Umbria's Cheesiest Festival? - Italy slow travel

- In the middle of August we arrived in the region of Umbria and instantly fell in love. Known as the green heart of Italy, and "Poor Man's Tuscany" by the locals, it offers exceptional views, wonderful food and welcoming people. We could not have ended up staying with a better hostess. She showed us around the area and took us to events with locals and expats. Her 20+ years in the area really helped us realize this is a special place.
The town of Panicale has an annual grape festival in early September and is kicked off with a cheese rolling competition. So we made our way over to the medieval village to witness this strange but intriguing competition.
We look forward to exploring more of these lesser known towns and events. Umbria seems to be filled with them!

That was fun. Nice to look back at warm weather days during the winter.
Whew! It was a blistering summer in Italy, September the temps went down so it made for pleasant days. Fall is definitely the season to be in Italy. Hope you guys are loving Tennessee 💞

Well that's something I never knew existed! What a fun time!
We had no idea either Brian! It was a total blast, especially to see how serious they take this little competition 💞🇮🇹
Loved the Cheese Rolling! Look like a lot of fun and we noticed a lot of cups of "lemonade" (wine) around. Participants need to get into the proper frame of mind. Makes it all the more fun!
We really enjoyed it, especially listening to the team members talk, couldn't understand a word they said🤣😂🤣 but I just love the Italian language! Almost as much as Italian "lemonade"🍷🍷

Oh yes! You would love it! We were lucky to catch this in September because normally they do the cheese rolling at Easter time. Which they did do this past Easter 😊 So maybe next year you can catch some serious cheese rolling in Panicale at Easter time. Thank you so much for watching 💞🇮🇹

I love how seriously they swing the cheese and lean forward to get as much of an advantage as possible! Have you seen the cheese rolling race held in Gloucestershire in the UK? There, a line of people, each with a wheel of cheese, roll it and race down a steep hill. So steep that there are a lot of falls and the occasional broken bone!
Oh no, we hadn't even heard of this cheese rolling event😁 The one in the UK sounds like a bigger event then the one in Panicale. So much fun though regardless, would live to be able to watch the one in the UK as well. Thank you so much for watching!

Yes, we don't let anything get in the way of our dreams and goals, we only have one life to live, we don't get a second chance at it😊 They rolled real wheels of cheese! That parmigiana cheese is tough!
