I had this as a kid as I was a G.I. Joe fanatic. I like how each Joe had a specialty- Duke's weapon had the widest spread, Blizzard could fire through walls (came in handy in later levels), Snake Eyes had his sword and his weapon didn't consume ammo, Captain Gird-Iron could take the most damage, Rock N Roll's weapon was the most powerful and General Hawk had his rocket pack. Plus fans of the toys, cartoon and comic could easily identify the enemies such as Alley Vipers, Rock Vipers, Night Creepers and even Cobra-La Royal Guardsmen. You can tell the bosses off the bat. They did a hell of a job being faithful to the source material and this game is an overlooked gem.
Wouldn't that be Werewolf: The Last Warrior instead? :D This made me remember the truly amazing ending that game had; another great candidate would be Bad Dudes, of course. What screams "American" more than eating a burger with the prez himself? ;)
haha Watching you fight Destro almost gave me a stroke. You were just catching those edges there, man. Takes me back to when I used to play this as a kid. I'm going to bust it out tonight.
This was definitely cool to see. I actually have the old issue of Nintendo Power that covers this game, but it was never one I had a chance to pick up. It looked like a lot of fun, and I love the music when you pick up a vehicle. That said though, I felt bad for poor Blizzard. The guy never got a chance to show what he could do.
This game is absolutely brutal near the end. Having to plant 8 bombs while those insufferable missle launching wire soldiers constantly blast you is the worse. That topped with the horrible hit detection during the cobra fight makes it that much worse.
@@dreamlandnightmare im with you mate. had a blast supressing my anarchist tendenceis and had to find a game geni code to remove time limit. only thing I hate about retro games is the timer.
What a lot of people didn't know back then is if you destroy the portion of the ceiling right above the DANGER sign during the stage 2-2 fight, a usable Buzz Boar would fall from it.
"Yo, Joe!" is a familiar yell to those that observe Saturday morning television with any regularity or have younger siblings that run about screaming toy weapons. Taxan's G.I. Joe cart is based on upon the cartoon series that has been running for some time now.
55:39 Easter Egg / nod to the DIC G.I.Joe miniseries where Cobra Commander was restored to human form by the mystical Dragonfire after the events of G.I. Joe The Movie.
Yeah, it's amazing. We had it next to pool tables in one of our school lunchrooms, sometime around 94-95 lol. Damn it's been a long time since I thought about that!
David Samuel Blain Half of Those would have been hard to implement, or just was too hard for an nes to handle a large roster, someone could always make a new gi Joe game.
This game was made in 1990 and the characters in it were based on action figures that were released in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Duke is wearing his Tiger Force uniform from 1988. Snake Eyes and Rock & Roll look like their 1989 redesigns. Blizzard was released in 1988. Capt. Grid-Iron was released in 1990. Hawk's outfit resembles the one worn by his 1991 figure. Hasbro probably wanted the game to promote newer toys instead of featuring older characters whose figures were no longer available in stores.
Have you played the Capcom game Atlantis Factor? I did and it was to me, AMAZING! Surprise, the same development team KID, who also made this incredible game, also made that other game! (:
Both are great but I honestly like this one better over Atlantis factor. Each character has unique rifles, have more life, characters can SHOOT UP, and they have visible stats. The unique abilities for each character and multiple weapons in Atlantis factor somehow feels like it is not enough to improve the gameplay over this one.
i know i beat it a few times as a kid. adult me just got to level 6-1 and gave up cause I hate mazes with time limits. so I'm here to see the last 10 min. protip: the game is meant to be played with SnakeEyes on every team. Ammo conservation isn't crucial but having his infinite bullets and high jump takes a lot of stress out ov gameplay. i always have RockNRoll as a team member as well. his gun is ridiculously powerful as an anarchist I have qualms saying this. but will anyway GO JOE! (and its thin veiled tie with !MER!KAN! military as a recruitment tool) *EDIT* :found a gamegenie code so I beat it on my own :P and am off to Atlantas Factor (with same time remover code)
Next to the actual Metroid this is the definition of the original Metroidvania. Spent many hours here, hated the sequel, it felt like a step backwards from this.
After 1x complete, this games is normal like a first but with only with 1 teammate After 2x complete, this game is harder and enemy attack is 2x stronger 😅

I never knew about Blizzard’s weapon specialty
Fun fact the Blizzard action figures sold so badly that they ended up carnival prizes
For only being 8 bit, this game looked and played pretty good too.
So was I! Funny how some things never leave you- I have an olive green Suzuki Kingquad with GI Joe markings on it.
amazing and timeless game
I love the g.i. joe nes games. After watching this I'm going to play them tonight! Thanks for the upload!
You should join the army after watching these
If you are looking for an NES-style way to celebrate the birth of the world's most powerful nation, I've got two words for you:
YO JOE!
Wouldn't that be Werewolf: The Last Warrior instead? :D This made me remember the truly amazing ending that game had; another great candidate would be Bad Dudes, of course. What screams "American" more than eating a burger with the prez himself? ;)
Marius Amber True. Or, you know, Captain America :) I guess the NES just loves America. It should for what the territory did for its sales.
NintendoComplete YO JOE!!!!
@@NintendoComplete have you played Capcom's 1992 edition (sequel, I know.) of this game?
and now we got a Joe in office as bonus!!
all those vehicles were actual toys too
Very memorable game! A favorite! Taxan had some gems. :)
haha Watching you fight Destro almost gave me a stroke. You were just catching those edges there, man. Takes me back to when I used to play this as a kid. I'm going to bust it out tonight.
É o melhor jogo de todos. Saudades. Parabéns ao jogador.
This is my nostalgia Game 😊 when I was kid
i loved this game back in the day! not sure there were a lot of good taxan games. but this was pretty great.
Well, this one was from KID, both NES games were from them. Seems Taxan, or Naxat, picked up other companies games, and released them for them.
I never played this game as a kid but I just recently discovered it on my retropie. It’s pretty challenging and fun.
Dude these graphics are wicked. Backgrounds and everything are animated this is really really nice

