Reba McEntire had released the song, "Whoever's In New England," from the perspective of the wife who is being cheated on and Jennifer Nettles realized there was no song written from the perspective of the other woman. The emotion she showed was real because she was going through a real life divorce, but not because she, herself, was in the situation of being the other woman IRL. The other half of Sugarland is the guy playing the guitar, Kristian Bush. They have a brother/sister kind of relationship and he was very protective of Jennifer's feelings during this video shoot, not letting others into the room and making them stop when it became too much. That voice, her eyes and the emotion make it a very compelling visual experience, for sure. And as far as the song goes ... yeah. Sometimes good people make bad decisions and everyone in the situation gets hurt.
Jennifer wrote this song from the mistresses perspective, when in reality her husband was cheating on her. Doing the video the emotion is real cause they were going thru the divorce.
Jennifer Nettiles! Amazing woman and voice to die for. She just finished a run on Broadway in The Waitress! Won a Grammy for this song and performance.
While I'm not sure if something similar has happened to Jennifer Nettles, the song was written as a different perspective to Reba McEntire's Whoever is in New England
This song is genius you very rarely hear a song wrote telling from the other side everybody has the part to play in it and everybody's got feelings. This poor woman was going through a divorce from her husband cheating on her when she wrote this song. Her friend in the band that's playing the guitar quoted that it broke his heart to see her going through this pain they tried to get her to do a second take and he would not allow it for her to go through it again. And interview about the song she tells how the song came about her husband was cheating on her with another woman she loved him so much she took him back several times. Till she realized that she become The Other Woman and the woman that he cheated with became the woman at home.
In the end she said, 'the next time you want to leave her bed for mine - why don't you stay' In other words, I've had enough, you go ahead and stay with your woman. Great reaction, guys!
Mel, the world needs more people like you. I saw it on your face. You clocked right away that she was the other woman in this scenario, but you still empathized with her pain. Please keep being you. 💕
Jennifer Nettles voice is awesome. She's unique as singers go and her emotion and ability to make you feel the song is amazing. I love your reaction to this.
You ask how long she's going to play this game. She ended it by the last chorus. "I'm up off my knees," "you can't give me what I need," "I don't have to live this way," "why don't you stay (with her)?"
I absolutely loved y’all’s response. The emotions on y’all’s faces were out of this world. Some reactors stop in the middle of the song which kind of distracts you from the whole story. As you have probably found out, this is a true story. Jennifers husband was cheating on her and this song is to tell the story based on the other woman’s feelings. It was very hard for her to do!
At the last part of the song, she's developed the strength to tell him to "Stay" with his wife/girlfriend. She's no longer begging, she's got her self-respect back.
Y'all's reaction says it all. I honestly didn't think she was speaking from the other woman's perspective. So this song is deep... Also, the tears she's shedding are real; she's actually crying in this so they kept it in the video to make it more authentic.
The last of the song she says " the next time you want to leave her bed for mine...why don't you stay" .in other words stay with his wife cause she's "up off her knees" !! She was telling him goodbye and she wrote it from the other Woman's perspective because she was going through a divorce because her husband cheated on her!!
Most people, who have reacted to this song, have missed the turn in the song, when she goes from "I'm down on my knees, for him to stay with her to "I;m up off my knees" that he should just stay with his wife. She is an outstanding vocalist. Peace
I've never really listened to the song but as they say, been there done that. And you're right, the pain is almost unbearable. When you love someone that deeply, it is like a bad dream you can't wake up from. This was an amazing video, no frills. Just her standing there completely bearing her heart and soul. Kudos to Sugarland, can't think of her name but WOW.
Her name is Jennifer Nettles and yes, it's soul wrenching because her husband was cheating on her so she wrote this from the mistress's perspective while they were going through their divorce.
Her husband didn't cheat on her; however, they were going through a divorce when her and Christan made the video. Those tears 😢 are from her processing her divorce. I ❤️ your reaction to her beautiful voice from the get go.
HER NAME IS JENNIFER NETTLES AND SHE PUTS SO MUCH EMOTION INTO HER SONGS THE AUDIENCE CAN NOT HELP BUT FEEL THE SAME EMOTIONS AND SHE HAS A VERY UNIQUE VOICE THAT IS EXTREAMLY POWERFUL AND FAR REACHING IN RANGE
That song a great song but according to the CMT interview she did with Christian it's based off of Reba McEntire whoever's in New England the female version
Thank you for your absolute heartfelt reaction to this song. You two are the bomb. Every time I hear this song I shed tears. Even men go through this with women, I know I did, and it hurts so much. One thing about music, if you don't have the right words, there's always a song to say it when you don't have the words.
