krika is one of my favorite sets that i HAVENT torn apart when I was a kid, his design was clean, and when I read about his compassion i couldnt help but to feel bad for him
The Mistika had a lot of potential, but at least the villains looked pretty badass Also, my man Krika is the second most tragic character in the Bionicleverse. A Makuta that regretted their turn is amazing, I just wish he was able to be redeemed
The Makuta feeling a little skimpy is an unfortunate result of them going for such skinny, insect-like proportions. I do think they compliment the other Makuta well though, and while I generally prefer the villains being bigger/taller than the heroes, the last 3 were already VERY large, so these kinda balance out these Toa/Makuta teams. These joints can usually survive one use. It's when you try to take them apart and build them again (as many of us did repeatedly with our Bionicle figures back in the day to kill a few minutes) that they give out on you. Just be careful is all I can say. I could see a fair bit of the Nuva's old selves showing in the last wave, but I'm with you on these. Not un-fun to build, but they feel like very different characters. From my understanding, the toys are designed first then a story is written around them, so you could very well claim these figures were never intended to be Tahu and co during the design process, but at this point I'm just speculating. >shrugs

After hearing all about the issues with these parts I'd rather not test the waters. And that's a good note, I didn't consider that the toys could have been made and then the story forced them to who they are...
The Toa were originally meant to be the next form for the Toa Mahri. Also, Lego switched the colors of Gali, and Tahu, like last minute, so Gali supposed to have Tahu Mistika's build(without those claws on the legs, although for Gali they would've worked), and Tahu supposed to have Gali Mistika's build(with a plus Mistika shield-wing piece that Onua, and Bitil had), also Onua supposed to have Mistika claws, and that shield piece on his left shoulder in black.
Onua was such a badass in the comic. He basically handled all 3 Makuta on his own while Tahu and Gali were struggling. This is my favorite version of him.

The Toa survived merely because they were pawns in a master plan set up by Teridax. Everything that happened was *allowed* to happen, and if he deemed it necessary, we would have lost the Nuva VERY early on.
@@D00dman Honestly I think he mostly made his plan up as he went along, adapting and learning with every defeat and challenge to eventually form the "take over big robot" idea. We see in the alt universe where mata nui does die he doesn't have any kind of backup plan.

Wow surprised by the positive review. This era is really where I checked out of Bionicle, after waiting years for the Nuva to return this is what they gave us?! They barely feel like the Nuva at all. It resulted in Glatorian rebooting the franchise which got me back on board with the bright colours taking me back to those early years of Bionicle.
I know these lines got a ton of hate but I think they aged nicely. Sure the characters don't resemble who we know whatsoever but there's still a lot to like here imo
I see a lot of hate for Mistika masks not looking like recognizable continuations of their last iteration, but the same was true for the majority of the Nuva masks as well, and at least the Mistika masks are independently cool looking instead of amorphous oversized blobs.
Gorast was one of the first Bionicle I ever bought with my own money, that an Kongu Inika, so I’ll always have a soft spot for the Mistika, they’re badass

And also, *finally* someone that says something positive about the Mistika! I do feel that they're very cool, and even prestigious, as you said, with these muted colors. It's the perfect tone story-wise for 2008.

