When I bought my Bernina serger (1150 MDA), I was given about 15 minutes training on it when I picked it up! I forgot everything she taught me about it! when I got home! I opened up the manual and went through it over and over multiple times. It took me months to get comfortable with it, but once I finally learned how to use it I never stopped! Now I can even do wired ribbon! Just get out your manual or even watch UA-cam videos on it by typing in the name brand of it and see what comes up. You won't regret it!
Aww I can't believe you put my little mini quilt in your video 😍 so glad you like it.
I love it! It stays in my room always :)
Talking about how to organize my fabrics and all about sewing and there you are...thank you.😂❤
Careful! They're listening!!!
Just found your channel today, now subscribed already 🤩while working on my cloth pads, and you inspired me, how can I make my working space a happy beautiful place to work. Currently I am using part of our dining place and living room on my sewing -cloth pads. And yes I have cats 🐈 that’s always trying to invade my working space and I’m always begging on them to let me work in peace because I am doing these stuff for them 🥰 because I can’t help but just love them
I love the newer manual crank or electric tables that can go up and down!
If you can’t afford brand new or wanna save space in the landfills, I like furniture from second hand or thrift stores. I have lots of storage options bought that way and it is good if you have a slim budget.
Would love to know how you organize and store your zippers and zipper tape.
That cabinet of fun fabric and all that vinyl. 2 Berninas. All that storage. I'm literally drooling!!! I know you didn't build all of it overnight but it just seems that I'll never get to that place. But I'm not giving up. You inspire me ☺️
2 dogs and 3 cats? Same here! I know this wasn’t meant to be a tutorial, but I’m using it as one. We’re building a house and I’ll finally have my own craft room. I need storage tips!
Awww we love our fur babies! I hope this helped!
Oh my goodness! My hubby (bless his heart 😊) always tries to sneek into my very disorganized sewing room to organize it! 😁
Thank you for that wonderful tour of your crafting space . For you to say that the size, or where, does not matter is a great positive statement for many to hear.
Fun video! Always fun to see another crafters space. After my kids were grown and launched, I turned their play room into my sewing space. Only thing I wondered about on your video is when you said you had distilled water for your iron. Maybe your iron is different, but all of the irons I own specifically state DO NOT use distilled water. I am constantly rearranging and updating my fabric studio and my most recent addition was to buy a large white tool box from Home Depot to use as my ironing center. I covered a piece of plywood with batting and iron-board fabric and placed it on the top for a large ironing surface. The drawers below hold all the pressing sheets, etc that I like to have close at hand when pressing.
Move your ironing board to the end of your cutting board to see if that extension is what you want. Love your room. So happy to hear your husband supports you in your creativity.
Thanks for the tip!
I was afraid of the serger too. ☺️..I asked my bernina machine dealer to give me a lesson and recorded it with my phone and read the manual- now I use the serger more than I thought I would..I love it now now.
Your sewing room is beautiful.
Oh gee, when I found your sewing room video, I admit that even though I like sewing room tours, I thought, "good grief, another one?" I had become tired of the UBER-glamorous, perfectly organized, exquisite rooms that people with (apparently) unlimited budgets can set up. But yours is different; it's delightful and so are you. And you won me over when in so many words you said your sewing room is always a work in progress. I loved that because that’s how mine is too. I'm always looking for a better way to organize or store my stuff; whatever would we do without our "stuff"?
In addition to quilting and regular sewing, I love vintage Kenmore machines and have 8 of them at this point as well as the 1948 White rotary Model 77 that my mother used when she taught me to sew over 60 years ago. So I REALLY have to plan my storage! But I have a place for all of them and I don't just store them, I use and maintain them. I have three modern electronic machines as well (I'm a machine addict) which I use most of the time, but the vintage ones are so much fun! I can't resist them. My husband has golf and I have sewing. He looks at me like I have three heads when another vintage machine comes in the house and makes some funny snarky comment until I remind him that he has at least 200 golf clubs! (Works every time😁)
I was intrigued about you needing extra room for an industrial machine. I get the impression you and your hubby are very clever about building your own tables, etc. So, rather than extending anything, why don't you get some heavy-duty drawer rails, figure out how to mount them underneath your cutting table so that you can have an ironing board that slides out from under the top? It could be a 1/2" piece of plywood cut to size and covered with cotton batting and muslin or even the silver-type fabric frequently used on ironing boards. You could add drop-down-legs under the front of it for support. Wish I had a handy husband. I'm good with ideas but not so much with construction.
