It’s strange that we enjoy the race and then are basically told that we weren’t supposed to because of the aero dependent package. Xfinity is considered less aero dependent so I guess that’s why the leader was able to get way out in front on Saturday? I enjoyed both of the races though.
Tyler Reddick had an opportunity to gain a bunch of points over the cutline this race especially after Austin Dillon wrecked, but screwed over himself because of over-aggressive driving. #NASCAR
That's Reddick's biggest flaw as a driver. He lacks situational awareness. A 10th place run was better for him in the long run, not going for broke into the top 5. He needs to get that coached into him
I saw the Austin Dillion crash happen right in front of me I was there in person from my seat it looked like he flipped. When he first hit the wall had to be just 2-10 seats away from me
I been watching NASCAR since the 1960's and I think todays race was more entertaining than many have been in the last few years. I do believe that NASCAR should have more 1.5 mile track races and just keep one race at tracks 2 or more miles long.
I completely agree with the great outside look at this race. I tried saying this under the famous iceberg poll and people said it was great, so much passing. When in reality there was like no passing and they glorified this race wayyyy too much
My big problem with this style of racing is that it looks fantastic for all my friends and family that watched the race as well, but for me, as a former racer, this racing SUCKS and I find completely unenjoyable and boring. There is nothing worse than dirty air and holding the throttle to the floor from a driver's perspective. I know A LOT of people enjoyed this race, but I almost fell asleep half way through and that hasn't happened in a really long time.
I, like you, would love for Nascar to have many lead changes each segment. However, the fact that the leader can never slow down pace because the next guy was breathing down his neck was very satisfying. I rather see that than the 7sec gap for second.
I attended almost every Cup race at MIS form 1974-2019. This was the closest racing they have ever had there. We sat through many snoozefests with one car dominating all day. We'll see how the next-gen car races here, but maybe they can tweak the package some to reduce the aero dependence for more passing at the front of the field. The #9 team needs to stop shooting themselves in the foot. Failed inspections, bad pit stops, wrong strategy calls have to get fixed if they are going to make it to the championship race again this year.
This was the first race my friend has ever watched on tv. He’s 15 years old and previously hated Nascar for no reason. He said it was worth his time and he’d watch with me again next week, but he had 2 complaints. He was upset that Larson, Byron, Elliott, Busch, or Hamlin didn’t win. He felt it was dumb that they all deserved to win and none of them did. He was also frustrated that the first 10 laps after a caution were pretty good and then things got dull. Even he after about an hour of questioning began to understand the air issue. He found the strategy intriguing and the the Keselowski/Dillion wreck
Just think of how good this race would have been if the whole "air cushion" pushing the leader wasn't so big. All the leader had to do is cut across the nose of 2nd place car in the turn to slow the 2nd place down. It was better than a lot of races we've seen. So close to being a really good race.

Btw there were 6 passes under green for the lead today.. I’m sorry but it’s kind of frustrating how many people seemingly only look for negatives even with great races
Dude how can you say flawed id say i was expecting much out of this honestly it was a great race it wasn’t a Larson show we had different winners for each stage I’m a chase Elliot fan but I was happy to see different leader not with the car owner Rick Hendrick and it was a competive race as well compared to some of the other races this season I give A+
3:44 If the Hendrick teammates weren’t up front and working together, you would’ve seen more lead changes. This was a very important bit of context that you left out. *Lead changes do not make or break a race.* there was still passing throughout the field; comers and goers, strategy, etc. This year’s Michigan race had 3,608 green flag passes, compared to 1,925 in 2017 and 2,709 in 2014 I honestly don’t understand your criticism, as this was one of the top races of the year. Do you want to grow the sport or not? Because this race helped grow the sport, as you said. I would take this over a strung-out race like the ones with the 750/900 package.
There wasn’t anything else really good about it. I literally kept going back and forth between the race and something else I was watching it was that boring. He’s allowed to judge . It’s his opinion. Outside of the Dillon incident there was nothing too good about it
@@baileyreichert6138 while the lead was relatively easy to keep, the battles throughout the field were plentiful and were shown well on the broadcast. It kept me entertained, something that I can’t say about certain other races this year.
