Funny that you did this video when I have set aside this weekend to clean out my sewing room. I was totally dreading it, but not nearly as much now. Also, your video made me realize I don't have to completely finish everything this weekend and I already feel less stressed. Thank you (again)!

Your video is amazing! I've been putting off organizing my sewing room for so long but your video has motivated me to finally get to work on mine. I have quite a few similar issues (ribbon storage, pattern storage, fabric purging, whether to keep my dress form or not, etc.) that you had, so your "fixes" definitely gave me some solutions. Thanks so much for allowing us to go through your organization with you

My husband just went on a trip yesterday and I am getting ready to pull everything out of my sewing room and reorganize - perfect timing to find your video tonight! I admire your self-control and discipline which I guess is partly your personality and partly having moved often as you have previously mentioned. Too easy to let stuff accumulate thinking you will use it "someday..."

Oh man such a huge job but so nice when it's done. And no judgement from here about starting a project before you're finished! If I could only count the times . . .
I love your Husky table. I have an adjustable table I got for free (it was a sponsored video) but it doesn't have that wide shallow drawer that your workbench has. Mine is electric - but I really want that drawer because I LOVE the way you've arranged your thread in it! I'd use it for just that alone. My problem is that it's a 72" table and it looks like I'll have to do separate small drawers instead of one big one. Bummer. I may just do the smaller ones anyway because that is one fantastic idea for storing thread, which has been my nemesis.
Also, I'm looking forward to the crazy quilt tutorial - I tried something like that as a quilt-as-you-go thing with coasters for my car drinkholders. No binding, just flip and stitch. Good exercise in spacial thinking - and now my husband wants some. Next it'll be my kids. I've created a monster and I blame you! #notaquilterexceptmaybe
p.s. I did that because I needed a palate cleanser and you mentioned that was a good one. Small, easy, and you were right!

I just finished cleaning out my sewing room tonight and I find your video! I enjoyed watching you declutter your room. I feel satisfied with my progress tonight and watching your video has giving me another boost of energy to do the last thing, my photo frames and papers. I’ve always folded my fabrics in a file system way so I can see them all when I open the door and by size then color, because I look for them by size before color. My patterns are organized by manufacture then by items (dresses and skirts, pants and shorts, tops, outerwear, house wear, kids, men). I photo copy all my patterns and made a binder organized just by item (dresses and skirts pants and shorts…) when I’m looking to make something I start with the item in the binder then I look who manufactures it and go to my large and tall file cabinet and look for the item and then the manufacturer. All my patterns are in the file cabinet by item but all items are together by manufacturers so it’s easy to find. I like the tips you shared.

This timing is perfect!! I’m less then 2 weeks from being done as a docent at our local museum for the season!! Job one after I’m done is to declutter my sewing spaces!! My laundry room and guest room. Getting so excited to have it back under control!!
A month or so ago I attended a quilters estate sale. The first time I went I spent $220!! It was supposed to be a one day sale. But then they extended it the next weekend! Their prices were phenomenal!! Really!! Like the quilt makers gift book for 50 Cents and in perfect condition!! I went partly just curiosity. I really didn’t NEED any thing. But I managed to find $240 worth of treasures!! Lol. Including jelly rolls for $16!!!
I haven’t taken the time to organize and find places for my treasures!! So that’s job one. It’s going to be a major job. But a must do!! Especially like the bobbins idea for lace!! Thx s!! Lots of great ideas.
I have my fabric stash basically sorted by color, in bins, in the guest room. Basically well organized, just need to make sure they are all maximized!! Lol.
Thinking of making my own lace bobbins, so I can make them fit and maximizing my containers. Thinking of just putting them in individual pieces, wrapped around my fingers, clipping them, washing and drying. Then put them on the bobbins. Hope that works!!
I can’t wait to see how it all works out. At this point, anything is better then what is happening now.
    Thx for inspiring me!!

I use index cards fold them in half and wrap my ribbons on them. I had a cute box that the lid opens but stays attached and put my ribbon in it. I organized them by width sizes because that’s what I look for before color. The box has a latch to keep it locked. I got it at Michaels with a coupon. Have fun organizing

My favorite part of the video was when you started a new project in the middle of the clean out and chided yourself for it! I've been working on my sewing room for awhile. I did a major purge in the last two weeks and got rid of a bunch of stuff I've been hoarding. It's too late for me to heed your fabric storage/buying advice because I HAVE SO MUCH!!! I think because you are a military wife that you've had years of practice of not purchasing everything because you moved around so much. That's a great mindset to have even for non-military. We buy stuff impulsively - and me to the point that I have so much stuff that I have no space to work. I'm still working on that but I'm to the point that I can work on a project.

I purged last year when we moved across the state and some fabrics I donated, I kicked myself. I’m ready to purge some poly thread by a well known German company. I don’t like 100% poly and go with poly cotton. What I find is that my batting takes up so much room in my one and only closet.

Do you have that problem with yours? I think I can just add oil to the hinge part but since they I've only had them a month they shouldn't need that yet. Your thoughts?

    • @PinCutSew
      @PinCutSew  9 місяців тому +1

I only have Fiskars thread snips, but I actually have had that happen with them before! I think I figured it was the temperature change, since it happened when I moved to the south, and so they swelled or something, but I dunno lol. I think my husband took them apart and oiled them, or maybe he just loosened the bolt, and I never had the issue again. I’ll ask him if he remembers and report back if he does!
