polo sitting there waiting to get married.
Small talk: sooo divorce rate is pretty high
the chances of Japan's family laws being as insane as the ones in the US has to be very small so it really doesn't matter.
I love how neither of them knows who pays for the wedding,
She has no clue. She gets her info from Sex and the City. She keeps going back to well my friend say the man pays for the wedding she’s a gold digger.

That is the most unemotional wedding I have ever seen. Love Japan. When can I get married there
@@andyw.3048 I feel like that is good cause not everyone wants to see that and some people don't like public affection
I wish you two the best!! My wife and I have been married 41 years now.
Oh my goodness! That’s wonderful! Here’s to many more to you and your wife :)
For people wondering why they got married like they were in a DMV. It seems that they had a civil marriage, my parents were initially married like that then they just had a "religious"(those extrvagant type of weddings) wedding sometime after thay had me. Civil marriage is pretty common for young couples who can't afford to host a wedding but they really just want to tie the knot.
All marriages have that component in America. it is just done after the actual wedding usually. Marriages MUST be registered to be legal. A license is usually applied for BEFORE the wedding and you usually have like five days to DMV the license (edit) except common law marriages.
In Sweden even if you have a civil marriage there still needs to be a marriage officiant who pronounces you married, and from that moment you are married. Of course there is also paperwork that needs to be done before and after but there is always a ceremony. If you have a religious marriage, you still need to do the exact same paperwork.

Congrats to both of you
A very wholesome/family-friendly comment from a very wholesome guy with a wholesome profile picture!
damnn this is the easiest marriage i've ever seen! it's amazing and i'm so happy for you guys.
Most ppl are nervous on their wedding day, Paolo: "Tell me funny and interesting facts mr marriage person man!"
When I visited Japan we were touring around in a shrine and there was a wedding going on, we watched a bit from the side and they actually asked me and my friends to be in few of their wedding pictures.
It cracks me up every time to think that some couple has wedding pictures where they are in full traditional Japanese wedding clothes with few white guys sweating bullets in shorts and t-shirts next to them lol
Suomas
“Hey, can you be in some of my wedding pictures?”
“Of course!”
Years later...
“Dad, who are those guys in shorts?”
“Don’t know son, but they were there when I needed them”
On the day of marriage he is talking about divorce 😂😂
@@christiantorreon6146 The more you talk the less likely you are to get divorced. A good marriage has plenty of intercourse (both sexual and social).
@@lucystephanieproperties when I was getting married I thought about suicide so they are better
Yup that divorce rate for America is pretty true tho that's why we have a saying "half of all marriages in divorce"
I just went to my first wedding in Japan as one of my foreign friends got married to a Japanese. Fortunately, she made a secret Amazon registry for the foreign guests as she herself thought it was too much to expect each guest to give them $300-$500 for their wedding.
I personally don't want to spend too much money on my wedding. I'd rather spend more money on the honeymoon and on a future investment such as buying a house.
So even during marriage, Paolo is still interviewing people. XD
This whole time I thought Maiko was just some bored friend in the background, always tapping on her phone with a straight face in the background.
lolololol. Yeah I was thinking similarly after I saw the new years family episode. I kept thinking oh, who is this chick who would invite a foreigner into her family new year's tradition.
@@ghklfghjfghjcvbnc my guess is the family does not approve of him...judging by the sour face the father had at the family gathering lol. But that does not mean it won't last.
@@AstroMartine Have you guys never been to Asia? Lol, seriously. People just don`t usually act all lovey-dovey over here. And the divorce rates compared to the USA or Europe show that this does not mean less stable marriages.

