Hi from Cape Town South Africa. I just bought your book and WOW is all I can say. It has turned everything I thought I knew on it's head! I'm 69 years old and have been on every diet known to man, including Keto. Nothing really lasted, particularly because it excluded my favourite foods, namely carbs. I'd lose some weight and pick it all up again. I have Type 2 diabetes and was told to follow a low carb diet - hell!! I started following your plan yesterday and am so excited to see the results. THANK YOU for all your work and research in providing this amazing information. I love cooking and can't wait to try out all your recipes.
I suffered from metabolic syndrome (obesity, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and high blood sugar). I went whole food plant based no sugar oil or salt and I lost 65 pounds, all my conditions greatly improved, my gums stopped bleeding, and erections and energy returned. I used to have an appetite that was never satisfied; whole foods cured it. I no longer use a sleep apnea machine. Finally, the food is cheap-Beans, lentils, rice, potatoes and seasonal apples. I also save money by not having to buy pills and visit the Doctor. I am thankful to all the vegans who suffered attacks to reveal the truth to me.
It was 18 months from going vegan to the point where I no longer felt that my metabolism was off. After the first six months my A1c was back in the normal range, but it was another year before normal eating maintained my weight and overeating and only overeating led to weight gain. I was relieved to finally not have the sudden 5 pound unexplainable weight gain when I seemed to have eaten nothing…
Love your new book Dr. Barnard; thank you for all you do. Arrived days ago just as Amazon promised. Can’t wait to dazzle my family w/ these yummy healthy recipes. 🌱🕊💚
I tried to blame a condition on my metabolism once back in 1996 and got burnt hard. Mitochondria don't eff around; true story though, mitochondria LOVE plants!
You can buy fresh seasoned seaweed (black brown color( in a plastic rectangular container at Chinese or Korean grocery stores, and small black seasoned Hijiki seaweeds at Japanese grocery stores. All ready to eat. Lasts ni more than 3-4 days.
Hi, again. What I've found. The GLUT4 transport mechanism allows glucose to move into muscle cells in response to both insulin and exercise. So, normal body movement will allow glucose into the cell. Something else, which I did not know, is that a lot of body tissues do not need require insulin to function(ua-cam.com/video/G6RWa2jmODo/v-deo.html).
You have to wait a few hours after it comes out to turn on the captions while watching on UA-cam. The captions are working now for this episode on UA-cam.
I tap on the video, and a small box with CC in it appears in the upper right corner. I tap on that box and it adds captions if they were included as an option by the video creator. Not all videos on UA-cam have a caption option. I hope this proves helpful for you.😊
I am very sorry to hear that. I too have ME, but since losing weight on a WFPB way of eating at least I've achieved my desired weight, but ME has remained and stress is preventing any improvement. I too stopped exercising, but must get back into it, as my posture is really suffering. Try to rest and sleep well and feed yourself well. Take care and best wishes from London, Lulu
Is Dr Barnard's new Power Foods book available in Europe? I keep checking Amazon (in Germany and Netherlands), and it's not on there, except from some dodgy looking resellers, and I'd rather not buy from them.
Our society is sick, when a pop star can achieve a billion views and some of the most important issues fail to reach a million. The matrix people are like robots that don't have a mind of their own. No wonder the world is f---k messed up
I have been on a diet of lentils, vegs and follow the intermittent fasting regime still sugar remains above 400. I dont take any medicines as it affected my kidneys earlier.
@@vidyasagarkumar2650I would see a gastrointestinal doctor and a nutritionist if you are suffering from being underweight. Being underweight can be more harmful than being overweight.
You probably have no idea what a Healthy person looks like 😂 I'm sure everyone in your life is likely quietly sick inside yet you'll see a puffy face and say they're Healthy "looking". Amazing 👏
I easily can eat 6 apples over the day when they're fresh and crisp. Breastfeeding can be extremely painfull, raw nipples, mastitis are just two of many very painful condition. On this topic I find Dr Barnard patronizing and mainsplaining. Yeah, breast is good, a fed baby is best
He actually said to find LeLeche or something similar that can help you learn what to do and how to help with those things. He also said breast feeding is best if at all possible, and in some cases it isn't. I think you may just be too close to the subject to willingly HEAR him properly. I had many issues 30 ears ago so I understand your pain, but he wasn't speaking down or mansplaining.
@@SheilaMiller-n6m He spoke of light discomfort, but a mastitis or raw nipples are excruciating painful. Just accept that in my eyes that was not his finest moment as a doctor.
So scared to start this diet as a diabetic. Well going to dive in and give it a try, Bought the books and listening on Audible. Fingers crossed. Beans and carbs?
@@kimphillips4489 are you doing any fitness with it. I've heard mixed reviews about those semiglutides. It's RN hospital workers using it and sharing their results and stories like clockwork. But I hope to never forget the advice of a nurse that helped me well over 10 years ago.
Good luck, you are making the right decision based on evidence. If I was in your situation I would change over a period of time especially if you aren't used to a high fibre diet, you will get bloating and no matter what anyone says you will fart more into the future.