Like you, I have a serger that I don't use. It doesn't frighten me, I just don't need it much as I mostly use twin needles and stretch stitches when making knit garments. Guess I should sell it.
Thanks again for the inspiring video; now I’m going to take another look at my room and see what I can improve!
Hey, first timer here. I love your honesty; I can relate in so many ways. New subscriber!
I love your sewing room. I love watching your videos. You are changing my focus on sewing clothes to sewing bags.
Oh thank you!
I know what you mean about tidying up at the end of the day. Sometimes my craft room looks like an explosion went off and I'm still working away. BUT, at the end of the day, it all gets cleaned up so when I walk in the room in the morning, it's like a breath of fresh air. It is also my favorite space in the house. I home school 5 grandchildren so I desperately need a soothing piece of space so I don't lose my mind or cause harm (just kidding, kinda). Love to watch your videos. I still play the one creating a mask where you start off..."this is day 150+ of the quarantine, oh wait, it's only day 10..." I so connected with that statement since all my grandchildren have been with me since quarantine started....all day long....every day...6-7 days a week... but I love them and so glad I can help my daughters with their children.
GIRL, YOU HAVE HONESTLY INSPIRED ME SO MUCH TODAY, I GOT FIRED FROM A JOB WHERE I WAS LEARNING HOW TO SEW AND YOUR VIDEOS REALLY PICKED ME UP!!
Jess, no need for a fancy new sewing machine, or industrial machine. Just find yourself an older Singer 201 machine! It was nicknamed the "Rolls Royce of sewing machines" for a reason because Rolls Royce actually used it for sewing their leather interiors! It's a brute of a machine and can easily sew through several layers of denim and leather! Loved your tour!
I keep hearing about that Singer! I'll have to look into it! Thank you!
Yes, cleaning up the space so that it's ready for the next sewing day is essential for creativity. Even if I'm tired, my goal is to leave it neat for next time. I do use a label maker because if I don't I waste alot of time looking for some things. I also have some notes in my journal that I keep to remind me where certain things are, like the Christmas ribbon and fabric that I bought on clearance and I stashed in a bin. Love your room.
Beautiful sewing room. White is a light and neutral background for your colorful fabrics. So these ones are easier to chose.
Thanks from France
Thank you for being real; I thought I had a lot of fabric, you win! Lol. I think your Juki TL-2010-Q is a semi-industrial sewing machine. I need to organize my bag hardware. I don't believe we have an Ikea in Hawaii, or at least there's none near my location. I definitely need to organize my fabric into colors. Thanks for the advice that Aurifil is great for quilts; Gutermann Thread is great for bag making. I tend to agree because sometimes my sewing machine and thread argue depending on what the project is. My sewing hobby has taken over the house too.
I love that that you use items that you had to store items, not buying everything new. It adds personality to your room . So far in the videos of sewing rooms, no one seems to show those that have yards of the same fabric. I’m not a quilter ( yet) and when I buy a fabric, I tend to buy 8-10 yards of it. These can’t be stored in little boxes . I love your sewing room and I like the pegboard system as you can see where the important items are
You’re crafty space is #Goals. Thank you for sharing your space.
I love ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ all your room and mess and everything else 😜😜😜😜 I wish have your space in the house 🏡🏡🏡
I thought I had a lot of fabric. I guess most of us did. Thank you for the tour. You have a beautiful place for a beautiful person. Thank you for everything you do for us 💗
OMG what a fantastic sewing room, I would sleep, eat and sew sew sew in that room lol, I wish I had one shelf of fabric, you are sooooo lucky x
I didn’t touch my serger for one week, then I got the courage up and I love it! I like your craft area. TFS
Love your video and sewing space. I too enjoy the white background. Have you seen Jean Truelove she is a quilter but also now makes bags. She has a new machine to sew the heavy material for the bags.
Thank you for showing us where you create!
Love sewing area tours!
Hola,me encanta tu cuarto d costuras..Felicitaciones. 👏👏🙋♀️🤗.Desde bella vista Tucumán Argentina.
We enjoyed Saint Augustine so much when we were there a few years ago. We ended up staying a couple extra days so we could see the sights. Also, I love your craft room! I am going to adopt many of your ideas when I get mine together. We just moved in are remodeling so all of my craft supplies are still boxed up. I can’t wait to be set up and be able to craft again!
I had no idea you lived in St. Augustine. My husband lives in Green Cove Springs. We go to St. Augustine all the time. My Quilt Studio is also almost exclusively furnished from Ikea. Except my cutting table is a 72" bathroom vanity. I have six drawers and then the big space in the middle is batting and Soft N Stable.
