This was easily the best breakdown of Sage for a baby healer like me that I found yet. So many of the other videos just throw ability names and numbers at you and I REALLY appreciate that you took the time to break the abilities down first.
As a guy who has never healed before in his time playing FFXIV I decided to jump into the deep end and learn with Sage, someone told me its not really a beginner healer so I thought "you know what, I feel like suffering today", this guide was clear enough to get an understanding on how to heal into my DPS main brain and allow to me to perform somewhat competently with it, even if it was just a levelling dungeon. Cracking guide good sir, I shall look to you for more in the future
I agree with Zoechu0. This is THE best SAGE video out there. Now, I watched this video a few months back, and even though you were precise and clear, I was like "WTF, i don't understand" SAGE is very confusing at first. All the skills have weird, non-traditional names. They are almost ALL blue fuzzy icons. (I mean, really SE?) I just loved the aesthetic SO much that I powered through a lot of bad runs and low level runs just to keep the usable skill set small and manageable. I HIGHLY recommend this. BUT, stick to lvl 30-40 dungeons so you get the finger memory and timing for Eukrasia. Once you get that down with the 3 main spells, slowly go up in dungeon levels until you can comfortably weave in the other stuff. Now, coming back and watching this video again with a bit of experience under my robe, it ALL made sense. And it IS the best video out there. You actually helped me better utilize the synergy between spells, but also helped to correct spells I was completely misusing. Thank you SO MUCH Stefan. You have helped to make SAGE my main job, and it's so much fun
This is legit the first Sage walkthrough video that hasn't been either rife with memes and jokes (and therefore unclear) or just utterly rapid-fire informational dump with zero practical application (and therefore useless). THANK YOU
Thank you for breaking this down without constant editing for jokes AND giving examples of what to do in big pulls. Direct and to the point of what this and that does.
Gotten every job to 90, and Sage was my first barrier healer as a white mage main. Felt I had a rather strong grasp on the job, but there were still a small few things I felt slightly unsure of. Even to a much more experienced player like me, this video was helpful in showing me what I could be doing better/differently. Thanks!
hey! you did a great job with this guide and i can see it helping a lot of people :-) i just wanted to add that zoe ALSO works on pneuma bc its a spell and not an ability, and it turns it into a CHUNKY 900 potency aoe heal! and since zoe is an OGCD you dont lose anything when you weave it between other spells, so its great for both when a partywide aoe goes off during a boss and for trash packs like you said when you covered pneuma (you can disregard this if you mentioned it in the video and i managed to miss it LMAO)
Yeeee! I didn’t physically say it but I did write spell in parenthesis since most of my viewers are 24-35 I am banking in them actually going in looking up which are spells Also thank you very much 💜💜
As someone who is practically still a new healer(I'm a tank main) watching this video helped me out a lot with Sage. I know my gear isn't that great at the moment, currently level 75 and only have IL 400 to 403 gear for it but I'd say i do pretty good with what i got. My tanks stay so alive so that's a good thing in my book i think.
Thank you very much for this, I just applied what I learned here and it made the job so much easier, still super busy but understanding how the rest of the kit (which I did not use as much) works makes it more fun.
Now you have me rethinking the way I've been pronouncing these heals the whole time haha. All of the -chole skills I've been pronouncing like they rhyme with holy 😅
-Chole is used as a prefix or suffix in medical terminology to refer to “bile” or “gall”(like in your gallbladder). Since the gauge is called “addersgall”, there is some fun medical cross over terms that as a medical nerd, I actually love to see in healers I play in games. Ps. It would be pronounced pretty close to how you mention it in the video, ex. Cholecystectomy would be pronounced as kow · luh · suh · stek · tuh · mee But, in this case these aren’t real words I’m pretty sure, so pronounce them how you like!
i dont usually comment on vids but this guide was just so helpful for me as someone hopping back into the game after a long break. Def helped me get more confident when using it for dungeons, and the class has become one of my favs to play. thank you sm for the vid!!!
cheers for the guide. appreciate you breaking it down by level sections and focusing on what you're able to do then and there; helped a lot know what to expect going into roulettes.
This guide was really useful, finally sage clicked for me as an astro main who never really understood shields even though i had a scholar who was only a bit behind my astro this was great!