I love Sugarland. She is obviously a world class vocalist and this is a sad song but there are a lot of fun ones as well. Thanks for the reaction and I hope you explore more from Sugarland
Mel, I love your face lmao. You can tell what you are thinking lol. Love it! I love her voice, her name is Jennifer Nettles and you’re right, she showed great emotion in this. I think a lot of women can relate to that pain…. I agree with you Mel, the men can say all the right thing “it isn’t working, I’m leaving her but…”
I've been in this woman's position, and this song hits the heart every time. I ended up with the guy, but it didn't last. The bad part is, he still has a hold on my heart. 😪
I know a gal, NOT ME, who was drug along for SIX YEARS because she kept desperately believing the man would leave his wife. Trust me, I knew from day 1 and I told her but she thought she had something the other woman didn't have. Finally she woke up and realized that he wasn't going to leave his wife and that she wasted 6 years of her life on a man who didn't really give a damn about her. Ladies, love yourself enough not to settle for seconds and leftovers. Plus, other women won't trust you around their men and they won't want to be your friend. Respect boundaries and create some for yourself.
Great reaction! I could tell you two were caught up emotionally in the song. Shawn literally reached for the camera once or twice because this woman needed a hug.
The sad part is this happens more often than many think. And it goes in both directions. Far too often the "other party" has been played and has no idea that the other is married or in some other relationship. And by then they are often in love...
Your faces during this video 🤣 Great reaction guys! I've been starting to follow you after seeing your amazing reaction to All I Wanna Do /Heart. Please watch Eric Clapton, Tears in Heaven (unplugged, not official video). It's about his young son.
Her name is Jennifer Nettles for a small lady such a powerful voice. I have actually been in this situation myself. After 2 years I finally walked away because it was clear she didn't want me.
This happened to one of my friends for a few years, and it was very blatant. She and the guy were together for several years and had a kid. Every summer, he would go back to his ex because she had money and would buy him things. He would then go back to my friend during the fall and winter, because my friend is a great cook and motherly type. Even his best friends were begging her to not allow him back because he wasn't worth all of the pain. Both women had been arrested for trespassing so many times by going over to the others house, to the point a cop told my friend if she was arrested again, she could lose her daughter. Eventually both women decided enough was enough and left him.
The song is beautifully written, executed, and the raw emotion strikes a chord. I do want to feel for her with the pain she is enduring, but I also think can we blame a man for that pain? You can't help who you like, but you can help what you do about it. The moment you find out he's married or with someone else, you have to peace out. He isn't putting you through that, you put yourself through it the moment you made the decision to continue. If he is willing to do that to his wife, why does any woman really think he'll treat her any differently? As women need to stop relying on men to determine our value and worth. And again he clearly doesn't value the woman he made a promise to be faithful with, why would he care about the other woman? How can he care about a woman who doesn't care enough about herself to keep herself out of that situation? We have to be stronger and not let men use us. We need to become confident in who we are and we need to find our worth without a man before we really pursue any relationship! ❤
Except that she wasn't the mistress. Her husband was cheating on her so when they were going through the divorce she wrote it from the mistress's perspective. It's important not to leave out details because your comment made it sound like it was real in the aspect that she was the mistress.
Love Love Love this song and Jennifer Nettles...I actually discovered this song while I was being done this way...felt like a fool and a skilled liar can pull the wool over your eyes for a season
So she was going through a divorce when she recorded this and so she was really emotional... But in the song shes singing from the perspective of the mistress!
Hello and God bless you too from Canada. I have started watching you guys and you and another couple of my total favorites now but I have to say watching you guys to react to this, it was amazing Mel your expressions while watching her we're almost identical to hers and Sean you were shocked that anybody could hurt a woman you two are just such beautiful people and I want to say thank you God bless you and a big hello from Canada
Love y'alls reaction! I love how Jennifer could look at it from the other woman's perspective as well as her own when writing this song. Truth is, people are only human & struggle with issues that get them into wrong decisions in life, but the other woman is a human being too. I think if we could have empathy for everyone, even our enemy who has caused us such pain, the world would be a different place. I have a friend who forgave the "other" woman (and her husband) and actually repaired her relationship, as well as building a new and even stronger one with her husband. She stays in touch with the woman and prays for her. Her heart is a beautiful one. And the other woman has grown as well. I know, because she was me when I was a young, stupid kid. I'm all grown up now and her forgiveness changed my life. Most people never plan to make these horrific decisions nor plan to cause other people so much pain. Cheating comes from 100% SELFISHNESS before anything else, but pain, lonliness, influence, addiction, etc. can absolutely stear an already screwed up person in the wrong direction. As much as I wish I could rewind time and erase my decisions, I thank God for forgiveness. I wish more people had it. Y'all keep up the great reactions. I LOVE your realness, 100% genuine ❤s shining through!
