Told my wife a few days ago that I would happily pay more for stuff made here that works the first go round.

I have had Chinese made water pumps, from Gates timing belt kits, fail after only a few thousand miles. Nothing like doing a job twice, for free.

It's not the end of the world, so just buy the correct studs and not make such a big deal out of it. We've all been there, so calm the fuck down.

Americans complain about a living wage, then we buy our junk from China where they pay people nothing. We complain about pollution, then make everything in China where they don't care. We think that we are getting it cheap, but how cheap is it when you have to do the job twice?? We need to bring back production to the US. It will be cheaper in the long run.

It might make an interesting question for the clerks at parts places ...what percentage of Chinese parts get returned because they don't fit, or have a very short operating life?

sadly that is all available today. Nothing is made here anymore. Probably metric threads. All that said, if you can find metric threaded rod and nuts just make new studs.

would be ironic if they were threaded correct but the last water pump had metric studs. however i hate it when hardware kits are missing. a simple job turns into a not so simple job.

    • @Tomcat71

I bought the same part for the same application from a different vendor that had the correct threads. This was simply piss poor Manufacturing. Typical of chinese-made garbage, they get it 98% right and then fuck it up on one of the most important parts. The water pump that I removed with a GM water pump so it had the correct threads. plus most W/ps no longer include new studs due to cost cutting.

@Tomcat71 Where was the second part made? That's an important piece of information. Plus the auto parts industry have been buying from a manufacturer who is avoiding the tax. Sonyung I think the name is.

We like to blame the Chinese for the crap that is labeled made in China. Our blame is wrongly placed. Chinese manufactures make the quality spec by the seller, they can make Snap-On Quality or Harbor Freight quality. The US vendor want product as cheap as possible to make max profit, they do not care if the product works or fits. It our own fault as we continue to purchase shit off Amazon, E-Bay and others that offer Every Day Low Prices.

I actually blame my buddy for buying a $36.00 water pump. The $70 water pump I bought from Advance Auto had the right threads and was made in Mexico. How long it lasts is another story.
