Interchangeable tools with a drive that's able to use other makes....just incredibly a step up. Certainly got the other top makers attention. Perhaps you can make a vid on best interchangeable tools that would suit different trades. Cheers mate.
Thanks for this vid mate. I got mine yesterday and was browsing UA-cam to see what others thought, but this was more and indeed brilliantly helpful. The swapping of the blade and craft blade is excellent advice, and I already feel more comfortable with it.
My boyfriend got his multi tool yesterday and had nothing but problems with it. He thinks he got a bad one from the factory. After seven hours of tinkering over the course of two days (yesterday and today) it’s finally in a useable condition, but he’s not very thrilled with the tool. The pin that holds the small tools was misaligned causing the hot swap bar to bind causing the tools (including the knife blade) to flop out.
Have him contact goat tool for replacement parts. I definitely didn't expect it to be perfect. Most forget the PST had 4 iterations after first release.
I got my GOAT Tool a couple of days ago and had similar problems but it was because I started playing with the tool without reading the instructions (quick start guide). Watching maxlvledc work his GOAT Tool helped a lot.
I promise you that he’s overall happier with a girlfriend who listened to him closely enough to type this much detail out than he is disappointed in his multitool. Communication is the multitool of relationships.
it's about time. Man still waiting on mine. all the updates have been at least informative and letting us know the shipping / customs probs they were having. couple of months behind aint bad. kinda like waiting on a suppressor can lol.....
I haven’t ordered this one, so I’m looking forward to what you have to say about this tool! I’m intrigued. Not sure how I feel about this lock system for the blades. Being modular is definitely a game changer though. I guess I’m going to have to bite the bullet and buy one.
Great review -- thanks for all the detail and insights. A minor point: a flat-head is a screw with a flat top and bottom that tapers inward, allowing it to sit flush with the surface it's driven into. The screwdriver that has a flat tip is not a flat-head -- it's a slot driver (as opposed to Torx, Philips, etc.). A slot driver is used with pan-head, washer-head, flat-head, and other types of screws. "Head" refers to the screw, not the driver!
This will be my first decent multi-tool, I found the fact I can put brass scales attractive, but, because I live in Australia, I can't carry a knife. Being able to remove it is a win for me. There doesn't seem to be any multi-tools without a blade except for the (bladeless) Rebar. (Big $ here compared to the US). Can't wait for it to show up.
In QLD you can carry a pocket knife perfectly legally. In other states you can carry a multitool or pocket knife with a lawful purpose. Eg: Use it for work, part of my toolkit, going fishing, going to mates place to fix his car etc etc Our knife laws are aimed at gangs (who mainly carry kitchen knives ) & scumbags, but have badly impacted the EDC community ☹️ The law is basically at the discretion of the individual Police officer, if you're a 15yo "gangster" you're in trouble, if you're a 33yo tradie it's not going to be a problem.
@@conradchester FYI it's 100% legal to carry a Swiss Army knife in QLD. It's specifically mentioned in the law. Other states tend to vary wildly based on location. Carrying a Surge is probably the norm in Darwin, but might get you in serious trouble on a Sydney train. Most states specify that you need a "lawful reason" to be carrying a knife or multitool. That could be "Going fishing", "Going to a mates to fix his Ute" or "My car is old & breaks down a lot". The Laws unfortunately seem to be written to give police discretionary power based on person/place/attitude rather than having able to simply prove : "I'm a Tradie not a meth addled Street kid with a carving knife". I'm an Electronics Tech and I've carried my SAK daily for 40yrs, I'm not stopping now because crims are attacking each other with cleavers.
Oh man, do I have some ideas for tools that could go in this thing. Lock picks come to mind, since the weight of a tool like that is awful if you're trying to feel out the inside of a lock. Just pop them out of the tool and suddenly they're useful. Some metal smith needs to get on that.
I like the gimmic of the Goat tool. I’ve been on the fence on weather to get me one with a full complement of implements. But I have the Leatherman Arc and Surge and they do everything I need
I can't tell how deep the carbide insert cavity is, how much material is behind the insert? It seems like a possible failure point on those pliers. Either way it's an interesting tool. I may not be replacing my leatherman just yet, but I'd like to see what they produce next. I'd definitely jump on a modular mini-tool with a similar form factor to the powerpint.
I agree, I think the concept of the GOAT is brilliant, with the ease of swapping, but the form factor is just too big for my edc. I’d like to build a blade-less power pint 2.0 (to complement a real knife), with some decent shears, the ability to properly use a t-shank jigsaw blade and perhaps a scalpel or craft knife. The ability to easily customise would be huge.