I feel like a large part of why there weren't many green flag passes for the lead is because there were teammates running 1-2 most of the race. HMS dominated most of this race, and the drivers were more concerned building a gap between 3rd place than they were passing for the lead - Kyle Larson even said at one point he wouldn't try to pass. Dillon was clear multiple times and just didn't make the move - the opportunity to pass for the lead was there, if the drivers wanted to take it.
I am saying this from someone who was at the MIS: I can say this is the best Michigan race I have been to. I was listening to the radios and heard drivers having trouble with dirty. This brings up your point that there were not many passes under green flag, which is true, however the restarts made up for. Austin Dillon's wreck was interesting to see because it was all right in front of us. I also believe that I now know that stages make the racing better as this was the first stage race I had been to. The rain at the track never got any more than sprinkle and it never really rained. In my opinion, NASCAR didn't need to throw the yellow, but it could have been worse in other areas of the track, and the drops were fairly large, so I hold nothing against NASCAR. The ending was for sure exciting and I enjoyed the race.
that is why eric did not like it, he has never seen real NASCAR racing like the old days, Those real stock cars raced way better then these so stock cars of today
I was at the race and it seemed the top 8 guys were basically identical speed wise for the majority of a run. For that long green flag run when Elliot lead about every lap, I wasn't sure if it was dirty air holding Larson and Hamlin back or if they were that equal, but after the pit stops Larson passed Elliot, but couldn't get much further that a second or so ahead. Seems without much off throttle time, guys were almost too equal. Hard to tell who truly had the best car
One thing I love about Michigan is at 2 miles the back stretch is so long and guys load up 1 & 2 and just shoot like a rocket down the back on a huge run flying past a couple cars and wrestle the car into 3 trying to hold on to their momentum. Definitely was better racing 10 years ago but glad to still see some of it in this one.
I sat and watched this race with two friends who are new to NASCAR, and we had a very fun time! I've watched NASCAR since Daytona '03, and I understand the aero issues are not how we really want racing to be. However, I was on the edge of my seat those last ten laps, not knowing who would win--and that's exciting! Passing for the lead WAS possible, but the drivers were just playing aero chess. Not ideal, yes! But let's take a good exciting race at Michigan and be happy. We haven't had such a close race there that I can recall. 65% is wrong.
This was one of the better 550 HP races. A lot better than the 600, Pocono, or Kansas earlier this year. It’s a car issue more importantly.. Doesn’t matter what package you have if the car sucks.
Even Blaney in his interview after the win said he hates to race this way. NASCAR technology has come so far in recent years but maybe not for the better
I missed the last half of the race because my neighbor three houses down had a house fire and it killed two people. I don’t know them but I feel bad for them two others were burned badly and taken to the hospital
@@mustpotato41 what was happening more though was drivers were trying to hook up and draft together so of course in the middle of the race you are gonna have no passing for the lead when 2 HMS cars are trying to work together. The end of the race everyone was more for themselves and so you didn’t see that big hookup that you did earlier
Kinda surprised no Truex mention. Got in trouble super early and finished 10th after falling to 33rd. Also Ryan Blaney=Austin Dillon almost all of their cup wins are by pure luck .
I was fortunate enough to watch the race in person today. This was the best race I have seen at Michigan in several years. The other fans around me primarily cheered for the #9 and the #5. Definitely looking forward to going back next year. Also looking forward to Bristol next month.
It kinda sucks how Briscoe was all set to have a great top 5 day, then for no reason forgets how to use a steering wheel with like 4 to go and just plows into the rear of Kurt Busch coming out of 2. I was in the stands coming out of 4 and could clearly see it coming and he made no attempt to dodge him. Dude then drops like a rock the next 2 laps and settles in 11th
This race is a race I will admit, I was perfectly okay with looking at it surface deep. I know how that package is and I just wanted to enjoy the race and so that's what I did.
At 42 years old I've always thought that Michigan was the worst race of the year. Usually fuel mileage or rain-shortened. This was by far the best Michigan race ever as far as passing leaders drivers coming and going. I don't know if I like this package everywhere but it definitely made Michigan better
In 1981 one of the Michigan races had 65 lead changes. I think it’s 100% possible to have close racing and the ability to pass for the lead under competitive conditions. Fans are so stuck on Gen 4, if NASCAR could just look at speedway racing from 1978-1982, we had it all. Close racing and the ability to slingshot by the leader. We could maybe even keep the package as is if the drivers had an effective push to pass button.