Not many people realize it but she’s actually singing two different perspectives. when she starts singing emotionally she’s singing as her (the woman who was married and being cheated on)
Jennifer Nettles was cheated on in real life so she wrote this song from the other woman's point!! Jennifer Nettles ( Sugarland) has a gorgeous voice!!
The producer of the video actually wanted to reshoot the parts where she broke down crying, but the guitarist refused to let her do it again. He told the producers you are not going to put her through that again, because every time they tried it, she would still cry.
So much true and genuine feelings. Even though I'm a guy, I've had this happen to me. But when I found out, I dropped her like a hot potato.. be careful who you trust. May the Living God richly bless and keep you both.
Jennifer Nettles, what can I say ??? Her voice is so powerful !!!! She blew the roof off the hard tock in Orlando... In the end, she was DONE !!!!!!! She told him to stay with the other one !!!!! When i saw her live, she puts so much emotion into her songs... I love her voice !!!!
Love Jennifer Nettles. Pretty lady with an amazing voice. And that accent when she sings, love it!!! I've probably watched this 30 times over the past few years and I still tear up!!!
Jennifer Nettles has serious pipes.. This is one of her best vocals ever... Sugarland was an excellent band. He's from the Busch Beans family btw. Instead of going into the family business he sings with Jennifer. What's really gives this particular performance credibility is her hubby was cheating on her. Those tears were real.
I love the subtleties of the lyrics. The first part is the mistress trying to convince, plead, and beg the wayward man to stay with her. She says "Why do YOU stay..." and thinking of her and the guy as a "we", like they should be the couple, instead of the wife that calls. The second part is the guy's side where he tells her all the sweet things and promises just to keep his mistress around, but she sees through it. In both the first and second parts, she's down on her knees, but the third part is where she gets a spine and stands on her own. Instead of begging the guy to stay with her again, she tells him to stay with his wife instead, that she's up off her knees, and turns things against him. So it's a song of realizing your position and getting empowered and doing right instead of letting things continue.
Jennifer Nettles (lead singer) wrote this song from the "other woman's" perspective. Her husband in real life had been cheating on her and she wrote this show how his actions had an impact on more than just her.... The tears in this video are 100% real and Christian (guitarist and the other half of Sugarland) told the director to keep filming when he suggested they stop filming to let her get herself together. he said this was real and raw and was important for people to see the real emotion and pain to get the message across
Sugarland’s “Stay” Jennifer Nettles Inspired by Reba McEntire's "Whoever's in New England" by lindsey roznovsky 12/28/2007 Sugarland’s “Stay” is the first of the duo’s chart-topping songs to solely be written by singer Jennifer Nettles. Although she has never lived the storyline of the song, she knew the subject of betrayal is something everyone could relate to, yet she wanted to tell the story from a different viewpoint. The song was written four years ago and inspired by Reba McEntire’s “Whoever’s in New England,” which was written from the perspective of a wife whose husband is cheating on her. Nettles knew countless songs written from that viewpoint but none from the other two people involved. She says most people don’t realize that even the person who is doing the cheating gets hurt as well.
Sugarland started off as a trio and then the other women who was with them dropped out due to music label bullshit, she still writes with them and is a dear friend to the other two. I always let people know that this will utterly hurt you because you can clearly see the pain that Jennifer is in. This music video is on another level and always will be. Their is another version of this song that I always recommend that version is Ronnie Dunn (from the duo Brooks and Dunn) this was part of a bigger celebration called Girls Night Out which was an awesome hands down night of music. Ronnie is a dear friend to Jennifer and the other night way. Their is only a live performance of the clip, but hands down a must to hear
I love this song. I have personally lived this song. Also listening to reba McIntyre and Linda Davis does he love you. The singer of stay is Jennifer nettles. And she was involved with a member of her band I believe
I loved Reba McIntyre and Linda Davis as well but you have the story about Jennifer Nettles wrong. It was actually her husband that cheated on her. During the divorce Jennifer decided to write a song from the other woman's (the mistress) perspective and that is where the song came from and why she was crying so much.
