Best sewing room video yet because it’s a working room but pleasant to look at and clearly well organized. I’ve been sewing for over 65 years (yes, I started very young and, yes, I have a few life-years in my bucket!) and am just now I’m in the process of creating a nice sewing room. I re-homed my mis-matched collection of cheap and garage sale storage units and tables and IKEA has become my best friend. I’m loving it! You have inspired me a great deal. I do a wide variety of sewing, mostly garments so have collected lots of “stuff”, much of it looking for better resting places. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind words! 💜 I think the IKEA furniture gets the job done at an affordable price, so it's a win-win for me. I've been sewing on and off for 20 years, but I feel I've become a bit of a hoarder when it comes to fabric and sewing supplies. Perhaps I'm an "organized hoarder" 😆 My grandmother sewed all her life, and one day I hope I can sew even a fraction of how well she did.
I sew on a small table in the corner of my studio apartment. My dining table, coffee table and floor double as work space. I am dreaming of the day I can have an actual cutting table! Your space looks awesome! You’re so organized!
It sounds like you have plenty of flat spaces to work, even tho it may be small. I started out small, and now the kids are gone and I have more space. Be patient, and one day you have your dream space, not matter what that means for you! Maybe use a portable table for now to cut on??
@@petmomful2260 a portable table is a great idea!! I’m wondering if I can find a table that collapses to store under my bed. Wow thanks for the inspiration! Hope you’re having a nice night. 😋
@@MadisonWestfield I recently saw a sewing room makeover by Craftpreneur (here on UA-cam) and she has a tall wooden shelf unit bolted to a wall which includes a table with 2 legs that folds out (she turned it into an ironing board). I think she said she got it at IKEA. Just a thought! Good luck with your space - my living room coffee table doubles as my computer and sewing space. It's a big low wooden one from the 80's my parents gave me. I call it "my command center." I actually sit on a pillow on the floor, legs crossed or under the table, with my couch behind me so I can lean back if I want (and my cat likes to sleep nearby). I love it! Best to you!
Nice to see someone else thinks like I do. I just figured my master bedroom was a waste of good space. It is for sleeping in. How much room do you really need for a bed & dressers??? I did the same thing. We have a trailer and put on a full length, very wide addition. Of course the new Master bedroom was designed to go in one end and our sons room at the other end. Never happened. It became my sewing room. When we re-did the kitchen. All the Top cupboards were reused by putting them in the sewing room on the walls. I love my sewing room and the way we recycled the cupboards. The bottom cupboards with counter tops went in to the Other bedroom in the addition and that is now my Computer room Office and Genealogy Library, and even that room is larger than the original master bedroom in the trailer. My hats off to you & anyone with the courage and insight to utilize their rooms more efficiently and say to heck with a largest bedroom in the house being a master bedroom.
Thank you! Great minds think alike! I figured since all I do is sleep and get dressed in my bedroom and spend most of my waking hours in the sewing room, it just made more sense 🙂
I love your room. So pretty and functional. It's great you can sew with your cousin. Love your cat. My cat used to love to sit with me when I sewed. He died just before Christmas, I miss him. The work desk is really good. My daughter works from home too. She loves it and no, she isn't tempted to sew instead of working. haha. Nice ironing board. Top job.
oh wow .. that is an awesome idea what you did for your sewing table connecting them and also with the baskets underneath to hold your long serge protector and holds all your cords off the floor. that is an idea for me to do. thank you for showing your beautiful and organized room... especially for all the spools of thread.. I guess Ikea would be a great place to go.. Love what you did.. awesome.
Great room very well thought out. And when you showed your dresser for storing fabric, I had to laugh, You Are Organized. My goodness, I wish I had half your organizing skills. Thank you.
By default, not design, my master bedroom is now a craft room. From IKEA, there's 3 Billie(?) bookcases, a very large wooden table top, clear storage boxes, metal magazine holders, cubby shelf and the zipped square ottoman/twin bed. With luck, these shelves can be bought for $10-$20 apiece at thrift stores and the table top was in the "As Is" section for just $25...no legs. But I'm no where near your organization skills because I'm still sewing in my dining room... 😆 Lovely video filled with great storage solutions. Thank you 🍄🍄
Really love your sewing area! I will be incorporating some of your ideas into my space. I really love how you dealt with your cords and power bar. For patterns I photocopied the front of the pattern and put into binders (men’s, lady’s, kids, historical) then filled the patterns by number. Makes everything much easier to find and gives you the option to fill the pictures under different categories. Make sure you have sizing info on the page so you just pull out a binder and leaf through to find what you have in that category. The patterns themselves are in a filling cabinet with box cardboard to separate the rows.