Because i was starting Stormblood MSQ and was almost lvl 90 on my 1st job SUM/SCH. Some members of my FC suggested that i either start a reaper or a sage. As i still wanted to heal but didn't really enjoy Scholar as it is too tedious, i did start a Sage. At first i found it pretty cool many of the spells are logical and straight forward. You put kardia on tank and activate soteria and i also add Eukrasian diagnosis on the party. Then i could have fun doing DPS while healing the tank and keep an eye on the party topping them up a little if needed. However later on in SBL in dungeons like Kugane castle some of the wall to wall pulls especially the last one before last boss really hit the tanks very hard and i really need to keep my cool and throw everything i've got to keep them up. And doing dps + kardia doesn't heal enough to keep them up. With warriors its kind of ok but i really have a lot of trouble with GNB. So i either am a shitty healer or the tanks aren't properly managing their mitigates for the size of the pulls they wanna make. I also try to be geared in the highest gear i can get my hands on and also meld it. I'm also new to the game and so far haven't played any tank job so for me it's kind of hard to judge if they are doing things right but from the dmg i see them take i can only guess that many of them have bad management. And this problem only got worse in SHB dungeons. I'm at a point now were i do roulettes as a healer up to STB but i avoid doing it in SHB ones. I just do my MSQ and when a new trial or dungeon comes up in it i just switch to my SUM and queue as a DPS. Can't play atm having my PC being repaired but i will go over the suggestions you make to see if it improves my game once i can login again. Thx
Got linked this from a friend who literally just tried out SGE, when I was trying SGE for the first time. Both me and him can actually manage the class at least slightly because of this guide, it's super concise and helpful, thank you!!
I've always been scared of trying healing. All the other videos scare me off. But this video has made me wana try it the second I get to 70. Thank you for the great and very informative guide !
Found you randomly cus I wanted to make sure I remembered what I was doing for SCH, glad I did, I will be watching all your healing vids, thoroughly enjoying them, very helpful. I wanted to try Sage, just got it, and Astrologian absolutely confounds me, so this will help me on my goal of learning all the healing roles. I want them all 90 one day, then I will move on to learning the new tanks... maybe Ill get around to DPS classes one day lol.
Thank you for THIS! I want to like Tanking & Healing! I get put off by rude people who say I don't know how to play the job! This makes some sense to me as I have yet to try Sage! I love the look of the job & want to try it! I am going to level mine up & practice with my Grand Company! That way I can heal npc's instead of real people & take my time getting comfortable with the job! Great Video, keep up the great work! ;)
OMG Where we're you during all those hours I was dying at the lvl 70 job quest?! XD Thanks so much for this guide, you are Waaaay better at explaining this than 99% of ffxiv youtubers.
@@BunBossFFXIV I tried it and the game keeps crashing when I load into the game with a direct X 11 error and even when I disable it just keeps crashing and after reading 2 years of backlogs of this error happening and trying everything suggested short of completing reinstalling my OS because I don't have the OS disc I kind of just give up and took the 65$ Loss.
We will miss you at the Astro lounge main club Jokes aside. Sage is amazing! Definitely my personal #2 preference. I agree with the clicking. At first sage is a little like. Uh. What? But the versatility is insane. In fact. For what it’s worth. I’ve seen some dual sage parties in current endgame savage that have just absolutely rocked. Pretty nuts! I’ve been working on sage rotation for savage so I can swap AST and SGE as needed and I thoroughly enjoyed the simplistic breakdown. Your tips are top tier!
I wanted to try healing and heard that WHM is the easiest way to dip your toes into it, and then I absolutely suffered on my first try. Spamming my cure skill wasn't enough and stuff and then I decided to just maybe not do it again. Still was curious about healing, and I wanted cool pew pew blasters so I picked up SGE. Felt intimidated since apparently it's not beginner friendly and there's lots of text. But after failing a lot on the job quest making you try out SGE, it slowly clicked and thought it was actually a lot more simpler than I thought. I just hit my first lv 90 job yesterday and it was SGE. Your healer guides and controller setup are insanely helpful and made healing (and doing job stuff) a lot more easier and fun. Thanks so much!
great content started playing ffxiv 2 months ago maining the scholar/ summoner just because 2 jobs in 1 i think barrier healing is the most fun. hit lvl 70 in heavenward and unlock the sage love the job but it does get complicated not to mention a lot of the good skills are later lvls I've been running 50 and under dungeons just to get a understanding of the class this really helps I'm definitely going to main sage too such a fun class shields HoTs and instance heals great all rounder
I don't see it mentioned anywhere in any guide but Pepsis can be used with the right timing on raidwides to heal ppl after the damage goes off actually..