Since my husband lives away, I took over my Formal Living Room for my studio. It faces South and has two glorious windows. At one point my living room and dining room were connected with an opening. When my daughter lived here, her scrapbook room was in the dining room. She lives with her fiance now so when I moved my parents in, I got a "dining room" set. A large cabinet that spanned the opening, a dresser that serves as z buffet and a curio made of shutters, windows and corrugated tin. Then, a big table and chairs. They're all distressed in the same paint. My mom hates them, but I got a big crystal chandelier for her. So when I did my studio I got a 5x5 Kallax that covered up the back of the China cabinet.
St. Augustine has the only stained glass shop that I have found in the Southeast. We used to have two in Pensacola, where I live, but both were closed. The last time I went to St. Augustine it was too find that shop. It's small, but really cool.
Ooooo I need to check out this shop!
For my cutting table I got a basic height adjustable shop table from Lowe’s, but then my hubby attached a quality piece particle board to the top of the table so I could get a larger cutting space. I put contact paper over the board before putting my massive mat on top. It has made a huge difference having enough space.
This video just popped up on my home page and I am so glad that it did. Your sewing room looks amazing! I live in Jacksonville so it is nice to see someone in the area.
Sewing room are always a work in progress, you are always reorganizing and thinking of better ways to work better, or is it just me?! Loved it, wonderful space!
I LOVE your new kid in town ( I mean the Bernina ) .
I am thinking about getting a Bernina as well .
Oh my you are fully stocked 😍😍 i wish I had a cousin or aunty like you. If love to spend time with someone like you 🥰
I am impressed! As a recycling artist and a new youtuber, space and organization is a struggle for me. I am definitely getting the wall organizer and jars. Thanks for sharing
That's amazing that you are a recycling artist!!
Jess, you are just such a bright ray of sunshine for us sewists,, quilters, embroiderers. Thanks for sharing your insights, thoughts, and expertise in such a fun, casual way! Thanks for helping me through Covid by inspiring me!
If you want to raise a table to make it a perfect height, put bed risers under the table legs. That way if you need to use the table for a regular use, just take the table off the risers. It works so great!
Ill have to try that. Thanks!
I love your space! I love the glass doors so you can see your fabrics 🥰
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful sewing room. You are indeed blessed.💞
You still have a lot of space in your fabric cabinets! Perhaps look at other ways of folding your fabric so they take up less space and you can fill the cabinets better. You might be able to condense everything from that one by your front door in with the others. :) I love your idea of color coding your scraps in clear jars. I currently have them all mixed in and it takes forever to find what I need.
Love how bright and sunny your room is! Thank you for this peek into your studio. :)
Great space! Love that your fixtures are white. It really makes it cohesive. I love my industrial sewing machine. They are such work horses!
Your craft room is so organized! I am into many crafts and I have taken over 2 bedrooms and the dining room. One of the bedrooms is my storage room and I have metal racks and a lot of those fabric cubes and plastic tubs. I have tons of yarn and fabric and paint canvasses and paint, and paracord spools, and macrame cord, and jump rings for chainmaille. I do my sewing on the dining room table and have a table behind me for cutting and ironing. I think I just need a separate house for all my craft supplies so I can keep my house from looking like a tornado went through it! You inspire me! The problem, is when I clean everything up, I can't find it!!! :)
Thank you for sharing your space with us. I love my sewing room, it is my space to decompress and be creative at the same time. My sewing has spilled over into a guest room for additional storage, no matter how much I organize I still feel there is not enough room. I feel blessed to have the space that I have and blessed I have a husband who accepts the strings that might be found here and there and allows me the time I need for "me" time in the sewing room.
Love, love, love that you saw the opportunity to convert your dining room into your sewing studio. Repurpose those unused rooms.
Juki makes some amazing industrial machines. I have a serger and a 8700 series which is more for everyday medium weight and light sewing, but I have done some pretty heavy bag stuff on it. I also have a used LU 563 it is amazing it is a walking foot machine you can sew really heavy bag stuff on it. I see used models alot on fb market place . Or 2 of mine came from a guy who fixes industrial machines. Definetly go for it you will love them!!
DESTASH DESTASH DESTASH! I am in awe of your fabric and hardware collection🥰 I’ve just received my first order of custom fabric and I am addicted and it’s 100% because of you and this channel! I love you for it, my bank account not so much 😂 but if you were doing a DESTASH I would 100% be on it! ⭐️
Glad to hear about your pets! We have SIX house cats, and one is my special sewing room mascot. She sees to it that I sew at least a bit every day!!
