancies. As radio (or light) travels approximately one foot each nano-second, the time readings from the further satellite will read an older time by the GPS unit. Distance from that broadcast can then determined and along with the distance to the other 3 or more satellites overhead, using simple geometry, one can then determine the receivers location on (or above) the earth. The GPS unit in your phone emits nothing by itself. Of course your phone (or car) will then likely send your information to whatever computer the map (or other) application is connected to over your phones data radio, and THAT DOES emits electromagnetic radiation. But by itself. GPS does NOT broadcast your position. (So any conspiracy folks out there can relax a tiny bit now about that particular meme.)
+Symphonics The animation doesn't actually show any cars going by, but yes the narration is absolutely in error I that point. Other EM radiation from overhead would be Dish network TV, satellite radio, air traffic from planes, as well as the general EM on all bands put out by the sun and the universe in general but they are saving that for later I suspect.
"And the phones using the GPS are sending signals to the towers.." Absolutely, but that has nothing to do with the GPS itself. Google Maps on your phone continually tracks you on your daily movements and some of those are abstracted and sent out to Google at some point but that has nothing to do with GPS itself. In fact, if you let Google Maps download your local area it is perfectly useable by going into airplane mode but leaving location services enabled. The GPS radio is a receiver only. Early stand alone GPS units such as Garmin also have no ability to broadcast anything. If your phone is not a smart phone and has no GPS your cell phone carrier can still track your location crudely to about 4 blocks simply by using the information used by the basic housekeeping functions of the cell radio in your phone. The cell phone system relies on communication about every 30 seconds or so to locate the nearest cell phone tower so when you do receive a call the cell phone system knows which base stations to use to ring your phone and complete your calls. Google, Apple, Microsoft, and Blackberry (and various applications on your phone such as Uber and Angry Birds!?!) also collect this location information along with Wi-Fi and even Bluetooth location information to improve the accuracy of their mapping functions (or just to aggregate more data on you for future use.) But again. The GPS radio is no different from the FM receiver in your devices, they are receive only. The tin foil hat people all think that GPS satellites receive information from your phone which is just sad and silly.

what a wonderful beginner to intermediate talk on the electromagnetic spectrum. Quite a few questions were answered with this vid and that quite a few news ones were given birth to.

Well done. This is complicated information and most people don't want to take the time to understand the basics. But this video does a good job with the basics.
Cont 2 So simply inputting more energy into an e.m. wave generator (for instance; a radio transmitter) will not automatically raise its output freq. but to raise its freq. while maintaining its amplitude you'll have to input more energy The above example with 10 Hz, 100 Hz and amplitude 5 is not exactly what happens but it makes understanding the principle much easier than also accounting for the fact that you'd also have 1/10th the time to generate each cycle, this also costs extra energy
Looks like we'll all have to go to school just to protect.ourselves in the near future. We want our life styles or not. Nothing is ever free. Not an option to be afraid of something just because you can't see it, communications is pushing us along the learning curve whether we like it or not.
Hey kiddos, drop this bomb on your teachers: tell em you cannot take a video seriously that states that GPS units emit electromagnetic radiation. They emit nothing if they're not wifi or bluetooth capable. They simply receive the navstar satellite signals, 3 or more to triangulate 3-dimensional position relative to the satellites, lol.
I might have missed something in physics class, however at 1:41 they say EM waves move at the constant speed of light, soo...if that's true, how does that account for the Doppler effect, audible sound reaching our ears later than the visual effect?
now I have the itches knowing there are trillions of invisible waves from countless sources going through my body constantly. especially my genitals which I already subject to high frequencies throughout the day. and night.
