  • Turbulent is now available from my Gumroad store:
    nodesandnoodle...
Turbulent is a shader node system for Blender 3D which creates high-quality realistic water effects with no simulations or geometry nodes so viewport performance is blazing fast and render times are tiny!
Previously, setup for Turbulent took about 20 minutes, so I wrote a Manager addon to speed up and simplify the process as much as possible.
With the Manager, setup time has come down to about a minute!

looks awesome! I will say that even with the ripples it does sometimes look like the flowing water is “ignoring” the terrain…i.e. the flow continues through outcrops instead of curving around. still amazing for no sims!

Yeah. You can "fix" that by increasing the turbulence Spread and Intensity, but if you go too far the water will start to flow around objects which are well below the surface. It's a delicate balance which must be fine tuned to the scene. The subdivisions of the "data plane" also play a big part.

Brilliant work! If I had to criticise one area though it would be that the foam could do with some more intricate white patterns - it looks a bit fuzzy/blurry...

Agreed. In fact, I'm still developing the foam and might alter the whole approach.

Well, you'll have my money once you release it as a product! @@nodesandnoodles

I only need to give it a thorough testing to make sure nothing unexpected happens. It should be available in a day or two.
