Not sure if Mark has addressed this yet or if this would be considered too rules-lawyery, but there's an interesting interplay with Mark's Crit rules and best-dragonish-boi Xantheus/Tommy H's Chaos Bolt spell. As per Mark's rules, when you crit, you score max on the dice, then add the dice rolled again, right? So, on that basis, Chaos Bolt's 2d8 +D6 would have effectively rolled 2 8's on the d8's, and 6 on the d6, plus whatever Tom rolled on the "again" rolls. As Tom said, for the Chaos Bolt, if you roll the same number on the d8's, it can then jump to the next enemy. So, does that mean that nat 20's for Chaos Bolt is an auto-bounce to next target? Or is it "proc-ing" off the "same number rule between the d8 and d6?
Strictly speaking the text of the spell states that if you roll the same number on both d8s, the energy leaps to a different target. If something would cause you to not roll the dice, then you would not be able to leap to a different target. In this case it is probably best to go with you roll the dice and then add max damage to that roll. Either way, it shouldn't be automatic at least according to the rules.
With chaos bolt, crits aren’t considered with the roll. If you crit on a normal chaos bolt, you roll 4d8 (+2d6) but only the initial 2d8 are the ones that matter for bouncing targets.
@lucemferre generally yes. But I think the hombrew is the damage dice is max and then you roll the crit dice. Which messes with the normal rules. That's an easy fix by just saying the crit damage is maxed.
Given her religion I am surprised she isn’t a necromancer/military commander. But we don’t know yet how her subclass will work. Maybe she still is someone that fights from afar by barely lifting a finger. Because so far fighting like this feels sacrilege.
The druid spell list is larger, and their spell slot capacity is much higher. This is more along the lines of the subclasses that grant spellcasters martial prowess. I'd argue the stat distribution of a druid leaning towards wisdom also fits Gruff better.
@@matthewhoffman9632 I came to that conclusion some time later. Probably the exact reason. I put the last campaign out of my head so I can give this one a fresh perspective but that was a bit of a backfire lol.

Either way, it shouldn't be automatic at least according to the rules.
As was previously stated it is not you roll max damage then roll again, it's you get max damage possible on the dice and then roll.
I'll probably have it do max damage on the d8's and d6, and then use the 2nd roll of the dice to determine if it bounces/damage type.
With chaos bolt, crits aren’t considered with the roll. If you crit on a normal chaos bolt, you roll 4d8 (+2d6) but only the initial 2d8 are the ones that matter for bouncing targets.