I personally think the mistika are great, the only problems are those joints and the fact that the toa doesn't resemble very good the style of Mata/nuva
I finished collecting the Mistika line one day before my birthday (July 27th) and I know everyone have their opinions and I really like them all. Krika is the strongest of the three (although the three of them depends too much on the av-matoran limbs. :/) Honestly I don't understand why people hate on these sets. Outside the reasons that everyone puts, they're pretty okay and cool sets. Love them all! (and I'll take these Toa Nuva over the 02) Welcome back Christian! Looking forward this upcoming weeks! :)
The novel canister set designs continue. God, I loved these guys; they sparked so much creativity for me in terms of what a "toa"-sized character could be, and they added some really awesome molds and color schemes to the rotation! As with the Barraki/Mistika, it's interesting to see this line reviewed before the Phantoka. But I guess that just means we're saving the best for last (in my opinion)!
I hate that the toa mistika don't get proper toa tools. A spinny blade isn't Tahu's style, it's cool that Gali and Onua got weapon attachments to make their blasters unique but they needed melee weapons to go along with them.
Ay, good to see you back. Glad to see you enjoyed the Mistika, def one of my favorites just for the looks, but I’ll be honest was kinda disappointed in the assembly and variety. Like the Makuta, aside from Bitil, used the Av-Matoran limbs for their own, which felt kinda limiting for the posing. For the Toa, it felt like they got lazy in terms of variety. Even in the Phantoka, Lewa had a sword to go with the blaster, Pohatu had his chopper blade things, and Kopaka at least had a bayonet on his blaster. Gali and Onua felt like to same to me since they both ultimately just used their blasters, and Tahu technically as well with the shield being… well, a shield
This was the last group of sets I felt I needed every one of as a kid! A lot of people rag on them, but I always loved the mistika! The toa are all sleek and shiny, smoothed over like aircraft whizzing through the swamp, cutting through the mist. A lot of people complain about Gali especially, but I always loved how her scope and launcher evokes using soapy water pistols to safely stun dragonflies on the wing for capture! I liked to imagine that Tahu helmed the lead, cutting through foliage, while Gali was the sharpshooter, and Onua was much more reckless and in the makutas’ faces with his shots, hence his shield. My understanding up until recently was that the toa teams were all the same characters… just getting amnesia every time! 😵💫 So I didn’t know they were pre existing characters, literally. I assumed the matoran gave them new names whenever they got amnesiA. Because my grasp on the lore wasn’t the best, ironically, bara magna made me losE interest! I thought they scrapped all the characters and the world I liked! And gave them FINGERS!? Man, I remember as a kid I really wanted Tahu Mistika for one reason for another. And I did end up getting him... from three different people for somehow. I don't remember how exactly it happened since it's not like my birthday is in the summer but I ended up with three of him. Always found that kinda funny. Also never got the hate for Gali that you'll see a lot online. Sure I wouldn't call her an amazing set or anything but hardly terrible too.
Makuta where such nice looking, but I am greatful my mother gifted me the "pohato insect" or the "wasp" cause its the only one from the Makuta that has real articulations.
In my opinion, I think the Phantoka sets were better. The toa reminded me more of the toa nuva than the Mistika did, plus the makuta had those cool rib cages. I could also be biased though, since my first set was Phantoka Lewa 🤷♂️
I had no idea that the Toa in this set are the same ones from 2001/2002. And it's honestly their design. Even though the Toa Nuva sets had different masks, weapons and armor for the Toa, they still could be identified as their respective characters that were known from 2001. But when you look at Tahu in his Mistika form for example, he looks like a completly different character.
I loved Krika the most too, though I got a fair bit more out of Bitil's pieces, those large shield wings are my favourite piece. I've grown to appreciate Gorast over the years too, especially for her wings. These are pretty good guns, about average, but as a kid I much preferred the melee weapons, even now I still think I'd like the Toa to get more melee weapons-Kopaka, Gali and Onua are all snipers. Generally just think these Toa sets had lots of cool pieces even if I might not be huge on Tahu looking a little spindly in the thigh. I think the masks look good and am glad that we have them, but recognise if you want that evolving motif between character iterations that's fair, but I also think that in such an instance I'd prefer them to have Mistika versions of the old toa tools, to really bind together the aesthetic.
I think the blasters in the Mistika sets need to have both the rubber spring and the bullets well adjusted. Likewise if the rubber is too loose or the ammo is too deep in the barrel, it won't fire as well. Personally I only have a second hand Gorast and her blaster actually shoots reasonably well despite the spring being somewhat loose.
The Toa Nuva Mistika honestly look like they were supposed to be other Toa, as opposed to the Phantoka whose adapted masks really do look like modernized versions of the Nuva masks.
It felt like forever since we've had one of these. Personally, I only ever had Tahu, Krika and Bitil, and the latter two of those I didn't obtain until the very end of that year. Though there was controversy at the time about the Toa Mistika having too much silver and looking too different from their prior forms, they do have many unique elements comprising them. Tahu marks the first and only appearance of the rounded Inika feet and a new wing element in Metru red, the first of two sets to have the redesigned double socket joint in that color, and the third-to last set to have the Toa Metru hip/pelvis piece in that color. He also marks the first of two sets to have the Piraka legs in silver, and the second-to last appearance of the Toa Metru knee armor in that color. Tahu and Gali Mistika are also the final sets to have the Piraka torso in silver. Additionally, Gali is the only set to have the Inika legs in silver. She also marks the final appearance of the Inika knee armor in silver, though they did come in one other set released between the Phantoka and Mistika (8697) and a "Power Racers" set (8139) in October 2007. Her shoulder armor appears in only one other set released concurrently, and she is also the final canister-size set to have the Toa Metru feet in silver, as the remainder of its appearances would be in one of the Bionicle "Battle Vehicles" released in 2008, and three released in '09. She is also the first of three sets to have the redesigned double socket joint in Metru blue (earth blue). Onua Mistika is perhaps the most similar to his previous incarnation, though his Rahkshi legs in silver are exclusive to him, as are the new chest armor in black and the wing elements and 2x5x2 jet engines in Mata red. The shell comprising his "Multi-Resistant Shield" in silver appears in three other sets apart from himself and Bitil as well. He is also the second and final Bionicle set to have the Inika knee armor in black, though it also came in a "Mars Mission" set (7699) in '07, and a "Hero Factory" set (7147) in 2010, after Bionicle's initial discontinuation. I usually had could watching this episodes of Matoro's Legacy Ignition Saga Is episodes title of *"The Makuta's goes the hell A Third way of Final Friday Arc."* Act 1 - Haos Contestir best story Arc ever!
I remember getting Krika first, then Gali later and Gorast last. Krika has a cool design but got really boring after a couple of minutes because the arms didn't have joints. Gali I couldn't keep standing on her feet easily and the jets were akwardly placed, and she has the same problem as Kopaka forcing the joints to break, and why didn't they have a proper weapon? Gorast was alright after heavy modification giving her a balljoint function turning the wings into long claws coming from the stomach.
I like the Mistika, just not as a version of the Mata. As a teenager i prefered to pretend they were new characters. Alongside the Phantoka as a New toa team hehe
You should have rated each set of a release from most to least favorite one. I think among these 6 Gorast is the coolest. He has claws, wings, a sting and a weapon.
Mistika: Mask- I definitely like mask of Onua, Krikka, Gali, and Gorast Body- Only body pieces I like are Bitil’s and Gorast’s wings, Onuas shoulder pieces, and Galis mask wings. Hues- I only like color palette of Bitil and Gorast. Name spelling- I like spelling of Gali, Onua, and Tahu Name feeling- I like the vibe of the name Onua and Tahu Weapons- I like Tahu’s shield like weapon and Galis scope piece. I love Onua’s and Tahu’s feet
brand new parts for mistika line etc don't crack but after a lot of play, they crack meanwhile my toa metru even after 2 years of play with it havent cracked at all

