Just a couple tangential thoughts. Even when I grew up in the 1950s and 60s, women were, in many ways, not considered full humans. Married women could not get credit in their own name. Women were barred from many professions, and expected to be helpmates to their husbands. Women were blamed for being raped if they drank alcohol or wore revealing clothing. Sex was something men pursued and something women gave up. Women really were, in many ways, honorary humans. These attitudes must have been even more prevalent during Cosby’s youth and persist in many forms to this day. Of course, most men who believed these things don’t became rapists, and nothing excuses Cosby’s crimes, but at least some of the roots of his behavior could come from societal and cultural norms.
Women, don't report assaults to the police .
It isn't an excuse to get even with men !
No one took responsibility for what you thought happened !
It isn't just about identifying a suspect !
That isn't what rape is !

Why do young people seem to think that people quit having sex at 60? Because we dont...
Idk if we think you quit having sex but the assumption is that the sex isn't very good.
@@ubong5172 if the sex is good when you're young, it'll be even better when you're old. Experience and practice build skill, ya know.
The acrobatics may be slightly different, but that doesn't mean it's less satisfying. And lots of us are still capable of plenty of gymnastics, even into the dotage of our 60s. Just keep yourself in shape.
But, if you think that sex is just pounding away, then yeah, it's probably not going to be very good for you. And i dare say, probably not very good for your partner now. 🤷♀️
Edit because I a word
@@nobody8328 If someone were to poll people age 60 and up on the quality of their sex. I'd assume most would say it's not satisfying. That's not to say there aren't 60 year olds having good sex out there but I'd assume that most 60 year olds aren't very flexible and fairly out of shape and good sex can be rigorous.
The type of sex I'm talking about isn't pounding away. And I agree, experience and listening to your partner will make sex better. But certain positions aren't doable when you get to an older age. I wouldn't expect to hold my partner on my shoulders while i give her oral when I'm 60.
I cant even tell you how guarded I was about drinking things others wanted me to drink and I always had my own drink with me (back when I was young/partied) and I thought there was no way anyone could get me to drink something but the whole sip a drink and pretend to be drunk i totally wouldve fallen for that.
For me personally, knowing now what he did, I’m not watching anything to do with him, and it has nothing to do with giving him more money it has everything to do with who I am as a person, and how I want to keep developing myself, and that’s why I listen to your podcast, thanks
We had one of the Cosby record albums when I grew up in the 60s. Just amazing how long this behavior was hidden. :(
Didn't know very much about this, so appreciated the discussion. A comparison piece about Cosby and Danny Masterson would be very interesting.
Well,
One accusation, was rejected after waiting a year, to report it !
The other women never even went to the police !
It's an explanation of what didn't happen
Simple as that !
I am listening to the youtube video 'Telltale Signs: Parsing the Ace of Base Nazi Rumours (Side A)' from Unsung Podcast after Kirk mentioned Ace of Base being racist. I have not finished it yet(!) but I think there is perhaps more to it than Kirk said. One of them was, at their own admission one as a teenager, I think he has disowned it now, although they suggest he may be under playing his friendliness with a Swedish right wing party (one of his former band mates formed it), and some of the lyrics in their songs are perhaps suspect.
I think I would use the word "brazen" rather than "brave."
Brazen hussies
I grew up watching The Cosby Show and wishing that Cliff/Bill was my father. The show had such a wonderful way of dealing with difficult topics while being entertaining and thoughtful. And Bill was so funny outside of the show, too.
When the news came out about the real-life Cosby, I was gutted. I felt awful for the women who were harmed by him and in disbelief that he could do such terrible things. It shattered that image I had of him and made me feel sick. I can’t watch The Cosby Show or Fat Albert or anything else he’s in now. It’s sad because the messages and work of the other actors remain superb, but Bill tainted it all.
So sad that kids today don't watch Fat Albert and now it is so tainted by him. It was a fantastic show.