Good Morning Guys, it is really refreshing to see such a wonderfully down to earth couple with morals. Keep up the Good work. Have a wonderful an Blessed day. Peace
Reba McEntire had released the song, "Whoever's In New England," from the perspective of the wife who is being cheated on and Jennifer Nettles realized there was no song written from the perspective of the other woman. Yall should do reba McEntire ' whoever in in New England '
I love that song and all of reba' s old songs
I did not know this. Wow! Thank you
“Sometimes good people make bad decisions” Yes 👏🏻 I love your compassion.
Finally someone not putting out misinformation about Jennifer being cheated on. They both have stated that no cheating happened.
Jennifer wrote this song from the mistresses perspective, when in reality her husband was cheating on her. Doing the video the emotion is real cause they were going thru the divorce.
Wow I did not know that. I like this song but don't like homewreckers

Takes 2 to tango 2 to split both parties are to blame
In the end she said, 'the next time you want to leave her bed for mine - why don't you stay' In other words, I've had enough, you go ahead and stay with your woman. Great reaction, guys!
Everybody's Heart broke for Jennifer ♥️
I have heard this song a million times, and she makes me cry in this video every damn time.... 😭
Mel, the world needs more people like you. I saw it on your face. You clocked right away that she was the other woman in this scenario, but you still empathized with her pain. Please keep being you. 💕
I don't care who you are if that don't bring a tear to your eye then you have no soul. Great reaction to a great song
Jennifer Nettles voice is awesome. She's unique as singers go and her emotion and ability to make you feel the song is amazing. I love your reaction to this.

Watching Mel's face going through the moral dilemma and empathizing the pain while experiencing a beautiful voice; the emotional rollercoaster!!
The best and most authentic music video you will ever see.
WOW. Haven't heard this song in years. Almost made me cry.
The last of the song she says " the next time you want to leave her bed for mine...why don't you stay" .in other words stay with his wife cause she's "up off her knees" !! I ❤️ your reaction to her beautiful voice from the get go.
I love that, unlike so many others, they let it keep going and don't stop it.
I'm literally living this song everyday!
I feel like I’m cheating on the other couple reactors, YOU TWO ARE ENTERTAINING AND LOVELY!!!! LOVE FROM CANADA
I absolutely love this song. This is one of my favorite songs to sing at karaoke! Jennifer Nettles is an awesome singer!
That song a great song but according to the CMT interview she did with Christian it's based off of Reba McEntire whoever's in New England the female version
@@blizardt That’s what I’m learning after all of these years.
Thank you for your absolute heartfelt reaction to this song. You two are the bomb. Every time I hear this song I shed tears. Even men go through this with women, I know I did, and it hurts so much. One thing about music, if you don't have the right words, there's always a song to say it when you don't have the words.
Great song...and they have many more, especially more fun upbeat ones!
Another song by Jennifer Nettles that is very emotional is Unlove You... Love y'all's reactions to videos! ❤️
I love how yall do your videos. You don't pause it 50 times like everyone else
I love Sugarland. She is obviously a world class vocalist and this is a sad song but there are a lot of fun ones as well. Thanks for the reaction and I hope you explore more from Sugarland
She tells the man to stay with his wife at the end of the song. Listen. Beautiful artist this lady.
She has the best voice I seen her in concert
I sang this at karaoke, and now I get asked to sing it all the time. I absolutely love this song.
Her name is Jennifer Nettles.
Check out Jennifer’s song, His Hands. Big twist to this song too.
She’s great. I love all of her songs!
You guys are the best. Love your reactions. Great song
Mel, I love your face lmao. You can tell what you are thinking lol. Love it! I love her voice, her name is Jennifer Nettles and you’re right, she showed great emotion in this. I think a lot of women can relate to that pain…. I agree with you Mel, the men can say all the right thing “it isn’t working, I’m leaving her but…”
I was in the same situation at one time, the song hits home…I didn’t stay & now I’m with someone who’s with ME
I've been in this woman's position, and this song hits the heart every time. I ended up with the guy, but it didn't last. The bad part is, he still has a hold on my heart. 😪

Respect boundaries and create some for yourself.