Man, I remember as a kid I really wanted Tahu Mistika for one reason for another. And I did end up getting him... from three different people for somehow. I don't remember how exactly it happened since it's not like my birthday is in the summer but I ended up with three of him. Always found that kinda funny. Also never got the hate for Gali that you'll see a lot online. Sure I wouldn't call her an amazing set or anything but hardly terrible too.
The King is back! BTW I reassembelled my Tahu just the other day and his red leg joint cracked after 10+ years...

Tahu mistika has always been my favorite design in regards to any toa. I love the wings and shield. I’m excited to get my hands on it eventually
Makuta where such nice looking, but I am greatful my mother gifted me the "pohato insect" or the "wasp" cause its the only one from the Makuta that has real articulations.
In my opinion, I think the Phantoka sets were better. The toa reminded me more of the toa nuva than the Mistika did, plus the makuta had those cool rib cages. I could also be biased though, since my first set was Phantoka Lewa 🤷♂️

I had no idea that the Toa in this set are the same ones from 2001/2002. And it's honestly their design. Even though the Toa Nuva sets had different masks, weapons and armor for the Toa, they still could be identified as their respective characters that were known from 2001. But when you look at Tahu in his Mistika form for example, he looks like a completly different character.
I loved Krika the most too, though I got a fair bit more out of Bitil's pieces, those large shield wings are my favourite piece. I've grown to appreciate Gorast over the years too, especially for her wings. These are pretty good guns, about average, but as a kid I much preferred the melee weapons, even now I still think I'd like the Toa to get more melee weapons-Kopaka, Gali and Onua are all snipers. Generally just think these Toa sets had lots of cool pieces even if I might not be huge on Tahu looking a little spindly in the thigh. I think the masks look good and am glad that we have them, but recognise if you want that evolving motif between character iterations that's fair, but I also think that in such an instance I'd prefer them to have Mistika versions of the old toa tools, to really bind together the aesthetic.

krika was the only one i wanted ever as a kid. i have him now but i missed out on alot as a kid.
I think the blasters in the Mistika sets need to have both the rubber spring and the bullets well adjusted. Likewise if the rubber is too loose or the ammo is too deep in the barrel, it won't fire as well.
Personally I only have a second hand Gorast and her blaster actually shoots reasonably well despite the spring being somewhat loose.