As someone learning the job, something i find difficult while leveling in dungeons is that many tanks don't use their mitigations in pulls. And it makes it SO much harder, as you don't have the raw healing power to sustain a big wall pull on a "raw" tank. Their health melt like nothing.
This is a good guide. One suggestion, I always tell people not to use the term "always be casting". This gives people the impression that they can't brace for something coming. If I see a tank whos getting blasted, I may stop casting to quickly assess how to regain control of the situation. It's not always practical to constantly be casting something.
Thank you =) This is a good guide. I find this job pairs really well with a WHM in 8man content as they compliment each others strengths and weaknesses well... The one thing I would note, as you did, this class works best by being proactive and keeping good shields/health on the group, as this class doesn't have the utility to recover well when in trouble... But it's a fun class to play for sure =)
One thing i would change is on the trash pulls… since usually there two before a boss…. Use Panhaima first THEN haima …. The reason for this is panhaima is also good for boss room wide AOE attacks so using it first gets cool down to line up with the boss
WoW. Resto shaman ~ 12 keys to use. Priest Holy ~ 7 keys to work in Mythic. FF14? 20 to 25 keys. healing is harder in WoW, but learning all those buttons. This is a challenge.
This definitely helps clear some stuff up, but one thing I'm still curious about is when to use Toxicon. Like do I let it cap and only use it for movement, or is it more use as I get them or so?
As someone who prefer SCH and have dabbled with SGE recently, the job is fun. Kinda caught off guard for not having a fairy to top the damage sustained by dps due to constantly being Kardia'd to tanks. It felt more responsive and in control but nevertheless, both are fun. Just hope SCH gets more tactical and focused with their fairies so they do not cross too much with SGE territory. Love both of them and will not trade over WHM and AST. Shield healers rule. Edit.. also, allow SCH to change pet size... it is sometimes hard to see where my fairy is. Also, bring back Rouse!! Edit2. This is also the problem i have with SGE.. if I am with a good party where i seldom to never do so much healing, i end up MP negative and just force myself to ogcd heal which goes against every fiber of my being. XD
could you advise the best dungeon rotation at L70 ? i was thinking, tank pulls, E.Diagnoses, dot enemies as they are being pulled. when tank stops, throw down kerachole and physis 2, then Dykrasia spam ? applying taurachole once Kerachole finishes? also weaving in Toxikon as it becomes available.
Sage is great but one specific instance i consistently fail in is the big pull right before the first boss of Holminster Switch. I regularly wipe the group there. There have definitely been occasions where the tank has failed to use their invuln, but i feel like i should be able to handle it regardless of that. I start with physys and kerachole and haima, and then zoe taurochole, then go back to kerachole after that but even then i still can not keep up with that much damage. I have done a lot of searching and even though that pull is notorious for being extremely difficult i have not found any forums about it or guides on youtube talking about it. Surely i can't be the only sage that struggles with this.
yea that one can be really really difficult especially as a new sage with near item level gear. Ill give you what I do for pulls around 70. Once he pulls the first mob, eurkrasian diagnosis after he hits the enemy. once he stops, I throw up kerachole and haima. after 15 seconds, kerachole damage mitigation will wear off so I throw a taurochole, by that time he needs healing anyway. then physis and another eukriasian diaognisos and soteria. Of course you are damage in between this, this is just the healing spells i rotate through. You would throw in a drochole at any point. Physis is better at the later part of that pull, is it increases the healing of your actions by 10% which can really make a difference with the last few abilities instead of the first two. if you still have questions, join my discord we can discuss in there :D
omg, THANK YOU SO MUCH. Im a WHM main, so this is a huge transition when you're so use to regen and pure healing skills. My main issue was MP regen, but your guide helped me understand both Kardia and the cooldown spells ♥
Tried Sage on a lvl50 Command Mission and was rough The braindead AI takes so much damage because of positioning Had to order them around while healing and dpsing and it was NOT fun My confidence was pretty low to try Sage on Duty Finder A lot of guides overcomplicate things because they are for endgame After watching this , DF went way better than expected 👍
mmmmm really only in emergency I guess, usually it doesn't get that bad but you can weave it in to just about anything since it is affected by "healing actions" which include ogcds. Usually on a tank in a pull when you are going to use Taurochole or pneuma could be a way but its pretty universal
How do you do that thing with highlighting the hotbar that is currently active, and is there a way to do it on keyboard? I constantly get shift, ctrl and Alt mixed up, if the hotbar lit up when I press one it'd probably help with pressing the right combinations
My irk with the job is some lower level dungeons... with large pulls... ie 50-60 or so.. Wich with out but fails spectacularly , if the tank just darts off before kardia up... and or shielding...
