    I used this coffee grinder at the 2023 Taiwan Coffee Expo. It is more difficult to grip compared to the previous generation(X or X lite), and the grinding efficiency is lower. It would be beneficial if a non-slip rubber ring could be included as an accessory for this grinder.

      We didn’t compare it with the X or Lite, but it is faster than average hand grinders, requiring about 50 rotations for a 15g pour-over size. However, you are right that grinding can be challenging, 😅 especially with light-roasted coffee, as it's not very smooth.

      @@IMNOTABARISTA Yes, it's a bit challenging with light-roast beans. There are many details that need improvement, but it's indeed a fascinating product.

      Thank you for sharing your experience with it. It can’t hurt to mention that I just read a review, that this S3 is more convenient for people with larger hands. The slim model was recommended to fit smaller hands better. They mentioned that the recommended settings were quite accurate. Extremely fine 0.01 per click.
      In many videos I see they compare different handgrinders with the same amount of clicks. Or by how much time they take to grind 15 grams. The problem is, that they don’t have a Particle Size Measuring Device. Maschine’s Performance must be measured how effortlessly and *consistently* they achieve a certain amount of fineness. Otherwise brewing recipes will not be very consistent, and the taste will be bad. I will only be persuaded if the S3 does it’s supposed job well: grind *fine* 🙏

    Hello. What is this grinder for moka and aeropress like? By the way, it is better than the K6 if we do not take into account expresso?

    • @IMNOTABARISTA
      @IMNOTABARISTA  21 день тому

      We don’t have the K6, so we can’t make a comparison. However, we really enjoy the taste profile this grinder produces and the way it feels in hand. The only minor issue is that grinding light roasted coffee requires a bit more effort, but it’s manageable! 😊

      @@yosiaandre2432 If you're wanting to grind for espresso, French reviewer CoffeeGeek didn't think the S3 could grind fine enough as his Lelit espresso maker would only register about 4-6 bars when brewing. He later preferred the Kingrinder K4 (plus more expensive 1Zpresso options) which were designed for espresso grinds. Your results may vary. Hopefully you can find alternate reviews for the S3 making espresso. BTW, he ground 16g of coffee beans in about 45 seconds at setting '0'.

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants 8 місяців тому +1

      @@borbetomagus I wouldn't recommend a hand grinder for espresso especially if your doing more than one shot a day or using light dense coffees it's too much work. The timemore c2 says it can do espresso but it takes forever to grind it doesnt really work. C3 can do espresso but I only tried one shot and it was pretty bland. Like not bad but no flavour clarity at all. I had the 1zpresso k plus before and it does espresso Pretty well but steps were a bit too large.

      Maybe I can add interesting other facts besides SUS420 serrated stainless steel conical burrs?
      Model X lite had SUS440. Both SUS440 and SUS420 are iron-chromium alloys. But SUS420 with slighly less chromium less than half carbon is typically used for cutlery. SUS440 would have more tensile strength like for slim cutting edges like scalpels. From my experience with cutlery the SUS420 should be longer lasting and therefore beneficial for longer lifetime. But it also depends on how well they were heat treated. But let’s get vack to coffee ☺️
      It’s the brandnew S2C890 burr set // 15 mu per click
      compared X/X lite // 40 mu and C3 // 80 mu per click
      Tolerance reduced from 7 mu to 5 mu for higher grind consistency. Only 2 mu right? Is that much?
      Yes! That is an insane improvement of 20%, by increasing dimensional stability to 200% 🥹

      @@IMNOTABARISTA sure looks neat. i have the chestnut x model and it's served me really well, i was tempted by niche zero however and decided not to fight this temptation and i'm loving it! keeping my timemore though just in case. had i not bought the niche, i would probably have bought s3, even just for the kicks. the weight, speed and price are big factors - do you think the s3 is also a contender for chestnut x when it comes to grinding itself? i'm a pure espresso drinker so when looking for a grinder i'm all about the fine, consistent grains and my chestnut x has done a wonderful job, i wonder if s3 would have served me just as well

    • @hugoapresname
      @hugoapresname 8 місяців тому +2

      Timemore mentions that consistency has improved by 20% from 7 to 5 mu.
      But each click is now 15 mu compared to 40 mu from the X
      The material of the burr has changed from SUS440 to SUS420 but it’s difficult to reach conclusions to hardness because the procedure of heat treatment is unknown.

    I purchased the S3 and I don't like it. It only has 10 clicks for espresso. I used it with 3 types of coffee beans and on the finest grind size it is still not fine enough. Coffee (30grams) runs in 12-14 seconds. Way too fast.
    Next to this, the grip of the grinder is awful. And the exterior is hard to clean.
    Be aware: not suitable for good espresso!!