I got lost in the maze in the final level.

now that you said that. i can tell you little me knew that and adult body boy brain me is going to see if you and that little shit are right!
And knowing is half the battle!!!

Happy forth of July to my southern neibours. I'm a huge Snake Eyes fan
I remember you could always cheese the aircraft fight in Antarctica by standing in one spot and throwing grenades above you
You could do the same in the first boss fight against the aircraft in Mission 1. Snake Eyes works best for this; his grenade-toss rate is RIDICULOUS.
43:57 Golobulus from G.I.Joe: The Movie. "The last sound you will hear is the cracking of your vertebrae one by one!!"
Wow this game is awesome. Wasn't into GI Joe as a kid so had never seen it until today.
I remember playing this game at my cousin's house one summer... fun stuff.
Seeing this again makes me feel like a kid again
i loved this game pity storm shadow was not in it but snake eyes was :)
Storm Shadow was in GI Joe: The Alantis Factor.
12:20 If you shoot straight up at the DANGER sign a Buzz Boar will drop down to help you even the odds.
No kidding? I had no idea, thanks!
You're welcome. :-)
Glad someone know this secret
Rock & roll and snake eyes were always my favorites
Cool music!
I can't imagine Golobulus willingly working for Cobra Commander.
55:39 Easter Egg / nod to the DIC G.I.Joe miniseries where Cobra Commander was restored to human form by the mystical Dragonfire after the events of G.I. Joe The Movie.
Have you ever played Konamis arcade G.I Joe game? It's pretty great
Octopuswithcorn there was an arcade game too? Cool
Yeah, it's amazing. We had it next to pool tables in one of our school lunchrooms, sometime around 94-95 lol. Damn it's been a long time since I thought about that!
Ever played the old pc games? Those were also cool. There were vehicle and 1 on 1 battles.
Snake Eyes is throwing a Hadouken!
Great graphics for the era
No Sgt. Slaughter, Quick Kick, Shipwreck, Alpine, Mainframe, Roadblock, Flint, Lady Jaye, Cross Country, Sci-Fi, Deep 6, Bazooka, Beach-head, Gung-Ho, Wet Suit, Lift-Ticket, Mutt, Low-Light, or Wild Bill?
Not even Steeler, Tripwire, & Breaker?
You play Hawk for the final stage
David Samuel Blain Half of Those would have been hard to implement, or just was too hard for an nes to handle a large roster, someone could always make a new gi Joe game.
The closest thing in the olden days you could get with a decent-sized roster was the GI Joe game for the Commodore 64.
David Samuel Blain how could you forget stormshadow. Shame....

i had an old nintendo power for this game .... man i feel old now lol
Rock & Roll maxed out was legit.
Wow, such a neat game but unfortunately I never played it 😲 Have an awesome 4th of July dude! 🇺🇸 👋👽👍
You too man
One of use best nes game
Man I beat the crap outa this game as a kid ..
I always wondered why there had to be people on raised platforms watching the giant screen in the control room.
For the real ending, do you need complete this game 3 times
3rd lap of this game is really a hard difficult
FortunaChan Yeah, you get a special congratulations screen. I included it at the end.
i know i beat it a few times as a kid.
adult me just got to level 6-1 and gave up cause I hate mazes with time limits. so I'm here to see the last 10 min.

Go Joe

Recuerdaso😊😊😊
Do you plan on doing the sequel to this game next year?
I'll definitely be uploading it at some point.
NintendoComplete thanks
I can't wait - The Atlantis Factor is pretty damn awesome!
vgaoct91 what is the difference between the 2 NES games? Sorry but I never played the GI Joe games when I had the nes back in the day!
bill johnson I don’t think he will do that! He does console games! Not arcade stuff.
My birthday today 🎁🎁
Yo Joe! I've beaten it on emulation (the first two quests, but not the third), but I've yet to win on the legit hardware.
Wish this was on Sega Genesis
Next to the actual Metroid this is the definition of the original Metroidvania. Spent many hours here, hated the sequel, it felt like a step backwards from this.
AVGN was supposed to do an Episode on these games
But they were not shitty enough
👍
GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor was the better of the 2 GI Joe games on NES.
You never grabbed the helicopter/plane at 6min mark with snake eyes...
This game came from Japan nes i saw it when i was highschooldays
is knowing realy half the battle?
krystalfan If you're GI Jose, probably even more so.
