if anyone is still having trouble camera tracking don't forget in the tracking settings to set match to "previous frame" and turn normalize on, this one step made the automatic tracking so much smoother and has saved many hours of frustration on step 1
Amazing tutorial. I've been watching a bunch of camera tracking tutorials today just to figure out how the one in blender works but this one really helped me nail down some specifics especially the stuff you covered about lining up the cube to a feature in the plate. Thanks so much for putting this together.
Pretty helpful for a beginner. I'm used to after effects tracking, it was my first time doing blender tracking and this video itself only has been enough to understand everything I needed
In my opinion this tip is a bit wrong. Undistorted footage is better for modelling as all straight lines that became curved due distortion are getting straight again. Just use undistort node in compositor. And then redistort again
@@ЦыхраЦыхра Srsly. Dude asks Blender to calculate the lens distortion from the footage, then deletes the Undistort node which that creates, and THEN complains that his footage doesn't like up with the scene. Utter idiocy.
Thank you so much. You actually do it step by step in a method that works better than all those crappy tutorials that get 2 million views or are done in 60 seconds. its hard to admit it but this was actually better than ian huberts motion tracking tutorial
This tutorial was very helpful! It works like a charm. My only problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to get the shadow to show in cycles as the ground plane just becomes completely black. Anything I'm missing, by chance?
Nevermind, I kind of figured it out. The shadow only shows when it's done rendering all of the images together. I'm still confused, though, because I can't see the shadow until the final render.
Pro tip: at least older versions of Blender allowed you to enter lengths with unit. Even though your scene is in meters or millimeters (adjustable in scene settings), you can simply enter "6ft" and Blender should do the conversion automatically.
Hi, thanks for the great tutorial! I was wondering tho, how do you know which tracking point to select in order to define the Origin and the X Axis in the Orientation menu?
Thank you very much for the tips, it doesn't always work, that depends on the scene of course; but at least it's a good approximation of what you want, thanks for the tutorial.
Great tutorial! Quick question: I've tracked a riverlandscape and will replace a ship on the river. the track is really nice, but how do I add a 'track' for the ship? That's would solve a few issues for me.
I'm currently working on camera tracking in Blender for the following video and have some questions I would like to ask: "ua-cam.com/video/s2IST0nkCWs/v-deo.html" I couldn't perform automatic camera tracking, so I placed the markers manually. Since I don't have the lens distortion data, I drew lines from the image at 5:12 in the video to create a grid image and used that as a reference to create the markers. The question is, when I analyze the camera from 5:00 to 5:56, I encounter an error midway and can't output the camera path. Moreover, different frames cause errors each time I run the analysis. Do you think it's impossible to generate the details of this silo in 3D using this video?
Hi, nice tuts Jacob! But i had some issue, when i follow your tuts until spawn a cube it's seems fine. But, if i change to obj (statue) the scene is upside down, how do i fix that? Thanks in advance!
That sometimes happens when setting up the floor in the camera tracking. Try setting new floor points. A good way to tell if your camera is upright is to go into the 3D viewport and exit the camera view. There should be an arrow on the camera telling which way is up, just make sure it’s facing upwards and if not just set a new set of floor markers
hey, ive went through this tutorial aswell as the 3yrs old one with manual motion tracking. In both cases my Suzanna seems to be sliding and does not stick to the origin. Ive tried multiple things already without succes. I matched the resolution, matched the fps, tried the same with png sequences, did manual aswell as the automatic choice of tracking points, ive rendered the background and foreground together and seperate, the solve error was at its highest at around 0.5. Unfortunatly im out of ideas, any recommendations what i could have missed ?
Just make sure your objects are sitting directly on the floor plane in your 3d scene and maybe that’s what’s wrong. If not, then it’s too do with your floor orientation not matching. Hope that helps
Sick tut. I have been learning a lot from you. Keep going man. And we also want to see the other tracking tools you mentioned at the end, and other compositing software tuts. 🎉
@@Jacob_Zirkle to camera track on more complicated shots you mean tracking with nuke i(f it’s better for Camera trucking than Blender ?) or pluralize of PF track ? Great tutorial as always!
@@Jacob_Zirkle but to stay with free softwares do you think that nuke noncommercial can help tracking some shots who are difficultly done with Blender ?
Hi, thank you. It is perfect, but there is a problem I can't fix. I used my video instead of yours, but I followed all the processes. The tracking point score is good, below 1. I chose 'Set Origin,' and it looks good, but when I choose three tracking points for Floor Orientation, everything gets messed up. It affects the origin; the origin point is moved, so it does not fit the perspective rule. The object does not sit properly on the ground. What can I do?
You should always set you floor first and then your origin point. If that still doesn’t work then I think the point you are selecting for your origin point might not be on the floor plane inside of blender. Hopefully that helps you troubleshoot!
It's possible to make camera tracking of a footage recorded with a Galaxy S22 Ultra? Since there's a lot of lens distortion, I've never been able to track the borders of the frame.
Phones with wider lens tend to have a lot of distortion. The best solution I’ve found is to slightly zoom in on phones to eliminate it. Not ideal I know but the next solution is using a better tracking software such as SynthEyes pftrack etc which can better detect distortion
You would just use a write geo node in nuke and export out the camera and any objects you want as a fbx file. Then just import the fbx in blender and everything should line up with some minor tweaking
I believe tracking is only a CPU process unfortunately. The GPU is used for more graphic intensive tasks and CPU is used for more calculation based tasks
I believe you have to change the sensor size in blender to be vertical but unfortunately I’ve never messed around with it so I don’t know the workflow.
I had the same issue. My solution was to get less trackers. So there seems to be a limit to how many trackers you can have, and still being able to select them. Try to delete a lot of them using the method described aroung 6:00, "clean tracks." Then see if you can select.
