I had never played the first Mega Man back in the day, but as soon as I saw this game in Nintendo Power, I knew I had to have it. Bought it with my birthday money when it came out in the summer of 89. I have fond memories of my best friend and the time and I having a sleepover and staying up to beat it. I also remember we thought Mega Man had died at the end, given how he just kind of fades away, leaving only his helmet, and how the music playing while he was walking sounded kind of sad. Lots of memories tied to this one.
I bought a used Megaman CD at a flea market it has all the Megaman games from the old Nintendo. There's 10 different Megaman games on it. Gave $5 for it. Money well spent! II and III are my favorites. I have Megaman I to Megaman X on that CD.
This soundtrack is legendary, it’s far and away the best of the whole NES saga. The “guitar”-solo in Air Man’s stage might be the best part of any song in any Mega Man game.
And the entire first Wiley theme just stands on its own as an absolute banger. It doesn't matter what you're doing -- if that tune is playing, you're on a legendary mission. I could be folding laundry or shaving and I'd be like "let's fucking GOOOOOOOOOO"

As amazing as the first Mega Man was, Mega Man 2 blew everyone away with just how much of an improvement it was over the original. Can you really call yourself an NES fan if you haven't played this classic?
I swear everything you said in your description is accurate as hell. This one is my favorite in the series but I don't blame anyone for liking part 3 more. When I was a kid, I was blown away by these graphics. I felt like I was playing a cartoon. But you are right, those bosses at wilys castle are unfair. I absolutely hate that wall and even the last guy, though fairly easy, can get you raged if you don't have the bubble. The music is some of the best the nes has to offer. Wilys castle alone is proof of that.
Yeah, these graphics were unbelievable when it was new. Some of those end bosses, like the dragon and the Guts Man tank, have so much personality to them, let alone how they dwarf the bosses in many 16-bit games! Capcom became awesome on NES after they started developing their own games.
I can complete this game straight from memory. One of the few games I'm still able to do so (once upon a time, I could beat Mike Tyson no problem. Not anymore). Still has the best music from the entire series, too.
The metal-man blade is the most over-powered weapon in the game, I always went there first or second after air man. You can pretty much waste every other stage and boss with him except for quick and crash man. Try bubble man against heat man next time. Much easier.
Wow. The nostalgia! Pure magic back then. Remember getting this for Christmas the year it was released, and I just couldn't believe it! Total happiness! What a fantastic, amazing game. One of the best ever made for NES. Spent countless hours with it. And got pretty good I think ;-) And the music! Just sticks with you even to this day, doesn't it? Epic. Such a well made game. Thanks for posting this!
This game rocked my youth! Will always be my #1 even above Mario and Zelda which are also awesome. The gameplay of this, music, level selection, vibrant colors and cool bosses made it very addicting! I was so obsessed back in the day that I would make collages of Mega Man and design my own characters…
This game, Mega Man 2, was on a VHS tape with tips and tricks on getting a high score. It was some of those Kodak VHS video tapes. It had Wizards & Warriors, Mega Man 2, Platoon, Top Gun & Metal Gear. It was called How to Score More Points On Nintendo Games #1 in 1989.
Some NES games have SO much better graphics than others where the artists had a specific style and understood how to make beautiful sprites and pixel art. Megaman is one of those that stands out so far ahead of the rest.
This game is still my favorite of the series. I think a lot of it is nostalgia, but every time I play it also just feels so good, and the music is perfect. I actually got it first, because the original was such a limited release in the States. But when they re-released Megaman I went out and got it. I was pretty disappointed at first, since it had two less robot masters and not even a picture of a Wily Castle. But I grew to appreciate the magnet beam and the abilities of the weapons and the difficulty. Never did like that "sliding" bug when trying to stop after picking up a power-up capsule, though.
I just recently got this game again to show my kids, and after all these years, I can't believe I remembered the code for get directly to Wily's castle. Also, doesn't bubbles work better vs heatman?