I just watched this whole video again. You’ve got such a wonderful space and you really have some brilliant things you’ve done in the room. It’s a gorgeous space and I am happy you have a beautiful space(with a kitty included!) to be creative in!
Great tour of your design space. Love the idea for holding your power strip up off the floor. You put great thought into the best use of your square footage. Since kitty loves to sleep and look out of the window, create a shelf space by using L-brackets and a piece of wood in a half circle therefore you won’t have any sharp edges to bump into and your storage containers can go back under your cutting space.
Very good sewing room tour! I'm excited that I'll be able to set up a dedicated sewing/craft room in my new home in the next few months, so I've been scouring YT sewing channels for tour vlogs. I really like what you did with your room. The added overhead lighting is not something generally shown on sewing room tours, and I appreciate that you included that. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. My friend did exactly the same thing with her master bedroom. Brilliant! I love the butcher block tabletop. Just what I was looking for.

Beautiful and so well organized! Thank you so much for listing out all of the pieces you used, I think this will be helpful to me when I go to Ikea, Thank you!
I agree with you on the Brother 1034D serger. I had one for 10+ years (got it at Walmart, my first serger) and sewed tons of stuff including cloth diapers (thick!) on it. I had replaced the knife once but eventually another metal part failed (can't recall what now) that I couldn't replace, so I pitched it and bought a Janome, thinking it was an upgrade (cost 4x the amount of the Brother) - I hate it! fussy to thread and no free arm! Thinking I will sell it and get another cheap Brother.
I had an aweha moment with a great solution for the thread storage to over keep thread from unraveling all over. I bought the 3d dots and try to remember to use them especially before I put them away. I do have mats most of my machine embroidery threads, but they still will unravel. Try the dots they can be reused and are very cheap. Sherry D
What are the rough dimensions of your room? The space I am setting up is a basement utility room with open space of 12' x 16'. I love the way you've stored various items, there's a pleasant continuity & flow. Will take some of your ideas and put them to use as I set up my own craft room. IKEA is a crafters friend. Well done and Thank You for putting your mind to this formidable task!
So many great ideas and great use of the space. A place for everything and everything in its place. I understand about the cat in the window. Been there, done that.
Your sewing room looks amazing. You've given me some great ideas for when I decide to update my sewing area. I want to get a gravity feed iron too and the counterweights on the IV pole is a great solution. Thanks for sharing!
What nice sewing room I also have my own room so this just gives me some great ideas for placement of my furniture and parifinalia. I don’t think my husband would give up the master suit for my sewing room 🤔
Wow, that is an amazing sewing room! Very inspirational and lots of ideas, although I don’t sew a lot (home decor sewing), it is important to have a space that works for each person’s needs. Happy Sewing!
I got that 3 piece cutting mat and you were right about the metal connectors - they caught fabric and would fly off. So I removed those connectors and use painting tape on the back to keep them together. Then the only problem is the seam - when you rotary cut over them there are times where just one thread won't cut because it's right over the seam.
beautiful room! I haven't seen any pattern weights or ideas for hanging patterns with other tours. That could solve some daily frustrations for my workspace
Oh this is a beautiful room, Emily!! I’m quite partial to your furry gentleman enjoying his nap in the window. This space is a total WOW and I’m so happy for you!! Excellent organization, you’ve left no stone unturned and it’s just gorgeous while being functional. Congrats!!🎊
Thank you sew much! I'm so grateful to have this space ❤️ I'm quite partial to my furry assistant, too! Of course, where he would be able to sleep was at the forefront of my mind 😺 Luckily I have bins of fabric that boost him right up -- Oliver & Fabric, my two Loves 😹❤️🧵✂️
What a great space you have designed. You can tell a lot of thought went into this, really nice job. Love your gnomes. They are the best pattern weights ever.