Love it!!
Thank you for this! and believe me it's grand!
Clear Avery labels are great for labeling. They peel off very easily and don’t leave any residue-even after being run through the dishwasher heat cycle.
So beautiful!! Love it. I just started learning to sew in May and somehow discovered your channel in trying to find beginner sewing videos and now I'm hooked on making bags lol. My sewing space right now is my kitchen table and somehow I'm managing to make it work.Thank you for the tour and thank you for all your tutorials.
Kandi Abolurin I was at my kitchen table for about 10 years then we moved and I have confiscated part of the bonus room for my sewing area. Good luck to you in your sewing endeavors. I love making bags and quilts.
I'm so happy you're here Kandi!
I'm at my kitchen table too! It's covered with fabric and stuff in little baskets & bowls. I'm going to need a bigger boat, er table.... :-)
Okay I really love you, this video, and your ability to radiate inspiration in every breath! I think I’ve shared before I’m a fiber and textile artist with a studio where I teach this glorious craft! I always enjoy to watch others who teach, influence and inspire! I so relate to your style-I love color, and a bright and organized room! It does take effort to stay organized -but we’ll worth the effort! I find lately without a clean organized space -I flounder and simply do not enjoy the process as much!
Lastly, you can’t fake joy! As a teacher my students always respond to the love I bring to the table! That’s what makes people want to learn and hop on this creative ride! Thanks for spreading that love and joy-May it return right back to ya!❤️🧵✂️
I loved your video! I love your sense of humor also. Your videos are great to watch and you do a great job. Your sewing room video was helpful to me with all the ideas I am ready to work on mine. I did catch you saying you put distilled water in your iron. Please check your manual as most irons tell you not to use distilled water. I have a cordless Panasonic and it warns against distilled water. Thanks again for great videos and keep up the great work!!
Awesome room. 👍❤️Thank you for the tour💕💕💕💕love it.
You should do some “use up your scraps” videos! Sewing miscellaneous mini projects
Lucky you have IKEA...they don’t have one here in Hawaii..so I’ve ever been to one but would love to go! Nice room!
Don't be scared of your serger. LOL I had one i bought from a friend for at least 3 years that I was scared to use. I just pulled it out a few months ago and watched UA-cam videos and it really wasn't that bad. Looks like we have the same one.. So now I try to find easy projects to use with it. Your craft room is awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Super it looks fab I have an industrial Juki 8700 I so love it use it all the time..
Me too I have the 8300 it is so awesome
Love your sewing room and I live close to Jacksonville in middleburg, love your videos , very helpful , have a blessed day
thank you for all your videos... I love them and have encourage me to try new things like patterns I was so scare to follow a pattern I wasn't sure I was going to get it. I'm a visual person and I have to do try it and do it myself.. and your videos are so easy to follow, you provide so much information it's awesome. Thank you for the sewing room tour, and also for everything you add it, like we don't have to have a whole room to be creative.
you are awesome, thank you for sharing you space with other enthusiastic sewers!
Thank you so much Nicole!
That was so good to watch. Thank you, Jessica. You now seem to be just like us -- dealing with the "organized" sewing clutter one pile at a time -- and seeing what other room in your house you can fill! Good information.
I work in my dining room on a dining table that belonged to my great grandparents. It's over 100 years old! It's a bit low for cutting, but it gives me the room I need. The hutch holds baskets of supplies. Sadly, my fabric is in totes...I loved your tour. I am also a Bernina fan. I have a 160 (It's about 25 years old) that I purchased new and a 4 thread overlock Bernina! Your machines are beautiful!
Sergers are wonderful ! I have to admit ,the first time I EVER saw one was a sewing factory model and it scared me ! Took me a while but now I use one some . Just get get some scraps and play ! Just like you did when you learned to sew ! You’ll love it !!❤️
My craft/sewing room is my favorite also. And I too clean up every day and it’s so nice entering the next day fresh.
Love your creative space💗
I do the same...I clean up everyday so I start with a fresh clean room!
Me too! I can not function on a messy space, so try to do my best to keep it clean and organized every day!
Your space is wonderful and wow your fabric is beautiful! I've always wondered what your space looks like!!
It is so funny I just organized my sewing room and I am so happy I did. I went through all of my fabric and organized by color and some by theme. I even organized all of my hardware. It makes a more calming creative space for me! Love your sewing room tour! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏻❤️
I have the same serger… LOVE it, please give it another try!
