I have to comment that you're no typical Japanese husband. You approach your marriage with an open heart and do reflections with your wife. This is one of the main keys to a successful relationship. Credits go your missus too. Look at her willingness to be open with you in the video. I dare to say that not many spouses do that. Bless the both of you with many more joyful years to come.

I'm married to my Japanese husband for 7 years now with a kid. I must say cultural miscommunication was the thing to overcome like what is ok to say or sensitive sometimes we don't get each other but we will try to explain once we cool down. Also he is not the kind to give me surprises or show outward affection but I'm ok with it. It is true once you have a kid, things change because there is an additional responsibility and another life depends on you two. But the kid does help diffuse tension or becomes a topic to talk about. I started going back to work part-time and my husband had to pick up the kid and prep dinner on days that I work, so he does chip in since we don't have help from parents or a helper. He cleans the toilets weekly and his cooking is definitely better than mine. As with any relationship, international or not, there has to be the understanding and stepping in for each other without comparison. Cheers to your 5 years and many more to come!
I am impressed by the communication between the 2 of you. There is a bond, an intelligent, caring attitude. But. Start a family. Kids add joy and more love.

We have an interracial marriage. I am Chinese and he is an American. The secret to a good marriage is forgetfulness. I always forget so I don't get angry for long. @@GhibOjisan thanks for taking the time to reply :) I think it’s a really great quiz not just for couples but human relationships in general hahaha been through a lot the past few years working my ass off as a corporate slave in Japan and yeah 人間関係 is really the worst thing ever as a foreigner who not only has a language barrier but also cultural barrier 😭 I started applying things I learnt from dealing with my husband who’s a little inflexible and in turn the approach helped with 融通効かないおっさん at my work too hahaha hope everyone get to have happy and sustainable relationships ❤️

It's about cherishing the moment and being grateful for what we have, rather than focusing on external appearances or extravagant spending. So, whether it's leftover food or a gourmet meal, it's all part of the celebration and should be appreciated, which I know you both do. You've mentioned that you cannot be too Japanese. It's a mutual thing. We are all brought up from different cultures and family backgrounds. It's not just about you not being able to be too Japanese; your wife also cannot be too Singaporean. It's a two-way street. If you believe you cannot be too Japanese, your wife also can't be too Singaporean either. It's about being grateful for what we have and understanding each other's cultures with empathy. It's a beautiful journey of mutual respect and appreciation for our differences, infused with humour and love. Both of you are funny and humourous. I love how you call your wife "Wifey" ----- lmao🙂

If you want something or not happy, just be direct and say it out but be gentle if it is harsh news. Stop expecting your partner to mind read and do exactly what you want with 100% accuracy. And when wrong or misread, blame them for not loving you enough to already know it. That’s just childish and waste of time. Sometimes love is also not expressed in words but in actions. Learn to notice the little things that your partner does only for you. Those are easily taken for granted and seen as a norm after being together for long while. Ask yourself if a stranger or family would do the same for you and in the way you like it done?