The Toa Nuva Mistika honestly look like they were supposed to be other Toa, as opposed to the Phantoka whose adapted masks really do look like modernized versions of the Nuva masks.

It felt like forever since we've had one of these. Personally, I only ever had Tahu, Krika and Bitil, and the latter two of those I didn't obtain until the very end of that year. Though there was controversy at the time about the Toa Mistika having too much silver and looking too different from their prior forms, they do have many unique elements comprising them. Tahu marks the first and only appearance of the rounded Inika feet and a new wing element in Metru red, the first of two sets to have the redesigned double socket joint in that color, and the third-to last set to have the Toa Metru hip/pelvis piece in that color. He also marks the first of two sets to have the Piraka legs in silver, and the second-to last appearance of the Toa Metru knee armor in that color. Tahu and Gali Mistika are also the final sets to have the Piraka torso in silver. Additionally, Gali is the only set to have the Inika legs in silver. She also marks the final appearance of the Inika knee armor in silver, though they did come in one other set released between the Phantoka and Mistika (8697) and a "Power Racers" set (8139) in October 2007. Her shoulder armor appears in only one other set released concurrently, and she is also the final canister-size set to have the Toa Metru feet in silver, as the remainder of its appearances would be in one of the Bionicle "Battle Vehicles" released in 2008, and three released in '09. She is also the first of three sets to have the redesigned double socket joint in Metru blue (earth blue). Onua Mistika is perhaps the most similar to his previous incarnation, though his Rahkshi legs in silver are exclusive to him, as are the new chest armor in black and the wing elements and 2x5x2 jet engines in Mata red. The shell comprising his "Multi-Resistant Shield" in silver appears in three other sets apart from himself and Bitil as well. He is also the second and final Bionicle set to have the Inika knee armor in black, though it also came in a "Mars Mission" set (7699) in '07, and a "Hero Factory" set (7147) in 2010, after Bionicle's initial discontinuation. On the Makuta Mistika side, Krika uses a torso found in the Phantoka Makuta, and marks the debut of the Av-Matoran limb in black, and of the redesigned hand socket in white. Krika's chest armor in white is exclusive to him and he is the final canister set to have the Toa Metru pelvis in white. He is also the second and final Bionicle set to have the Slizer limb in black, which is how his "Nynrah Ghost Blaster" is mounted on his shoulder. The melded claws are exclusive to this set, and the wings are also in a "Hero Factory" set (6228) from 2012. Bitil's claws in silver are exclusive, as are the Rahkshi legs in yellow. He is also the first of two Bionicle sets to have the Slizer limb in yellow, which debuted in '99. Himself, along with Gorast and Tahu are the first three of five sets to have a new 4x5x5 claw element in silver. Additionally, he marks the final appearance of the Vahki head in black, and of that piece as a whole...

To be honest I'm not sure. My original plan was to stop after G1, but I've been asked this question a decent amount. As of right now it looks like Mata Nui Mondays will be wrapping early 2023, so it comes down to what type of content I want to focus on at that time

I remember getting Krika first, then Gali later and Gorast last. Krika has a cool design but got really boring after a couple of minutes because the arms didn't have joints. Gali I couldn't keep standing on her feet easily and the jets were akwardly placed, and she has the same problem as Kopaka forcing the joints to break, and why didn't they have a proper weapon? Gorast was alright after heavy modification giving her a balljoint function turning the wings into long claws coming from the stomach.
I kinda wanna see if I can find a Krika and upgrade it with the modern bionicle pieces tbh?
I like the Mistika, just not as a version of the Mata.
As a teenager i prefered to pretend they were new characters. Alongside the Phantoka as a New toa team hehe

Mask- I definitely like mask of Onua, Krikka, Gali, and Gorast
Body- Only body pieces I like are Bitil’s and Gorast’s wings, Onuas shoulder pieces, and Galis mask wings.
Hues- I only like color palette of Bitil and Gorast.
Name spelling- I like spelling of Gali, Onua, and Tahu
Name feeling- I like the vibe of the name Onua and Tahu
Weapons- I like Tahu’s shield like weapon and Galis scope piece.
I love Onua’s and Tahu’s feet