Such a cool work/hobby space. I love love it. Nice to have the bathroom handy too. Can you tell me what size Starlite boxes fit your ikea cubes? They look so nice and functional. Thanks for sharing !!
FYI - they make kitty beds that suction to windows for our wonderful little fur babies. :) Can you do a tutorial on how to make the weighted gnomes????? I would LOVE that! Your sewing room is AWESOME!!!!! I would put my sewing room in the master bedroom, but there are no working outlets in there (it is an older house & needs help). But that is a great idea. :)
@@SewcalSewcialite One of the blogs I follow has a couple in their camper for both their cats. I will ask her what brand they are and get back to you. If you want to check her out her blog is catpatches.blogspot.com I love those gnomes and would like to make some.
Do you mind sharing the size of the room? I love the setup! One of the best I have seen! I will be moving in a few months and will have a room dedicated so I am searching for ideas. Thank you for sharing💖
You have such a beautiful sewing space! I am in the process of reorganizing my sewing space and I would like to know where did you get the beautiful artwork hanging on your wall? I was hoping that you would talk about it. I love the ladies wearing the vintage black dresses 👗 Please let me know. Thanks 😊
You may not realize, but there are online stores where you can custom-order the cutting mats. That way you can get one that really works for your table. I’m thinking of one.
Very nicely put together. May I ask how high up should a cutting table come to alleviate back strain? You mentioned being 5'9", what is the height of the 4 drawer chest including the butcher block top? Trying to get an idea of what height would work for me at 5'7" tall for a cutting table.. Thank you xo PS: really like your gnome pattern weights! So cute
Thank you! The dressers that hold up the table top are about 39" high, and the thickness of the table adds another 1.5". I personally chose a height where I didn't need to bend, at all. It works well! I love my pattern weight gnomes, thank you! 🌈💜
I know this is an older video, but I love it! And funny side note: you pointed out your chair that you said it's surprisingly comfortable. I have the same chair and I love it. Lol
Love your space! This video popped up as a recommendation on UA-cam. I'm going to binge watch some more episodes to see what sewing takes place on this channel. Was that an extra dressform in the bathroom as well?
Great room and set up!! Thanks for sharing. What type organizer do you have on your little rolling cart? That's a great idea and it looks like a perfect fit!
Omg I bought one of those self healing mats on Amazon and the smell was so awful! It's like it was burning my nose. And you know, I love my husband. But this tour definitely makes me jealous that I have to share the master bedroom with him 😂
I’m laughing as we did the same thing we moved our California King bed to the smallest room in the house & had to take out the closet to put our dressers in there. We have a 3 bedroom house & now use the master bedroom for the sewing room
Your sewing room is beautiful! It’s very well thought out. I have incorporated some of your ideas and some from Vivmon Sews into my sewing room. I took over a large bedroom as well, and I have used IKEA for much of my organizing. (They are a fabulous company.) Do you have a hard time restraining yourself from buying fabric? That’s something that I’m putting the reigns on myself-until I use up at least some things in my stash. This is easier said than done! I love fabric and patterns it seems. Thanks for showing us your lovely sewing space-I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you! I definitely have a very difficult time resting myself buying fabric 😆 All 8 drawers are full fo fabric, plus the 4 bins I have under the table, plus 5 other bins or so in the laundry room. When I moved, I overwhelmed myself with how much fabric I have, so I've been trying to sew up my stash! It's very hard not to buy, though 😉
Here's how I solved growing my fabric stash. I got several glass-fronted standing bookcases/curio stands and moved my fabric there. Since I can SEE what I have, I'm less likely to shop for more. The glass doors keep the dust off. Before, I'd have to dig through bins and drawers, lifting up the stack to see what was underneath.
What a nice sewing room! Nice to have your cat there, but I keep my cats locked out for fear they'll lick up and choke on thread or pins and needles. I've heard of cats doing that.
Thank you! Good warning about cats. I keep a close on Ollie, and he doesn't lick stuff up like some cats do...unless it's a pastry 🍰 🙂 I do check his bed to ensure no scraps, threads, etc wind up in there.
