- After finishing second three years in a row (including in 2006 by just six points), Max Q found gold in Denver, Colorado in 2007. En route to their elusive championship, they poked fun at themselves by singing a parody of Frank Sinatra's "Here's to the Losers."
If they wouldn't have lost those three times we wouldn't have gotten this gem.
I'm kind of new to the whole barbershop thing...but this seems like it's gotta be one of the most overall entertaining performances of all time.

You are right. This has to be in the top 10 finals performances of all time in BHS history. It's 2023 and I still get pumped up about this performance like it's first time. That set, which included Somewhere from West Side Story right after this song, was masterful.

What a great quartet wow. So fun to watch. Tony is a barbershop legend, Greg's tenor voice floats lightly above the lead, lots of support from Jeff as a dark-timbred bass, and Gary has to be one of the best baritones ever with his ability to blend but also add so much colour. Awesome, hope to be like these guys someday!!!

I’ve heard people hate on Tony being a lead (ridiculous right?), but I think Tony sounds just as good on lead as baritone. He’s got the personality and sweet sound of a lead yet like a baritone he can fill out a chord. I love anything by Tony really. He’s just an awesome singer all around. He can’t do wrong

I thought that was Tony, but I wasn't entirely sure because he has lost so much weight. Still, even being relatively new to this, I can tell that Tony is almost, if not the best, barbershop member in the Society
The thing a lot people don't realize about Tony DeRosa is his ability to sing tenor when necessary

The same. This group was his third gold medal, Main Street his fourth. (He won his first two as a bari with Joe Connelly on lead both times, hence the joke toward the end.)
(Also, Roger was tenor on Tony's first winning group and Gary was tenor on Tony's second win, hence the joke about Greg being at fault for the silvers, since he was the only one in this group not to win quartet gold previously. In reality, Greg is the director of the Vocal Majority and has 13 chorus golds; his 14 total are the most in history.)

So barbershop quartets moved around to different groups? Doesn't that make practicing difficult? Not to mention remember which song is with which group?
Once a quartet has won the gold, they can't compete as a quartet any more. If the individual singers want to compete again they have to form a new group. So it seems like many good singers are "serially quadogamous". ;)

17AJ06 1984 Rapscallions Quartet and 1990 Acoustix. Both won gold in that time.