Oh lord !! I’m trying to imagine the Indian families reacting to this wedding ! 😂🙈
Correct your English first before you call others’ opinions as bullshitting,, it’s “..like is DOESN’T happen..” N I never told court marriages don’t happen in India,, all I was trying to say was if Indian parents n joint families watched this video,, they wouldn’t be able to process any of this as normal,,
@@flyingcacoon3713 she's just mentioning that Indians might find this really odd that's it.
and also finding the auspicious day involves around where Saturn is where Jupiter is etc.
It's incredible how planets play a role in a marriage date, hahaha.
Yeah!! In india we have like a gazillion people at the wedding. That's more of a type we enjoy with our community.
I really like these two…..so warm so gentle and so informative.
Congrats brother! I remember getting married in Okinawa. I didn't realize that as soon as our paperwork was accepted we were married officially. I remember they handed us back the signed docs and said congrats. I was so caught off guard at how fast it was that when they took my wife's phone to take a picture for us she still had the cat ears filter on her phone camera lol.
Thank you everyone for all of the love in the comments!!! Love sharing these experiences with you. If you want to see my Marriage Proposal here's the video - ua-cam.com/video/5EWHg_p8gEk/v-deo.html

Paolo fromTOKYO congrats dude! Happy for ya seriously! You are a great guy and deserve the best!
Congratulations to both of you!
I really love the channel, it's very kind hearted and instructive.
Best of wishes from Croatia.
I'm your new subscriber here from Philippines🇵🇭 and I am so glad I found this channel.I just love watching couples who got married to a foreigner or in japanese language, it's called 国際結婚 like my husband and I.Although, we've been married for 25yrs now but I know there is still a lot of things to learn from you guys.Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas🙏❤
Your wife can speak English with US slang really damn good. A rare sight to see Japanese speak English. Congratulations btw guys ✌🏼
LMAO we're not all ESL people...surprise! We know the slangs, grammar, etc. of arguably the easiest language to learn.
Waiting to marry in Japan is like waiting at the DMV
Its the same most places I believe. Weddings with vows and whatnot are ceremonial, they're celebrations.
It's the same in the United States isn't it? You have to go to your city's town hall and fill out your paper work there. The ceremony at a church isn't anything legally binding I think.
My wife and I did just about the same thing you guys did. We went to Idaho where we could get married that day and took her mom and mine and BAM married 2 years now, no wedding debt and happier than we ever thought we would be. Save your money and party in celebration after.
“We’re married yes!?” Straight up actually gonna be me. No ceremony
"Guess we're getting married on a nothing day." LOL
i love how you showed this part of the marriage/wedding. what others usually show is the glamour and the whole ceremony but you guys showed the practical part of it: registration and your planning for the ceremony and i like that :) thanks for sharing this and (quite late but) congrats! and now you guys will soon have a baby!
Getting married and renting a car feels the same in Japan
It makes it actually easier for introverts to survive in Japan. I hate big weddings and they give me pressure when I have to get married in the future.
@@limwowo5902 is it hard to have a small wedding or a court house wedding where you are from?

First Paolo, Congratulations on your recent marriage! I'm glad to have found your channel. My daughter and I will be going to Japan in the next year or so (after the olympics!) and I've just watched a number of your videos. You answered a ton of questions I had and I look forward to learning more. It's rather quite funny as I'm much much older than you, but your our styles are somewhat similar. We especially love your take on the "big" wedding versus taking a trip or celebrating another life experience. I wish you and Maiko a wonderful marriage and keep those videos coming!!!
@@animalkaiserina4950 tell me about it. I am now turning it into Graduation trip for me and my daughter. just more pent up travel plans, but one we are still looking forward to!
I love how logical and down to earth this process is for the both of you

Traditionally in the US (not so much anymore) the bride's family paid for the wedding, because like you said the groom's family will be taking care of the bride. If you go way back they bride's family gave money, property or valuable items to the groom's family, it was called the bride price or dowry. In addition way back a bride also prepared a lot of household items to bring with her. Linens, clothing and things and they were often in a special trunk. The groom's family pays for the wedding ceremony rehearsal dinner and groomsmen's clothing rental. Another crazy custom: women buy their wedding clothes and men rent them. Then registration: the couple will visit different stores to make a list of the things they want. Like we registered at a jewelry store for fancy dishes. Lots of people today will register at Target or even a hardware store. It's helpful because then you don't get 4 toasters. Also a lot of people are getting married when they already have a house set up, so they don't even need a toaster. Like my sister wanted a nice cutting board. Not every guest will use the list, you could give something unique like art. Also a lot of people give money or gift cards.
We’re both getting married! together! ❤ The little voice crack is adorable. So happy for y’all even though this was a few years ago.
This is a late congratulations but it is from the heart, I just discovered your channel and I am so glad, I love the everyday life videos and I think you guys are the cutest couple! You make me feel closer to Japan even though I live in NYC. Thank you for all of your videos and I wish you both so much happiness in your newlywed lives!