This gets to me & makes me cry every time. I'm goin through this now!
very few songs can bring tears to my eyes. but this one does it every time
Great reaction! I could tell you two were caught up emotionally in the song. Shawn literally reached for the camera once or twice because this woman needed a hug.
So much pain it hurt me! ❤️🩹 Great reaction!
Jennifer Nettles gets a tenth of the recognition she should in country music. She's a force!
Everytime I see that video, it's like unstoppable waterworks for me. And I've never even been cheated on but damn her emotions are so real
I listened to this song all last night and it tore my heart out. Been on both sides of this.
Just total natural talent no makeup as raw as it gets pipes of a goddess
The emotion was real she was doing through a divorce and she was the wife and she wrote this through the other woman's eyes
Similar song, I Never Wanted to be That Girl, a duet showing both sides. Brilliantly done.
This happened to one of my friends for a few years, and it was very blatant. She and the guy were together for several years and had a kid. Every summer, he would go back to his ex because she had money and would buy him things. Eventually both women decided enough was enough and left him.
I don't care how many times I hear the song it always makes me cry
The song is beautifully written, executed, and the raw emotion strikes a chord.
I do want to feel for her with the pain she is enduring, but I also think can we blame a man for that pain? You can't help who you like, but you can help what you do about it. We have to be stronger and not let men use us. We need to become confident in who we are and we need to find our worth without a man before we really pursue any relationship! ❤
This was real for her life. It took multiple takes when they made this video because she kept breaking down. Real life experience for her.
Country music can bring you closer to your family when times are hard.
So she was going through a divorce when she recorded this and so she was really emotional... But in the song shes singing from the perspective of the mistress!
Wow this story makes her even more amazing to be able to go through a divorce and have a heart for the mistress. Beautiful woman
At 5:25 I can see your hearts breaking for her. You have done a great reaction.
The singer is Jennifer Nettles. In real life, her husband cheated on her and she wrote this song from the girlfriends point of view.
Love love LOVE this reaction!!!!!!!!!
I think we can all relate. At some point in your life. Tears for all.
You two are my favorite UA-cam reaction couple. Much love to you guys
Love y'alls reaction! I love how Jennifer could look at it from the other woman's perspective as well as her own when writing this song. You would like "Stuck like glue" by Sugar Land, Its a fun song with!
The day they recorded this, she had just signed divorce paperwork after her husband cheated. Those tears are real.
I absolutely love your reactions. Keep digging in that Country Y'all ❣️
THANK YOU FOR GIVING PEOPLE EXPOSURE TO THIS 💣ASS SONG! Keep up the wonderful work!
Makes me cry every time
So much true and genuine feelings. Even though I'm a guy, I've had this happen to me. But when I found out, I dropped her like a hot potato.. be careful who you trust. May the Living God richly bless and keep you both.
Jennifer Nettles is an Unbelievable Talent. I love her.
Stuck Like Glue is another one you need to check out.
This is certainly why i love country music because 90% tell a story
Love Jennifer Nettles. Pretty lady with an amazing voice. And that accent when she sings, love it!!! I've probably watched this 30 times over the past few years and I still tear up!!!
Jennifer Nettles has serious pipes.. This is one of her best vocals ever... Sugarland was an excellent band. He's from the Busch Beans family btw. Instead of going into the family business he sings with Jennifer.
What's really gives this particular performance credibility is her hubby was cheating on her. Those tears were real.
I cry everytime I hear this and that ain't too often. 😭 🎶💯👍
You need to listen to their song called stuck like glue
Jennifer Nettle, she has a song called "Unlove you" that I love but never see anyone react to.
I haven’t heard this song very much because I haven’t been on the road that much, but it’s a great tune.
Not for a single moment. When I discovered the guy who proposed was married it broke my heart but I walked right then and there.
based on her true story she wrote it. her name is Jenifer Nettles. great voice
in this song she is playing the part of the mistress, Her tears are because her husband just asked for a divorce/
The song is a tear jerker for sure but Jennifer's voice is so beautiful. No special effects just straight natural.
Jennifer Nettles knocked that outta the park!
Sugarland’s “Stay”
Jennifer Nettles Inspired by Reba McEntire's "Whoever's in New England"
by lindsey roznovsky 12/28/2007
Sugarland’s “Stay” is the first of the duo’s chart-topping songs to solely be written by singer Jennifer Nettles.
Hey, I appreciate Y'all! God bless
Dolly Parton's Jolene, Reba and Linda Devis Does He love you are both similar in context.
Amazing reaction! Refreshing guys. Subscribed
