  • Hello guys this video is just going to cover how I did my budget big brake kit on my e46 v8 project for under £500.I noticed I didn’t have the budget to get csl rotors which are 345mm and I didn’t want to have to compromise the brake pad surface by using the stock M3 rotors which are 325mm so this is what I decided instead.
    Costs are a big factor as always so this is the breakdown;
    - discs (340mm) £85 new
    - full set of 4 callipers (340mm) £300+£20pp but only used the fronts and sold the rears so spent £150
    - spacers (or washers) £3
    - Stud set conversion £25
    TOTAL= £263+ Tlc hours ;)
    So after doing some research from forums and other videos the brakes which were a direct bolt on were the 340mm brakes from the f30 which are standard on some M sport BMWs from the E9x generation
    F30 brake callipers from performance spec car (M car)
    Part numbers are as following for the callipers;
    Left calliper-
    BMW - OE-34 10 6 855 476
    BMW - OE-34 10 6 855 478
    BMW - OE-34 10 6 855 480
    BMW - OE-34 11 6 799 466
    BMW - OE-34 11 6 850 932
    BMW - OE-34 11 6 865 538
    Right calliper-
    BMW - OE-34 10 6 855 475
    BMW - OE-34 10 6 855 477
    BMW - OE-34 10 6 855 479
    BMW - OE-34 11 6 799 465
    BMW - OE-34 11 6 850 931
    BMW - OE-34 11 6 865 537
    I used the 340mm brake discs from a t5 transporter van as they have the same bolt pattern which is 5x120 and are the closest to the original rotor on the f30 with a smaller hat height to match the e46 hub. (link below to ebay where i sourced my discs)
    www.ebay.co.uk...
    If you have a bigger wheel hub size then you’d have to get the centre hub rebored to 79mm as the discs come with the 76mm diameter and the top hat is slightly different so you’d have to have an offset of -3mm
    You’d also need a washer to space the brake from calliper which is;
    - 0.9mm for the standard e46
    - 6.44mm for the M3 and Z4
    Also note that only certain 18" wheels will accommodate the set up unless you go up a size to 19s or have wheel spacers to create an offset.
    I will update this for the future if this also fits for e30-36 hubs if i get a chance to try it. Again thank you for watching. Subscribe for more content like this.

    Center hub on e46 is 72.5, what rotors you bought?
    Every transporter t5 340mm rotor have 76mm bore.
    Im confused, why you rebored it to 79 if e46 have 72.5?

    So basically if i have those calipers, to fit them on my e46 M3 id just need Transporter T5 340mm rotors and F30 brake lines? No need to trim pads at all?
    How is it braking so far? Did u use stock E46 M3 rear brakes? That didnt mess with ur brake bias too much?

      Also, do you rly need a stud set? U put spacers between the caliper and hub or between caliper and bolt?

      Yes so I had to get the internal diameter trimmed down to match the hub size which was roughly 76.5 or something like that I’ll try find it for you and that allowed the T5 rotates to fit perfectly and yes the brake lines were also fine I did change to braided lines but still all working and they perform really well and no bias still works as normal just very sharp now. I have the stock rear e46 m3 brakes which are still working perfectly

      I only have studs as my wheel offset didn’t clear but if you have some offset wheels built for a bigger brake set up they should be fine