Thank you very much publisher , your time and insight are inspiring and helpful.Good luck in marriage and life
U guys make a wonderful couple. Thank you for teaching me about japanese customs and traditions!! 😃
I was shocked to hear that the guest were expected to pay roughly $300. I’ve only gone to one Japanese wedding. It was my Japanese bestie... she got married in Nagoya, Japan her hometown. I traveled there by bullet train.. which was pretty awesome. I was invited to the ceremony and the reception...her husband is Chilean and the ceremony was in traditional Japanese kimono garb held at a shrine. It was sooo awesome to see. For the reception they changed into a tux and wedding gown. I was very surprised to see gifts for the guests at the tables. As the night ended my friend and her husband was thanking everyone for attending and gave envelopes to the departing guests... my envelope had 10,000¥!!! I was floored! She said she knew I came a long way from Yokosuka and she wanted to help with my fare. I thought that was very sweet and different that the guests were given gifts. Thanx for sharing your marriage experience. I share your videos all the time, and miss Japan soooo much.
Congratulations man! All the best to yourself and Maiko for a lifetime of health and happiness together.
Interesting. Congrats guys! I like the background music :)
Smart man...make it an easy date to remember...good try!...I wrote this at the beginning then heard your comment about marrying on Christmas makes it easy to remember...love it!

In Jordan, people, either from family members or friends, give the grooms %50 up to %75 of what they've paid for wedding costs to help them start up their journey - sometime, the grooms will get more than what they've paid, or at least what they've paid.
The act of giving in Jordan is called Nakoota "نقوطة" which is derived from Nok'ta "نقطة" which means a drop of water, in the sense that this will help nourish the seed between the newly wed lovers.
Congrats, and I wish you guys all the best. 🌹
Guy on the counter: You two are now married

Congrats on the marriage 🥳
Congratulations ! Skip the wedding to much stress. We did not have one and were still together 26 years.
agreed, for the cost of a wedding you can buy a car lol... I think im just gonna invite my closest family and friends, make a buffet myself (chef) buy tons of vodka and get wasted with my wife, who hopefully is gonna be okay with it :D
A wedding is a momentous occasion so most would want to splurge money.
Congratulations from New Zealand, you guys look like a nice couple, and all the best for the future.
This is weird but UA-cam recommended me this on your wedding!
Happy 2 year anniversary!

