    Jaedong's ZvZ was probably the most dominant anyone has ever been at a matchup , completely insane stats. Hundreds of pro players are practicing all day in a 1v1 game and he's winning like 80% of his ZvZs for most of 2009, 70% lifetime. JvZ

    I remember this game back then. That was one of the reasons why Stork was my favorite player. Idk why you talk about him like he wasn’t as important. Guy won an OSL and also finished second many times in both OSL and MSL. Guy is a legend. Only frustrating about being a Stork fan was he choked a lot of times but then he got some insane games like this. One of my favorite games was Stork vs GGPlay @ Andromeda that was epic also.

    I wanted to take voice in "you need sponsors" to have games.
    Because once - I have some (minor) background. Not SC/SC2 in a direct way - it's gonna be about boardgames.
    So I run a series of a board game tournament in a small european capital city (2M+ citizens). Main publisher is in US, local is in our country.
    And even thou we (me + my buddy) run 95% of everything - it is still this 5% of support that helps a f#!@ lot!
    There's this one dude on publishers side who is siding with the community in a quite big corporation that treats our title as a marginal product. And we can be angry at publisher or... be happy that they provide what they can. Simple thing: you suddenly need a lot of boardgames if you want to run a set of parallel matches, you need big, small and participation prizes. Even if publisher sucks at marketing - it's something.
    And there's the community - we are quite known in worldwide community. So anytime we win something online - guys from other places send us some additionall stuff to share with local community.
    Sure my experience is not something to compare with gsl,asl or iem and other.
    But on any scale - doing anything alone is hard and once you hit the wall it's difficult to tackle. But once you have an ally - 1st you don't want to disappoint (on a business level there's more obligations naturally), 2nd you can share your difficulty and think about it together.
    As for SC & SC2 - as long no party pushes their money to change balance - do it. Place a banner wherever so our hobbies - being it playing or just watching live longer!

    Watched this game live back in college with my friends. It was 345am if I remember correctly because we were on pacific time, and the games started at 12.
    You literally had no idea who was going to win until the last couple minutes. It was absolutely crazy.
    Protoss I think has historically won these very long, drawn out maxed out resource games vs zerg because of the ability to max psionic storm energy and then make archons. Reavers too.
    Late game Zerg will typically win as you’ll just go around the map killing expos with cracklings and wearing down the toss with defilers. But maxed out resource games favor the toss from what I’ve seen.

    I think Artosis described ZvZ as tending to go towards the more aggressive player, which was why Jaedong had such success, but slower, defensive play let Protoss do better, which seems to be Jaedong's weakness, he tries to brute force his way past defenses over and over.

    And that map was terrible for Protoss. Worst 3rd with no gas… and super far away 4th bases almost impossible to defend plus the narrow choke between main and 2nd. Even though I remember that game I still thought Stork lost that game as I believe I remember him losing at this map a few times horribly. Still this one was a super come back. Thanks for posting

    I never followed BW closely but when i was starting to get interested in it, this was a recent match and it showed to me how epic macro games can be and made me a fan of Stork. Jaedong sweating is part of what made Esports/BW look so cool and "legit" to me. I had thought it was kinda normal but now watching this video and thinking back, sweating is definitely not normal LOL.
    I agree with Tasteless, great observing and great job catching the drama and knowing when to focus on Jaedong's cam or not, and not missing moments. It's cool going back to see this game covered, I guess it really was that cool of a match and not just some random match that I happened to come across.

    I think the issue with sports was trying to emulate monolithic systems like Dota2 or LOL. The thing was those games essentially had a player base at release to monetize. Dumping a ton of money into SC2 OW or Hearthstone with the expectation of making TI money or LOL sponsor involvement is such a longshot. Only starcraft/wc had an existing scene and a tiny niche really. All they achieved was wasting the last goodwill Blizzard had.

    the players then and now cant be compared. the things the players then figured out are used to day and people say "oh thats just standard play now"...yes because the players back then figured it out and standardized it. in general you look at apm which is the only thing most players have going for them and its the same then and now. if you put a player from today in back then you would get the same result, they would play the builds that exist to their best ability while waiting for the very few players who innovate and or refine builds to do so and then they would pick that up and play it to the best of their ability

    BAR, beyond all reason, is the remade TA, total annihilation. The game is a beautiful ancestor to Broodwar that features 2 slightly differing races. It's a hard watch as it allows one to zoom out almost mapwide, much unlike the original game or BW. And the unit differentiation is way less as everything is mechanical in nature. Please quit the current day hype lmfao. The previous players were better, especially under the awful KESPA team's conditions. The meta wasn't as advanced as it is now, but players were playing to their maximum potential far above what we see nowadays. Not only were they mechanically superior on average, but they understood the meta they played in better and made far less mistakes dealing with meta tactics.

    • @florianschulz3027
      @florianschulz3027 7 місяців тому +3

      pretty sure that no protoss back then could do anything close to snow's reaver micro.
      APM numbers from back then and today seem to suggest that mechanics have advanced too.

    • @conorcarrigan5543
      @conorcarrigan5543 7 місяців тому

      You should double check that APM stat you're citing because you're flat wrong. Also not sure if you know, but flat APM is useless you can spam 800 and get nothing of value done. And while you're citing Snow's reaver micro I'll offer you Boxer's dropship micro? Just because it wasn't a tactic used in the same fashion doesn't mean they couldn't have done it. It is like when pros learned about muta stack and muta micro, did those pros who didn't know that before not learn it? Meanwhile the practice was far more rigid and through they the knowledge of the entire meta was executed on a far more perfect level than it is nowadays. @@florianschulz3027

      Teamhouses allowed them to perfect game strategy and sniping player.
      But mechanically, now with better framerate monitors and pc and equipment, the mechanics are stronger now.
      Back then, they were playing with 60fps CRT monitors.

    • @conorcarrigan5543
      @conorcarrigan5543 7 місяців тому

      Team houses were idea for creating peak performance, mechanically and strategy for sure.
      Newer hardware and framerates don't matter for a game like broodwar, nor did it suddenly change the mechanics of how you actually played the game. This isn't a shooter game. If you push F2 and your screen snapped to that location, that information was instantly there.
      Some players still play at near perfect levels, but the overall challenge from the lower end is far less because they're not as good as the players back then who had to perfect everything. They had to practice all the time, so they knew the meta, mechanics, and strategy far better for that meta compared to those who know this one. @@yrag89