Just tried moving the lock bar to the inside of the outer tools. It kind of works like a washer. I can one hand open all tools with little to no clumping.
Really like the design and options. The clumping would drive me mad, i am used to the big Swisstool since early 2000s and this one is super elegant, need one tool, pull it out. Maybe in future iterations they could make these small cuts in the retention that makes this possible and also make it tighter, looks all lose and wobbly. Sadly i could not buy one, in germany we dont use creditcards all that much and they dont offer paypal at kickstarter:/
I ordered mine early in the Kickstarter campaign, but when I finally got it I had a lot of trouble with the scissors. They don't have enough spring tension to open back up between cuts and they unlock when the blades are together. Also they are very loose when closed into the handle and they fall open. I tried replacing them with the cutting hook, but that falls open too. Everything I try to put where the scissors were is loose, and I can't get the pivot screw on that end any tighter.
Have one on order. Will be my first multitool. Thinkingbabout getting one of those Ozark Trail numbers as a backup. Considered grabbing a Curl the other day when they were 15% off, but when I watched some reviews one of the biggest gripes was the price point, and its gone up $10 since then.
@@christopherroth7239 I don't think they were comparing it to anything. Dom talked about it as did Gideon Tactical. Both said everyone was saying it was priced about $10 too high for what you get. And it somewhat stopped me from ordering one at 15% (for basically the old retail everyone said they thought was too much).
@@hificat101 Anyone can say something is priced too high but if they are not backing that claim with data then it's just their opinion. No UA-cam reviewer has any idea what leathermans, or any other manufacturers, producrion costs are. So again, if any of them are going to compare pricing they need to compare tools of comparable quality made in the same country. Anything else is just them talking to hear themselves talk. I guess the main thing I am saying is don't let you tube reviewers opinions about prices stop you from buying what you want.
The small pick can rotate the D-shaped shaft in the same direction as the notch at the end of the blade. When in the open state, the blade can be separated from the D-shaped shaft.
Waiting on mine. I got the black with the brass scales, but looks like this might all show no go. looks like every part of it “flexes”. I almost twisted that flat head just watching this video
I've been saying for years Leatherman and Victorinox should go modular! Just think of the possibilities...perhaps if the tool release bar was highly polished and ~ 0.10 mm thicker it would be less likely to open errantly?
Great video as usual, really looking forward to getting mine but as an electrician I am most interested in the cutters, can you test these on various types of cable please, many thanks
It's just me, or if you have a mini modular multitool (about the size of a Sog PowerPint) with a pocket clip (similar design of the SRM😉) would be a killer?
Good stuff. Thank you for making this video. I agree the 10mm wrench is not useful and degrades the strength of the wide flat blade too much. I actually modified it into a bottle cap lifter and a chisel.
Great overview! Even though I don't have mine yet, there are things I already want to swap around. That's why I ordered some of the "extras" like the bottle/can opener. Near the end of the video, you mentioned "this is not a replacement for the Leatherman Wave or Swisstool MX Clip..." Would you say it's on par with those, once modded to your liking?
@Maxlvledc Hey man! loved the video, can't wait to get my tool in hands, its taking forever lol But anyway can you almost put a link in the description for where you got the exact philips m3 screws that you used? i searched amazon but i wana be sure its the right ones. Lastly have you tested the philips screws with the Ti Scales? does it get in the way at all? Would love a video on this actually haha
I’m thinking of getting the deluxe kit which is everything they have for the goat tool. Costs 280 bucks. I have the Leatherman ARC and the surge. But I love gadgets and multi tools. Been carrying a Leatherman for decades. Is this tool with all the bells and whistles worth 280 I wonder?
Question Dom. If you were only going to have the Goat, and one other multi tool, what do you think would make a great backup to it? As I said in aother comment, Im considering the Ozark Trail for a second MT. You look at so manyvof these from a million different angles, so I value your opinion. Thanks for the great videos.
I waited 2 years for this tool. As soon as I got it, I knew it was nothing more than a toy. Hopefully is a couple more years they'll have something better.
That big screwdriver with the hex cut out is probably designed that way on purpose. Seems obvious that the point of the hex is a major stress riser and its positioned right across the face of the tool. The guys designing this are definitely smart enough, highly doubt thats an oversight. More likely engineered failure. That thing is so big, someone will end up using that as a pry bar in some crazy situation and breaking the whole tool. The way it comes, you just break the one part.