kinda bum that in my country, marriage is kinda a big deal so there's soooo many documents, preparations, even agreements from both of the parents side (they need to sign, so if they not agree to this, well ya, it'll be hard)
Congratulations. I just discovered your channel. I am really enjoyed the glimpses of Japanese people and their lives.
That’s great! So happy for you both.
I love this channel and watch it all the time. I’ve told many of my friends about it.
I got married on Valentine’s Day. I think she had a hidden agenda. Meh, been married coming up on 12 years, still the best thing that’s ever happened to me
I am from India and marriage ceremony goes on for around a week here. So u don't have to be like "that's all? Yay, we are married now" XD
Wife’s family pays for the wedding, husband’s family pays for the honey moon. But depending on financial situation, it determines how things play out from there.
Congrats! Maiko seems like a great lady!
I’m also an American and I’ve been married to a Japanese lady for 13 years. We didn’t even have a ceremony because we were too busy at the time.
When you register for a gifts in the US, you just go to the shop(s) and and pick gifts that you would want. Some stores give you a scanner to scan bar codes. Then the shop list everything. You then tell your guest where you registered and the shop will give them the list of things the couple requested
Congrats man. Enjoy your videos. Sorry I’m late to say congratulations, I’ve just recently become a fan and subscriber.
This helped me with my anthropology assignment in college. Thank you!
Congratulations on your marriage, Paolo and Maiko! You two are an adorable couple! I'm a new subscriber from Indonesia. Indonesia is very culturally diverse and there are so many different ways of getting married and holding wedding ceremonies. Intercultural marriages are also quite common, so sometimes a wedding ceremony is a combination of two different cultures, or it can also be held twice in two different cultural ways! I'm a Muslim Javanese Indonesian; for a Muslim from Java, marriage is usually a religious affair first (first thing to do is to register at a local Office of Religious Affairs), and a cultural affair later, or sometimes (as in my case) both happened at the same time. It is not uncommon for an Indonesian couple to have their matrimony (typically officiated by an Islamic wedding officiant) and wedding reception in one same morning. Usually, the bride's parents are responsible for both marriage administration and about 50-70% of funding of wedding ceremony. The groom (or the groom's family) contributes to the rest of the funds.
Thanks for sharing your culture Sandya Maulana! It's quite interesting.
The video is so cool, like a conversation with your friends.
Belated wishes: Congrats to both of you and happy married life

Congratulations, Maiko & Paolo! We wish you a marriage full of love and laughter. After dating 13 years, my wife and I got married in 2017. We’re an older couple, we live Los Angeles, she’s Chinese and I’m Filipino. It is common here for the couple to provide guests a wedding registry (specific stores), but we told our guests we don’t want any gifts. Of our 80 guests, most were relatives and only our closest friends were invited - to our surprise, everyone gave us cash gifts ($100 per person, some significantly more). We paid for the entire wedding ourselves, but if we were in our 20s, I think we would have accepted help from our parents on both sides. We love seeing your videos, which helped us plan our 2016 and 2018 trips to Japan. If you have a wedding ceremony and it’s early October, please invite us, we’ll be there! CONGRATS, again!
Congratulations Guys ! & thanks for the valuable infos :D
Congratulation. I've just checked UA-cam video and end up checking your video about daily life of some people and found this... CONGRATS FOR YOUR NEW LIFE, HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY FOREVER AND EVER
this is how I wanna get married, just a civil ceremony, peaceful, happy, simple. THen big party with friends and family after! Also you two are adorable and I wish you both happiness and joy! I hope you do more videos together :)
So interesting! I live in Hawaii and I work in the wedding industry. Our average wedding (with about 200 guests, which is an average "large" wedding here) is at least $50,000. We've had many couples say their budget was $75,000! (¥8,000,000) Our average client is a middle to high class couple in their mid-30s, so they've already been working for at least 10 years. Usually they pay for as much as they can and they do get help from parents. Sometimes relatives "gift" part of the wedding, like "gift" them their photographer.
Here, the "go-to" rule for guests attending a friend's wedding is to "pay for your own dinner." So if the wedding is a dinner at a fancy buffet, you might give around $100 per head. If you are a relative you would probably give much more, but especially if a friend is younger, they might not even give that amount.
In this way, couples usually don't make back the amount that they spend on their wedding, they end up just eating the cost. I think the "$300 per head" rule in Japan is expensive, but that's nice that it helps the wedded couple so much more!!
Oh... So THAT'S how you get married in Japan?!
I think I did that once here in the States. Here, we call it the DMV.
Congrats, you too are super cute together! I hope the best for you!
Such a cool video! I had no idea 9 was bad luck in Japan 😮. I learn something novel and interesting EVERY singe time I watch your videos. In the future I hope you make more *Day in the Life of…”* videos. They are my favorite!
9 doesn't necessarily mean suffering. You have to check out the luck calendar 9 is not always suffering. Just so happen it was bad luck last 1-09-2019.
I got married on April 1st - it was great, I even made "I swear this isn't an April Fools joke" into one of my vows 🤣🤣🤣

2:18: official marriage papers do have Doraemon on the top???? OH MY GOD, Germany is so boring
it's late but.. big congrats m8!
