I love the rain! I'm 70 years old😂 but always loved sitting out on porch watching the rain coming down. And just walking in it as well!😁❤💕❤💕
Anyone else use Luke's adventures as a vicarious way to get out? I do.
I sleep better, (when I do sleep), since watching a video in the evening. Very relaxing
Oh for sure! Love living vicariously through him. And l search them out when it's this EXCITING!!
I slept in my tent with my dog through a storm just like that last summer. the next morning, I left everything and went home. when I came back the next morning after another storm had gone through the previous night, the tent had collapsed. So glad I listened to my gut and didn't try to ride out a second night in the tent in that kind of weather. it was nerve racking to say the least... but I was hell bent on having the experience and now I can say I did that!! and lived... my dog slept right through the whole thing...haaa!! nothing bothers him at night...
I’m really scared of storms, so as a means to overcome it, I’m taking the exposure therapy route by watching videos of people who literally camp during this sort of weather. Seeing how enthusiastic and calm you were reassured me that my fear isn’t something to become terrified of. Nature isn’t our enemy. Thanks for your bravery!
Ikr? I feel like I’d freak out. I’m not afraid of storms really, but it’s different to experience it inside your home where you know you’re protected, and in a camping tent 😰 I don’t think I’d react as calmly as he did to a tornado warning 😂
I hear you. I've been known to cancel a camping trip because of a hint of a storm.
same
there's nothing that tops an old home with a front porch built for summer storms
sitting on a swing bench or a rocking chair experiencing the storm without many of its dangers
I'm phobic of wasps and I doubt there is any exposure therapy for that.
When I can’t fall asleep, I watch your adventures. I especially enjoy the storms and your various tents. I feel like I and all your fans are with you hiking or setting up camp! Soon I’ll be living in a travel trailer near a creek and hiking in the forests of Arizona.
ive started listening to luke just before i sleep and funnily enough i search especially for the stormy weather ones...it'a a nice peacefull way to fall asleep with lukes voice and a storm.
May a bear have its way with you. When it’s done………may it mount u again for a finishing move. 🤪
Sameee ❤️
Please be careful.
Same. It makes you feel cozy
As I sit on my tail I truly love watching your channel. I became 100% disabled due to military service and use to love being out in my native Appalachian mountains. Your channel really does bring me peace.
You want to secede but have no problem collecting your monthly disability paycheck. What a joke
I'm pretty much in the same situation 😔
I miss this stuff so much, storms while camping were my favorite!
Thank you for your service, working to defend us..
Bless your heart
💜 💜 💜 💜
Ignore the troll...
Thank you for your service. I'm praying for you and others in your situation. This is what love is, giving life and limb for what you believe in. My dad was in WWII and Korea. He passed last year at 94. He was a jump master sgt, Airborne paratrooper. My dad loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and hiking. His favorite camping area was in the White mountains in Arizona. Thank you.
Hiking in the rain hits SO different. I love it. Mostly because there's no one else out!
+1
Wish I had been there with you! I love all kinds of weather. Unfortunately I live in urban So. Calf. near the beach so we almost never get thunder storms. Our normal rainfall is only about 10 to 15 inches per year so by watching your videos I can live vicariously through you. Keep up the great work and keep those storms coming!
26:49 Luke laughs in the face of Nature's down pour. I love watching rainy adventures. Thanks so much Luke for all you do. Here is to all you rain lovers.
Yes!!!!!! Rain lovers!!
🍻 cheers
Keep it up Luke wish I could be there 👍
Hey Luke, could you consider making a video for all your tips on pitching a tarp. You’ve developed so many good techniques it would be a treasure trove for some of us viewers! Love the adventures as always!
I love a tarp myself. I know many setups. But I'd love to see some of Luke's set up tips and tricks. 👍
Yes and additionally how to setup tarps in flatlands with no trees. Maybe even a regular campsite
I'd love to see that as well.
I think he has done a tarp set up episode. It was a while ago.