Trying to install the brass scales but having terrible trouble removing one of the screws. Screw is now a bit worn due to the substandard tools supplied. Any ideas?
I'll bump this up. Nothing new from this outfit and no recent reviews , The newest thing seems 8 months ago. Their site is only partially active. The Store link works, but not the contact page or much else. Did they go under?
I lost my Leatherman Garage Batch 005. I would buy the Arc, but the spring loaded pliers on this are calling me. Will try it out for the price of the Wave+! Edit: received mine, so far it’s pretty impressive. It even arrived with the first change already implemented!
I have about decided to get one of these. One thing that made me stay away from the many well designed import multi tools you have shown is the steel they use. I always thought something like the Multi-force would still be a bargain with decent steel at twice the price. 2 or 3Cr steel is just not worth it at any price in my opinion. Here you get pretty decent steel. I think 420 HC gets a bad rap, and is plenty tough for my uses. So in a way you get the upgrade steel and for not a whole lot more you get the added modularity, all for less than half the price of an ARC. Kind of waiting on the Roxon Flex, but I like the outside accessible big 4 like on the GOAT. Something I immediately wondered about was a SOG style bit driver in the plier end of the handle. Maybe design or patent prohibited, but would be handy and allow doe a bit driver option there allowing for another tool arrangement on the inside.
I tried swapping in the ultra thin washer and it made it harder to swap the blades as I keep hanging up on the washer. I ended swapping it back to the original configuration.
I’m a leatherman guy. I’ve had tons and will continue to have them. Just got the Arc. But I have a problem, knife laws prohibit blades where I work. One crabby person and I’m suddenly a felon. I’m 110 percent interested in making this my work day multi tool.
where's the link to this tool??? NICE using hard steel cutter inserts I've had issues with the Gerber carbide shattering carbide makes sense in machining but NOT for a wire cutter blade removal Case Knives did it opposite, no blade play maybe there is a copyright thing...
Great videos on these tools. However, I still have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere. Where are GOAT Tools and their parts made? I've done internet searches, looked on reddit, and even the company's site. Can't find it. I've paid as close attention as possible to videos and don't see "made in ____" anywhere. Can anyone tell me where they are actually made? OH, and thanks for highlighting that 711L Hex Bit extender and giving a link for it. That is going to be my bit extender regardless of what multitool I choose. The next amazon order I make it's definitely going in the cart!
All made in China, basically there is no way to start a Multitool company differently. Eventually he wants to make it usa made...but that will lead to significant price hikes.
@@maxlvledc Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it. I spent the better part of an hour trying to find that info. Tried videos, reddit, official web site and multiple searches with google, bing and even a bit with duckduckgo. When I didn't find an answer I figured it would be china. Wish he would have been upfront about it. Than I wouldn't rank the company any lower than Gerber or SOG. Between the hiding and some of the design choices of the tools, I'll consider GOAT last. I get that producing in America can lead to a cost issue. It's a valid reason to produce elsewhere to an extent. Getting a new company off the ground is one of them. It's hiding it that gets to me more. When companies get cute by trying to side step with "assembled in America." try to hid it all together, or use "made in the USA" as a reason to price gauge, it makes me want to pass and look at clones. If what I'm buying is china I might as well reward the honesty, save some money, and take advantage of some redesigns.
These doesn't look like it is read to use when you get it? There is no point of one handed opening if the blade lock has to be pushed back in the tool every time you open it.
Man this looks cool but I refuse to back anything ever on kickstarter under any circumstance. The platform as a whole is so anti consumer I just can’t.
I don't like the leathermans, i have my sweet victorinox swiss champ... but this one!!! shut the f**k up and take my money!!! Where can i get it? 🥰😍🥰😍🤩🤩🤩
Having received my multitool yesterday I can’t say just how disappointed I am with the “ wire cutters” They are rubbish and I really wish that you had reviewed them when promised. I even stupid ordered spare blade but these “cutters” just crush the cables I have tried them on,useless
That is also what I found as well...wierdly I never used the cutter the whole time I carried the tool. It's definitely something that needs improvement but it's not an issue with the cutters as much as it is a lack of clearance ( no where for the wire to go)
@@maxlvledc Actually if you look at the cutter blades they have a flat edge hence the crushing,I’m going to try and grind a proper edge on a couple and see if that improves the performance
Fantastic video 👏 This is really a first-class beginners guide. Kudos! 🦾 I only had maybe 30 minutes with my GOAT Tool since it arrived and immediately ran into the very same issues and was now questioning myself how to solve that.

