    Can we just pause to appreciate what an absolute UA-cam genius Takashii is? Seriously. As a viewer who subscribed when he was only at 20k subs in late 2021, I've followed his growth for awhile now. He's at practically 1 mil subs in under 3yrs, he uses no B-roll, no music or SFX (n hence saves on subscriptions), he does very basic video editing which saves time n effort, and doesn't use any copyrighted content at all so no copyright claims. With >170 million views in the last 6 mths, his Adsense revenue must be fantastic. Not to mention sponsorships and affiliate links.
    As for content, yes he used to spend hours looking for interviewees but the content is basically generated from them with some well thought questions from him. Meaning little (if any) time wasted on scripts and storytelling, no studio set-up, no props, no costumes, no website, and very little gear which means low expenses. This is just what I see as an outsider.
    If anyone ever wanted to succeed on UA-cam in one of the most resource efficient ways possible, I would highly recommend them study Takashii's channel. Congrats Takashii! Looking forward to what you've got planned next! 🎉

    Being Japanese mother who raised biracial (African American/Japanese)children in North Carolina, my husband and I had to make sure that our kids were raised in multicultural and diverse environments including schools and neighborhoods. @@dutchylondon In 1990s, people (usually black people) used to tell us that my kids should not identify themselves as 1/2 Japanese due to the 1 blood drop rule you just mentioned. My husband and I didn't pay no attention to those people. We are in the South (= NC), so people were still very closed-minded and believed such an old rule at that time. But for the past 15 years or so, we have not heard anyone say things like that. Time has changed.

    • @dutchylondon
      @dutchylondon Рік тому +7

      @@walkwithmama but do your children themselves identify with being black? you can tell by the friends they keep, their wife/husband normally, political point of views etc. I very rarely see balanced biracial people, tend to lean to one side only. I get the feeling the guy in the video would like his kids to identify as black. both of them speak English to each other so when the child lives in USA she will forget Japanese very quickly anyway. he mentions his family is important but didn't stop to think what about her family in Japan, her parents etc

    • @walkwithmama
      @walkwithmama Рік тому +31

      @@dutchylondon Our children claim both races and ethnicity if asked. They always identify them as biracial or multiracial. They love being black and Japanese. They are comfortable being identified as both races/ethnicity but sometimes people around them are not. So I understand what you are saying. :) If some people would like to raise their child as black instead of biracial, I believe they have the right to do so and I wouldn't judge them for that. :) I was only speaking for my family. Although it was not easy at all, we enjoyed raising them and we are extremely proud of our well-around kids.

      @MrBorington Рік тому +56

      Even before the COVID, the Japanese wear face mask when they don’t feel well, afraid of spread illness to others, basically being considerate. And it could be due to the pollen season over there too.
      You may say why don’t they stay home. The work culture in Japan is you try not to take sick leave, because your coworkers will have to do your stuff when they are busy enough already.

    • @ideus3718
      @ideus3718 Рік тому +23

      @須崎 because in Japan, it’s well ingrained in the culture to wear a face mask if you feel unwell and are out in public. It’s literally just consideration for the people around you, and minimising the risk of spreading a cold or illness to others unnecessarily.

But she was the sweetest. I always wondered how it was for her growing up. I don’t think it was too bad because we were all very welcoming of her. the last time i saw her was 13 years ago when we were teenagers and i was walking to the bank and she quickly recognized me and greeted me. i hope she’s doing okay.

      I agree, but parents should also be careful not to project their own experiences onto their children or assume that because a country is homogenous she will have problems . It's good that they are aware of issues that may arise, but also let the child be their own person and have their own experiences. Guess what I'm trying to say is don't make a problem out of something that might never happen, but intervene if it does. Some biracial kids in Japan never get bullied, feel japanese and have japanese friends, while others have a different experience. Being multicultural will bring about some identity "crisis" no matter where you live.

Now there are parallel societies, crime, clan structures of foreginers into the highest institutions and the more there are of them, the more demanding they become which in turn eradicates indigenous cultures, archtectures and peoples. There has to be a law that tells these people to get back home once Japan is on route to having stable birth rates. There has to be immediate action taken. I don't want Japan, for the sake of the Japanese, their culture and their country to end up like many parts of America, Europe and Germany specifically. Keep it up!

    5:25 I greatly disagree with that opinion on Japan. He speaks like homogeneity is a bad thing. It comes off as not in touch with Japan and spreading a foreign idiology for personal reasons.
    BTW its not because he's black. So dont reply to me with racial slurs and crap like that.

