Glad to see you checking this amazing instrument from my country! It is sometimes called simply as Zheng because the its actual name is just Zheng. The word Gu Zheng actually means Ancient Zheng or Traditional Zheng. Hope you find playing it satisfying!
The reason why the lady says zheng instead of guzheng is bc zheng is kinda like the sound it produce like "jang jang" and they like things to be easier
ok some tips don't have the thumb nail be so parallel and try to tilt it up a little an make sure the tape goes around the bottom half of the nail when bending the strings try to have a more curved hand figure rather than flat and tilted Your doing pretty good keep it up its a great instrament to learn
These are good tips. Some things to keep in mind: I will always play it backward, because that's how I play all my stringed instruments. IF you watch me play guitar, I don't hold it in the traditional way either. My objective is to play music, not necessarily to do it the way everyone else does. Still, your tip for better hand position bending the strings is useful. Thanks for your input.
“Gu,” means ancient & “Zheng,” means zither. So it makes sense to call it “Ancient Zither,” or just simply Zither. PS. You’re playing backwards. You should be seated across from where you’re currently sitting. The higher octaves where your body is & the lower octaves (thicker strings), further away from you.
Thanks for the explanation about the name guzheng. That makes a lot of sense. I do realize I am playing it backward, but if you watch my other videos, I play other stringed instruments left harnded as well. Itt's how i play guitar and such. I have more picking dexterity with my left hand, so I did it that way on purpose, though I know it's not the traditional way.
Hey Rory! You're a very talened multi-instrumentalist, just started to follow you because just order a Guzsheng. Can't wait to have it on my hands! I have a question, hope you have time to answer; could you explain deeper or write down your tuning please? Best regards!

I suspect this is the origin of the Japanese Koto.
What? How is it possible you can play the instrument without seeing the strings? Wow.
Feel the strings

And you played it backwards, a guzheng is pentatonic, just a note.