@@maxlvledc thanks!
I waited 2 years for this tool. As soon as I got it, I knew it was nothing more than a toy. Hopefully is a couple more years they'll have something better.
Are they as fragile as Gerbers replacable cutters? My centerdrive cutters shattered after a few months, and they seem to share a similar design.
It’s pretty hard to imagine bending or breaking the whole tool. The screwdriver is always going to be the weak point.
Trying to install the brass scales but having terrible trouble removing one of the screws. Screw is now a bit worn due to the substandard tools supplied. Any ideas?
How is it going with the 0.2mm washers? I'm curious as I want to install the same ones but I will not install them if there not worth it.
I will get one if the quality gets better. But on the other hand ...still waiting SOG to do the same...
I'll bump this up. Nothing new from this outfit and no recent reviews , The newest thing seems 8 months ago. Their site is only partially active. The Store link works, but not the contact page or much else. Did they go under?
Did you replace the plier cutter screws with Philips head screws as well?
I lost my Leatherman Garage Batch 005.
I would buy the Arc, but the spring loaded pliers on this are calling me.
Will try it out for the price of the Wave+!
Edit: received mine, so far it’s pretty impressive. It even arrived with the first change already implemented!
3:45 “some other tools” aka Gerber lol
How would you rate this compared to leatherman multitools and the victorinox Swiss tool and spirit
Anyone know what size magnet goes in the bit driver?
I tried swapping in the ultra thin washer and it made it harder to swap the blades as I keep hanging up on the washer. I ended swapping it back to the original configuration.
Are orders open through their site at this point?
The black ?
Scissors pivot spring clasp snaps off when closing.
when they add a tshank holder my god r possibilities will magnify
It's on their list but was too complicated for first batch
@@maxlvledc fair enough and that would solve the file issue (diamond)
@@ashsmall8103where do you get a t shank file? I've looked on Amazon and can't find any.
I’m a leatherman guy. I’ve had tons and will continue to have them. Just got the Arc. But I have a problem, knife laws prohibit blades where I work. One crabby person and I’m suddenly a felon. I’m 110 percent interested in making this my work day multi tool.
You need to move lol
I need to get this
where's the link to this tool???
NICE using hard steel cutter inserts
I've had issues with the Gerber carbide shattering
carbide makes sense in machining but NOT for a wire cutter
blade removal
Case Knives did it opposite, no blade play
maybe there is a copyright thing...
At the time their site wasn't up yet. www.goat.tools.com
Lol 😂 what kind of start time is 1:55
Haha, a little secret trick
👍🏼GOAT👍🏼
I didn’t get my tool yet.
If Apple made this tool those 'quirks' would be features!
by adding a small detent on the locking bar, the problem of the bar opening up with all the other tools would be solved
I believe you are correct!
So many GOATS!😅
These doesn't look like it is read to use when you get it? There is no point of one handed opening if the blade lock has to be pushed back in the tool every time you open it.
You should work for GOAT
Man this looks cool but I refuse to back anything ever on kickstarter under any circumstance. The platform as a whole is so anti consumer I just can’t.
Cool
👍
This is the tool used by Messi
I ordered my tool in June and I will not get it until next 2 weks
Thanks for the love it. Have a good day 😊
Not my problem
I don't like the leathermans, i have my sweet victorinox swiss champ... but this one!!! shut the f**k up and take my money!!! Where can i get it? 🥰😍🥰😍🤩🤩🤩
Indiegogo atm
Having received my multitool yesterday I can’t say just how disappointed I am with the “ wire cutters”
They are rubbish and I really wish that you had reviewed them when promised.
@@anthonyschofield7807 that's also part of it.
Hey yo
Multi-Tools don't make good hammers. That's what linemen pliers are for!!!
Hmmmm, kinda glad I didn't buy one of these.
First
This thing looks great for safe queen scum bags that will never use it. But will definitely spend the money to say they have it.
Lol, you must be fun at parties.
Fantastic video 👏 This is really a first-class beginners guide. Kudos! 🦾
I only had maybe 30 minutes with my GOAT Tool since it arrived and immediately ran into the very same issues and was now questioning myself how to solve that. But you gave me very good solutions and all around info on my new multitool.
Thank you for doing such a good job here! You spoil us
Not everyone damnit!
I was #12 so figure about 200-300 per week based on my conversations from the owner.
@@maxlvledc hey, I ended up getting that Diacamping dl30, were you still looking for feedback?