Here are my overviews of the master weapons and items from Mega Man 2: P Shooter - Standard weapon. Infinite Bullets (obviously). Air Shooter (A) - This weapon can be good against airborne enemies, Crash Man, the fire enemies in Quick Man's stage and those Sniper Walkers in Flash Man's stage...but it also consumes 2 bars of ammo.....which means you can use Air Shooter a total of 14 times before it runs out of ammo. Crash Bomber (C) - This CAN be a nice weapon (since it blows walls out) and can be a pretty good choice to use against Quick Man, Flash Man and the Sniper Walkers. However, it's ammo consumption is pretty high (4 bars per use), which means you can use it a total of 7 times before it runs out. Time Stopper (F) - This can be useful in freezing enemies and traps (to bypass them). However, you can't switch weapons while Time Stopper is in use. Quick Boomerang (Q) - This is actually a pretty good weapon to use on those ground "springer" enemies that roam in some stages (and most of the enemies in the game). Also, it's ammo consumption is 1/8th of an weapon energy bar per use (making it a tie with this Boomerang and Screw Crusher for the lowest weapon energy bar ammo consumption in the entire Mega Man (Classic) Series). That's 224 uses of Quick Boomerang, mind you! (28 times 8 is 224). Quick Boomerang can also auto-fire and you can fire 4 Quick Boomerangs maxmium). Metal Blade (M) - If there's one thing that the Mega Man (Classic) Series has taught me, it's that any weapon that starts with "blade" is OP beyond belief. Metal Blade is no exception. This weapon is probably the most OP weapon in the entire Mega Man (Classic) Series, bar none (there are multiple reasons for that). 1: You can fire in 8 directions - that's right, I said EIGHT directions. 2: It's ammo consumption is ridiculously low (it takes off 1/4th of an weapon energy bar per use, meaning you have 112 uses before you can run out. (Metal Blade is tied with Needle Cannon for the third lowest weapon energy ammo consumption in the entire Mega Man (Classic) Series). 3: It's decently powerful, it affects 4 of the bosses in the game and it affects all but 3 of the regular enemies in the game. 4: Due to a glitch, you can never run out if you use Metal Blade: use Metal Blade 3 times, pause and you should see the weapon energy bar not go down at all - it's called the "Infinite Weapon Ammo Glitch" for that reason. (I believe Shadow Blade and Needle Cannon has the "Infinite Weapon Ammo Glitch" too, although I believe you have to do the "Infinite Weapon Ammo Glitch" in Mega Man 3 slightly different from the one in Mega Man 2).
Oh Mega Man 2. So perfect. So right. So magical. It really does deserve all the praise it gets. It did so much for gaming. It came out in 1989 in the US and was so innovative. Later entries would only slightly improve on the formula, but lack the magic of Mega Man 2.
As a kid I had Mega Man 2 for game boy, which had some of the enemies from this game and some of the ones from Mega Man 3. It was one of my favorite game boy games growing up. The music, as well as all the OC ReMixes, are awesome

Many gamers never realized that the 'Normal' mode was added for the US release, and that the 'Difficult' mode was the default difficulty in the original Japan version.
I do so love Mega Man 2, and the soundtrack is nothing short of legendary. What can I say that those 80s kids who praised this to Hell and back haven't? Nintendo Power and all those old dudes say that Mega Man 2 is their favorite in the series, as it introduced all the mainstay elements like 8 instead of 6 Robot Masters and the Wily Castle map screens and the spiritual predecessor to Rush, the "Items". Who doesn't dig MM2? It's great. A little on the easy side, but awesome to play, even today.
I have to admit that when I beat this game back in the day, I didn't really understand all the advantages that these various weapons had. I mean I figured out some of them, but mostly I was using the P shooter and figuring out how to jump at the right time to out-perform these bosses.
Megan man 2 music best of all time all mega man's soundtracks nothing compared this game mega man 2 should win award for everything music gameplay storyline adventure action game beginning to end perfect game challenging as well love it
I remember when I grabbed the first Mega Man at a flea market none of my friends had it or knew what it was. We got hooked on completing it and I was the first one to do so eventually. I got older and then had a Sega then PS2 and Xbox I never knew how many more Mega Man games were made until 20 years later. I'm now playing 4 for the first time
Megaman 2 was always my favorite Megaman game because the way it is, and it had a lot of memories, I had Megaman 1 and when I saw Megaman 2 I knew I had to have it it is very special to me and have beaten it like a thousand times, the desructive walls were always the worst one I played and overall it is a very special game to me.
Superb skills as always. I've asked to use footage from your videos in my own video in the past, is it okay if I use some clips from this video as well? It's for a video about why Megaman 2 got so much more praise than the first game. I have a capture card but it has a really bad lag when I try to use it with the NES.
Thanks! And sure thing, I don't mind. Just please credit the footage. Oh and here's a big tip for capturing from a console. The capture introduces a lot of lag, so to play it, just split the signal. Get a couple of Y splitters for the NES's video and audio leads, then plug one set into the capture box and the other set directly to the TV. Then hit record on the computer and play on the TV like normal, and the lag on the computer won't be a problem. Nothing like low tech solutions to high tech problems, right? :) And since lag won't be an issue, then you can turn on things that would normally would be prohibitively slow in real time - stuff like adaptive filtering, deinterlacing filters, color correction, or whatever else you want to use to process the picture.
@@NintendoComplete Ah a splitter! There we go, you're right, I was thinking of capturing from the TV but there's no video out. Thanks a lot. And yes, of course I'll credit you in the description.