I agree with your assessment. I walked away thinking it was a great race, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that there was very little racing 5 laps after the restarts.
Been watching NASCAR for 2 seasons now, and aside from the Bristol dirt race, that was one of the most exciting, if not most exciting races I've enjoyed so far. Though I also see your point about dirty air. Reminded me of Kansas with Harvick completely unable to get around Logano. You might be right in saying a lack of lead changes traded for such a thrilling race might be the way they go. For me, it was more Dillon's fault, coming up the track like that. What a shock though. That's a crash that I feel would have definitely killed someone pre Dale Sr. Glad he's okay. Anyway, always enjoy your takes. Keep it up.

Then he pit after stage two even though he took 4 tires under green and would have restarted 2nd if he stayed out and the brodcast didn't seem to find this weird
EXACTLY
anybody know why they made that call for the two left sides during that caution? I thought theyd take right sides only for the last stop, but I was wrong
Yeah I was wondering what was going. He should have stayed out. He had the car and was the only driver to pass the leader under green that wasn't a restart or green flag pit stops, and he did it twice.
Because his crew chief is always screwing him over Chase had a good shot to win that race until his crew chief screwed up again
@@gagemcpherson4454 While I don't disagree that Gustafson makes bad stratagy calls, I don't think that was a planned pit stop. I think they either had a loose tire or some other reason to pit there otherwise they would have taken 2 tires under green like the Gibbs drivers
It’s strange that we enjoy the race and then are basically told that we weren’t supposed to because of the aero dependent package. Xfinity is considered less aero dependent so I guess that’s why the leader was able to get way out in front on Saturday? I enjoyed both of the races though.
I love it. Very happy the 18 pushed the 12 so well at the end.
Tyler Reddick had an opportunity to gain a bunch of points over the cutline this race especially after Austin Dillon wrecked, but screwed over himself because of over-aggressive driving. #NASCAR
First race I ever seen Austin Dillon really race in he get a win when it’s just handed to him
That's Reddick's biggest flaw as a driver. He lacks situational awareness. A 10th place run was better for him in the long run, not going for broke into the top 5. He needs to get that coached into him
i thought this was one of the best races of the year! 90 on the groovy gauge for me!
I was routing for DiBenedetto to win and I want him to win Daytona, he has been great these past few weeks
When in reality there was like no passing and they glorified this race wayyyy too much
It was a very good race. Good to see the cars back on an oval. I know the air wasn't the best but I did enjoy the 5 cars racing together up front.
I loved how Blaney blocked during the final Laps. Great Job!
The Xfinity race was much more fun than the Cup race that happened a day later.
Oh boy he’s gonna love next race
make sure he watches daytona… lol he’s gonna have fun
@@torak_34 for sure, it times up well
@@ssigeon yeah, his brain might not be able to handle the greatness
Just think of how good this race would have been if the whole "air cushion" pushing the leader wasn't so big. All the leader had to do is cut across the nose of 2nd place car in the turn to slow the 2nd place down. It was better than a lot of races we've seen. So close to being a really good race.
That’s called blocking
@@NinjaXavier2 lol blocking was a good bit different before this aero package.
This was a great race with an amazing finish, and I’m by no means a new fan of NASACR.
Same ikr! Can people stop complaining about a race being perfect cause it will never be.
I’m no new fan either and I loved the race. I’ll take dirty air over the leader jumping out to a 3+ seconds lead any day

I hate how Blaney won with the dirty air it sucks that hen can win at a non plate track because the cars are so slow and all you need is a ok car to keep up with the leaders and get lucky with the restarts and win with dirty fucking air Daytona and talledaga are good because you can fucking pass for the lead nascar needs to fix this stupid package and let the drivers race and drive the cars the 4 plate races are good but we can't have this shitty excuse for pake racing at a track any bigger than 1.5 miles it bullshit that nascar says this is good
Btw there were 6 passes under green for the lead today.. I’m sorry but it’s kind of frustrating how many people seemingly only look for negatives even with great races
Btw this doesn’t count green flag pit stops etc.. 6 legit passes on track but okay
Brad better keep an eye out for Richard Childress 👀🥊🥊
Hold my watch
Dillon will pull an Edwards on Keslowski.