Hes done a handful of tarp reviews and setup videos over the years just scroll down further
Nothing beats a good rain storm. I don't mind being caught in one as long as I'm not getting wet. It's comfy and sometimes a little thrilling.
😂 thanks for the shoutout buddy. Just got back from the happy place too. ❤️AB
Luke needs a Bruce😁
28:47 the mighty Lone Wolf logo appears in the form of a light reflection!
Bruce here brucey! That's a good boy Bruce!
I am stuck in bed post my 6th back surgery. Thanks to your video, I can get out and about! I appreciate your hard work.
Speedy Recovery
6th back surgery? Ouch. Watching videos definitely helps with the pain. Stay strong!
Speedy recovery.
I've had 1 back surgery back in the mid 80's. Nothing fun about it but you will get through it. Good luck 👍 to you.
I'm on the fence on a back surgery, lower back issues, leg numbness and weakness. How did you come to your decision to get surgery? Thank you 👍🏼. Hope you are doing well and aren't in anymore pain. ✝️
Being out in the rain is my happy place, Luke, wiser words have never been spoken. 🌧 + me = 😁
How's this for wiser words. Jesus is the Only way by which mankind can be saved.
Wiser words. Being Properly Prepared (clothing, experience, common sense) leads to success.
I to love the rain. It makes you know your alive.
Snow is my happy place so the forest the two together while
The forest is also my happy place combine snow with woods and I am very happy oh strength and honor and respect
Great to see someone else enjoying a good storm! I love camping in the rain and in thunderstorms, that truly makes me happy for some reason.
Yes .i enjoy it too for unknown reasons.
Aren't you afraid of camping in thunderstorms? What if lightning strikes u in the middle of the woods?
I love a good rain storm. Nothing makes you feel more alive and at peace
Love AB camping channel. Bruce is adorable and Tony is a joy to watch
Me too!
Me too.... Only Tony does not get the storms there the thunder and lightning. I think he said in the latest video that it's very rare that they have thunder. Just the rain and rain and rain and rain I love that channel too.
I loved how you were laughing like a pirate on a ship in the storm.
Thanks again for another great video.
YOU ARE THE STORM.
Sitting by the fire watching a crazy guy out in a storm. Love it!
I love wild weather. Impressive storm!! Thank you for passing along your wisdom on how to survive storms like that. Always enjoy your videos. Cheers.
Hi Luke, I hope when you got home some hot food and a warm bath awaited! The only adventure I had this past seven days was to clean 26 years of junk and living out of our garage. My honey did quite the job sorting, and I did all the heavy lifting. We filled a 10x 7x4 dumpster full. We gave away anything useful.
I LOVE thunderstorms!!! I won't lie though......pretty afraid of getting hit with lightning.
When thunder roars, go indoors. Check out the lightning maps that dislpay current and not so great camping spots if thunder is predicted. High elevations like this video are not the safest of places. Cheers! ⚡
4:37 it really looks like someone standing in the distance by a tree. I know it probably is just another tree, but man it looks creepy af! 😳
I noticed that too. If figure it was Bigfoot.
Awesome! The joy of this channel is the demonstration in REAL weather conditions, and the expert advice on how you handle it. I thought you would have set up a more “closed” tent configuration, but you had that open to the elements! That water bucketing down from that corner is an example I hadn’t thought of, to funnel the water that way. Thanks Luke!
I always make sure to use my surround sound headphones when watching your storm videos. The sounds of the rain on the tarp make it seem like I’m right there with ya! Cheers
I just did that. Awesome!!!!
Had one in, just put the other in. Damn that sounds good, and the thunder...
It would be awesome..
If he made a storm video from his storms..
for those of us that love to listen while going to sleep
😴
Hey Luke! Once you described your position, I knew your location. Beautiful spot & no worries, secret's safe! We only got pea size hail off the mountain. Wind carried off my trash can 😅! Outstanding rain gear and great video! Adventure, nothing like it! Appreciate you my friend!
Bald mountains. Appalachian ridge.
@@Og-Judy You think?