I took a break from doing sage after a run of Dohn mheg as I was panicking a lot that I ended up spamming heals and barriers but also didn't had any experience with Scholar but the regen healers due to myself always having leveled up Summoner on most alts.
Not joking on being difficult to heal back up. Just last night I was doing expert roulettes and had a Dark Knight using exactly 0 cooldowns, then having the audacity to ask if I'm okay with them taking big mobs after the first wipe. I was total panic mode on that first pull, but as we moved forward I noticed they weren't using any cooldowns. I was pissed...
@@jimmysensei I lied, he did use whatever Dark Knights super cooldown is. Living dead I think? That's what ended up wiping on the first pull. After trying to keep up I didn't have anything left to bring them back to full in time.
As an ilvl 630 healer main who has all four healers @ lvl 90....I don't know how tf y'all play Sage and like it. :/ Its healing abilities are subpar, its shielding abilities shield for far less than Scholar, it has little raid utility, and it has far less margin for error. But perhaps that's what y'all like about it? I can tell you right now that AST's and SCH's healing and shielding are so powerful that it may make them feel slow and boring to play. You don't necessarily need to be constantly mashing healing or mitigation buttons, which means you can focus on dpsing. SGE on the other hand practically requires rapid non-stop button pressing and dpsing just to keep your party members up and bearly alive. But that doesn't mean that that it's balanced or "good." It just means you're having to do significantly more work just to break even compared to the other healers. Sage is THE reactive healer. All of it's abilities are geared toward quick on-the-fly decision-making, primarily being instant-cast. Also, ironically, the less shielding and healing you have to do means the more time you can spend dpsing. Unfortunately, Sage spends more time healing and shielding than dpsing than the other healers. If you like that sort of thing, then more power to you. If Sage is your aesthetic, then right on! Play and do what you love. But Sage is absolutely not for me. I consider it the worst of the healers presently. My ranking would be: AST > SCH > WHM > SGE.
Tower of Zot is just a bad dungeon my dude. Don’t give up because of it. Seriously, there’s so much going on in that dungeon that is not clear to people so they take a lot of damage and it’s impossible to keep up. Do not judge Sage or really any healer or tank based on that awful dungeon. Worst dungeon they’ve put into the game in a very long time.
This is THE clearest SGE guide I’ve watched because you explained everything perfectly clear. Thank you!!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!
This was easily the best breakdown of Sage for a baby healer like me that I found yet. So many of the other videos just throw ability names and numbers at you and I REALLY appreciate that you took the time to break the abilities down first.
Your welcome! Super glad that it was helpful! 💜💜💜
How are things going for you? Did you start off with Sage as your first healer?
Finally a video with actual instructions as opposed to just reading us the moves

haha thank you! I am glad that it got to help you out with healing with sage.
I’ve recently picked up Sage, and coming from AST, I have majorly struggled. Thank you for your clear instructions, and for not talking down to us.

Something worth noting is that Zoe can be used on Pneuma for a THICC heal on the whole party. Very great for beefy raidwides or emergency healing.

Due to the absolutely awful state of Machinist I’ve becoming very attached to Sage for my “guy with guns” fix.
Machinist: 1 Gun
Sage: 4 Guns
hahaha yes yes yes

I also play on controller. How did you setup your hotbar as it is featured in this video?
So excellent. Thank you!
So glad it helped out
It is dps neutral so just leaving them there really does nothing to hinder dps, but really helps with movement so I would just hold them for movement
Just what I needed! Thank you!
Your welcome Celso!
XD
A very good tips video! I started playing Sage and it's my first Healer ahahahah (aside from Scholar that it's lvl 90 with lvl 30 equip ahaahahahah)
Thank you!!
Amazing explanation, thank you.
could you advise the best dungeon rotation at L70 ? i was thinking, tank pulls, E.Diagnoses, dot enemies as they are being pulled. when tank stops, throw down kerachole and physis 2, then Dykrasia spam ? applying taurachole once Kerachole finishes? also weaving in Toxikon as it becomes available.
also, what is the quickest way to bring the tanks health back up near death ot when GNB / DRK use their 1hp emergency button
@@kaihoward7093 Another comment mentioned that Zoe pairs with Pneuma as well. Maybe, that'll help you solve the problem.