      I agree, anyone making this a thing cause hes black is being disingenuous and dont want to have a genuine discussion. If im visiting/living in another country i should be prepare to follow whatever rules are set in stone for such country. I think you can have some sort of diversity as long as it doesn't overtake the homogeneity of the country. IMO if people were so worried about diversity they should just stay in america lol.

    Japan can be very, "don't stand out" and "do as everyone else does without question" from a cultural standpoint.
    Here in Boston, MA, there's a ton of Chinese people. The state has one of the largest populations of Chinese people in the country. There's a good amount of blasians as well. It's a great thing for different cultures to experience and learn from each other.

    Takashii-san, thank you so very much for this video! I am in a similar position as this couple: African-American married to a Japanese woman with 2 kids that will be moving to Japan very soon (temporarily). As you've been told many times over already, this was a GREAT interview with the family being so open, honest and forward. We've been to Japan many times, but I have never lived there, and with my daughters being bi-racial, there have obviously been many concerns that have crossed our minds. Again, I appreciate seeing things through this greatly articulated perspective. I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to more great content! Arigatou gozaimasu!

    Interesting interview even though some have commented that she's technically American, yet their challenges remain within the microcosm of Japanese society/culture. I'm Chinese and my wife is Filipina/Japanese and we live in Canada. We traveled to Japan several times and my sister in law just moved from Japan. Another issue that can arise with foreign mixed couples is that the foreign man, as an example, is not part of the "formula" when combined with their child and mother. Child + Mother might = 1 + 2 but the father will be 0. So this kind of situation has lead to those issues of Japanese moms taking the child back to Japan and the father has no say in terms or custody rights etc. We met an American dad who was trying to find his child back in Japan and we heard once he did, he had no rights to fight for custody for the child. We met an organization that was representing such parents a few years ago so I hope they have made some progress on behalf of such foreign parents. Asian Boss recently did a video of a similar case in Korea.

  • @Ekam-Sat

    From personal experience (with exceptions, of course), Japanese women are often considered highly attractive to Western men. However, it can be challenging for Western men to be with a Japanese woman in the long run, as Western men typically desire more affection in both emotional and physical forms, such as hand-holding, hugging, and general intimacy. This can become an issue in relationships with Japanese women, especially after marriage or having children, which contributes to the higher than usual prevalence of sexless marriages in Japan which is a killer for most Western men.
    Western men may in the beginning of the relationship not realize that they are usually more expressive in showing affection because they are so deeply smitten/attracted to their partner. Personally, I also appreciate mutual words of affirmation, but Japanese women, in general, tend to offer fewer compliments (or usually none) which may also feel awkward for men.
    There's also a notable difference in communication styles between Western cultures and Japan. I hail from Western Europe, where open communication and freely expressing emotions are common, which is quite different from the cultural norm in Japan. It's often customary in Japan to keep emotions in check and avoid expressing them until a point where they might explode. What we in the West might perceive as giving someone the silent treatment appears to be very common from what I experienced.
    Western people are sometimes seen as more direct, and this straightforwardness can be seen as negative by some in Japan. However, many Westerners value honesty and direct communication over suppressing emotions and building resentment.
    Also; I grew up with Christian ideals of love and forgiveness, which seems foreign in a Japanese context. My ex once mentioned that these values are rooted in Christianity and don't necessarily apply to her culture. I've observed that Japanese people often keep their emotions inside to maintain 'wa' (harmony) until one day they might reach a breaking point and then there's no way going back.
    It's important to remember that every person is unique, and these are just general observations based on personal experience. While having an appreciation for a different culture and an admiration for their beauty, it doesn't guarantee a perfect long-term fit in a relationship. It's crucial to evaluate your relationship objectively, especially before considering marriage. Being deeply infatuated can sometimes cloud your judgment.
    In my case, I too over-the-top "smitten" with my Japanese girlfriend so quickly got married, spent over 20 years in the relationship, and eventually divorced because I was suffering internally due to a complete lack of affection, compliments, physical intimacy, and sex from her part.
    However, I am grateful for the beautiful children that came from that union.
    I wish everyone the best of luck in life and love.

    This guy is awesome. I love his honest view about the racial/xenophobic and career problems which plague Japan. Even if you don’t consider insane issues like mandatory fax machines and family inkan/hanko, Japan’s “unique situation” is an aging, and (frankly) legacy economy that is burdened by a society that sees any hint of western influence as dangerous or disruptive. Truly a nation in desperate need of reform. Tradition and culture are worth protecting, so “preserve” them in a museum. Don’t pretend that stifling “outsiders” or suffocating your youth’s economic future is noble. ✌🏻🇯🇵