I am wondering if there is a thin double-sided tape that is strong enough to to keep the warped edges down? Thx for the interesting tour. Handsome shop. Butcher block, eh? Great idea! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🙂 Btw . . . Luv the colored lights. I love lights, too. 😁
Love your setup! Are you happy with the sturdiness of the tables holding your machines? I was thinking about getting those, but I am worried about whether they will shake while sewing.
Thank you! ❤️🧵 I'm pretty happy with them. They don't really shake unless I put the pedal to metal 😆 I have a bracket that joins the two tables together so that probably helps.
I want a U shape system so I don't need to stand up after I cut out all my patterns. So sewing machine in the middle serger on my left and iron on my right. My basic rudimentary arrangement is like that. I cut out everything I need at once, gather all the notions I need but most if it is on a reachable craft bag below sewing machine and make sure my iron is filled with enough water and then my snacks and tablet for netflix on the right corner table of my sewing machine so I don't stand up until my project is done or need a bathroom break
That would be a great set-up! and my old sewing room my ironing station was to my left so I didn't really have to get up. And this room I couldn't really make that work. But I really like your u-shape idea! ☺️
Thank you for sharing the tour of your wonderful sewing studio! Where did you get the print of the ladies in dresses (it's so cute) above your 4 X 4 storage cubes?
Thank you! 😃 The little black dress poster is from Simplicity: www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/vintage-collectibles/simplicity-vintage-black-dress-evolution-poster/

Then the only problem is the seam - when you rotary cut over them there are times where just one thread won't cut because it's right over the seam.
It was a good idea in theory and a money saving option to have three pieces. But alas, for cutting fabric it’s not ideal. Thanks for watching!
beautiful room!
Must keep Cat happy, by all means. Love it!
Absolutely 🐱 Thank you ❤️
What an incredible space. You've sure thought of everything!
Thank you so much!
Great tour. Love your ideas and the whole set up. Well planned and thought out!☺️
Thank you! ❤️
What a great space you have designed. You can tell a lot of thought went into this, really nice job. Love your gnomes. They are the best pattern weights ever.
Thank you! :-)
Room is awesome! Could you tell me the model numbrt of the track lights
Thank you! I got my track lights at Lowe's. Here is the link, I hope it is helpful:

Love your room and totally understand about having tall workstations!
Thank you so much!
Such a cool work/hobby space. I love love it. Nice to have the bathroom handy too. Can you tell me what size Starlite boxes fit your ikea cubes? They look so nice and functional. Thanks for sharing !!
Hi there! Sorry for the delay in my reply as I don't always get notified when comments come in. These are the 15 quart boxes. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I've seen those beds and was wondering if the suction cups actually work. I'm thinking of doing a tutorial on my gnomes 🍄
@@SewcalSewcialite One of the blogs I follow has a couple in their camper for both their cats. I will ask her what brand they are and get back to you. If you want to check her out her blog is catpatches.blogspot.com I love those gnomes and would like to make some.
Loved everything, I just wish I could be your neighbor, and your sewing buddy, that just sounds so much fun...
Aww thank you! 😊💜
I really like your set-up. Very nice and organized.
Thank you sew much! 🪡🧵
Amazing setup. I can tell you put a lot of thought into it. Thanks for sharing.
You can iron the cutting mat flat again with a tea towel between. Search UA-cam for vids! Lovely space x
Thank you! ☺️
Do you mind sharing the size of the room? I love the setup! One of the best I have seen! I will be moving in a few months and will have a room dedicated so I am searching for ideas. Thank you for sharing💖
Hi there! I have an entry way to the room, but the "useable" measurements are 13'8" by 14'4" 😁 Thank you so much for watching 🧵💜
@@SewcalSewcialite thank you!
I have been debating about using ikea...thx for the positive report!
I think it's the best affordable option so far. Thank you for watching 😊
You have such a beautiful sewing space! I am in the process of reorganizing my sewing space and I would like to know where did you get the beautiful artwork hanging on your wall? I was hoping that you would talk about it. I love the ladies wearing the vintage black dresses 👗 Please let me know. Thanks 😊
Hi there! Thanks for watching! The ladies are in the Simplicity Vintage Black Dress Evolution Poster. The other artwork I got in London at museums 😊
You may not realize, but there are online stores where you can custom-order the cutting mats. That way you can get one that really works for your table. I’m thinking of one.