@@BunBossFFXIV thanks for the advice. I realized i was also wasting my zoe because it doesn't buff taurochole like i thought it did
@@dustinhatfield8373 I personally like zoe on eurkasian diagnosis for a bigger heal and shield
Wonderful guide, thank you
The spell names are hard to remember 🤣
You want to cast Physis BEFORE Kerachole since it buffs the regen that Kerachole provides.
Thank you Stefan!
Your welcome Bella!
This gave me ideas. Superb video
Thank you for pronouncing Phlegma properly!!! So many people pronounce it Phleg-ma, with a hard G, instead of Phlegm-a, with a silent G.
omg, THANK YOU SO MUCH. Im a WHM main, so this is a huge transition when you're so use to regen and pure healing skills. My main issue was MP regen, but your guide helped me understand both Kardia and the cooldown spells ♥
Tried Sage on a lvl50 Command Mission and was rough
The braindead AI takes so much damage because of positioning
Had to order them around while healing and dpsing and it was NOT fun
My confidence was pretty low to try Sage on Duty Finder
A lot of guides overcomplicate things because they are for endgame
After watching this , DF went way better than expected 👍
To be fair squadron missions should only ever be done with a tank because of the ai being weird.
Do you use Krasis much and what is it best to pair with?
mmmmm really only in emergency I guess, usually it doesn't get that bad but you can weave it in to just about anything since it is affected by "healing actions" which include ogcds. Usually on a tank in a pull when you are going to use Taurochole or pneuma could be a way but its pretty universal
Bringing a friend who is a good warrior is pretty handy for safe learning in dungeons.
hahahah so true hahah
How do you do that thing with highlighting the hotbar that is currently active, and is there a way to do it on keyboard? I constantly get shift, ctrl and Alt mixed up, if the hotbar lit up when I press one it'd probably help with pressing the right combinations
My irk with the job is some lower level dungeons... with large pulls... ie 50-60 or so..
Wich with out but fails spectacularly , if the tank just darts off before kardia up... and or shielding...
Sage is not an easy job, but my god it's satisfying when you pull it off.
Back in my day we called curing spells "cure".
I took a break from doing sage after a run of Dohn mheg as I was panicking a lot that I ended up spamming heals and barriers but also didn't had any experience with Scholar but the regen healers due to myself always having leveled up Summoner on most alts.
taking the being proactive and not reactive in fights to heart
Hmmm.....may still need to start with white mage since im still lost lol🤔
Thank u so much for the guide
Can't believe you betrayed us Scholars :´(
What is the ability on L2+Circle? I don't think I have that available
Where in the description can I see gearing through 1-89...?
Thanks for this video ^^ !!
Your welcome power! Glad that it helped out!
How did you get your abilities UI look like that?
youll find it in the controller playist guide :D
Not joking on being difficult to heal back up. Just last night I was doing expert roulettes and had a Dark Knight using exactly 0 cooldowns, then having the audacity to ask if I'm okay with them taking big mobs after the first wipe. I was total panic mode on that first pull, but as we moved forward I noticed they weren't using any cooldowns. I was pissed...
That is rough 😅
"exactly 0 cooldowns" this made me gag. I just let them know they need to use a rampart or something
@@jimmysensei I lied, he did use whatever Dark Knights super cooldown is. Living dead I think? That's what ended up wiping on the first pull. After trying to keep up I didn't have anything left to bring them back to full in time.
@@BunBossFFXIV I lied, we wiped cause he used living dead or whatever DK invul. Is and I couldn't heal back up in time.
Thanks for the guide, but holy wow does playing with a controller look insane.
I don't care what other people say, this shit is still confusing.
I love watching other people do healer if I do healer well let's just say wipe city
😍😍
@@BunBossFFXIV 😍😍
Im now even more confused.
This class makes me feel stupid.
Aww don’t it’s just strange names
Zot made me quit Sage. I absolutely could not keep up with the wall to wall pulls. The healer role in general may just not be a part of my skillset.
it is a different mentality for sure but just takes some practice if you are not used to it. :D
Worst dungeon they’ve put into the game in a very long time.
havent watched the vid but sage doesnt start at lvl 1 so the title should 70-90
🤣🤣 so you’ll never do a leveling roulette? The title is encompassing of all sage skills. Not those just between 70-90. #boybye