I got my Power Foods Diet book yesterday, made the Bean balls today. So good! Love Dr. Barnard. So excited about his new book ❤️

Sounds really ❤❤❤❤
I'm glad to hear Neal say nice things about my friends, the apples! 🥰🍎

My book is coming Friday! Excited 😊
All the motivation I needed was in this episode for getting back to strength training! Already WFPB for 6 years but started to plateau. Thank youuuu
Got my book today and loving reading it even more than the recipes!
Good to know Doc, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you ❤
I was convinced I was cursed with a “big appetite”. No. It was the processed food I was eating. I have a normal appetite.
This ^
Good point.
Just got his new book. Cant wait to make some recipes!!
Love the new book.
I tried to blame a condition on my metabolism once back in 1996 and got burnt hard. Mitochondria don't eff around; true story though, mitochondria LOVE plants!
Then people blame it on their thyroid instead of fixing the food
Curious about turmeric (and need to add black pepper to make bio available?)
Pregos and anyone else can indeed eat as much food as they want. It has to be food though, which animal protein and concentrated fat are not.
Got my book and also love the recipes. Easy and tasty.
Received my book yesterday, am looking forward to trying the recipes ❤
Great Video!
super important - because some people say changing one's diet can destroy their metabolism forever - and is a reason why some people don't go vegan.

So it doesn't require cooking or heating
I can enjoy nori. Hijiki salad is very common in Japan and it's pretty nice.
Ordered the book!

Any other ideas for iron except spinach? I'm anemic, but spinach gives me issues from the oxalates.
@physiciansCommittee Can you take a capsaicin supplement? I can't tolerate anything hot or spicy.
When is avocado season? What the shell of the avocado called?
How do the muscle cells function if there's no glucose getting in cuz of all the fat in there?
I am a new diabetic and I asked myself the same question. Now, I wonder how to get it answered.

Luv to hear that a little juice 🥤 is okay. Also, appreciate those fruit snacks are best if you wish. 😋 🍌🍎🍌🍎🍌🍊
How about dried salted seaweed? Is that a good source of iodine?
I'll never forget my sister's reaction to my continued love of orange juice as a young adult: "I'd rather eat my calories than drink them"
I don't feel a slow metabolism is really that bad - because if it's too fast - you might end up eating too much
I wish there were captions❤ not only do I hear better I learn better if I see it written.

Curious to hear about oxalates (I think mostly green leafy plants?) - cook/don't cook?

How do you boost the metabolism without having negative effect on sleep?
I had extreme food aversions while pregnant. The two worst, were milk and butter. Still can’t eat them 30 years later. Shudder…
Omega 3 fats help me lose weight during time restricted eating. Maybe just a hunger quencher?

Soda causes kidney damage and tooth decay. Calcium is leached from the bones too. Wonder if all the acid throws off stomach acid balance?
I think that your body’s basal metabolic needs drop SUBSTANTIALLY if you sit at a desk in a temperature controlled office 8-12 hours a day.

Shouldn't we try to slow our metabolism to increase lifespan?
I have to use a blender to eat a teaspoon of cinnamon in a meal. Otherwise, I am coughing up the cinnamon powder later.
Why would anybody want a faster metabolism? Doesn't that just mean you're wearing out faster?
Dr Barnard’s views on HRT in menopause is NOT supported by current science. He needs to read updated studies and stop spreading misinformation.
You mean the science that forced mRna shots😮
I am surprised that alcohol apparently doesn't increase metabolism because it speeds up your heart rate.
Metabolism doesn’t get destroyed it’s a myth
The men in this video does not look very healthy, the older one in particular. I hope the foods help them feel better! 💐