My favorite episode. Love that degree of storm camping! Cheers!
I commend you on showing us all how to survive and stay dry and warm in a storm. Thank you!
God as my witness, I love the rain. I can't be out in it, I had a lightning experience. But the thunder and rain and storming...yeah...I feel ya there. Great video!
Must be a Bailey thing. Gotta love that rain!
@@rbaileyrb lol. You have an awesome name!
Hey Robert I love the rain also. I survived the World Trade Centers first Bombing by minutes and a month before 9/11 I was working on the 104 floor but was out for hip surgery and then 6 years ago I was diagnosed with a giant brain tumor. I am weak but hanging in there and I watch the OutDoorGearReview every night to help me sleep. I hope and pray I get to meet Luke one day. God Bless
@@ToniMattTony Wow, that is a lot of hardship. I suffer from Pompe disease and my daily driver is a wheelchair. I can't get out and do what Luke does so I live vicariously through him and Suzy. I smell the ozone with each strike, feel the warmth or cold of each drop and feel the chills in my bones from the ice and snow. I am envious. Sorry if I spelled your name wrong, Suzy. :P
@@robertbailey4454 you too! Bailey clan and rain appreciation from across the globe!
I've commented on that 10'x10' Aquaquest tarp before, but i can't say it enough - it's the perfect all around shelter. I've used mine in place of a tent or to extend our dry space at camp with other people. Best purchase ever. And that forest! Reminds me so much of the wet, mossy stuff we explore in the Pacific Northwest.
When the film goes all the way back to the vehicle at the end, I feel better knowing he's safe.
Sweet!!! I too love hiking & camping in the rain. My dad always called me his little puddle duck...Lol. Great video, as always!! Thanks for taking us along.
I LOVED this video, I would have been terrified being out there in that storm, you are the best!!!
Oh you would be just fine.Confidence!!👌
I believe that if I can servive in the woods like that I probably won't be afraid but I'm afraid of running into a 🐻
That looks like the CCC forests we have around here. Replanted in straight rows by people with machines after logging.
That's what I was thinking.
Yes, old logging roads, trees planted in something resembling rows, and most all of the trees are 'young' - certainly not an old growth forest.
Something so lovely about the sounds of fresh rain when you're tucked up warm in bed...this is one of the most realistic sounding I've heard, thank you!
Hey Luke, these are the videos that are adventurous! And i love them! Getting to see new areas in the forest, never know what you will find! Awesome share!
Fantastic storm, it’s great to experience these trips vicariously, also a lot warmer and safer, thanks again.
Thank You for taking us along on this adventure! !!
Ancient Boreal Forests are gorgeous, definitely have to watch your step in them for sure. That was a wallop of a storm! Good stuff man glad you're safe.
What an amazing storm! I love being in the middle of storms like that. Love camping in storms also. Thank you for sharing your journey 😊
This storm would've been a perfect test night 😂
Would have been a great night to camp! I sleep so good when the rain beats on the tent 👍
I'm like you, i also love the rain & storms are a reminder of who's in charge..mother nature ❤
I spent quite a few years working for a ski area in northern New Mexico. Your comment about black bears being scared , reminded me of a couple of times while using a mulcher to stop some erosion. I had a 100 foot of hose stretched out and turned around to find a very curious bear about half way between me and the truck. They eventually walked away. But not before hanging out long enough to make me nervous. We were probably 5-6 miles from paved road or anything. Anyway just sharing fond memories
That storm treated us similarly here in Matthews. We had maybe half hour of rain w/10 minutes of hail. But in our case, the sun popped right back out w/rainbows in tow. Be safe my friend !
Tony & Bruce would have had a blast with you!! They love that weather!! Thanks again for your videos. Always learning from you. Keep safe.