Dude how can you say flawed id say i was expecting much out of this honestly it was a great race it wasn’t a Larson show we had different winners for each stage I’m a chase Elliot fan but I was happy to see different leader not with the car owner Rick Hendrick and it was a competive race as well compared to some of the other races this season I give A+
Not being able to pass the leader is nowhere near competetive
3:44 If the Hendrick teammates weren’t up front and working together, you would’ve seen more lead changes. This was a very important bit of context that you left out.
*Lead changes do not make or break a race.*
there was still passing throughout the field; comers and goers, strategy, etc. This year’s Michigan race had 3,608 green flag passes, compared to 1,925 in 2017 and 2,709 in 2014
I honestly don’t understand your criticism, as this was one of the top races of the year.
Top race of the year? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@hacksawjimthuggin7411 he said One of the top races of the year not the Top race of the year idiot.
Michigan has now entered a renaissance.
Hopefully Gen 7 can have good racing at Michigan as well.
Definitely was the best Michigan race I've watched for the Cup Series and I've been watching since 2000
I am saying this from someone who was at the MIS:
I can say this is the best Michigan race I have been to.
This race had a 1970’s and 1980’s Daytona vibe, I liked it.
that is why eric did not like it, he has never seen real NASCAR racing like the old days, Those real stock cars raced way better then these so stock cars of today
This was a very solid race. However it did look like it was legit tough to pass the leader all day
Richard Childress is going to get 2011 Kyle Busch flashbacks when he sees Brad next time.
This race was like Canada, beautiful, welcoming exterior, but if you dig deeper it very quickly reveals some troubling things. I am Canadian.
Austin Moved into Brad and it turned him, glad he is ok.
Why was the 23 on the roof of Wallace's car backwards?
I sat and watched this race with two friends who are new to NASCAR, and we had a very fun time! I've watched NASCAR since Daytona '03, and I understand the aero issues are not how we really want racing to be. However, I was on the edge of my seat those last ten laps, not knowing who would win--and that's exciting! Passing for the lead WAS possible, but the drivers were just playing aero chess. Not ideal, yes! But let's take a good exciting race at Michigan and be happy. We haven't had such a close race there that I can recall. 65% is wrong.
Good job Ryan Blaney he deserved the win!
He’s a good guy!
This was one of the better 550 HP races. A lot better than the 600, Pocono, or Kansas earlier this year. It’s a car issue more importantly.. Doesn’t matter what package you have if the car sucks.
Pocono was amazing this year
This year’s Michigan race had 3,608 green flag passes, compared to 1,925 in 2017 and 2,709 in 2014
Even Blaney in his interview after the win said he hates to race this way. NASCAR technology has come so far in recent years but maybe not for the better
I missed the last half of the race because my neighbor three houses down had a house fire and it killed two people. I don’t know them but I feel bad for them two others were burned badly and taken to the hospital
Dirty air didn’t seam as big of a factor today because the track had more than 2 lanes
Uh yah dirty was a bigger problem than it looked like, but it wasn’t bad except for the lead
The resin really helped in my opinion
Surprised that Blaney won 2 races this season. Congrats to him
Plus both of those races weren’t luck or a super speedway, so it’s looking good for blaney

Blaneys gotta have one of the weirdest race win resumes I’ve seen
Had a great day at the track amazing race hope we never loose michigan for good would be sad to see it go
12:29 I was there and It was sprinkling but I think they could’ve kept it green
Okay but think about NH lmao
This race is a race I will admit, I was perfectly okay with looking at it surface deep. I know how that package is and I just wanted to enjoy the race and so that's what I did.
Just a great race. The end was amazing
Yup i guess eric dose not what real good racing is
nascar fans really are negative
True
We could maybe even keep the package as is if the drivers had an effective push to pass button.
this was one hell of a race definitely
I remember a couple more passes for the lead then u listed put it was close but not very competitive
I really hate being a Dillon fan sometimes, but it is what it is, hopefully he can squeeze in a win at Daytona or top 5
3:40, this race had 20 lead changes which is much more than all the races in 2017 and 2018 with the low down force package
Under green
Sure but most of those came either during green flag pit stop cycles or on restarts.

Can we see more of that windshield you hung up? That looks cool!
Keep it up.