Oh, that's great info! So far this mat has been working out ♥️🙏
You have the ultimate sewing studio. It's wonderful.
Thank you! 🌸 I am really pleased with how it came out 😃
A great use of space! Really great set up every where!
Thank you sew much 😃🧵
Thankyou for tour of your sewing space, gave me some great ideas for my space 💜
Your welcome, and thank you! I'm glad I was able to share some ideas 😃
Gnomes are so adorable. Do you have a pattern for them? Your sewing room is fantastic! You’ve given some ideas to use in mine👍💗💗
Thank you! I just drafted the gnome pattern myself.
I know this is an older video, but I love it! And funny side note: you pointed out your chair that you said it's surprisingly comfortable. I have the same chair and I love it. Lol
Thank you so much! This is still my sewing setup and I still love that chair 🤣♥️
A very beautiful space and so well organized! I Love it!
Thank you! 🙂🧵
Love your space! This video popped up as a recommendation on UA-cam. I'm going to binge watch some more episodes to see what sewing takes place on this channel. Was that an extra dressform in the bathroom as well?
Thank you! Yup, that was an extra form. Bathroom = overflow storage sometimes 😆
Great room and set up!! Thanks for sharing. What type organizer do you have on your little rolling cart? That's a great idea and it looks like a perfect fit!
Thank you! It's a little sewing caddy, I think I got it at JoAnn but I could be wrong. I shall investigate 😊
Love your room! You should order a cutting mat from Martelli. Bar none they are the best mats i have ever used!
Thank you so much, and thank you for the cutting mat tip 🙂
What a beautiful and perfectly set up space! TFS!!
Thank you! 😊🧵
Beautiful sewing studio love it! Please we’re did you purchase your overhead tripod for filming tutorial didn’t find it in the description thank you
Thank you! I got it on Amazon: amzn.to/3qhGH8l
Love your sewing space 😍
Thank you sew much! 💞
Omg I bought one of those self healing mats on Amazon and the smell was so awful! It's like it was burning my nose.
And you know, I love my husband. But this tour definitely makes me jealous that I have to share the master bedroom with him 😂
It's too bad some of these mats have awful smells 😫 I had a chuckle about sharing your room with your husband 😆🧵
I’m laughing as we did the same thing we moved our California King bed to the smallest room in the house & had to take out the closet to put our dressers in there. We have a 3 bedroom house & now use the master bedroom for the sewing room
Thank you for sharing your beautiful sewing space
Thank you so much for watching ☺️🧵
Thank you for sharing your awesome sewing space. That is a wonderful room to sew in.
Thank you sew much! 🧵❤️
@@lindahoskin6617Good idea! The glass front is very helpful so you can see. Half the problem is we forget what we have 😆
What a nice sewing room!
Great idea! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🙂
Btw . . . Luv the colored lights. I love lights, too. 😁
Luckily those edges finally settled! But the double sided tape is a good idea 🙂
Love your space! So organized and pretty!
Thank you!
Nice sew space, not too busy👍🏾
Thank you!
It's really well organized food job i wish you lots of fun
Thank you sew much! 🧵
Really nice and well planned. I'm looking for inspiration for my sewing room makeover so I'll probably pinch some of your ideas.😂
Psst......I know what you mean about the smell of those green cutting mats! 🤭It does fade tho. 🙂
Wow! Absolutely beautiful.
Thank you! ☺️🧵
You think like me!! I changed my bedroom into a sewing studio!! It just works!!
I love it! It just made sense to me if my sewing studio is where I spend the majority of my waking hours and I only sleep iny bedroom 🤷♀️😃
@@SewcalSewcialite Plus it allows the most space when you don't have a basement and 2 small bedrooms!! You go girl 👏💃👣💃🧵🧵 I'm a new subscriber. I'll be watching you for sure 👍 !!
@@thesewingbratt966 Awesome! Welcome to my channel and thank you! ❤️🧵
I love your sewing studio! I would like to know where you got your sewing machine tables and the surge protector you had attached to them. I am like you and don't like to see all the cords at my feet.
Thank you! I listed all of my items (most, anyway), in the comments section withinks ☺️