Alidar Jarok No doubt :) You ought to grab yourself a copy of 3 if you like this one. It plays a lot like 2 but it made some big improvements. It's definitely my favorite of the 6.
Arguably the greatest soundtrack of the 2D gaming era. Megaman 3 soundtrack was damn close, and Megaman 1 and 4 also had great tunes, but 2 has that extra level of compositional mastery that is untouched. Hardest Wiley Levels too, but the easiest robot fights. You combine the music of 2, the UI and level design of 3, the gameplay of 4 and boss design from each, you’d have the perfect Megaman game.
My brothers and I were playing MegaMan 2 and we couldn't beat some of the bosses. We kept trying different codes and nothing really worked. My sister wanted to try. She was a smart four year-old. In one attempt - her first try, she enters a code that gives us 4 Es, a bunch of lives, all weapons, and takes us to Dr. Wily's stage. Then after she entered the code and shocks and impresses us, my mom came in and makes us turn it off. It was a huge disappointment.
You must change the video title to: " MEGAMAN 2 RIGHT ROBOT MASTER ORDER ", THANK GOD, I FOUND YOUR VIDEO ! That game only has the TRUE ORDER playing in the DIFFICULT mode, the right Order is : AIRMAN > CRASHMAN > FLASHMAN > QUICKMAN > METALMAN > BUBBLEMAN > HEATMAN > WOODMAN That is a correct order, people shoot CRASH BOOMBER direct into Flash Man, but is wrong ! You need shoot the Crash Bomber on the steeps ( like this 10:43 ) and make FLASH MAN be hit buy the explosions, the same shit on QUICKMAN ( TIMER STOPPER and CRASH BOMBER 14:44 )
Bubble Man, Air Man, Wood Man (I use Air Man's weapon on it), Crash Man (I use Wood Man 's weapon during the board and use Air Man's weapon on Crash Man), Flash Man (I use Crash Man's Crash Bombers on some walls), Heat Man (I use Crash Man's Crash Bombers on some walls and use Bubble Man's weapon on Heat Man), Metal Man and Quick Man (I'll use Flash Man's freeze in a section) in my order of play, when then the Dr Wiley event.
Oh, Mega Man 2.....how I loved it SO much as a kid.....but now MY favorite Mega Man (Classic) game is Mega Man 4......(yeah, I know Mega Man 4 gets some hate for NO reason/very stupid reasons).......but yeah, I still love Mega Man 2 as well....even if the Metal Blade IS RIDICULOUSLY BROKEN. No, anybody shouldn't consider themselves an NES fan without playing Mega Man, Mega Man 2, Mega Man 3, Mega Man 4, Mega Man 5 (to a reasonable extent), Mega Man 6, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2 (USA) and Super Mario Bros 3 at least once (and more, but I would be all day if I tried to list the classics here). Fun piece of trivia: I actually played and OWNED Mega Man 2 as the first Mega Man in the Mega Man (Classic) Series - when I was around 9 or so. Another piece of trivia: This is going to sound funny, but I thought there was SIX or so separate Mega Mans in the Mega Man (Classic) NES Series (you know, one Mega Man for each game), but once I was in my late teens/early twenties, I figured that "oh, wait, there's ONLY one Mega Man in the Mega Man (Classic) NES Series"! (Blame my 9 year old mind for that). Had I played every Mega Man (Classic) game as a 9 year old, I would've thought that there was TWENTY or so Mega Mans in the entire Mega Man (Classic) Series.
Truthfully, imo I think the game is perfect. Like, literally perfect. I think this is the only videogame I have ever played where I have 0 negative thoughts on it

Among the best Title Screen BGMs on the NES... :)
My very first issue of Nintendo Power was the MegaMan 2 cover. Had to get the game asap!
50:29 Mega man dosen't even want to look at Dr. Wily, Damn XD
50:42 these images and this music, it's beautiful
I grew up with mega man 3. I must of luck out on this game.
*must have* , not "must of" .
This is a MUST have collector Item...
Yes you missed a great game my favorite of all time mega man 2
5:50 why did you skip out on the free guy?
Hey, this wouldn’t be from the Switch version of Megaman Legacy Collection, would it?
JohnnyOTGS No, genuine NES hardware.
This MegaMan series is just so much fun and cool! I've played all parts til the pc versions
19:37 Ryu and Ken are playing Megaman 2 from Street Fighter Assassin's Fist
Gotta love that this is also on the NES Classic!!!
Surprising really how big some of the sprites near the end of the game were for something of this era.
49:34 That looks like a new character!
Why does no one ever use Air Shooter with Quick Man?
Mega Man 2 was the peak of the series.