Man I love your videos so much. I watch one every night once I get in bed & have seen almost all of them. Some I've watched several times. I dream of being able to go out in the woods & brave the weather, the crazier the better, but have not done so yet. I just want to thank you for posting these videos because I thoroughly enjoy each of them. Happy camping brother
Love the rain sound on the tarp so crisp, puts me to sleep, thank you for all your hard work, be safe, hope you do not get sick from the cold and rail
All your videos always great to watch and learn from. I appreciate all your time on doing what you do for all of us viewers, thank you Luke and always be safe. Luis
Production quality on this video was fantastic Luke! Loved it!
Yeehaaaa! Baby storm compared to what I experienced. Down poured for 2 hours straight with thunder and lightning so bad I had to put my fingers in my ears after every flash, which was every 3 minutes. Tent leaked plus I fell off my makeshift bed. Fun!
I find storms relaxing.
I need to get one of those tarps myself, but I'd probably go with a different Aquaquest model instead. I build my gearkit around optional visibility. There are high-vis items in the kit (including some items I can simply reverse to a reflective side), but the primary configuration is designed to blend in.
Saying his final goodbye, drinking disgusting coffee, whilst a mega storm cell takes over....and Luke is laughing, saying it was a good_death lol!! does Suzy know she is married to a mad man ?! jk thx for the trip, awesome!
My brother and I, when we were younger and camping on the beach, we were caught in an all out monsoon it seemed. We could feel the ocean water coming up under our tent, and the rain pounding us from above with wind beating the snot out of us. I still love camping in the rain as an adult... but with a hammock and an extra large tarp in addition to the hammock cover. Love what you do, Luke! Be safe and keep up posting!
Always a pleasure to stop by and have a coffee with Luke. Peace.
Great video, Luke. Awesome stuff. 👍🏽 makes me want to get out and explore some of the mountains and bushlands in my local area down here in Australia. Thanks for the inspiration, mate. Cheers
Love all your videos, but especially your hiking and backpacking videos. This video gives me Les Stroud vibes, your camera skills have came a long way. Keep up the great work, looking forward to your future videos 👍🏻
Love the sound of falling rain.
We sit on our patio to listen to rain drops falling on our roof.
I think there's something almost genetic about being able to relax in a rain storm. Anciently, we knew instinctively, threats tend to hunker down during a rain storm, so you also can relax.
Our nomadic ancestors lived in caves, hunted, eventually made fire. We've been living in dwellings and farming for a blink of an eye in human history. Something about camping out in the elements, siting around fire and surviving feels so natural to many of us, more natural than being indoors.
I bet that forest is very creepy at dusk, especially by yourself. You're the man for doing this.
More like naturally beautiful.
Depends how many Japanese horror films you've seen 😂
Enjoyed every minute of this trip. I've had some moments before, where I wondered if I was going to make it back one piece. At least I'd go out happy. 😁
Great attitude 👍
Oh hell yeah! ! ! Luke, Tony, count me in: I LOVE trips in the rain. I'm from Seattle, Washington where most of us have webbed feet anyway, so yeah, the rain is never an issue. My wife hates the rain the thunder, but I love it. There is nothing like a hot meal, hot coffee and the sound of the rain pounding on the tarp or tent and free light show you get from mother nature. Thanks for sharing that hike with us all. Wish I'd been there with you! ! ! Brian
Luke your so SOOO right sir, one,, too me your mindset makes or breaks you. Where others will fell you will flourish with the right one. An in the hour of your deepest darkness you " I pray so very hard, an know there will be a sunshine" if you keep pumping your knees! " this was a thing a sixth grade football couch told me." You never stop! My belief in the good Lord, my family, is what makes me believe in myself. So when you have an awesome excitement of being in the woods under dire circumstances, you pop out a five minute shelter an set your mind at ease an enjoy a so so cup of coffee. You sir are blessed!
Cell phone gps even with an app like Gia is super dangerous in remote areas. There’s a reason search and rescue use high end stand alone units- they rescue people who get lost using phone gps on a regular basis
Good point.
Be careful out there, black bears are not always afraid of people. A man that was very experienced like you said the same thing you did and was pulled from his tent in the night by a 500 lb. black bear and eaten. It only takes one time to end up dead. I always have bear spray and guns, it pays to be careful.
