so when you think about how time is relative (going lightspeed for a few hours could equate to something like years later (my math is non existant)), stop to think that we are actually all time travelers.
Think of it this was: it takes light 10 billion years to travel from TON 618 to earth. Even if it were to move in our direction it would take waaay longer than that to reach us. Also, considering that the universe is expanding it probably steadily moves away from us and might not ever come into contact with our milky way. But before all of this could happen, our sun will burn out anyway.
I massively appreciate the behind the "lies" segment. Science at this level is not simple and whilst it helps general audiences appreciate the basics by simplifying information, it is also really important to understand how complicated a question like "how big is a black hole" really is. Great video. Excellent work.
"Our sun is like a grain of dust compared to hypergiant stars" "Hypergiant stars get thrown around easily by supermassive black holes" "Supermassive black holes are nowhere near as large as Ultramassive black holes" This is starting to feel like DBZ in terms of size progression.
DBZ not even in comparison, nor ANY fictional characters in human history ultramassive blackholes, specially TON 618 have stupendous power output, that even all fictional characters including lovecraftians teaming together, still impossible to destroy TON 618, TON not even get scratches, everyone powers, skills, and their life is just get warped by it and become food instead TON literally weigh as same as galaxy, eating galaxies all at once, while the gravitational effect + the light visible from the half edge of observable universe like normal star inside milky way! TON-618 is 66 billion solar masses as we speak. It can most likely comfortably fit at least 9 to 11 solar systems inside. TON-618 is the 2nd largest blackhole in the universe, 1st place with Pheniox-A. Pheniox-A can be described as 1.5 or 2 times the mass of TON-618. This means Pheniox-A is comfortably 99 billion to 132 billion solar masses. This means Pheniox-A can comfortably fit 12 to 18 solar systems or maybe even more. Blackholes are widely massive and can be noticed through: A stronger gravitational pull Acreation disks
This music was some of the best in any kurzgesagt video. It just kept swelling as things got more epic to the point I was smiling just from the music alone.
Wierd how I literally cannot imagine how big these stars are. In the final comparison once earth popped out of view I was like wow those are big.. then at a point I couldn’t comprehend the size of them anymore. Crazy.
It's beyond human intuition to imagine anything this big! Once you get over several times the size of the Burj Khalifa it begins to not make sense. Even the size of the Earth is impossible to imagine from ground level (maybe unless you went to the ISS).
Monkey brains weren't made go count numbers above 20 sheeps. So we of course have a hard time imagining anything truly big. 900.000 thousands deaths by Covid is a large number, but we can't imagine 900.000 human faces.
The bit starting at 6:40 discussing the misconception that the black hole at the center of the galaxy acts as an "anchor" for the galaxy was very helpful for me... I actually experienced that misconception 😔. Thank you!
The music, THE MUSIC.... Its just perfect as it makes you go on a trip into galaxies, mysterious and dangerous. Thank you so much for doing this for all of us.
As I get older, there are fewer and fewer things that make me happy anymore. While watching this video, I realised I was grinning just like I used to as a child watching the Discovery channel 10 years ago. Thanks Kurzgesagt. :)

@@CrittingOut You actually will never "see" the black hole, cause to see something, light has to leave the object and reach your eye. Since blackholes swallow light whole, nothing ever comes back for you to see, you will only see the accretion disk around it. Kinda like seeing a hole in the wall, you see the wall and part of it is missing
The part that was jaw dropping for me was when he said," The Ultra massive blackhole is so large it has a supermassive blackhole revolving around it" 😀🔥
I can’t get over the part where he said “we only see what I looked like 10 billion years ago” that’s so mind blowing that it takes light to travel 10 billion years for us to see it.
That’s why I find it insanely unlikely we will ever make it far in the universe. Even if we find a way to travel the speed of light it’ll still take us 10 billion years to get there
@@Ownxer if there is a way to effectively travel to really far planets there has to be some sort of "wormhole" that can actively be opened/used to act as a shortcut. those blackholes are nothing compared to known universe size... and key word is known, what really blows mind is when you think where is edge of universe and what is behind it? no way its some field or wall, and its impossible to be infinite, so thats is really scary.
Imagining black holes is a funny concept. "Imagine something so big and massive that, even if you could imagine what you can't imagine, you couldn't imagine."
Yet you still don't have an idea of it's size despite this realisation and neither do I. Yet even after understanding and making the statement I just made, I still probably don't really get the true scale of it all. Now how many times must I repeat this "despite this statement I still don't really get the true scale of it" statement? That is the real question.
Phoenix A* is still not confirmed! The research has no consensus yet. Ton 618 has been proven through proper observation. Also phoenix A* was discovered in 2011 which makes this claim even more doubtful. Ton 618 is still the largest as of now

Please continue doing "Behind The Lies", super interesting and a great reminder of the messiness and uncertainty inherent with looking at a topic that's at the frontier of modern science
Technically speaking the largest "black hole" might be physically microscopic. The only thing we can measure are the effects of the mass, we cannot gauge the physical scale of the object. It could be a grain of rice that has gravitational properties so dense that light years of scale are just blacked out, but the object is absolutely tiny, or has ripped through space and time and exists elsewhere. This is the idea that each black hole is a big bang happening in a new cosmic tear in space.
Absolutely knocking it out of the park. Narration, animation, research, transparency, sheer information. One would be hard pressed to ask for more from a science education outlet.
@Repent to Jesus Christ Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the Earth. You and many of your ilk are very far from meek. Be more meek and get outa my face.

everything we can look at is taking place in the observable Universe ... 13 billion lightyears basically ... take a wild guys what kind of % this is compared to the rest of the Universe :D
Yeah if we already have such big black holes in the observable universe, imagine how big it would be in the rest of the bigger and bigger part of the universe.
I explain these facts holes as a latex glove that expands. As we know, latex balloon made of flexible polymers) start to grow holes too, when stretched. Until there is a new bang (I mean in the latex). Or do they gather each other? Galaxy groups do so under big attractor influence. Could they expand to a bigger hole the size of a black attractor?
If there's one thing I've learned in all these years, is that apparently there are no "limits", no "end" when you're talking about the Universe...neither to micro or macro. It seems everything is endless for any direction you take.
@@user-cg2hb3ye9v Thx for that new info, I didn't know about it. 🙂👍🏻 But I have no idea if we'll find out a new method of measurement or something like that in the future, so I refrain from saying it's "impossible" to define a limit even in this case. 🤔

TON-618 is 66 billion solar masses as we speak. It can most likely comfortably fit at least 9 to 11 solar systems inside.