Megan man 2 music best of all time all mega man's soundtracks nothing compared this game mega man 2 should win award for everything music gameplay storyline adventure action game beginning to end perfect game challenging as well love it
The end broke me!! I’m 43!!
Which is the hardest Path?
I remember when I grabbed the first Mega Man at a flea market none of my friends had it or knew what it was. We got hooked on completing it and I was the first one to do so eventually. I got older and then had a Sega then PS2 and Xbox I never knew how many more Mega Man games were made until 20 years later. I'm now playing 4 for the first time
All these years later, it’s still shocking how pathetically easy the robot masters are.
I played this game on the NES at the Fitness Center in 2002.
One of the best Mega Man games of all time!!
The best!!!
Not sure why you wasted the rocket board so early on. Always made sense to use it over the lava stream.
I remember in the "Woodman" level we called those bats butt sniffers lol
Nice play 😃 I’m almost there maybe this week I’ll pass the game 👾😩
The very first Mega Man game I ever played back in 1991 and I loved the series ever since.
I will write one Hell of a script about this Mega Man World! Show it on the big screen by this time next year, and you will all not be disappointed!!!
one of the best games in history
This game has some of the best graphics I've ever seen
Um, you must be extremely nostalgia blinded. There are video games with much better graphics than this.
@@Jammer439y8 Graphics aren't everything, pal
@@Jammer439y8 he said I’ve ever seen not we’ve ever seen
@@Jammer439y8 he might not have seen a better looking game than this.
What's the difference between normal and difficult? I am nearly through with normal and wondering if it's worth to try it in difficult.
30:30 Dr. Wily can't drive for shit.
One of the best of all-time. Still not as good as me playing though.
Lol
The only one of the first 6 on the nes I own. Such a fun game.
Alidar Jarok Yeah, it really is. I still need to get a proper full copy of this one. I have 1, 3, 4 and 6 with their boxes and manuals though :)
Very nice. I just have the cart for 2. I am happy with that. lol
Alidar Jarok No doubt :) You ought to grab yourself a copy of 3 if you like this one. It plays a lot like 2 but it made some big improvements. It's definitely my favorite of the 6.
The way you did Heat Man's stage, no chance for me. Item 2 over that gap with the blocks, nonstop ride till the floor is back underneath me.
You combine the music of 2, the UI and level design of 3, the gameplay of 4 and boss design from each, you’d have the perfect Megaman game.
you're good megaman 2 has an amazing soundtrack
one of the best games on NES for sure
My brothers and I were playing MegaMan 2 and we couldn't beat some of the bosses. We kept trying different codes and nothing really worked. My sister wanted to try. She was a smart four year-old. In one attempt - her first try, she enters a code that gives us 4 Es, a bunch of lives, all weapons, and takes us to Dr. Wily's stage.
Then after she entered the code and shocks and impresses us, my mom came in and makes us turn it off. It was a huge disappointment.
I always go with Metal Man first, then Bubble, Flash, Wood, Air, Crash, Heat, and do Quick last.
To this day i'm surprised nobody ever modded flash man to give him a creeper trenchcoat
You must change the video title to: " MEGAMAN 2 RIGHT ROBOT MASTER ORDER ", THANK GOD, I FOUND YOUR VIDEO ! That game only has the TRUE ORDER playing in the DIFFICULT mode, the right Order is :
AIRMAN > CRASHMAN > FLASHMAN > QUICKMAN > METALMAN > BUBBLEMAN > HEATMAN > WOODMAN
That is a correct order, people shoot CRASH BOOMBER direct into Flash Man, but is wrong ! You need shoot the Crash Bomber on the steeps ( like this 10:43 ) and make FLASH MAN be hit buy the explosions, the same shit on QUICKMAN ( TIMER STOPPER and CRASH BOMBER 14:44 )
The best NES Mega Man. So fun.
That would go to 4 in my opinion. 2 has some awful design choices (mainly in the Wily stages) and the game is just too easy overall
@@amso7169 still fun though
@@Jackattack359
Ye i agree, i can at least have a fun time in most parts
@@Jackattack359 Yup.
I wonder how many people played this game and at the end beiefly thought "My gosh, Wiley's an alien?!"
Would have been an interesting plot twist.
Played this growing up best Megaman ever
The game that introduced me to the Blue Bomber, and made me the passionate fan I am today.
Bubble man stage has the best music
Overall this is still my favourite Mega Man game, but I think Mega Man 3 has the better soundtrack.
Truthfully, imo I think the game is perfect. Like, literally perfect. I think this is the only videogame I have ever played where I have 0 negative thoughts on it
I, myself, would give this game a 10/10 and the last boss with Dr. Wily is awesome!
50:06 "Wanna Hear the most annoying sound in the world?"