I had tent camped in many different types of weather but never a whopper thunderstorm.........until!!!...a traditional archery event in northcentral Pennsylvania last July. A frog strangler with cloud-to-ground lightning, gusty winds and pea to marble sized hail. When I got home I told my wife I could check "Been hailed on tent camping" off my list!
Wow best video yet! I don't think another human has been here in the last 100 years ! Almost scary to be alone out here .
Please keep camping in this location so cool!
Luke, thanks for all the work. I had a disaster at the races last weekend but really enjoyed the camping and thats very much down to you and Suzie. I'm going for a trip out tomorrow for a coffee in a local forest. Thanks man SP
This such a great video. I was a BSA scout leader for 10 years and we camped mostly in the rain. I love the sounds and smells of the forest when it rains and when you are hunkered down, you have a calm feeling that flows over you and a sense of adventure like no other! Again, what a great video!!!
This forest gives me Twilight vibes...and I'm here for it!
I find the sound of rain so relaxing I use sleep sound apps to fall asleep to
I just love that build-up before a storm , It's calming in a way for me and that kind of weather is perfect ,with all the winds
Good video Brother. I wanna join the club lol. Rain and Inclement weather is my absolute favorite as well. There's just nothing like it. Especially on an Adventure. Stay safe out there..
Nothing more fun than being hunkered down n cozy in a storm- The heavier the better
My favorite thing is sitting under anything while the rain pours down and I'm snuggled in something warm drinking anything hot:cocoa. Tea. Coffee.
Love the Aquaquest tarps..great products. Prayers for you that all is well. Thanks for sharing
Once again I am absolutely astounded by the high-quality Taster's Nasty content in Luke's videos. I love the over-night camps, the day trips, the honest dialogue, the cinematography, the musical conclusions, and of course the agenda-free gear reviews; but the Taster's Nasty content on this channel is off the hook. It keeps bringing me back again and again. Some rain, a tarp, and a cup of the Nasty is all a man needs to find peace in the great outdoors.
The rain sounds great. We haven't received rain like that in a while. It rained in the city of Lubbock. I live outside the city limits ☺️☺️. Thank you for sharing your journey. God bless
AB Camping is a must see. His dog Bruce is a border collie and he is a great mate for the trek.
I remember a backpacking trip we went on in northern New Mexico. We got into a storm that dumped over an inch of hail in the ground. My sisters were freezing and my Dad made the right call. We all turned around and headed back to the car. Disappointed with the outcome, but I knew we did the right thing and avoided someone getting sick or hurt. That trip taught me exactly what you were talking about being flexible. Great trip, fun video! Thanks!
Ive been blessed this past christmas with that Garmin watch. It was totally changed the way I hike in the backcountry. It helps me get away from pulling out the phone to navigate.
Recently went on a trip. Was on a high peak and I could literally watch lighting coming down straight on top of us. We decided for the safety of both of us to hike out and play it safe. Went back the next morning to see the majority of the larger trees down right where our camp was….be safe out there folks
Did you just keep hiking or set a shelter in the open field-no trees ?
Thanks !
@@georgepotcovaru913 we kept hiking. There was no open fields and no our stuff was soaked
The forest that was covered in moss was just so surreal. And the storm that passed over you was a blast to watch from my nice warm house.
I love damp gray days along with rainy days for some reason if your paying attention you find plants or rocks that stick out and make themselves more available to the eye which you just never see on.bright days
Great videos great advise living vicariously thru you is awesome
You make it seem like you talking to me four feet away ......keep up the great camera work as well
Whilst my preference would be for a tent over a tarp for overnight shelter, the idea of heading out for an afternoon in the rain with a tarp and a stove certainly carries appeal.
I love tarp camping! I have ridden out some hellish weather underneath of a 6 x 8 tarp. Some think that I am weird for taking a tarp and a closed-cell foam pad on even a day hike. You never know what can happen & tarps are so fast and easy to set up. That was intense! I love going backpacking in the rain; it is nature's crowd control.