New subscriber here. Loved the tour - thanks. I found it inspiring & gave me renewed energy to clean up my sewing room which is rather chaotic.
Thank you for sharing! You have such a positive influence and a good heart. I really love watching your videos. Sometimes I think I can’t do something and then I watch one of your videos and feel inspired to carry on with my project I’m working on. So a huge thank you for being you and sharing your enthusiasm.🦋
I love your videos but missed this one. Thank you! I have an industrial Juki. It's my go-to machine.
Also, bed/table risers are great for your cutting table to get it to the height you need. Nothing worse than having it too low!
My family used to own a garment shop and I literally learned how to sew on commercial machines, including a commercial seger... I would love to have commercial machines! And I love the seger and plan on getting a a portable one... Try yours again... I promise once you get used to it you'll love it!
I need to find someone to make me a custom cutting table too! 😍 That would be so much more efficient. I have to move my machine every time I need to cut on my mat! Haha good thing I have a cheap and light machine!
Loved seeing this....thank you so much....I thought you worked out of a garage.....I think because of the wall behind you....regardless...it's great..love that you used every inch of space too......again, thanks for sharing.....I agree I have to keep my sewing nook tidy once done....take care
Well now you have me thinking about what I could do with my garage Lynette!
Lovely Sewing Room 🤩
Your room is a dream room. My room has a lot of IKea as well. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to afford the glass units and due to my small workspace. My smack is organized, it looks like a hoarders room. Lol. God bless.
Your one blessed gal I can only dream of such a wonderful space. I dream everyday for this room.
Well organised sewing room. Very inspiring.
🌸💝🌸🇲🇾Malacca
I love your space! You are very blessed!
My sewing room is my dinning room, i used to scrapbook and craft but when COVID hit, i discovered sewing,i hadn't since middle school and i fell in love and i look forward everyday to create something, your videos have given me confidence to make other things. Also i love visiting st augustine with my family,we stay in New Smyrna and frequent St Augustine, beautiful place!!
Love it! I used a used ikea small island with cabinets and a white Formica top. It’s huge. 4x6 with a custom 4x6 cutting mat.
So beautiful 👏, your room is so bright, clean and organized. Thank you for sharing 👍👍 Stay safe healthy and happy 😃
Just subscribed, and by the way "Alottlebit" is my new favorite word - I know EXACTLY what it means! Really enjoy your videos - I hope they are as fun for you to produce as they are for us to watch. Also, your Sunshine Wristlet tutorial is fantastic.
Sheets: I buy only white cotton sheets, and make our pillowcases. I use the pillowcases from sheet sets for bases in scrap sewing of blocks, all kinds of things. It feels like it cost me nothing!
Thank you Jesse ...Absolutely fabulous tips ...One day my work studio will be as as organised ❤️
Great sewing space! Totally inspiring!
Wow! What a nice sewing space! 🤩 Can totally relate to having a bunch of drawers full of random things from all of the different sewing projects I’ve had throughout the years! 💫
Wow my dream sewing room.
My sewing room has taken over the formal living room and dinning room of our house...
thank you for sharing your space with us!
Same!! It must be a Stephanie thing, lol!!
You are so welcome!
Very nice room and so well organized. You have to get an industrial machines. I started out with the bernina 770 then I got triumph. I absolutely love love my bernina. I got my industrial machine single needle and I haven’t been on my bernina except for embroidery. Then I got an industrial serger and I absolutely love my industrial serger. I spend most of my time on the industrial machines and you will never regret get them. They are amazing and super reasonable comparing to what we pay for bernina hahaha
Oh you are costing me some money!! I’m just a hiccup away from ordering an industrial
Do it do it do it hahaha. You won’t regret!
I love the theme cabinet and love all the prints
Thank you for sharing. I finds myself cleaning and moving things around constantly in my space!
I love your channel so much. Always brightens my day. You have inspired me to start quilting and bag making. I would love for you to do some videos on hand quilting. I enjoy using my machine but my grandma was a hand quilter and unfortunately she never got the chance to teach me. It would be great to see how you do it since you are such n awesome teacher. Hope you are staying safe!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful sewing space I love it
Thank you for the tour. I always call my sewing room my happy place too.
New subscriber here and just wanted to say you are now my favorite ❤️ Love your honesty and enthusiasm and your great attention to details in your tutorials!
I mainly sew clothing and an occasional quilt.
Now you have me interested in bag making!! You make it look so easy! Thank you for your great tutorials ❤️❤️
Thanks for the tour. Thank you for the great ideas.
