- The last time we featured Jason’s Mazda RX-3 street car it was powered by a 13B rotary turbo engine and rolled on huge 19x12in wheels. At the time Jason commented that he always wanted a 3-rotor. Well fast forward a number of years later and the re-finished monster Simmons wheels remain, but under the bonnet is where our interest lies.
The larger displacement 20B 3-rotor bridge ported engine was built by Promaz and features a Billetpro sump, water pump and engine brace. A Garrett GTX42 turbo is aided by a Turbosmart wastegate and blow-off-valve all governed by a MicroTech LT16c computer running on pump unleaded fuel. Another big change was in the gearbox department. The Supra h-pattern was ditched in favour of a very cool Samsonas 6-speed sequential unit, making this one very desirable street Mazda.

Reminds me so much of my late brother. At 3Am in the morning coming home from work, you would hear him coming from over a kilometre away, getting off the freeway exit, taking corners, accelerating and finally turning into our drive/court. ❤️ hearing this sound again brings back fond memories and helps his memory live on. Are all you dudes that are commenting about the Simmons wheels newborns or something lol because you’se all sound like this style of rim, the fr19, have been around since the seventies or eighties, which would maybe warrant the term “classy”, or “desired look in it’s day...”.
If i said it should have a set of old school v5’s or b45’s, i reckon you’se wouldn’t have a clue what i’m on about...
I know Simmons have recently released a new school range (which i dunno, i reckon they remind me of a cheap set of cast alloy rodney janes or speedy rims) but fr19s etc are still regarded as new school generation of simmons, having only really been around for 15yrs tops

P.s the orange rims make me moist, i reckon its every man to their own, if you detract from the look and appreciate the tonne of work that went into tucking 315/25/19’s under the guards of a go cart sized car then you’ll be amazed
Pro Munro Go find B45s or V4/V5s, non existent these days. The FR series is old school compared to Simmons other styles, only the B45 and V4 were around longer. Not to mention you can't get B45s in anything bigger than 17" anyway and that's why people went to the FR's for 18"-19", just saying.

madrx2 B45s would've been better but how often do you find them or V4/V5s nowadays? FR19s are just as classy.

Pro Munro Simple, because they are as classy as each other, the only difference between the B45 and the FR19 is the edges from the B45 are smoothed out, rounded and enlarged, they are both still 5 spoke rims. All it becomes is your opinion vs mine at the end of the day anyway.

I’m sure 565 hp is still a handful in that little chassis but what a waste of a 3 rotor, you could make that power easily with a 2 rotor.

The engine in this RX3 is an excellent piece of engineering along with the 6 speed gearbox and trim but the wheels and colour of the car leaves a lot to be desired. Needs some colour change

What are the Australians laws of 4 door 4/5 seat cars with a roll cage? Are they allowed passengers seated in the rear?

It doesn't have to be completely street legal to drive on the street. Most cars are not street legal in some way.
There's plenty on the roads with 1/2 cages, I'd dare say there's a way to have it legal.
Aftermarket ECU should make it illegal straight away.

So much hate on the simmons, its one of only a handful of wheels that actually suit the car. They are huge but he should just lower the body over them. Super tub.

I kinda like the Simmonds .... Not sure I would have gone quite that big, m'self, but the general looks & feel is very cool. A 20B RX3 would make quite a nice useful little street car. (Shame about the fuel mileage, but otherwise...) Put 17s on it, and you've still got that. Go up to 19 and you're kinda heading into the area of a monster-truck, or at least, one of those fourbies that's jacked up 2 ft higher than it should be... At which point you're not really dealing with a useful street car any more...

Simons World. I’m hearing ya dude but this is probably part n parcel of a bp triple rota. I mean a rollacammed 6sec dragcar will also have a vibration whist idling or at full noise. Pretty sure they woulda dealt with any unknown vibration before bangin boost through it on the hub