Too bad that there isn’t a cave of some sort close by for u to take shelter! I remember before a tornado that things got very quiet…the birds even got quiet! Be safe Luke! ❤️🇨🇦
One time I went camping I woke up one morning and the forest was on fire after a dry thunderstorm and God was with me that day Lucky for me I ran down the mountain pretty quickly maybe 20 minutes
This guy is always in a thunderstorm!!!
Luke, that tarp is awesome! Thanks for sharing the storm. 🌧
Living near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, love being out right before the thunderstorm rolls in, especially up high in the mountains. You can feel the temperature change in the air as it drops slightly, the smell of rain carrying on the breeze. Nature sounds of insects seem to change as well, as the know to take cover. You can sometimes see the lightning and hear the thunder and the count in between let you know how close. Lightning is nature's worst killer. As the electricity in the air builds up, if it's close by you can feel the hair on your body standing up. At that point you should be up on the balls of your feet on your toes with your hands wrapped around your knees to make yourself a smaller target. Been really close a couple of times and it was scary. When it starts getting close you can notice the leaves on the trees, the bottom sides will actually turn upwards to receive the moisture. Have seen it rained so hard it's stripped to leave from the trees and hail is usually out in front proceeding any bad weather like a tornado or have seen it rained so hard it's stripped to leave from the trees and hail is usually out in front proceeding any bad weather like a tornado or severe thunderstorm. I wouldn't want to be out in an open field or on the top of a ball that's the worst place to get hit by lightning. Luke is definitely correct about hypothermia, which has killed several people in the Great Smoky Mountains, the sudden temperature drop over just a few hundred feet of hiking. If you get off the trail it's even worse because you run into things like sinkholes or drop offs or rocks and people have fallen off cliffs. If you can't see where you're going your best to stay put. A good idea to carry some bank line, that's thicker than kite string, 🧵 and the role of it's good for everything from cinching down tarps and equipment to making snares or tying to a tree to make your way off trail for bathroom duty. Lots of people have been lost like that, if they would have only tied a string they could have followed it back. A good knife, fire starters and a Bic lighter wrapped with duct tape that you can use to start fires or fix things, water purification tabs (collect tarp water to drink), extra socks, mole skin, a couple garbage bags that can be used for all kinds of things, beef jerky, an emergency space blanket, that can help hold the heat in till you can get to help. Most of your heat is escaping through your head so you have to have a watch cap or toboggan. I love these videos. Thank you Luke. ❤😮
Awesome video! I love camping in rain as well. I often plan camping trips based on storms and my family thinks I'm crazy. That forest was amazing as well. What a great place!
First time here and seeing how happy you looked just sitting there in the storm with hot coffee brought back so many happy memories..nothing better ..tho thankfully in Ireland we do not have bears lol
Glad you are safe and got out of there.Thank you 🌼
I also love tarps! Yes, I agree a tarp shelter can be pitched anywhere even with trees absent. I noted you never use hiking poles, manufactured or self made. Either can be used to set up an emergency shelter. I've used two lengths of willow branches to set up a Swedish ground shelter that will defy very strong winds. My survival bag in my van (full time van lifer) includes a safari 10X10 Aqua Quest and an emergency two-sided blanket from a ground sheet and for a visual rescue needed set up. I love your tarps color, and that of your apparel and pack. Great adventure with great survival advice...you rock, Luke!
Nothing like being in a tent or under a rare during a storm. Sometimes I pitch a tent in my backyard when a heavy storm is comming just to experience it.and yess ,a nice big hot cup of coffee makes it amazing
I'm a desert boy who gets uneasy when bad weather is around while in my built for the west Texas wind house, and this dudes just like, gimme a tarp and I'll have lunch in a tornado spawning storm.
Amazing Adventure, loved it!!! I will start watching your videos more often, i truly loved it, love the rain and the storms and the camping, the tarps, the coffee. Great Video. Thank you so much for sharing.
I would love to go camping somewhere like this, it’s beautiful.
